Our spiritual inheritance is a divine gift, but it does not make us immune to the enemy's schemes. Even the strongest believers can be tempted by bribes that sabotage their birthright—just as warned in Deuteronomy 16:19. In the realm of co-dependency, these bribes often come disguised as love—especially in the form of love-bombing, an overwhelming flood of flattery and affection that momentarily fills our need for validation. But when the illusion fades, we are left feeling empty, unworthy, and heartbroken. In today's episode of Conquering Codependency God's Way, we explore: How the story of Jacob & Esau reveals the dangers of trading our God-given inheritance for fleeting comforts. The enemy's tactics of deception and how they manifest in relationships and codependency. How God's love provides true resilience, shielding us from the counterfeit validations that lead to heartbreak. Practical steps to break free from the trap of love-bombing and embrace your identity in Christ. God's love is not a bribe—it is an inheritance! Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, everyone! I'm Hunter, your Bible reading coach, and today is January 11th, 2025. Our mission here is to journey through the entire Bible in a year, focusing on experiencing the boundless love and presence of Jesus. In today's session, we dive into some profound scriptures: Genesis chapters 27 and 28, Psalm 4, and Luke chapter 11. We'll explore the story of Jacob's deception, his journey and dream of the stairway to heaven, and Jesus' teachings on prayer, persistence, and the nature of God's love. We'll also reflect on Jesus' critique of the religious leaders of his time, emphasizing that God is not distant but is deeply loving and generous. Throughout our reading, we'll uncover the layers of these texts to see how they all point towards Jesus, the living word of God. So grab your Bible or simply listen along as we read and reflect together. Let's open our hearts to the presence of Jesus and start this day with a renewed sense of peace and purpose. TODAY'S DEVOTION: God's Transforming Presence Throughout today's readings, a powerful message emerges: God is actively transforming the hearts and lives of those who seek Him. We see it in Genesis with Jacob's transformative dream, a moment that marks a pivotal change in his journey and understanding of God. We witness it in Psalm 4, where David pours out his heart, seeking God's mercy and finding peace in His presence. And we see it most fully in the teachings of Jesus in Luke 11, where He calls us into a deeper relationship with God through prayer and steadfast faith. Jesus shows us that God's presence is not distant or indifferent. Rather, He is intimately involved in our lives, ready to bring about transformation. Jesus criticizes the religious leaders of His time for presenting a distorted image of God as a stern, unapproachable figure. Instead, He reveals a loving Father who desires to give good gifts to His children, including the Holy Spirit. This is a God who meets us in our brokenness, who invites us into His divine presence, and who transforms our lives from the inside out. God's transformative power is not just an abstract concept; it is a reality that we can experience daily. Jacob's dream in Genesis 28, with the stairway reaching to heaven and the Lord's promises, is a vivid reminder that God is with us, guiding us, and blessing us. Jacob responds by vowing to worship God, marking the holy place as Bethel, "House of God." Similarly, Jesus teaches us that through persistent, heartfelt prayer, we are drawn into closer communion with God, a relationship that continually shapes and renews us. He warns against hypocrisy and empty religious practice, urging us instead to cultivate inner righteousness and genuine faith. Jesus' power and his teachings remind us that God's kingdom is not a distant future reality, but a present and active force in our lives—a kingdom of peace, love, and hope. As citizens of this kingdom, let us internalize this transformative message and allow God's love to change us. Let us be filled with the Holy Spirit, who guides us in living out the very life of Christ. By walking in the light and truth of Jesus' teachings, we are set free from the burdens of our past, our regrets, and our failures. We are called into a new identity as beloved children of God, embraced by His grace and love. My prayer for you is that you open your heart to this transforming presence. Embrace the journey of being made new in Christ. Believe in the profound truth that God is with you, guiding you, blessing you. Just as Jacob set a stone to mark the place where he encountered God, may we mark our lives with moments of divine encounter and transformation, continually growing in faith and love. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters, and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. PSALM 40:1-5 1 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. 4 Blessed is the man who the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. 5 Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1 What do you think about the messiness of the Isaac - Rebekah, Jacob - Esau, Jacob - Laban, Rachel - Leah saga? Why does God continually seem to find people's lives to highlight which would make for a good Jerry Springer episode? Thinking about some of the messes in your life, how can you relate to the hope found in Psalm 40:1-5? 2 Review all of the deception found in Genesis 25-31. Among all this deception, who, if anyone, do you think felt a sense of belonging? Where have you found a place to belong? How can you relate to being viewed as "not Esau" or "not Rachel"? 3 "God can't bless who you pretend to be." What do you think about that statement? How have you learned the truth of that statement? 4 "Life is full of let-downs." What are the let-downs you've experienced which have hit you pretty hard? Describe one of your - "When morning came - there was Leah" type moments. 5 "Regardless of how big of a mess we make, God's good and gracious will shall be accomplished." How have you seen this to be true? When have you been amazed at what God does with the glorious mess you made? 6 Describe the encouragement you receive from what emerges when you overlay the hope in Psalm 40:1-5 on top of the three statements above.
