This removal echoes a broader trend in the 1990s, particularly in comic books, where a shift toward darker, more serious content led to the elimination of lighter elements. This period, known as the Dark Age of Comic Books, was marked by an increased focus on mature themes, often at the expense of narrative depth and complexity.Transitioning back to the Leagues of Votann, we discuss their canonization and the fate of the Mad Core, a Votann that once served the Emberg-Aegnir Bloc League before its destruction by Hive Fleet Leviathan. The Cores have been inundated with excessive and often duplicate data, unable to efficiently process the vast amount of information from the growing civilization of the Votann.The episode further delves into the complex societal structure of the Leagues, including their Iron Kin, guilds, and intricate relationships with other races. We also shed light on the Galactic Core, their original home, emphasizing its extreme inhospitability and the challenges faced by the Leagues in this harsh environment.Originally part of the Imperium, the Kin of the Leagues of Votann have a complicated relationship with their human roots. Today on The Neil Haley Show, Neil "The Media Giant" Haley and Paul Hollis will interview Luke T Barnett. Luke T. Barnett grew up on a steady diet of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Superheroes. As an awkward kid with ADD, good stories, movies, and video games were his great escape. Star Trek to Star Wars, Dragonlance to Wizard of Earthsea, X-men to Teen Titans, Armitage III to Cowboy Bebop. With all these good stories rolling around inside his brain, he longed to tell his own stories and began writing fanfictions and original works in grade school. His first works, which were school assignments, were praised by his teachers. By adulthood, he had discovered anime and the world of pen & paper role-playing games. He wrote several short works based on his characters and fanfictions based on the video games and tabletop games he played. (You can find one of his most extensive works on fanfiction.net under the name bardoftoday.) His first publication was in a local gaming newsletter which featured an early version of his Cryos & Jade series. His first full-length novel, Half-Orc Redemption, was based on a 3rd edition D&D character, a half-orc barbarian named Gash Bloodaxe. He published this novel in 2017 and had it revised and edited in 2019. He has also resurrected Cryos and Jade, completely rewriting and enriching the story and characters to tie in with his Half-Orc series. In 2021 he began work on a sweeping sci-fi epic called Galactic Core. It is inspired by the many sci-fi and anime movies and TV shows he has enjoyed over the years. His current plans are to continue working on Galactic Core, the Half-Orc and Cryos & Jade sagas, Mutant Girl (a YA highschool, superhero series) and write short stories for different anthologies while doing ghostwriting and book blurb writing on the side to provide for his family.

Last month, we learned that the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy was flaring, although no one was sure why. Now, astronomers from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have revealed more about what they think may be driving this unprecedented event. Lying at the heart of the Milky Way, the Sagittarius A* or Sgr A* black hole is typically a relatively gentle giant. But when astronomers analyzed 13,000 observations of it from 133 nights since 2003, they found that on May 13 of this year the matter around the black hole glowed twice as brightly as usual. The same bright flaring was observed on two other nights this year as well. This indicates the black hole is consuming much more dust and gas on these nights than is usual. “We have never seen anything like this in the 24 years we have studied the supermassive black hole,” Andrea Ghez, professor of physics and astronomy at UCLA and a co-author of the research, said in a statement. “It's usually a pretty quiet, wimpy black hole on a diet. We don't know what is driving this big feast.”

Happy Perseids everybody! It is the week of the peak of the annual Perseid Meteor shower. This coming Aug. 11th. 12th and 13th mark the three mornings that will showcase the peak of the Perseids with as many as 50 meteors an hour often more! So how do you get the most out of this opportunity? Today on the Astro Photog Podcast, Aaron goes over advice for those WITH and WITHOUT plans to photograph the meteor shower then ends with a new segment Geek Time in honor of Brendon's Gear Time. In the Astro Primer I give the news most of you already know, it is New Moon week and with that comes great nights EVERY night. The Northern Hemisphere has a vertical Milky Way from the moment full darkness starts up until the Galactic Core sets on you early in the morning. The core sets LONG before the Astronomical Twilight period begins so plan on going out at the beginning of the night. The Southern Hemisphere night begins with the Core high in the sky and then moves into a better position for photography come early morning before the Galactic Core sets beyond the horizon around 4am Perth, Australia time. The highlight of the Astro Primer is the main subject of today's podcast, the Perseid Meteor Shower! One of the year's BEST Meteor Showers is appearing without the moon again and is set to make 2018 a magical time for Meteor Shower photography! The podcast begins with general Meteor viewing tips as given from the EarthSky.org article linked below. The tips are: 1- Find a dark, open sky with as little obstructions that you can get so you can see all the many meteors across the sky 2- Give yourself at least an hour of observing time to see a lot and most importantly, get your eyes adjusted to the darkness of night 3- Know that all meteors all come from a single point in the sky, the radiant 4- Bring a reclining chair and some warm drink of your choice to fully enjoy in massive comfort 5- Be patient! All good things come to those that wait!
