At the height of leftwing activism in the Sixties, conservatives funded tax-deducible rightwing groups on campuses to counter Black Power, demands for ethnic studies, and the New Left. As historian Lauren Shepherd illustrates, such groups like Young Americans for Freedom groomed future Republican leaders and influential conservatives, like Karl Rove and Newt Gingrich. There they learned to spin unpopular politics as popular. (Encore presentation.) AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich reviews AABP activities for 2025 and provides an update on plans for activities for members in 2026. The AABP dues year has changed from a mid-year dues renewal to a calendar year dues year. If you have not renewed your dues for the 2026 dues year, please go to this link to renew your dues. AABP is funded by members and our major source of revenue is member dues and conference registration fees. AABP has three silos of activity for members which include continuing education, support of the AABP Foundation and advocacy. Gingrich discusses each silo and what AABP does for members in each one. In 2025, there were 26 RACE-approved CE events both live and recorded for our members which is greatly expanded from one annual conference per year. In 2026, we will offer even more continuing education with webinars, podcasts and publications but also the Recent Graduate and Annual conferences as well as seminars. Four seminars are planned for 2026 including the Edwin Robertson ET seminar August 3-5 at Virginia Tech; Feedlot Management seminar at Hy-Plains Feedyard in Montezuma, Kan. June 12-13; Advanced Beef Production Medicine seminar at Veterinary Agri-Health Services in Alberta, Canada July 8-10; and Dairy Youngstock Seminar in Ashland, Ohio May 1-2. AABP will also have our first virtual conference in 2026. The theme of the virtual conference will be Emerging and Evolving Diseases and providing topics on the dairy cow highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak, New World Screwworm, tuberculosis, foot-and-mouth disease, and lumpy skin disease. We will also have presentations on biosecurity for dairy farms in relation to these diseases. This conference will be live sessions over two afternoons. Registration will open in the first quarter of 2026. Gingrich also discusses the activities of the AABP Foundation which provides externship grants, education grants, scholarships and research grants. We encourage you to support the AABP Foundation to continue these initiatives. In 2025, the AABP Foundation provides $115,000 in externship/education grants, $343,000 in scholarships and $65,000 in research grants. Donate to the AABP Foundation at this link. To view the research projects supported by the AABP Foundation, go to this page and view the published research from these projects here. AABP also is involved in advocacy for all cattle veterinarians. This activity continues to expand and AABP provides advocacy to protect the VCPR, protect the scope of licensure, maintain access to xylazine and controlled drugs, and input on management of diseases of consequence for cattle veterinarians. The AABP Board of Directors thanks all of our members for their membership dues, attendance at our CE events, and your work as cattle and mixed animal veterinarians in rural communities. Best wishes to all of our members for a happy and prosperous 2026!
Chief Washington correspondent for Puck News, Leigh Ann Caldwell joins the Chuck ToddCast to unpack how Washington looks different when covered from outside the constraints of legacy media—and why independent journalism may be better suited to capture the dysfunction of Trump’s second term. Caldwell reflects on the groupthink and reaction-driven coverage that defined Trump’s first presidency, the erosion of Congress’s authority in Trump 2.0, and the deep personal animus now defining relationships on Capitol Hill. Together, she and Chuck examine how social media has shaped a younger generation of staffers, why Speaker Mike Johnson may be remembered as one of the weakest in history, and how Congress has willingly made itself irrelevant in the face of executive power. The conversation also digs into healthcare politics, looming shutdown risks, and why Republicans remain unable to act without Trump’s approval—even as he digs in against ACA subsidies out of lingering grievance toward Obama. Caldwell and Todd explore the brewing chaos inside the GOP, from mass retirements and redistricting fights to the staggering cost of House races and the nonstop fundraising grind. The episode closes with a candid assessment of party leadership heading into 2026, why a third Trump impeachment would be a mistake, and why covering Congress—rather than the White House—may now offer the clearest window into where American politics is headed. Chuck Todd examines the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein files, the uneven political fallout, and why some stories break through while others—often more consequential—don’t. The discussion then turns to public health, RFK Jr.’s corrosive influence on vaccine trust, and how misinformation is putting kids at risk just as measles cases surge. Todd closes by unpacking the growing civil war within MAGA world, where influencers—not elected officials—are driving the GOP agenda, competing for clicks with ever more extreme claims, and exposing deep cracks in Trump’s coalition. Then, chief Washington correspondent for Puck News, Leigh Ann Caldwell joins Chuck to unpack how Washington looks different when covered from outside the constraints of legacy media—and why independent journalism may be better suited to capture the dysfunction of Trump’s second term. Send us a textTerrorism abroad, chaos at home, and a Caribbean chessboard most media won't map—this episode threads them together and asks a blunt question: what does meaningful deterrence look like when our rivals profit from our disorder? We open with Australia's attack and widen the lens to a triad of tactics—drugs, criminal pipelines, and propaganda—flowing through Venezuela with cover from Russia