The conclusion of the Jacob/Esau stories finishes our journey from Paul's day, through the intertestamental period, to the prophets, the monarchy, and the first encounter between Israel and Edom. What can this history teach us about Esau, his children, and Paul's words in Romans 9:10-13?

When you have three children, of course only one can be the first, and that one becomes to the others the measuring stick for all privileges, all fairness, and all comparisons. Now, in our family, our daughter is the oldest. The three kids would be getting along perfectly one day, and then suddenly the boys would learn about something their big sister got. Then I would hear the march of determined feet to my desk, and then those words, "How come she gets to...?" Then the rest would be whatever they were comparing. They would discuss whatever blessing she had gotten that they had not. Actually knowing that kind of question was coming helped me make better decisions. It could help you too. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Fatal Favoritism." Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Genesis 27:45. We're reading about Rebekah, the mother of two boys - Jacob and Esau. Those two boys are very much against each other at this point. The older, Esau, has a tremendous grudge and even an urge to kill his younger brother, Jacob. And now Rebekah says to her younger son, "When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I'll send word for you to come back." He's going to have to be sent many miles away. "Why should I lose both of you in one day?" Man! She says, "I'm losing both of my sons." She's sending Jacob away for his own safety; Esau wants to kill him. How did they get in this mess? Well, Jacob's Mom and he have tricked Father, Isaac, into giving Jacob Esau's blessing. How did this family end up with all this hatred and conflict, deceit between a husband and wife, and a mother who's physically losing one son and emotionally losing the other? The answer: the great splitter-upper. In Genesis 25 it says at the boys' early ages, "The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was a quiet man, staying among the tents. Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob." Did you get it? Here are two godly people who fell into the trap that divides parents from children, children from parents, employees and employers, spiritual leaders and the people they're trying to lead. It's the word partiality. It's the great splitter-upper. When my sons were asking, "How come she gets to...?" they were forcing me to take a partiality check. "Am I showing favoritism here?" It inevitably leads to conflict, bitterness, getting even, and loss of respect for the person who's been partial. If you're a parent, you just can't afford to choose between your children. If you're a son or a daughter, you can't afford to pick one parent to be close to and the other one to kind of freeze out or ignore. In spiritual leadership you can't afford to get close to one person over another. If people work for you, you've got to treat them the same. There's a natural attraction - a natural compatibility - sometimes between one or the other, but it can never be the basis for relationships. Rebekah lost both the insider and the outsider in her love game. You'll lose too if you fall into the favoritism trap. It's just way too expensive! Partiality? It's the great splitter-upper.

Stephen Davey probes the depths of God's sovereignty in election. Though a complex topic, a biblical understanding of this doctrine elevates our worship, humbles our hearts, and highlights God's mercy. Using examples from Abraham, Jacob/Esau, and Pharaoh, Stephen shows that God's choices are not based on fairness but on His sovereign will. Genesis 33And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two female servants. And he put the servants with their children in front, then Leah with her children, and Rachel and Joseph last of all. He himself went on before them, bowing himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. But Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. And when Esau lifted up his eyes and saw the women and children, he said, “Who are these with you?” Jacob said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.” Then the servants drew near, they and their children, and bowed down. Leah likewise and her children drew near and bowed down. And last Joseph and Rachel drew near, and they bowed down. Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company that I met?” Jacob answered, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.” But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.” Jacob said, “No, please, if I have found favor in your sight, then accept my present from my hand. For I have seen your face, which is like seeing the face of God, and you have accepted me. Please accept my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” Thus he urged him, and he took it.Then Esau said, “Let us journey on our way, and I will go ahead of you.” But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are frail, and that the nursing flocks and herds are a care to me. If they are driven hard for one day, all the flocks will die. Let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will lead on slowly, at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.”So Esau said, “Let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.” So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. But Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built himself a house and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. And Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, on his way from Paddan-aram, and he camped before the city. And from the sons of Hamor, Shechem's father, he bought for a hundred pieces of money the piece of land on which he had pitched his tent. There he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel. The story of the Bible is not the story of the well to do & the put together. It's the story of the blessing of God again & again finding the undeserving. That's what we see in the story of Jacob & Esau & the unfailing will of God.
