The UK government is vowing to enforce the new regulations thoroughly, as well as step up their act on its existing covid-19 rules. The move comes after a steep rise in coronavirus cases in recent weeks, a spike which officials say is being propelled by people in their twenties and thirties. UK correspondent Vincent McAviney speaks to Susie Ferguson.
The upcoming North v South match remains in doubt despite already having been delayed a week. The match, which was postponed to September 5, has been met with fresh doubts as the country looks set to remain in Covid-19 alert Level 2 until September 6 following the Government's announcement that Auckland will stay in lockdown for four more days until 11:59pm on Sunday, August 30.From Monday, August 31, the whole country including Auckland will be at level 2 but it will be phased in for Auckland.Mass gatherings will be restricted to 10 people at level 2, and a 50-person limit would be in place for funerals and tangi. Those settings will be in place for a week and Cabinet will review them on Sunday, September 6.Auckland's restrictions effectively rules out the match being held at Eden Park, which leaves Wellington as the likely venue, although it would have to be without fans with normal Level 2 restrictions still in place for the rest of the country.Playing the game in Dunedin is also an option under the roof of Forsyth Barr Stadium.New Zealand Rugby will provide an official update on the status of the fixture on Wednesday. The game was initially thrown into jeopardy as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak in Auckland a fortnight ago, and the resulting sudden switch to alert level 3 in Auckland, and level 2 in the rest of the country.Last week, New Zealand Rugby confirmed the match original scheduled to be played in Auckland on August 29, was postponed by a week after the news that the 14 Auckland-based players in the North squad, as well as five support staff, had not been granted an exemption to leave Auckland. If Auckland comes out of level 3 on Monday as expected, those players will be able to join the rest of the squads in Wellington on Monday to prepare for the match in the capital. The North and South squads (and the player's first province played for) are as follows:NORTH SQUADHookers:Asafo Aumua (Wellington), Ash Dixon (Hawke's Bay) and Kurt Eklund (Auckland).Props: Alex Fidow (Wellington), Ayden Johnstone (Waikato), Angus Ta'avao (Auckland), Karl Tu'inukuafe (North Harbour) and Ofa Tuungafasi (Auckland).Locks: Scott Scrafton (Auckland), Patrick Tuipulotu (Auckland and captain) and Tupou Vaa'i (Taranaki).Loose forwards: Lachlan Boshier (Taranaki), Akira Ioane (Auckland), Dalton Papalii (Auckland), Ardie Savea (Wellington) and Hoskins Sotutu (Auckland).Halfbacks: TJ Perenara (Wellington), Aaron Smith (Manawatu) and Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi (Taranaki).First five-eighths: Beauden Barrett (Taranaki).Midfielders: Rieko Ioane (Auckland), Anton Lienert-Brown (Waikato) and Peter Umaga-Jensen (Wellington).Outside backs: Caleb Clarke (Auckland), Mitchell Hunt (Auckland), Damian McKenzie (Waikato), Sevu Reece (Waikato) and Mark Telea (North Harbour).SOUTH SQUADHookers:Liam Coltman (Otago), Andrew Makalio (Tasman) and Codie Taylor (Canterbury).Props: George Bower (Otago), Alex Hodgman (Canterbury), Nepo Laulala (Canterbury), Tyrel Lomax (Tasman) and Joe Moody (Canterbury).Locks: Mitchell Dunshea (Canterbury), Manaaki Selby-Rickit (Southland) and Samuel Whitelock (Canterbury and captain).Loose forwards: Tom Christie (Canterbury), Shannon Frizell (Tasman), Dillon Hunt (Otago), Reed Prinsep (Canterbury) and Tom Sanders (Canterbury).Halfbacks: Finlay Christie (Tasman), Mitchell Drummond (Canterbury) and Brad Weber (Otago).First five-eighths: Josh Ioane (Otago) and Richie Mo'unga (Canterbury).Midfielders: Braydon Ennor (Canterbury), Leicester Faingaanuku (Tasman), Jack Goodhue (Canterbury) and Sio Tomkinson (Otago)Outside backs: Jordie Barrett (Canterbury), George Bridge (Canterbury) and Will Jordan (Tasman).A number of players were unavailable for selection due to injury, including 2019 All Blacks Dane Coles, Scott Barrett, Sam Cane and Ngani Laumape.
