When you really dig into the inner work process, the first place to begin is to stop worshipping and praying at the altar of perpetual growth and ascension. We are obsessed. We are addicted. We are fixated on and relient on this need to be special and this need to grow and this denies us the experience of a kind of falling apart. No man wants to fall apart and come into contact with the realities of what his grief might have to teach him. The fact is that when we really get present to it, what we're actually afraid of is that we don't know what that's going to look like. We are terrified of what will happen on the other side of not worshipping the 'God of Growth' and beginning to allow the wisdom of this grief to enter. - Connor Beaton   Get 15% off your CURED Nutrition order with the code WELLNESSFORCE at wellnessforce.com/CURED   ---> Get The Morning 21 System: A simple and powerful 21 minute system designed to give you more energy to let go of old weight and live life well.   JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | *REVIEW THE PODCAST*   Wellness Force Radio Episode 406 TEDx Speaker and the Founder of ManTalks, Connor Beaton, shares his own journey of coming back from rock bottom, the healing power of shadow work, how men can begin the process of fathering their inner child, and why the war of the sexes is officially over.   Are you ready to begin the journey towards deep radical healing?   Discover why pain has its own intelligence and what it can teach us when we are present to its guiding wisdom.   CURED Nutrition Save 15% off your CURED Nutrition order with the code WELLNESSFORCE at wellnessforce.com/cured It's taken me over a year to find the right hemp and CBD company to introduce to the Wellness Force Community and I could not be more thrilled that it's CURED Nutrition! How the mask and the illusion he had built around himself started to crumble and impact those around him. His past destructive behavior patterns and how he worked to overcome and be anew. So-called "rules" that men learn including "You don't talk about what it's like to be a man" especially if it doesn't fit into the typical male role. Francis Weller Breaking down how our pain as its own intelligence and why men are taught not to observe that and it is crippling them. The fact that Connor couldn't cope with the pain that he felt inside that led to fights, dangerous behavior, and infidelity because that's what he thought a man should do to stuff it down. Why we shouldn't suppress our feelings and pain but explore and express them to help us heal.   [15:00] Pain Has Its Own Wisdom How embracing the emotional pain during his 10-Day Vision Quest allowed Josh to heal past wounds he had carried for decades. The fact that our body is always trying to communicate with us at all times. Connor's experience really tuning into his pain for the first time and see what it was doing to those that he loved the most. What steps men can take to begin unpacking and exploring their emotions and pain. Why we are obsessed and relient on this need to be special and this need to grow but it denies us the experience of falling apart and healing. The fear Connor had that his life would dismantle should he allow himself to feel his pain and listen to his grief. Carl Jung Questions to begin asking yourself including, 'What have you been denying about in your life?' What it means to go "into the cave" and experience the dark night of the soul that will ultimately lead you on your Hero's Journey.   [30:30] Shadow Work & Self Healing Breaking down the keys to shadow work and begin the self healing process. How to pay attention to how you react and why that response is so important to understanding your shadow and where you go when you are unconscious. The benefits of keeping a journal of what you react to, how you reacted, and what narrative runs through your mind when the shadow self comes out. Unpacking the differences between responding from the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nervous systems and applying that to your fight, fight, or freeze response. Exploring capital "T" and lower case "t" trauma for men especially if they have experienced sexual trauma, physical abuse, or a family member with a mental health illness. Why men who have been abused either have a "fawn" response where they freeze or they people please because it is safer for them. Unpacking the co-dependent saying "Happy wife, happy life" and how it keeps people back from doing the real inner work. Why we, and especially men, over rely on our intellectual understanding of things but struggle with intuition and emotions in relationships. Conner's decision to not call it therapy but training because men are missing skill sets that they actually need in order to have fully functional relationships, careers, health, romantic relationships, and self fulfillment. What past narratives Connor had to unlearn so that he could learn new trainings such as the arts of self discipline.   [44:30] How To Begin The Shadow Work Exploring the law of reciprocity and how it relates to things happening for us instead of to us. Why he believes that in some way karma is what we attract because we believe we deserve it. How our pain unconsciously attracts what we don't want in life and that's why we should be paying attention to what it's telling us. Why the shadow work is not a golden bullet for automic healing but it is an important part of the process. The importance of easing into doing the shadow work by first realizing what areas of your life you are avoiding. A shadow work game Connor would play with himself by catching himself whenever he lied to others and then autocorrect that behavior real time. What he believes shadow work is in 2021 and why so many people are abusing the word and practice. How Carl Jung came up with the concept of the shadow self and shadow work. Connor's own experience with shadow work and working with parts of himself that he was hiding from others. How Connor helps people with addiction and the 12- step process. Why he believes that addiction is often an attachment dysfunction. How spirituality comes into place with the process of healing from addiction.   [57:30] The War Of The Sexes Is Over The different programs that are available at ManTalks to help you with the healing process. What the ManTalks group, The Alliance, is about and why it's a safe space for men to have challenge based relationships to help them grow. Why we need to stop focusing on bringing a matriarchy or a patriarchy into power and instead create a humanity arch together to lead from a place of wholeness and not wounding. Stephen Jenkinson Breaking down the actual etymology of the word, "patriarchy," why it doesn't mean putting men on a pedestal, and how it applies to our world in 2021. Why a lot of the work that we do as men is to learn how to father ourselves. How ManTalks and The Alliance help men tend to and father themselves but also integrate and initiate themselves through the obstacles they're facing into more sovereign, self led men who can bring their gifts into the world. Why there is no more "war of the sexes" and we can work together as one in society while honoring our core differences and similarities. When men enter this work, they think, 'Okay, I'm going to work on my shadow; I'm going to do shadow work,' or 'I'm going to go to therapy, I'm going to get a therapist.' They do so almost always from the place of: I just want that one ultimate equation that's going to liberate me so I can get away from this. They want to make it as pragmatic as possible but you know, you're entering into territory that may not work like that and you have have to consider that. Consider that what got you into the dysfunction that you have been in may not be the path that is going to get you out of it. That perhaps, you're going to have to learn a very different, equally valuable lesson when you begin the real inner work." - Connor Beaton   Facing Your Shadow   "Carl Jung's work focused on facing the shadow; facing the parts of you that you have been rejecting and hiding and avoiding. Start there to begin your inner work journey and ask, 'What have I been rejecting about myself? What have I been avoiding? What have I been denying about myself and lying about in my life?' Start there by working on those aspects because when we do, we begin to reveal that parts of ourselves that we have hidden from the people that we love and then we wonder why we don't feel like they really know us.... ...So, begin with the things that you have been neglecting about who you are or begin with the parts that you have been rejecting of what your life actually looks like. For some men this is very challenging because it means that they have to come into contact with the truth that maybe they're not as happy and things aren't as perfect as they had been selling to the world for years." - Connor Beaton   How To Father Your Inner Child     "The work that we do in many ways is about learning how to father ourselves as men. That we stop offloading the responsibility of our wellness, of our strength, of our confidence, of our wellbeing onto other people because the truth is, if we're really honest, there's a lot of men out there who have no idea how to tend to the wounded child that they've been carrying around for years. Where has he gone? If you've been abused as a child, where did that child go? Nowhere; he's in you - he is you and if you don't know how to take care of him, he's going to cause havoc in your life. If you don't know how to parent him and father him, he's going to cause havoc if you become a father." - Connor Beaton   Links From Today's Show  ManTalks Podcast Get a discount for Man Talks Shadow Work Program with the code 'WELLNESSFORCE' 386 Mark Groves ManTalks Podcast: Josh Trent – Breaking Through the Barriers of Our Own Past, Pain and Failures Francis Weller Carl Jung Stephen Jenkinson Duey Freeman Paleovalley - Save 15% on your ACV Complex with the code 'JOSH' Drink LMNT – Zero Sugar Hydration: Get your free LMNT Sample Pack, you only cover the cost of shipping Belcampo Meat Co Botanic Tonics - Save 20% with the code 'WELLNESS20' Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes breathwork.io M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Connor Beaton Facebook Instagram Twitter ManTalks Facebook YouTube Instagram   About Connor Beaton Connor Beaton, the founder of ManTalks. He was raised to believe that being a man meant you had to follow certain rules. The