Miraculous Births in the Bible: - Isaac (Genesis 11:30) - Jacob & Esau. (Gen. 25:21) - Joseph (Gen. 29:31) - Samson (Judges 13:2) - Samuel (1 Samuel 1:5) - John the Baptist (Luke 1:7) Joseph obeyed the word from God. Mary received and believed the word from God.
The strife between Jacob and Esau robbed them of their ability to have a good relationship. Strife is the great separator in families.

The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry take a deep look at the Jacob-Esau conflict that is the basis for Obadiah's message – the birthright and the blessing. Because of this conflict, not only did Obadiah indict the Edomites for abusing their “cousins,” the Israelites, but this same conflict fuels the ongoing Middle East conflict between Israel and the Islamic Arab nations.Visit HighBeam Ministry, The Truth BaristaCheck out the Frothy Thoughts Blog!Check out The Truth Barista Books!

There is a well-known theory amongst the Israelite Community that Esau is the progenitor of the "White Race." I am one of those who do not ascribe to this theory and with this message I have tried to dispel this "Theory" by using the scriptures. "Race" as we know it today is a fairly new concept, it was only invented around the 1500s before that people were known by their "Nation." the Bible says that two nations were in the womb of Rebecca: "The LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated;" "Genesis 25:22-28 Two different manner of people, two people will be separate, two biological brothers would be different. It's funny because those who have this theory, never acknowledge the fact that Esau and Jacob are biological brothers. Having the same Mother and the same father. Therefore based on this same logic and idea of "Race" today these two people undoubtedly by all accounts would be of the same race, even if they had different skin color. Nonetheless, these two were not different because of their "Race" but because of their identity, their ideals, and principles. Like Cain and Able one followed after God and the other after his own ideals: “At that time Isaac sent his younger son Jacob to the house of Shem and Eber, and he learned the instructions of the Lord, and Jacob remained in the house of Shem and Eber for thirty-two years, and Esau his brother did not go, for he was not willing to go, and he remained in his father's house in the land of Canaan.” Jasher 28:18 Let he who has and ear hear what thus saith the lord. Calvinist(Reformed Theology) say God said He hated Esau and meant it, so Calvinist teach God predestines/elects people prior to birth to heaven or hell, with no possibility of change here on earth. All other denominations say God said He hated Esau, but He didn't mean it, He preferred Jacob to Esau which is still a lie because God did not say He hated Esau, although God did prefer Jacob to serve as leader of Israel. The non-Calvinist are teaching a serious lie of blasphemy of God because God never said He hated Esau/Edom or anyone else prior to their birth. The non-Calvinist are teaching that God said it (He hated Esau) but He didn't mean it, He just preferred Jacob. God Loved Esau/Edom, and Calvinism(Reformed Theology) is a lie of the devil! God has never had anyone born to die and be predestined to go to heaven or hell prior to their birth. We must each choose to accept or reject God's love into our hearts. Also, God did not say He hated Esau/Edom in Malachi 1:1-3 and I show that clearly in today's program. The Apostle Paul explained it in Romans 9:12-14. and Jesus states in Matthew 25:41 that the lake of fire was created only for the devil and his angels! We must each make the personal choice to accept God's Love into our hearts or reject His Love and choose hell, 2 Thessalonians 2:10, "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved." God's Word is a burden in the sense that if what He's saying is true, then everything changes. The burden of Malachi is communicating the unfailing love of God to His people. Make no mistake - it all starts with God (Detu. 7:6-8). God’s faithful love was declared ("I have loved you"), His love was doubted ("How have you loved us?"), and now His love is demonstrated through the nation of Israel and particularly through Edom ("Is not Jacob Esau's brother?") Malachi shows us a God whose goodness will make us tremble with reverent fear (1:6 & 14, 2:5, 3:5).

Many times in life we sell out on things due to pressure missing out on what God has for us and getting consequences instead. Genesis 25:29-34 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/fighttothefinish-1979/support
In this dramatic story of a sibling rivalry, we see deceitfulness, hatred, and brokenness between two brothers and a family. However, in the midst of all of this despair, God shows His mercy and love through Esau as he forgives his brother Jacob and they reconcile this relationship. Who has hurt you today? What steps is God leading you to in forgiving them as He forgave you?
