Così, centro urbano per centro urbano, assessore per assessore, il progetto ha preso piede e venerdì scorso ha tenuto a Milano la sua riunone nazionale. Un pochino deprimente, ma certe cose bisogna saperle!SPOILER ALERT, alcuni punti di discussion sono i seguenti:--Il mito della bellezza e' cosi' potente perché noi donne oggigiorno siamo costantemente circondate da immagini di donne con fisici perfetti (creati da photoshop).--Oltretutto una delle industrie dai fatturati annui più alti- quella dei prodotti di bellezza- basa la vendita dei prodotti sulle nostre insicurezze. Creano immagini per farci vedere brutte e renderci insicure, cosicché compriamo i loro prodotti e contribuiamo a creare miliardi e miliardi di fatturato.--Le conseguenze del mito della bellezza sono di tantissimi tipi. Prima di tutto il fatto che ci vediamo brutte e siamo disposte a tutto pur di essere piu' simili alle donne sulle copertine, che include anche ricorrere a interventi di chirurgia estetica non necessari e potenzialmente dannosi. --Questo mito abbassa la nostra autostima--Sul posto del lavoro e' un disastro perché non veniamo mai giudicate puramente per la qualità del lavoro, ma prima di tutto su come appariamo. Your London Legacy loves to catch up with some of the great characters and iconic buildings in our magnificent city, and today’s guest is no exception. Nevio Pellicci Jnr is the third generation of the Pellicci family—who came over to London from Lucca, in Tuscany Italy way back in 1900. Back then Priamo Pellicci and his wife Elide came to London with their son and Priamo took a job in a small café, which he subsequently bought. The café was named E.Pellicci in honour of his wife. When Priamo died of tuberculosis in 1931 Elide raised their seven kids and shaped the business into what it is today; a hand crafted, wood-paneled art deco style café/restaurant, which was Grade II listed in 2005. Situated in the heart of Bethnal Green Road, East London, E.Pellicci is now run by Mama Maria who is well into her 70s’, as well as her children Nevio and Anna and older cousin Tony, who has worked there for nearly 50 years. Apart from the food, which is a splendid mix of traditional English and Italian fayre, all freshly prepared on the premises, E.Pellicci is more a social club, where all cultures ages and sections of society happily sit across the Formica tables from each other and share their stories. Celebrities drop in from time to time to sample the unique atmosphere, and the Krays used to meet up regularly to hold court. E.Pellicci is a unique place with a special character and in this chat with Nevio you get a real flavour of the stories it holds. “It’s not just a café to us—or a workplace—it’s like our second home. We were always in here from when we were babies.” [9:40] We recorded in the back of the cafe by the kitchen – you’ll certainly get a taste of the ambiance of a hip and running café in this episode. There are pictures of the family hung up in the back of Nevio’s grandmother and grandfather—photos taken at a time where it was a pretty big deal to get a whole portrait taken. There are countless stories that have been passed down through the life of the café—including some of his granddad being a bit of a trouble maker—evidenced by a story about how he won a racehorse gambling and clomped it right into the café. The stories stack on top one another, as Nevio is the 3rd generation to run the establishment. [14:40] “We had a massive fire here in 2000 and we were very lucky because one of our customers saw the smoke coming out the door about ten o’clock at night—a firetruck came down and said if they were ten minutes later we would’ve lost all the wood.” The fire shut down the restaurant for about eight months which allowed for a renovation of the kitchen—completely gutted and redone. They have more space and organization now and the original wood was able to be saved, keeping the integrity of the café’s lovely art deco styling. [22:20] People are drawn to E.Pellicci for too many reasons to count. There’s the food, atmosphere, and the personalities that run it—Nevio will introduce different patrons to one another, two of which have gone on to become a couple a year on. It draws in locals, ambulance service workers, lawyers, store holders—it could be anyone. The Latin word elido (el EE doe) means ‘to dash to pieces.’ The word elide first came to mean ‘omit’ in reference to a sound or syllable being omitted from a word. As time went be, the word took on another meaning. Omitting a sound or syllable often meant joining other sounds. For example, if we take ‘I will’ and omit the W and I sound, we join I and LL together to get ‘I’ll.’ To this day, elide can either mean ‘omit,’ in reference to a sound or syllable or ‘merge.’ But when it means ‘merge,’ it may refer to anything, for example: I was hoping my teacher would elide both classes. It would be nice to spend some time from the kids in room 23.