and China. If addiction footage props up autocrats, then narco-boats aren't just crime; they're strategy. That's why we dig into interdictions at sea, the argument for taking off the kid gloves, and the danger of letting Congress micromanage commanders while ducking its own basic work on healthcare and immigration. The middle chapter turns to maps and muscle. Rand Paul warns that aggressive redistricting could spark violence; we look at decades of blue-state gerrymanders that erased GOP seats without riots and ask why Republicans should keep playing defense against a playbook that's already cost them representation. We unpack packing and cracking, the limits of federal courts on partisan maps, and the reality that hardball—lawful, strategic, and unapologetic—wins terrain where hand-wringing loses it.We close with kitchen-table economics that aren't just about groceries. Newt Gingrich's Reagan–Trump parallels set the stage for a shift: wages edging past inflation, energy markets stabilizing, and the pressing need to tackle healthcare, housing, and insurance costs that drain families long after checkout. Add a clear stance on immigration—welcoming legal pathways while shutting down illegal flows that depress wages—and the narrative sharpens into a plan: restore deterrence, restore supply-side momentum, and restore clarity on what actually moves paychecks and prices. If this conversation hits a nerve, follow along, subscribe, and share it with someone who cares about borders, maps, and paychecks. Unleashed! The Political News Hour with Mayor Deb – Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, wrote the foreword to the aforementioned novel. Gingrich wrote, “The threat is real, and we as Americans must face that threat, prepare, and know what to do to prevent it. For if we do not, 'one second after,' the America we know, cherish and love, will be gone forever.”

Send us a textAs we open this episode , we will see Bob Dole truly become the last man standing from an era of political figures who had dominated the scene for over two decades. There would be two Senate leadership races as George Mitchell retired as the Democratic Leader and Alan Simpson faced a challenge in his position as Bob Dole's number two man in Republican leadership. Both races would be decided by one vote. We will hear Senator Tom Daschle describe the situation that unfolded on the democratic side after his opponent, Senator Jim Sasser of Tennessee, was defeated in his election. That left Tom Daschle facing a last minute challenge from the much more Senior Senator from Connecticut, Chris Dodd. Daschle will tell the story in his oral history of how he won the election to replace George Mitchell as Democratic Leader. Then we will hear from both candidates in the race for Republican Majority Whip as Dole's longtime Whip faced a challenge from a rising political star in the Senate and former House Whip in Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi. It would come down to one vote, and Simpson would lose. That race would leave Bob Dole the only leader left from a generation of leaders who had been at the helm of government for decades. Representative Bob Michel had retired in the most recent election cycle, Speaker Tom Foley was defeated, Alan Simpson lost his Whip post, George Mitchell retired, and in 1992 George H. W. Bush had been defeated for President. The only member of leadership in either party that was still there was Bob Dole, and it would again come to him to keep everyone on track as we head into 1995. Send us a textThe power switch was swift as all eyes fell on the Republican leadership in the hours after the Republicans swept to to power in both houses of Congress. There was a push for moving the Contract with America's agenda to the forefront, talk of downsizing the staffs in Washington, and both leaders were busy ironing out what exactly their agendas were going to be. Then came an even bigger piece of news. That Senator Richard Shelby arguably the last Southern Conservative Democrat was ready to finally come over. Senator Phil Gramm had been trying to convince him for years but Shelby had remained loyal to the Democratic Party, but as you will hear, he just did not feel it was home any longer, and he was going with the ever rising tide in Alabama before he found himself politically homeless. Richard Shelby became a Republican, and he would remain one for the rest of his career which lasted until 2022 when he retired from the Senate. Find your No Kings Protest March/Rally at https://www.nokings.org/ This week, we're asking the only question that matters: Will what we do actually help? What does it mean to be "effective" in the fight to save democracy? Did throwing pies at Bill Kristol, Rupert Murdoch, or Newt Gingrich ever change anything? And why should we always ask ourselves the Bridge of Spies question: "Would it help?"We'll explore how the Irish Grapefruit Ladies fought apartheid and won, and why the Civil Rights movement succeeded—not just because of peaceful discipline, but because national media attention forced the federal government to act. What happens when the entire dynamic reverses and the racist thug is in the White House instead of standing in the schoolhouse door? This a voter problem—a "Vox Populi" problem—not just a Trump problem. The word of the day is "effective." Let's figure out what that means.Photo from Charlottesville protest by Ted Eytan via https://inkstickmedia.com/ (Creative Commons). Not safe for work. Constitutional Chats hosted by Janine Turner and Cathy Gillespie
There's one for George Washington. Thomas Jefferson has one. Not to overlook the President who served between those two, our country has a concerted to build a memorial to John Adams and his family on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. To discuss this process, the hurdles involved and why President Adams-and his family-is deserving of such an honor, we are delighted to welcome Jackie Gingrich Cushman, chair of the Adams Memorial Commission and president of the Adams Memorial Foundation to our chat this week.