What did God mean when he said, -Jacob I have loved and Esau I have hated.-- There seems to be a great contrast between Esau who sold his birthright and Jacob who tricked his older brother into such a thing. How is it that God continues the line of salvation through such strange and broken people- This message provides insight into the answers to these questions.
Our Vision is clear, simple, and unique. Our vision is Jesus in you. Our vision is for the people of God to have a faith that holds them. The kind of faith that vanquishes doubt, verifies identity, and voraciously contends for inner peace. A faith that removes the past, clarifies the present, and breathes life into the future. Our vision is the Kingdom of God built within the people of this obscure, yet mighty generation. A kingdom so great that its purpose destroys the common lack of self worth. A kingdom that sharpens the eyes, tenses the muscles, and readies itself for the battle against darkness. A Kingdom that brings purpose and healing to those who have failed more than succeeded, who are sinners more than saints, and who have known more pain than pleasure. Our vision is to challenge the weak and unproductive church of our day. To step beyond those who are religiously immature and search out those who for their love for Christ cannot be offended. Our hope is to raise warriors instead of those who think God only exists to keep bad things from happening. To raise those who know that following Christ means suffering loss yet gaining all things. Our vision is clear, simple, and unique…. It is Christ in you, the hope of glory. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/erik-yarbrough/message

Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference: 0:00 Introduction 1. 0:15 How do the Jehovah's Witnesses mistranslate and misuse John 1:1 in their "New World Translation"? 2. 10:22 What does Matthew 24: 34 mean? What is the "all these things" Jesus speaks of? Would the original audience/early church have thought He was referring to the second and final coming? 3. 20:54 What does Matthew 26: 46 mean? 4. 22:08 Can you explain the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25:1? It cannot possibly mean that half the Church fails to enter in...or does it? 5. 26:18 I've heard people support abortion using Numbers 5, specifically v. 27. What is your take on that? 6. 30:43 The OT often calls the Old Covenant an eternal or everlasting covenant. If it is eternal and everlasting, how can there be a New Covenant? 7. 32:22 If I don't read the Bible and pray every day, I feel a huge amount of guilt - like I've sinned and am not even worthy to be a Christian. Is this kind of guilty conscience or conviction healthy, or not? 8. 34:57 In Mark 7: 27-28, do you think that this passage is a good way to highlight that the eucharist is specifically spiritual and not physical flesh, or do you think it's not correlated enough? 9. 36:26 What is the "rod" in Proverbs 13: 24? Is it a method of corporal punishment, or does it refer to a rod of truth with which we hold our children/households accountable to? 10. 39:52 As a struggling Calvinist, could you explain the apparent favoritism of God throughout the Bible and why He "chooses" some over others? (ex. Jacob/Esau, Abraham, Prophets, and Moses.) 11. 43:01 In Genesis 9, Noah seems to curse Canaan for the actions of his father, Ham. Do you think Noah cursed Canaan, or is Moses emphasizing Canaan on purpose? 12. 44:26 How do you respond to the claim that Jesus came to dismantle systems of oppression? though He did dismantle "systems" like legalism, it also seems to diminish the Gospel when it becomes the focus. 13. 45:55 My wife and I are wondering if the parable of the sower (Luke 8:4-15) clarifies Hebrews 6:4-6...We both believe salvation is eternal. Thoughts? 14. 49:32 I don't feel the witness of the Holy Spirit or a love for God. I trust Christ to save me, but I'm not seeing fruit. Does the inward work of God take longer for some people? 15. 52:19 Is "the anointing" a real thing, or is it just another word for the Holy Spirit? And can we get an anointing today? Any verses to support your argument? 16. 53:54 How do we reconcile forgiveness for our sins by His work on the cross with being examined on Judgment Day? If we sin and receive forgiveness, will that be brought up again when we stand before God? 17. 57:03 Would you ever recommend The Message Bible? Any possible problems you see with it? 18. 58:53 Do you think some people focus too much on extravagant mission trips or campaigns instead of evangelizing by acting good in the world? 19. 1:02:13 In 1 Corinthians 6: 12 & 1 Corinthians 10: 22, Paul says all things are lawful. I know he isn't talking about sinful things, but is he talking about the law? I need some clarification. Thanks! 20. 1:06:38 I've heard some churches teach the "holy kiss" (1 Corinthians 16: 20) as a commandment. I'm curious about your thoughts on the matter.
