Eric Floberg describes himself as "(j)ust a dad trying to run consistently, hit new goals, and motivate others to get into the running game!" But those who have seen his remarkable YouTube channel know that he much more than that. Eric has been documenting his running journey for years and has done a remarkable job of showing all the context and layers that go along with a runner working incredibly hard to reach elusive goals. In this episode we talk about that journey, the challenges along the way, and how he took his professional media skills and turned them inward to capture his running journey You can watch Eric's running YouTube channel at https://youtube.com/@flobergruns.

To be a creative storyteller is to be a listener, to be someone who is more interested in the story of others than their own. When it comes to wedding filmmaking, this means being passionately invested in the couple and who the are, making a film that is solely for them. This is Eric's philosophy for wedding filmmaking and it's how he's able to make the emotionally charged films that he does. Start with the couple, dig deep in to who they are and let that drive your creativity and your story. I’m a terrible golfer. Always have been. And I’m sure I always will be. I don’t golf much anymore but there was a time in my life when I went about every other week or so. And it was all because of Tiger Woods. Tiger made the game appealing to me…even though I was terrible. I’d watch him win, many times in dramatic fashion, on Sunday, and then think about playing all week until I could hit the links the following Saturday morning. Eric Floberg is a Photographer, Filmmaker, and Content Creator based out of Chicago, IL and he’s kind of like Tiger Woods to me. I’m not a great any of that, but he makes me want to create amazing films. I’ve dabbled with video, yes, but Eric’s work inspires me to…make stuff. I’ve had Eric on the show before and I fawned over his Tyler and Elle film. I’m still fawning. And if you haven’t check it out, please do so. But be ready. Eric is focusing much of his time on teaching now, so not only will you want to start filming and editing and creating amazing work yourself, you’ll have a direct way to learn from him via YouTube and his educational resources.
Now is the time to invest in yourself, to take this as an opportunity to develop and thrive as a creative entrepreneur. For the established videographers, it’s time for us to develop and diversify, to strengthen our businesses and clearly define our brands. For up and coming videographers, it’s time to learn and prepare for the post COVID wedding season when all the established videographers will be booked solid due to postponements. On today’s show I’m extremely excited to get to chat with a creative I’ve followed for a while now. Eric’s honest, passionate, humorous and practical approach to educating creatives is a breath of fresh air on the crowded YouTube platform. Eric and I discuss the multitude of potentials and possibilities that a time like this brings us as creatives and how we can use the time we have access to now as a resource to invest into our businesses. How in the world has it already been a year of the How To Film Weddings Podcast? Time sure does fly when you are having fun. Nick and John thought it would be fun to have a round table discussion with some of their favorites as a special 1 year episode. So we brought in Matt Johnson, and Eric Floberg. To top it off, we had Phil Danger host the conversation. Nick, John, Matt, and Eric basically cut up for an hour, talk about some behind the scenes of the podcast, answer some of Phil’s questions, and talk about why in the world we decided to do this thing in the first place! A huge thank you to the How To Film Weddings community for supporting us, and for helping us to create the best group of wedding filmmakers in the world. We can’t wait to see where we are in another year! It means the world to us that you have come along for the journey, and we will continue to push forward, helping the industry to get better every day. Ok, so this interview comes with a prerequisite. Or at least a very strong suggestion. Go to ericfloberg.com e r i c f l o b e r g .com - and watch the Tyler and Elle video before you listen to this podcast. Then, of course, come right back. We’ll still be here. Alright, so, first off. Good job doing that. Amazing, wasn’t it? Now, you’re ready to hear what’s coming from Eric Floberg. He’s in the process of building his business and his brand. He’s doing it one step at a time. He’s doing it with intentionality. He’s making things happen with hard work and he’s not doing it alone. Listen, laugh, learn, and then get to work. And seriously, if you haven’t watched the Tyler and Elle video at ericfloberg.com yet, do that first.

This podcast is all about nerding out with fellow creators on camera gear, travelling, and all that stuff we creators are obsessed with. In this podcast Eric Floberg takes over the mic. Eric is a Chicago native who has built a rather successful career in the wedding video industry. He made friends with the Mango Street crew and they have slowly been pushing him into doing more and more YouTube content. I really enjoyed this conversation with Eric. He has an outstanding level of emotional intelligence, and is a phenomenal story teller. Eric has built up a talent through years of photography work and it shows. Episode 002 was recorded on the road, I was travelling to Canada to shoot a wedding and on a total whim, shot a DM via Instagram to Eric Floberg, (by this point I hadn't even started anything for the podcast it was just an idea in my head, I had only one Microphone) of course he said yes which meant I needed to get things sorted including flights, hotels and travel dates to Chicago. I touched down in Chicago after travelling between three major Cities in Canada and the US, and the next day recorded this episode with Eric in his creative space, Creative Club Chicago. Eric is a Photographer, Filmmaker, Youtuber and Entrepreneur. We talked about a whole range of things, from shooting street photography and how to be comfortable, how he worked with Youtube stars Mango Street, and how his photography business kicked off and the struggles that come with being a sought-after wedding photographer and balancing family life. I hope you enjoy this episode and if you like Coffee Talks subscribe!
Jaxson Floberg grew up in a Duke family where fondness for the University characterized his childhood. But after watching aspects of campus culture diminish the mental health of his peers, he grapples with the structures that contribute to the isolation and conformity he sees.