most notable one is like the first rule of Fight Club: don't talk about it. For most of his life, he believed all men had the same rule. Shut up and deal with it. Man up. Over the next few years, he learned to take his trauma, shame, and denial—all the shadowy parts of himself—and integrate them. He spent thousands of hours learning and training. He consulted psychologists, historians, neurologists, and authors. Connor trained for years under mentors and leaders in Jungian psychology, somatic therapy, and holotropic breathwork. Today I talk with new Thriller author Connor Sullivan. I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of his debut book Sleeping Bear, and really liked it. For those who like mega best-selling author Jack Carr's books (he has been on the podcast in two prior episodes) I know you will enjoy Connor's book as well. As always, don't tune out, as we dig into a lot of different topics besides Connor's new book! Connor Sullivan attended the University of Southern California, where he was the recipient of the Edward W. Moses Award for Creative Writing. During college, he interned for Warner Brothers reading screenplays before relocating with his family to the Gallatin Valley in Montana. His first novel is Sleeping Bear. What some people are saying about Connor's debut novel: “SLEEPING BEAR is one of the very best thrillers you'll read this year. It's one of those rare novels that keeps getting better and better and better.” — James Patterson— James Patterson “SLEEPING BEAR clamps you in its jaws and doesn't let go.  A fierce, relentless beast of a novel!”— Tess Gerritsen “Authentic, compelling, and utterly gripping.”— Robert Dugoni “SLEEPING BEAR is the best kind of thriller, an ice-water hit to the veins. With enviable talent, Connor Sullivan introduces himself to the book-loving public, earning a spot on the shelf among Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, and Jack Carr. Don't miss this stunning debut.” — Gregg Hurwitz Topics Discussed:  * What was it that inspired Connor to become an author * How Connor overcame a major sports injury, and had to change his direction in life * Why did Connor use Alaska for his story as his primary location  * How he was an odd-ball while going to film school at USC * How he came up with his writing process * Why hard work can allow you to overcome most obstacles in life * How even though his father is a best-selling author himself Connor had to find his own way * Why becoming an author and making a living at it is so difficult * Why books just don't happen they take years to write * Understanding everyone sucks when they learn something new it is just the way it goes * Why having focus and organizational skills is important in everything you do * Some advice for those looking to become a writer * Why Gary and Connor recommend Stephen Pressfield's book “The War of Art” * How the housing boom in Montana is completely out of control and pricing locals out of their own hometowns * Why you shouldn't buy a house right now * Gary's opinion on the housing market and why this one is a little different than previous booms Episode Resources: * Connor's website: https://connorsullivanauthor.com/ * Gary's online courses for living more rural and finding the simple life: https://www.thesimplelifenow.com/course-catalog/  * The Simple Life Website: https://www.thesimplelifenow.com  *Make sure to signup and be a member of The Simple Life Insider's Circle at: https://www.thesimplelifenow.com/the-simple-life/

Are you facing battles with the Shadow? Have you found that you tend to self-sabotage the things and relationships in your life? If so, you'll want to hear this episode because I brought on a great friend of mine, Connor Beaton. Connor is a coach, teacher and speaker that helps men (and women) walk through their darkness. He talks about the Shadow and what that means to him. Connor talks about managing conflict in your relationships. He also shares why you should consider challenging social agreements that you don't align with. About Connor Beaton: After apprenticing with that pupil of Carl Jung, I developed an innovative approach to healing the Shadow – the part of our psyche that causes us to self-sabotage – by drawing from experiential and training-based methodologies like Jungian psychology, somatic therapy, along with transformative breathwork and meditative practices. I've now been working for almost a decade as a NY-based coach, teacher, and speaker to help men (and women) from all over the world walk through their darkness and grow in the realms of mental clarity, relational communication, actualizing their potential and sexual intimacy. I have a no-BS attitude coupled with a compassionate understanding of our own human limitations. I've coached hundreds of men (and women) through private coaching, group work, workshops, retreats and masterminds. In 2014, I founded ManTalks, a community for men looking to expand and deepen their sense of self-awareness. This week’s conversation is an ode to old school, fundamental public market investing. My conversation is with IMC’s Connor Leonard, who spends most waking hours thinking and reading about markets. His mandate is to invest purely as if it was his own money, with no pressure