Google fixes a few bugs, gives a quick "how-to" around tabbed navigation, advises about on-page hash-links, and provides a great tutorial on using GA4 and GSC together. Google also increases its results return-speed by 67milliseconds. That's the good stuff this week however it wasn't a good week from a classic "Don't be Evil" perspective. This week Google complied with the executive cultural nullification order to rename the Gulf of Mexico, scrapped a pledge to only use AI for peaceful purposes, shuttered DEI initiatives, and complied with another executive cultural nullification order by removing significant holidays such as Black History, Pride, Holocaust Memorial Day from Google Calendars. We also cover other changes to Google's SERPs, Yahoo!'s AI Answers using "Learn More" links, Facebook whistleblowers, the Scarlett letters AI, the BBC's analysis of LLM written news, and Reddit blaming Google for the evils of weaker than expected growth.

On January 27th 1945, the Red Army liberated the concentration camp at Auschwitz unveiling its almost unspeakable horrors to the world. The concentration camp system began almost immediately after Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933. It was an integral part of the Nazi regime's rapid dismantling of German democracy. Within weeks, the first concentration camp, Dachau, was opened to imprison political opponents, marking the start of a vast and brutal system of camps across Germany and later in the occupied territories. The camps began as places to imprison political enemies and people the Nazis deemed to be “undesirables”. But, as the Second World War progressed, these camps became centres of industrial-scale genocide, with Auschwitz becoming perhaps the most infamous. In this episode, Dan is joined by Nikolaus Wachsmann, Professor of Modern European History at Birkbeck University of London. They discuss the historical context and horrors of Auschwitz, marking Holocaust Memorial Day on the 80th anniversary of its liberation by the Red Army.Warning: This episode contains a detailed discussion of the Holocaust and genocide which some listeners may find upsetting.Sign up to History Hit for hundreds of hours of original documentaries, with a new release every week and ad-free podcasts. January 2025 The 27th of January 2025 is the eightieth anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau - an event marked annually by Holocaust Memorial Day. In order to perpetrate the mass killings and other crimes of the Holocaust, the Nazi regime needed to coordinate and communicate about its activities. This included wireless communications which were intercepted and decoded at Bletchley Park. In this episode we take a look at what the Government Code and Cypher School (Bletchley Park) knew about these Nazi crimes, how and when this information was obtained, and how western governments responded to the news. Bletchley Park's Research Historian Dr David Kenyon is joined by journalist, author and Holocaust historian Christian Jennings to discuss his work on the role of codebreaking in these terrible events. When it re-opened after the time of Covid, and Island-wide church closures, the Promenade Methodist Church in Douglas formed a Working Party of church members, to forensically examine all aspects of church life - its purpose, its finances and most importantly its future - they asked some searching questions, and even considered whether the best stewardship would be to sell the site, re-invest the proceeds in other Methodist church ministries, and form a new worshipping community elsewhere. But after much research, talking and listening it was agreed that the church on the Prom should remain - a beacon of hope - its illuminated cross visible from the ferries coming into Douglas harbour - but its outreach should now be re-shaped to meet the needs of today's local community. And so The Prom Space was born - same church - but with a new purpose! And on today's programme, two members of that Working Party - Stephanie Gray and Amanda Walker - talk about the past, the present and the future - at The Prom Space! There's also a mention of Holocaust Memorial Day on 28th January, commemorated by a special programme here on Manx Radio as part of our Island Life series of programmes, presented by Siobhan Fletcher at 5:30pm on 28/1/25 and available afterwards as a podcast.

Stephen Kapos is an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor from Budapest who has been protesting against Israel's war on Gaza, which he describes as not only genocide but a holocaust. Stephen is a member of Holocaust Survivors Against Genocide. Stephen lost 15 members of his extended family in the Holocaust and his father was interned in Belsen & Theresienstadt. He settled in London but when he visited Israel was “shocked” by the racism exhibited by Israelis, including his relatives who had also survived the Holocaust. Stephen joined The Labour Party in 1997, becoming an activist and office-holder at various local levels. Stephen resigned from the Labour party, after penning a widely circulated letter, after the Labour party warned him they would “investigate” him if he spoke at a leftist organization on Holocaust Memorial Day. He is a member of Camden branch of PSC ( Palestine Solidarity Campsign ),Camden & Islington Momentum ( affiliate of the Labour Party) and lately of the small network ‘Holocaust Survivors and Descendents Against Genocide.' ***Please support The Katie Halper Show *** For bonus content, exclusive interviews, to support independent media & to help make this program possible, please join us on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/thekatiehalpershow Get your Katie Halper Show Merch here! https://katiehalper.myspreadshop.com/all Follow Katie on Twitter: @kthalps
