Kommittéernas beslut formas av mer än vetenskaplig excellens. Visionära pionjärer som anses ligga för långt före sin tid får ofta vänta – eller bli utan när det gått för lång tid. Samtidigt missgynnas forskare som rör sig i alltför breda fält där många gör liknande insatser. Det finns helt enkelt för många forskare att välja bland och svårt att hitta de enskilda genombrotten. Arkivstudier avslöjar också hur sociala faktorer, kampanjer och prestige påverkar vilka som belönas. I arkiven hittar de också kontroversiella metoder, obalans mellan könen och hur strategiskt nätverkande använts för att lobba för vissa nominerade forskare. För att leda kreativa team till framgång krävs både individualiserat ledarskap och tydlig koppling till affärsmål, menar serieentreprenören Carl Fredrik Sammeli. I en intervju i Kommunikationspodden delar den tidigare Prime-grundaren med sig av sina erfarenheter kring hur man får kreativa människor att leverera affärsnytta. Sammeli, som ledde kommunikationsbyrån Prime till internationella framgångar inklusive utmärkelser i Cannes Lions, pekar på en vanlig utmaning: att få kreativa individer att se kopplingen mellan sitt arbete och kundens affärsbehov. – Många kreativa personer behöver motiveras att se att det är en kommersiell problemlösning vi ägnar oss åt. Vi använder kreativitet som metod för att lösa kommersiella problem, säger Sammeli i Kommunikationspodden. En huvudpoäng i Sammelis ledarskapsfilosofi är att kreativa personer kräver individuell hantering. Han exemplifierar med en av sina tidigare anställda som fick magont av byråns prestationsmätningar med att en annan chef fick inskrivet sitt anställningskontrakt att byrån skulle bli bäst i världen – ett mål som uppnåddes fyra år senare. – Där var hårda mål bra. Han var kanske den som betydde mest i resan att göra oss bäst i världen. Lösningen för Prime blev att dela ledarskapet mellan olika personlighetstyper, där olika personer ansvarade för kreativitet, intäkter respektive kostnader. Trots att individualitet är viktigt i ledarskapet, förespråkar Sammeli starkt ett kollektivt arbetssätt. Hans recept för framgångsrika kreativa team är tydligt: – Professionellt arbetssätt, höga ambitionsnivåer och bra människor. Det attraherar. Och du måste leverera i vardagen till de här människorna. Ge dem empati, passion och glädje av att lösa problem tillsammans. Då får du högpresterande kreativa team, avslutar han. – Jag tror på det kreativa geniet i en kollektiv kontext. De som tycker det är skoj att lösa saker tillsammans med andra bra personer, de kan vara kreativa genier i en kollektiv kultur.