Elide in questa puntata intervista un ospite!!!! Il primo ospite del podcast. Whooop whoop! L’ospite è Danjel Maraniello, scrittore emergente e autore del libro “Riveter” che parla di supereroi e femminismo. Dopo essersi introdotto (min. 1:22) e avere introdotto il libro (min. 3:10), Danjel ci spiega come gli è balzato in testa di scrivere un libro femminista (min. 5:40) e di quali sono i messaggi che ci vuole comunicare (min 8:40).Dopodiché finalmente si inizia con le domande provocatorie! Prima di tutto, perché dovrebbe essere un uomo a scrivere un libro femminista?? (min. 9:30). Ovviamente la domanda è provocatoria perché essendo il femminismo un movimento sulla parità richiede il supporto sia di donne che di uomini. Dah!Nell’ultima domanda Elide chiede a Danjel come si potrebbe fare a migliorare la società italiana e a renderla più giusta e paritaria (min. 12:20). In questo episodio Elide e Sanny parlano di autostima.Che cos’è l’autostima? In parole povere possiamo dire che è una misura di quanto piaci a te stessa. Se sai di essere una bella persona allora hai alta autostima, se non ti rendi veramente conto del tuo valore allora si dice che hai bassa autostima. L’autostima è importantissima per raggiungere quello che vuoi nella vita, perché se non crediamo in noi stesse, se non crediamo di essere abbastanza, come possiamo realizzare i nostri sogni? Quindi dobbiamo imparare a credere in noi stesse, ma come fare? Uno dei segreti è di diventare la persona migliore che puoi essere, di essere una persona che tu stessa ammiri. Più ci si allinea con quello che vogliamo essere più sarà facile credere in noi stesse. Elide e Sanny daranno quindi consigli su come capire la persona che vuoi essere e poi sul come iniziare a fare piccoli passi per diventarlo. Enjoy the episode!

For Modern Cinderellas this is a very important topic because there is a great risk in presenting a one-size-fits all model of relationship happiness, and it is the risk that women will rather be in an unhappy relationship than being single, because they think that being single means being unhappy. But this is not true and Elide is the living proof. She has been single most of her adult life and she is living her dream life without any intention to get into a relationship for at least the next 20 years. But the reality is that there are not many role models showing women how a single-and-happy adult life looks like, so it is hard to consider this option as a life choice. Elide and Sanny go on giving five advice to women who want to try to live the happy single life:1.Forget about social pressure. You have just one life to live, don’t do what other people tell you to do if does not truly make you happy.2.Listen to your own voice. Try really to understand what is that you want and what makes you happy independently from anyone else.3.Don’t be scared because you are stronger than what you think. Being single can be overwhelming at the beginning because you have to do a lot of difficult things by yourself. But the more you do them, the more you learn and the stronger you become. Fear was built within us to protect us, but it is just a thing. Fear doesn’t hurt us and the more we do things we are scared about and we succeed, the more we learn to overcome fear and live the life we want. 4.Building your own confidence. Society is still telling us that women’s worth depends on the attention they get from men. It tells us that single women are not single because they want to be, they are single only because they are not good enough for a man. So if you want to be happily single you need to really build your confidence, and realize you are worthy and amazing not because men like you, but because of who you are. Society love to shame strong and independent women because we have so much power. Don’t let it take away your power. 