to hug a benchmark, and no pressure to do much of anything other than earn strong long-term returns. The portfolio that results from this approach is highly concentrated and unique. Connor’s strategy is to sort companies into four categories based on their type of sustainable competitive advantage. As you’ll hear, the vast majority fall into the first category, which means they don’t have such an advantage and therefore should be largely set aside. We spend the majority of our conversation talking about the other three categories: 1) companies with a legacy moat, 2) companies with a re-investment moat, and 3) an interesting category Connor calls “capital light compounders,” which we explore in detail. When you step back and think about public markets, you realize how amazing it is that we can, from afar, buy an interest in so many companies around the world. A select few go on to deliver outstanding returns. This conversation highlights how hard that can be, but also how fun and ultimately rewarding. “In the real world, people don’t care about a piece of paper. They care about the results you can generate for them.” - Connor Grooms In this episode of Nat Chat I’m joined by Connor Grooms. Connor is a master of learning things quickly. When he moved to Medellin a couple years ago, he set out to learn Spanish in One Month, which he filmed and turned into a documentary which has nearly a million views on YouTube. He took what he learned from that endeavor and started a Spanish tutoring company called BaseLang, which combines the system he came up with and unlimited one on one tutoring with native speakers. He’s been entirely self taught for everything he’s working on, and now his company employs 6 people full time with him and over 100 freelancers. Connor is also pretty interesting because he dropped out of school almost as soon as he started. Once he landed his first design client he dropped out, moved to Asia, and hasn’t been living full time in the U.S. since. We covered a lot in this episode, including: How to learn languages and potentially other things extremely quickly. The importance of having deep friendships. How college can cost you numerous opportunities in life and business. How experimenting and having fun projects can start a successful business or product. https//bengreenfieldfitness.com/amplepodcast I recently had a chance to taste a new superfood meal replacement powder called "" (you can use code GREENFIELD for a big, fat 15% discount). It was so tasty, and such an interesting approach to the burgeoning world of dime-a-dozen meal replacement powders (it actually was the #1 food campaign of all time on IndieGoGo) that I decided to get the inventor on a podcast to ask him about it. His name is Connor Young.  Connor is a nutrition nerd, fitness freak and self-proclaimed biohacker, obsessed with optimizing the human body. He graduated with a degree in biology and while studying, he found passion for CrossFit, leading him to co-found Shackle Island CrossFit in Nashville, Tennessee. After selling Shackle Island and with continued interest in medicine, Connor joined Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Johnson & Johnson's surgery division. For two years, he advised surgeons on intra-operative device usage. After becoming jaded with the reactive nature of medicine, Connor left J&J to create a physical therapy start-up Koach, a platform that allowed PTs to more effectively engage patients in home exercises. This brought Connor to San Francisco, where he moved into an entrepreneurial “hacker house” with dozens others. Connor was exposed to how easy it was for his well-intentioned but busy housemates to eat unhealthily. After conducting nutrition and cooking classes for his housemates, Connor formulated Ample as a balanced meal for those looking for optimal nutrition who refuse to sacrifice health for convenience. His vision for Ample is to strive for perfect nutrition through a scientifically grounded formula made from real foods. Ample is pretty unique stuff, really. Here's the nutrition label: It comes in a 400 calorie version, and also a 600 calorie version, as shown below: And here's the macronutrient breakdown: During my discussion with Connor, you'll discover: -How Connor went from knowing how to cook only 3 things to become the inventor of a meal replacement powder...[10:35] -The actual macronutrient breakdown of 50-60% fat, 20-30% protein and 10% carbohydrate in Ample...[22:55] -How Connor figured out how to make Ample high-fat without actually having the fats oxidized...[25:27] -The best way to mix Ample to make it as thick as possible...[31:00] -The reasoning behind the carbohydrate, prebiotic, and fiber blend in Ample...[42:10] -Why Connor chose to add the particular sweeteners that are in Ample, while still keeping sugar content extremely low...[50:15] -Whether you need to be concerned about estrogens and plastics with the plastic bottle...[54:12] -How you can get a special version Ample if you are vegetarian or vegan or lactose-free...[56:30] -The fascinating studies that are being done on Ample...[60:00] -And much more... Connor Beaton is back on the show after roughly a year since the last time he was the guest when we talked about something controversial. Connor is the founder of Man Talks, a community designed around building better fathers, husbands, leaders – better men in general.  