-Carson opens with his trademark humor and fiery commentary, comparing Donald Trump's resilience to Ronald Reagan's legacy and citing Newt Gingrich's claim that Trump is the most transformative president since Washington and Lincoln. -Adam Gillette, president of Accuracy in Media, joins to expose how city governments secretly rebrand DEI programs under misleading titles like “excellence” or “mental health.” Today's podcast is sponsored by : BIRCH GOLD - Protect and grow your retirement savings with gold. Send us a textWhen the sun rose on November 9, 1994, Washington D.C. had had a seismic shift in the politics it had known for nearly a half century. Even the House Speaker Tom Foley, of Washington State, had lost his seat in Congress. There is hardly words that can describe how brutal the night before had been for the Democratic Party and its President Bill Clinton. The Contract for America had nationalized the election and every congressional candidate had run on the platform in the Republican Party and they had all , to a man , won. The Democrats had had a few bright spots, Senator Ted Kennedy had survived his brush with political death from the challenge of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and LBJ's Son in Law Chuck Robb had beaten back Iran Contra Scandal figure Oliver North. But the bright spots had been few and far between. The Democrats had seen some of their brightest stars extinguished from Governor Mario Cuomo of New York , to Governor Ann Richards of Texas, Former Budget Committee Chairman Dan Rostenkowski was defeated, the Speaker had lost, Representative Jack Brooks lost, and a new Republican star named Lindsey Graham had quietly won a seat in South Carolina. Bob Dole would be returning to his position as the Senate Majority Leader as opposed to being just the Minority Leader, and with all this change captivating the attention of the nation, and its capitol city, Washington D.C., it left President Bill Clinton standing at a podium proclaiming to whomever would listen that "the President is still relevant here." It was a case of total victory, and the Capitol was now "Under new Management." JB White wrestles with technical gremlins but still manages to deliver a lively, heartfelt, and downright entertaining episode of The RattlerGator Report. Between camera chaos and on-air troubleshooting, JB shares laughs with the chat while weaving in sharp political commentary. He highlights Newt Gingrich's powerful praise of Trump, calling him one of the greatest presidents since Washington and Lincoln, and explores how Trump's diplomacy and vision for peace are reshaping history. Even amid the broadcast hiccups, JB brings signature southern humor, reflections on family and football, and a reminder that perseverance is part of the Badlands spirit. From glitches to Gingrich, it's a uniquely human episode that proves not every show needs to go as planned to hit home.