Some bus and taxi drivers are worried they will be abused by angry commuters who do not want to comply with new rules making masks mandatory on public transport. From Monday face coverings must be worn on all buses, taxis or ride shares when the country is at Covid-19 alert level 2 or higher. And peoples' rush to make masks to comply with the new rules also appears to be causing some headaches. Hamish Cardwell filed this report.
From Monday, tens of thousands of commuters around New Zealand will all need to check something new before they leave home - do they have a mask with them? While the country is in Alert Level 2 or higher, no-one will be allowed on a bus or a train without a face covering. This poses a new challenge for public transport operators. Scott Gallacher is Greater Wellington regional council's general manager of public transport.
Masks should be compulsory in bars and restaurants - not just on buses and trains - according to a leading public health professor. From Monday people will have to wear some kind of face covering on public transport if the country is in Alert Level 2 or above. Otago University's Nick Wilson says the government is pulling its punches on its masking policy. Health Correspondent Rowan Quinn reports.

The British Government are hoping to relax their 14-day quarantine laws. From Monday people entering the United Kingdom are subjected to a 14-day quarantine period, and could be hit with hefty fines should they break such rules.UK correspondent Gavin Grey told Kate Hawkesby people are finding holes in the Government's current quarantine laws."We can go to the Republic of Ireland and then come to the UK for instance, or of course many of those who have been told to self-isolate will probably leave the airport, get on a train packed with other people and then go and self isolate."Mr Grey said businesses are pleading for the travel industry to start-up again."What they're now suggesting is that they may well be so-called air bridges."The UK could look at other countries across Europe and think 'Yeah they've got a similar record to us in terms of dealing with this and we should have an air bridge'."

At 6 a.m. local time in Spain, people who have been cooped up in their homes for seven weeks emerged into the early morning light to run, cycle or walk after Europe's strictest coronavirus lockdown restrictions were slightly eased.Parks remain closed in Madrid, so runners and cyclists outside the capital's Retiro park used the broad avenue as a racetrack, occupying lanes normally used for traffic. Some buses and cars had to honk to get them to move over. The government has insisted people stick to 2-meter or 6-foot social distancing, especially runners and cyclists who are supposed to exercise alone, but CNN observed numerous people bunched together. At 10:25 a.m. local time, a Madrid municipal van pulled alongside a cyclist and an officer leaned out of the window to shout: "You were supposed to be home a half hour ago. A half hour ago!"But the police did not stop to issue a fine and drove off. From today, people older than 14 can take one-hour walks, accompanied by one person, once a day within half a mile of their homes, or do sports like riding a bike alone within their city. They are allowed to do this from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.The elderly had their turn a little later, with a special timetable to avoid crowds: from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and in the evening, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez posted a message to Twitter on Saturday morning asking Spaniards for caution: "Today we take a new step in the relaxation of confinement but we need to do it with caution and responsibility. The virus is still there. We need to follow the guidelines for hygiene and social distancing," he said.Spain's government moved to further ease the nation's strict confinement rules due to coronavirus earlier this week. Last weekend, children under 14 were allowed to take one-hour walks daily with their parents. The government has asked its population to wear masks if they cannot observe strict social distancing.Spain's state of emergency, with the strictest confinement rules in Europe, will continue until May 9. The new "relaxation" measures give most Spaniards more daily time outside their homes than they've had since the lockdown started on March 14, after which only short trips were allowed for food shopping and to the pharmacy. From Monday, May 4, Spain will start "Phase Zero" of its transition to "new normality" as announced by Prime Minister Sánchez last week. Some stores will be allowed to open for a limited number of clients, by appointment only, and some restaurants will be allowed to open with limited takeaway service. And just as the government further relaxed the confinement measures installed due to the virus, Spain's latest data shows the coronavirus death toll for the country has reached 25,100 since the pandemic started. The number of new deaths reported is 276, representing a 1% increase from the previous day, Spain's Director for Health Emergencies, Fernando Simon, said during his daily briefing. It was a slightly smaller increase than Friday when there were 281 new deaths. The total number of cases confirmed by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests is 216,582 while the new daily infections reported are 1,147 -- a 0.5% increase from the previous day, Simon added.Simon reiterated that Spain is continuing on a favourable trend but warned there are still risks as the nation embarks on the next phase of the de-escalation process.Health ministry figures on Saturday reported the number of health workers infected with the virus is 41,785, with 546 more cases reported since Friday.