5.We all need love, but there is love outside of a romantic relationship. Love can come fro your friends and family, but especially it needs to come from within you. Nell’episodio di oggi Elide e Sanny parleranno di un argomento che sta molto a cuore ad Elide: come essere single e felice in un mondo che ci dice che l’unico modo per essere felice è fare parte di una coppia. Per le Modern Cinderellas questo argomento è molto importunate perché c’è un grandissimo rischio nel fare credere alle donne che si possa essere felice solo in coppia, ed è il fatto che poi si preferisca scegliere di stare in una relazione dove si è infelici invece di “correre il rischio” di essere single. Ma si può davvero essere single e felici ed Elide ne è la prova lampante! Elide ha 33 anni è stata single la maggior parte della sua vita adulta e vive la vita dei sui sogni, senza nessuna intenzione di trovarsi un partner almeno per i prossimi 20 anni. Ma la realtà è che in generale non ci sono molti “role models” che fanno vedere alle donne come vivere una vita felicemente single, e cosi è difficile considerare questa come opzione, specialmente dopo i 30 anni. Elide e Sanny hanno preparato per gli ascoltatori cinque consigli su come vivere una vita single e felice:1.Fregatene di quello che ti dice la società. Devi vivere la vita che vuoi e fare le cose che davvero ti rendono felice, anche se le persone attorno a te ti dicono che sono cose sbagliate.2.Ascolta la tua voce. Dentro di te tu sai cosa ti rende felice, e sai quando sei infelice. Ascolta quella vocina dentro di te e seguila.3.Non avere paura perché sei più forte di quello che credi. Essere single all’inizio può fare paura, soprattutto per persone che sono sempre stata in una relazione. Ma come tutto nella vita, quando affrontiamo le nostre paure poi ci rendiamo conto che alla fine quella cosa non era così difficile. La paura è una cosa che abbiamo per proteggerci, ma non ci può fare del male, e più facciamo cose che ci fanno paura, meno avremo paura in futuro4.Basa la tua autostima solo su te stessa. Questa società ancora ci dice che il valore di una donna dipende dalle attenzioni che riceve dagli uomini. Ci dice che una donna single non può essere single perché lo sceglie, ma solo perché chiaramente non è abbastanza per un uomo. Quindi se vuoi essere felicemente single devi davvero cercare di sviluppare un’ autostima che dipende da te stessa e non dagli altri. La società cercherà sempre di giudicare male donne che sono forti e indipendenti, perché non vuole che capiamo quando potere abbiamo. Perché quando lo capiamo poi sta società patriarcale del cappero riusciamo pure a cambiarla!5.Tutti abbiamo bisogno di amore, ma l’amore si può trovare non sono in una relazione di coppia ma in tanti altri modi, per esempio nell’amicizia. Anche se la forma di amore più importante è l’amore per se stessi. Explore the structure and organization of the Book of Jeremiah. The book includes prophetic oracles written in poetry, historical narratives about Jeremiah, and prose speeches of the book. The book is not chronological, only Ezekiel is. The book is not topical but thematic as seen in the “harlotry cycle” in chapters 2-3, the “foe cycle” in chapters 4-6, the Temple sermon in 7:1-10:25-26 and the “confessions” in chapters 11-20. Consider Jeremiah 17:17a, 20:7, and 12:1-2. Explore a picture of the Sistine Chapel with Jeremiah and God behind him creating the world. The prophet Jeremiah was from Anathoth. We read in 1 Samuel 22:21-23, "And Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the Lord. And David said to Abiathar, ‘I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have occasioned the death of all the persons of your father's house. Stay with me; do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. With me you shall be in safekeeping.’” We also read in 1 Kings 2:26-28, "And to Abiathar the priest the king said, ‘Go to Anathoth, to your estate, for you deserve death. In 1 Samuel 2:33 we read, "The only one of you whom I shall not cut off from my altar shall be spared to weep his eyes out to grieve his heart, and all the descendants of your house shall die by the sword of men.” The prophet Jeremiah was from the Elide priesthood in Jerusalem and of the tribe of Benjamin. Jeremiah had a 40 year prophetic ministry as did Moses. Jeremiah lived a life of Isolation. Kathleen M. O'Connor in Jeremiah: Pain and Promise states, “But disaster studies point to further dimensions of Jeremiah’s isolation. Inevitably, war, exile and military occupation rupture domestic life and undermine community. Deaths of husbands, children, and the elderly, destruction of homes, land, livelihoods - these mortal imprints of war splinter families, shred relationships and isolate victims from their communities. Disaster damages the very ‘tissues of life that hold people together’. In this light, Jeremiah’s celibacy and social isolation enact the social destruction that is central to disaster. His prophetic signs perform social isolation, show it in a living picture, and give it words… as Fretheim puts it, Jeremiah’s life ‘is an embodied Word of God.’”
