This week I sit down for a mid-morning chat with Derek Henry, lead vocalist for the band Observe the 93rd. We talked about everything we could think about, and even had some background jams provided by PA based punk pop band Headways: https://linktr.ee/headwayspa Observe the 93rd was voted 2021 Best Alternative Rock Band and Derek received the award for Best Male Vocalist at the Central Pennsylvania Music Awards. Observe the 93rd is an alternative rock band from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. It's comprised of vocalist/guitarist Derek Henry and drummer Dylan Zepp. Their focus will always be "raw, authentic expression." The songs are guided by a feeling, an idea, an experience, failure, triumph, suffering, joy...any abstract internal entity that yearns to be externalized. Sometimes the expression of this is a means of reflection, sometimes a means of relief and survival, and other times merely an exploration of the mind or ideas. Observe has played shows with: Foxy Shazam, Fuel, Three Days Grace, Stone Temple Pilots, Seether, Puddle of Mudd, Otherwise, Flyleaf, Lacey Sturm, Cold, Sponge, Drowning Pool, Saliva, Joyous Wolf, From Ashes to New, P.O.D., Icon For Hire, Conquer Divide, The Funeral Portrait, Rivals.

Two weeks until the camp grounds open at Blue Ridge Rock Fest! I know you are excited, because I sure as hell am. So I hope you are ready! Today I bring you a band out of New Jersey playing day 3 of the festival. Ladies and Gentleman, Aurin! “Aurin is back with their new album “Serotonin” (released on 9/13/19 through TLG / INgrooves). “Serotonin” was produced by Grammy award nominated Mike Ferretti (Sevendust, Thank you Scientist, Saliva). The album debuted at #1 on Amazon Hard Rock Best Sellers, #10 in overall Rock, and has since had over 220,000 streams on Spotify. The first two singles “Pause Rewind Repeat” and “Brother” have been featured in publications such as AP magazine, and Loudwire. After their critically acclaimed 2014 release of record label debut album “Catharsis” on Pavement Entertainment / RED, the band hit the road, and has since shared the stage with several national acts such as : Art of Dying, Otep, Nonpoint, Icon For Hire, Gemini Syndrome, Ill Nino, Adrenaline Mob, Fit for Rivals, Smile Empty Soul, Members of Breaking Benjamin, 40 Below Summer, Tantric, Spineshank, & more! Their latest single “Brother”, is about dealing with the emotions that come along when a loved one ends their own life. The raw, emotional track was written by guitarist Andrew Wayne, whose brother took his own life in 2012. Aurin detail a powerful, first-person account of suicide in this song and music video. “It took me over five years to muster up the courage to actually write about it” says Wayne. “The video is a dedication to him and the city that he loved (New York City), where he lived and died. He was a prodigal artist with an uncanny ability to portray beauty. We decided to feature his artwork, not just for the “Serotonin” album cover, but throughout the rest of the album as well. This song is dedicated to him. It is dedicated not only to his memory, but to all the people that have been lost to such tragedy. ” The first single from Serotonin “Pause Rewind Repeat” has a strong message behind it regarding the times we are living in. “Political divides are tearing nations and their people apart. So many of us are too busy placing the blame or turning a blind eye, that we have forgotten the importance of being humanitarian. The song is intended to show that we need to be stronger in order to push through all of the pain and suffering in this world. We need to lift each other up in order to break through the barriers that have been placed between us.” – Sarah Anderson Wayne https://www.aurinband.com/ https://www.facebook.com/aurinband https://www.instagram.com/aurinband/ This episode is proudly brought to you by: Betterhelp : https://www.betterhelp.com/sipod for 10% off Mack Weldon: https://www.mackweldon.com/suckit Promo Code "SUCKIT" for 20% off! Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Icon For Hire over Zoom video! Despite their name, ICON FOR HIRE aren’t indebted to anyone but their fans. Since forming in 2007, the duo—singer Ariel Bloomer and guitarist Shawn Jump—have amassed a legion of followers who have connected with not only the band’s genre-bending sound, but also their honesty. That soul-baring spirit and realism is at the heart of everything Icon For Hire do, and it’s front and center on their latest Billboard-charting release, YOU CAN’T KILL US…Produced by Mike Green (Gwen Stefani, All Time Low) and funded by fans through Kickstarter on a campaign that raised $127, 200—making it one of the year’s highest-raising music campaigns—the self-released album marks a brand-new chapter for the band.Blending hard rock, hip-hop, electronica and pop into an anthemic swirl of both melody and muscle, You Can’t Kill Us isn’t only a modern sounding record—it’s awash in lyrical themes that tap into the times as well. Addiction, depression and self-worth are all topics Ariel addresses and these themes reverberate loudly in today’s tumultuous, judgment-first culture. After all, having survived the record label system and reemerged stronger than ever, Icon For Hire are living proof that you can take control of your life—and that’s perhaps the greatest success anyone can hope to accomplish. We want to hear from you! It is tough enough to be born into a cult and to not fit in with the people surrounding you outside the group, but sometimes you’re born into a family in a cult that is not particularly well liked in a congregation for whatever reason, and that adds an even heavier layer of isolation with nowhere to go. Throw in home schooling and a mother that teaches you not to trust people, and you have a recipe for destroying a young girl’s sense of self and belonging in the world. Cassandra has had to battle so much to find her place, people that care about her without the conditions of a cult, and she’s finding a life of her own now as she finds her own strength to knock down the walls that were built to keep her in. We'll look back and be happy that we kept ourselves alive. We'll honor where we came from, see what the hurt was for. But we don't let our past hold us hostage anymore. Cause we got more to give, more to live, more to be. More to who we are than our broken history. Like an army we all know it's not all better yet. But we hold on, stay strong, and never forget You can't, you can't kill us You can't, you can't kill us We've been lost, been to the bottom. Beaten up, torn and forgotten. Still we fight, we will survive. Can't kill the fire we feel inside. We've been burned, drained and depleted. Left alone, we're not defeated. Still we fight, we will survive. Can't kill the fire we feel inside.

If you are a new listener, please come back next week, it will be more normal then. It was the week after E3 and nothing incredibly tantalizing had happened and things get... weird, even by our dubious standards. When we were not talking about romphims, coolings fans, Baby Metal, Hellyeah, spider packing heat, or Icon For Hire (they're a band apparently) there was talk of video games and things relating to video games. We also reveal what the preferred platform for Destiny 2 will be for Something Wicked Studios, talk some about the .hack franchise, and reveal the biggest news that came out of E3 2017 that had nothing to do with E3 2017. Strap in, it's a weird one.YouTube: youtube.com/swstudiozEmail: wickedawesomecast@gmail.comWe also have a FaceBookSometimes we remember to post on Twitter

In episode 30 of the Underground Hour comes a band that I love very, very much and that's Icon For Hire. It's a band that combines rock, pop punk, alternative, nu metal, electronica, dance, synths all into one. You can have comparisons to Paramore but is also very different. This is my Top 10 list from my favorite band with a female lead and band with my favorite debut album.