Send us a textIt is election day 1994 at last, and this is the coverage of that historic night. For the first time in 40 years the Republicans will take control of Congress. It is a clean sweep too, the Republicans would win in every category and level of government. They would win the control of the House, the Senate, the Governors Mansions, and the State Legislatures, it was a total and complete victory. Bill Clinton was clearly on the ropes and the spotlight would move down Pennsylvania Avenue to a new star that was about to dominate the conversation for the next year, the new Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from Georgia, Newt Gingrich. But that would all come later, after this night. On this night, without question, at least in my lifetime, this was the biggest night for the Republican Party ever. While Newt Gingrich would get the majority of the spotlight, and people would be looking for the reaction that would be coming out of the White House, from Bill Clinton. One man, in my opinion, could truly kick back and say, he had been the one continuous leader that had brought his party back from the brink after the disaster of 1992. Of everyone involved, this was truly Bob Dole's night. Send us a textAs we close in on election day in 1994, both President Bill Clinton and Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole, hit the campaign trail as the de-facto heads of each party to try and pull their candidates through all across the country. We will look at them both as they have rallies across the country from Seattle, to Denver, to two national radio addresses. The stakes are sky high as both of them fight hard for their two teams as the balance of power in both houses of congress teeters on the verge of victory or defeat for both sides of the aisle. Kevin and Alex can't help but revel in the glorious late-summer weather. They joke about meteorologist Dean Wysocki's stubborn refusal to forecast a 90-degree day, and a listener even complains about their beautiful weather from a rainy London. The show's hosts also share some of the day's unofficial holidays, from National Boyfriend Day to World Temperance Day. Next, the show's hosts get into the weeds of the "Schumer Shutdown," and the Democrats' seemingly disastrous strategy. They mock the 24-hour live stream event that drew only 36 viewers and praise Donald Trump's use of memes to troll his opponents. Newt Gingrich joins in on the fun, offering his "totally uninformed guess" that Democrats' strategy is concocted by a small group "with enough cocaine". The episode wraps up with a truly heartwarming segment featuring Cassie Skalicky from Rebuilding Together Fargo-Moorhead Area. Cassie discusses her organization's mission to repair and modify homes for senior citizens, veterans, and people with disabilities who are in financial need. She explains that her organization's waiting list is so long that they've had to create a "waiting list for the waiting list". They're hosting a fundraiser to reach their goal of $31,000 by Halloween to help the community. Standout Moments: 90-Degree Debate: Kevin and Dean's hilarious, ongoing bet over whether Fargo will hit 90 degrees in October. Political Puns: The hosts and their guests riff on everything from the "Schumer Shutdown" to Trump's "Sombrero Meme." Heartfelt Fundraiser: The segment with Rebuilding Together highlights a critical community need and offers a way to help.

It's Hump Day, and the Need to Know Morning Show is buzzing! In this packed episode, we dive deep into the political and cultural wars, starting with Pete Hegseth's explosive speech on restoring merit and lethality to the military, rebranding it as the "War Department." We also get the financial lowdown on the government shutdown's minimal market impact, an update on the local harvest, and essential fall lawn and garden advice from expert Don Kinzler, including the importance of a sharp mower blade for a lush lawn. Key Moments: 02:07 - Newt Gingrich discusses the "Schumer Shutdown," arguing that the Democratic Senate and House leaders, both from liberal New York City, are completely "out of touch with America" on spending and the government closure. 09:51 - Pete Hegseth delivers a powerful address on eliminating "woke garbage" from the military, demanding high, gender-neutral standards, and requiring all personnel—including generals—to pass a PT test twice a year. 11:04 - Hegseth announces a new directive: all combat positions must return to the highest male physical standard only, stressing that if women can meet it, "excellent," but "if not, it is what it is". 13:50 - Hegseth explains the name change from the Department of Defense to the "War Department," asserting that the US has not won a major war since the change in 1947 and that "We fight wars to win, not to defend". 18:50 - Bridgette Readel warns farmers about cyber security, stating that farm data should be considered intellectual property and must be protected as tightly as a bank account. 24:00 - Money Man Brien Krank discusses how the stock market typically ignores a government shutdown, which actually shows a slight bias to the upside, but notes that Trump is changing the terms by threatening to fire non-essential employees instead of just furloughing them. 26:48 - The hosts discuss a breaking drug pricing deal in which Pfizer will lower the cost of its medications for Americans. 33:38 - Don Kinzler confirms that the recent warm weather has stalled the fall color change because cool evening temperatures are needed to form red and scarlet pigments. 37:37 - Kinzler explains that keeping your mower blade sharp is crucial for lawn health because a crisp cut creates less evaporation, helping the grass stay greener and preserve moisture.