Connor is a self-proclaimed renaissance guy who likes a range of things from opera and yoga to construction and boxing. Today we talk about all the aspects of masculinity in today's society and how it affects men's personality, emotions, and relationships.    Some of the things we talked about are:  What causes the difficulty of guys to understand women (5:38). The Spartan Warrior's Goji Training where young boys train to become warriors, where half of the day was spent training for combat, and the other half studying finer arts, music, and dance, and how these are integrated into creating elite warriors (6:34). The definition of femininity and masculinity out of Osho's description of light and its opposite – darkness (11:07), and how these also represent life and death (13:05). How women see men and what it's like to be in the presence of a man who is very masculine (14:02), and what presence is like in the mind, the physical sense, and spiritually-wise (15:30). That what women want are not necessarily mind readers but proactive men who are in tune with women's needs without having to ask (23:18). The difference on how men connect physically vs. women connecting emotionally, how to bridge this gap, and examples to illustrate emotional connection (25:53). How Connor views the differences between genders, how people identify into the dichotomy, and how associating with the opposite pole of the spectrum causes friction (33:31). How masculinity was distorted by the ‘masculine' role models we have in society and media (37:42). His thoughts about toxic masculinity, generalization and, extremism; how to augment our world view through challenging existing beliefs, empathy and compassion; and how the lack of integration between masculinity and femininity causes vulnerability, shame, and guilt (39:00, 41:19). The association of masculinity with aggression and death, contrasting anger from aggression, the significance of emotional resiliency, acknowledging the importance of challenges, and the difference between challenge and competition (48:49). What's the most masculine thing for men to do to diffuse conflict in a relationship (54:35), and how the belief that boys and later – men, cannot be weak sabotages their emotions and relationships (55:59; 1:02:22). Distinguishing love from lust, the role empathy, compassion, communication, respect, and congruency plays in the distinction, and what is the key to a great relationship (1:04:05). His thoughts on casual sex and sex-too-soon, and the importance of self-awareness, transparency, honesty and setting expectations in these scenarios (1:11:10; 1:16:26). How sensitive men can connect to those who are less sensitive, which Connor expounds by using enlightenment as an analogy (1:20:35). The essence of masculinity and femininity as experiences which people can both experience and integrate into their lives (1:26:45). This episode felt more like a conversation rather than an interview. Truly an educating episode that ought to provide insights wherever in the gender spectrum one falls into.  To connect with Connor go to www.theintimatelifestyle.com/masculinityishealthy

Connor Coleman is the founder of Resiliency Lands, a progressive, conservation-minded land management and advisory group committed to promoting ecological and resource resiliency. Prior to starting Resiliency Lands, he held a variety of positions closely connected to the land, jobs that would be on the wish-list of anyone who loves adventure and the American West—wildland firefighter, cowboy, bison manager, and conservationist, just to name a few. Connor is currently based in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley, and he resides on a spectacular ranch just outside of Carbondale. • You may be surprised to learn that Connor was not born and raised in the West or on ranches. On the contrary, he grew up in Ohio, went to college in North Carolina, and after paying his dues in east coast conservation and earning two master’s degrees from Duke, he headed West to focus his energy on western landscapes. Thanks to an insatiable curiosity, a rock-solid work ethic, a service mindset, and a willingness to insert himself into new and uncomfortable situations, Connor has carved out a professional niche for himself in Colorado doing rewarding, exciting, and important work. • Connor’s education and unconventional career path can serve as a great blueprint for anyone who loves the American West and wants a life centered around land, conservation, and natural resources. When I was in my early twenties, I would’ve loved to meet a guy like Connor who could point me in the right direction. So in this episode, we talk in depth about his career and his ability to “put himself out there” to create exciting professional opportunities. We dig deep into his thoughts on conservation in the West, as well as issues related to forest fires throughout the country. Connor loves to read and learn, so he also has tons of great book and film recommendations. • We cover a ridiculous amount of information, so be sure to check out the episode notes for the full list of topics we discuss.
