Angry parents living close by to a new school in Ebbsfleet have slammed the admissions policy – and say they were sold a dream they just haven't got. They launched a petition which forced the school to change its criteria and increase its intake after it was revealed that if it was oversubscribed, other pupils would get priority over those who live nearby. Also in today's podcast, a Herne Bay mum says she's horrified after a child found a small blade in chips bought on a Kent pier. He'd bought the portion to share with his friends and was lucky it was spotted before someone bit into it. There are calls for bosses in Tonbridge and Malling to put an end to parking restrictions which are threatening the survival of a popular farmers' market. Critics say the four hour limit is putting unwelcome pressure on traders and at this rate they'll have no market left. You can also find out which KFC outlet in Kent has been ranked as one of the country's worst when it comes to hygiene. The Colonel has responded to the claims – saying they have high standards and since the result have been working hard to get things back up to scratch. And the KentOnline Podcast has been speaking to the owners of a new family entertainment centre that's opened in Sittingbourne. The £20,000 refurb to the old Snooker and Sports bar now includes an 18-hole neon crazy golf course, pool room and darts facilities.

Sådan i virkeligheden.

Welcome to the Tearsheet Podcast. I'm Zack Miller, Tearsheet's editor in chief. On today's show, we're going to explore opportunities. These types of opportunities we'll be talking about don't come around everyday but when they do, they can be transformative, if you're able to really step up. I talk to Jannick Malling, co-CEO and co-founder of investing app, Public. For younger investors, the meme stock rally offered an opportunity to participate, many for the first time, in the stock market. And for Jannick and Public, it offered an even bigger opportunity: to scale rapidly. But this required smart moves – Jannick and team distanced themselves from competitor Robinhood's revenue model, pay for order flow, which became an important topic as it opened and closed trading windows on popular meme stocks. Jannick recognized the power in this Game Stop moment and shares his thinking that went into strategizing around it. Last week, Public also released a new generative AI investment research tool called Alpha. It helps people, both newbies and experienced investors, learn more about the investment process and specific investments. The J Word: A Podcast by Journalism Practice

Journalism sometimes gets a bad rap for its role in marginalizing voices – especially because journalism is supposed to be about tackling power structures. Guests in this episode provide their takes on sourcing the vulnerable and try to flip the script by providing some ways journalism can protect the marginalized and ignored.Mi Rosie Jahng, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Wayne State University in the U.S. and the co-author of “Reconstructing the Informal and Invisible,” helps us see how journalists are responding to the most-recent attack on their authority through cries against “fake news,” cries that are increasing public concerns that journalism doesn't stand for truth. From Spain, Mathias-Felipe de-Lima-Santos, a researcher at the University of Navarra and co-author of “Data journalism in favela,” takes a focused look at specific efforts journalists are taking to humanize data about forgotten and marginalized folk. And Milda Malling, a Ph.D. Candidate in the Journalism Department at Södertörn University in Sweden and author of “Reconstructing the informal and invisible,” reminds us that the way journalism marginalizes may be at the roots of how it works with sources, alerting us to the engrained nature of power in the press. Text Featured in this Episode:de-Lima-Santos, M.