SEASON 4 EPISODE 19: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump is escalating his terror campaign against you. If you oppose him, if you criticize him, if you even question him, he will try to call YOU a terrorist, put YOU on a terrorism BLACKLIST. And if that doesn’t work, ARREST you, and if THAT doesn’t work, invade your state and terrorize IT. On the other hand, he has apparently TACO’d out on his terrorist invasion of Portland now saying “well I mean we’re certainly LOOKING AT IT.” But on the OTHER OTHER hand National Security Presidential Memorandum Seven is not on hold; in it Trump claims the right to prosecute you for domestic terrorist if you express quote “anti-Christianity” or oppose the government in any way. Get you indicted when there is literally no case, like James Comey. Or reenact the McCarthy Era blacklist and try to get you fired, as with Lisa Monaco. Or just label you a domestic terrorist because you called Stephen Miller a "fascist." When Stephen Miller has called 150 million Democrats "fascists." That'll be quite the indictment against Miller. Which reminds me: Fox's Jesse Watters calls Miller a "sexual matador." Which I presume means he winds up getting gored in the groin. And just to bring this up a notch, Trump's insanity is growing and it certainly looks like over the weekend, he wanted his social media followers to believe he can bestow upon them the gift of immortality. Not IMMORALITY, "immortality." The saga of Trump's Med Beds and RFK jr's face. B-Block (34:20) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Isabel Vincent writes the weakest New York Post hit job on me in the history of New York Post hit jobs. The breaking news? An anonymous source says I may have been rude to a waiter in 1997. Marco Rubio bans the president of Colombia, tags him on twitter, tags the wrong guy. And Newt Gingrich complains about Abby Spanberger not voting for a particular bill in the House this month. Maybe because she hasn't been a member of the house since January? (45:47) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It's Stevie Week! Thirteen years ago tomorrow since I was born again in dogs, when Olivia Nuzzi and I were adopted by a tiny Maltese who opened up a new world to me. C-Block (1:06:00) PART TWO OF STEVIE WEEK: The adventures of Stevie and the five dogs who have followed her, including a cameo appearance from the Gotcha Day Girl herself.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, Lisa sits down with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for a candid conversation about Donald Trump’s lasting impact on American politics. It's almost unthinkable the son of a just departed president could be as unhinged as Hunter Biden. The former first son is sitting down for interviews and firing shots at everyone else in the democrat party and it's glorious. Oh, and he's not doing his dad's legacy any favors in the process despite the fact he's trying to help. House Speaker Mike Johnson says he's not afraid to investigate Barack Obama for his role in operation Russia Hoax. But Johnson stops way short of making any promises. Newt Gingrich has written a brilliant column showing how the Congressional Budget Office works against Republicans, and especially Mr. Trump. Wait until you hear the numbers. Salvy hit two more bombs as the Royals blast the Cubs. Man, when this guy is hot, the Royals are hard to beat. What a legend. We are usually a big fan of Colin Cowherd but wait until you hear why he thinks the Chiefs will finish third in the division this year. The Big 12 rejects $250 million from the University of Memphis to join the league and we remember one of the stars of the Cosby Show.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 136: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Gavin Newsom has reached his "EFF IT" moment - and it might prove to be the moment we began to save the democracy. If you MISSED Newsom’s speech (and trust me, I did, its only failure was its rollout) I am going to play the whole thing at the end of the first segment because it was that good. Eight minutes of escalating but suppressed righteous indignation bordering on rage – eight minutes building towards Eff-It - of which I think I am still the Official Exclusive East Coast Distributor. I think I KNOW my eight-minute suppressed righteous indignation speeches and this was outstanding. Newsom alone has realized that all you have to do is stop playing Trump's version of this game, and introduce him to a NEW version in which the Mike Tyson Law applies - and he will have no chance. And Mike Tyson’s law – is that everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.” As you listen to the speech, my connoisseur’s advice is to listen to the slow burn and the rapidly decreasing time between each metaphorical shot Newsom takes. It’s not just the FIRST grown-up speech responding to Trump’s evil. It’s a really good one. And it ends with… Trump getting metaphorically punched in the face. But consider the larger context. Newsom’s emergence – this is a stupid analogy but it somehow works – was like a caterpillar emerging as a gigantic butterfly, a butterfly equipped with nukes, a stealth bomber butterfly – and THAT was last Friday with his threat to crash Trump by withholding all of California’s federal taxes, all 692 billion of it – THE economic civil war game-ender I have been advocating out here in the wilderness for a decade. Then he says “wait, I’m not finished yet” and he goes back inside the cocoon for a minute and comes out even LARGER with MORE nukes and now he is THE Resistance, THE Democratic Party, and THE hope to save America. A week ago Gavin Newsom was posting a podcast with quote “Doctor” Phil McGraw, who did a ride along with ICE raiders. June 4: glad-hand interview that utter fraud Phil McGraw AFTER glad-hand interviewing Newt Gingrich, Michael Savage, Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon. June 6: respond to Trump’s threats to kneecap California by threatening to lead a TAX STRIKE – the most liberal, progressive, in-your-face political protest proposed this century. June 7-8-9: come back and TOP that with calling the bluff of these Halloween Mask bullies like Trump and Tom Homan. June 10: give this speech. So, now the question is: Why haven’t any other Democratic so-called leaders followed Newsom over the top into no-man’s land even though he went first and discovered there are 100 to 200 million Americans just standing there waiting for somebody to lead them against Trump? B-Block (38:22) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Senator Kevin Cramer, who has never held a real job in his life (an entire career as a politician or failed political candidate) doesn't see the need for ANY federal minimum wage. Tulsi Gabbard thinks the "elites" have underground bunkers in which they can survive nuclear war.