And in particular, what does it mean for the Alternatives to Suicide Support Groups that exist in the USA in place like Boston, Connecticut, Maine and Wisconsin? There are many different words and emotions that help describe an Alternative to Suicide Support Group including: Peer-to-peer, mutual connection, relationship, honesty, transparent, genuine, present, self-help, empathy, support, life experiences, ordinary language, respect, curiosity, , self-determined, non-judgemental, , community, healing, personal agency, free, social justice, human rights, inquisitive, compassionate, spiritual, trust. These words and concepts are wrapped in warm, comfy, welcoming space where a person can be with others and share their pain, fears, shame, guilt, anger, trauma and really be heard. No risk assessments. No escalation processes. No clinicians. No one assumes they know how a person would feel and how that person would want to be supported. It is a space to express deep pain and loss. The program has been developed and is delivered by people with a lived experience of suicide. Within the groups, people can be held and heard through their absolute most painful experiences in life, they find the capacity to trust, to feel that they have worth and find connections in community. Quoting from The Story of Alternatives to Suicide Groups Peer run and led support groups of the Western Mass Recovery Learning Community, “The thing is, it’s not about recognition or prevention, it’s about being heard and being there to listen; it’s about conversation and connection. Those are the things that keep us curious about this world and keep us wondering what the next day will bring. These conversations remind us of our strength, courage and wisdom. They also remind us how important we are to others. We leave each group knowing that while the meeting is coming to a close, the relationships and conversations continue.” For me, a big take home is the acceptance that I cannot be responsible for what someone does, their choices, their ways of dealing with their pain and suffering. This is a lesson I have been working on anyway, mostly in relation to my own family members, but also to people in my professional life over the years. I cannot make choices for people. I cannot make them do something without potentially causing harm to their own sense of self. I can however hear them, share my experiences if they are relevant, be vulnerable and honest. I don’t have to agree with their choices, and I in fact I am likely to do harm if I try reject their experience are not valid or that in some way their experiences shouldn’t be causing so much pain. Up until now I was working on the risk assessment model to respond to a person who is feeling suicidal. This is what I was taught. Do you have a plan? What is the plan? Do you have the means to carry out the plan? I will now be listening a lot more than assessing. What I learned during the week in Perth with the Lisa and Caroli...
The NewspaperI can’t imagine morning breakfast without a newspaper. From Monday to Friday I haven’t much time but I always take a look to the headlines. It’s quite different on Sundays, The first I read it’s the editorial page and the local news to be well informed what happens in my town. Sometimes I listen to the news before breakfast so I skip the international section.I’m not very fond of sports so I only take a small look to this part. I like the funnies and I always do the sudoku, it doesn’t matter how difficult it can be. I’m a master.I also read the classifieds. I don’t know why but I like to know what people want to buy or would like to sell although I’ve never bought or sold anything using this method.I also read the “Travel” pages with information about cities, routes, interesting places to go on holidays, special offers, etc and the cultural section called “Babelia” where you can read from film reviews, the last published books, interviews, a bit of everything. In addition on Sundays there is always a section for fashion, technology, interior decoration, etc.As you can see there are thousands of reasons to pass half of the Sunday morning getting caught to the newspaper.
