A federal judge on Tuesday ruled on the City of St. Louis’ motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a former St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter. The decision went mostly in the reporter’s favor and allows the lawsuit to proceed. Now based in Washington state, journalist Mike Faulk filed the suit following a September 2017 protest related to the acquittal of former police officer Jason Stockley. Faulk was reporting on the protest when he alleges police officers unlawfully assaulted and arrested him. St. Louis Public Radio’s Jeremy D. Goodwin goes behind the headlines in this segment to talk with Faulk about where things stand.
St. Louis Alderman Terry Kennedy is the latest guest on Politically Speaking, where he spoke with St. Louis Public Radio’s Jason Rosenbaum and Rachel Lippmann about his 30-year tenure on the Board of Aldermen. Kennedy represents the 18th Ward, which takes in nine neighborhoods in central and north St. Louis — including the Central West End, Vandeventer and JeffVanderLou neighborhoods. He’s planning to resign in early January to become clerk of the Board of Aldermen. A second generation alderman, Kennedy joined the board in 1989. He succeeded his father, Sam Kennedy, who served on the board for 21 years. During his time in office, Kennedy helped create the North Sarah development — a state, federal and private partnership that brought about new housing in his ward. Kennedy was also the key backer of a Civilian Oversight Board for the St. Louis Police Department. That idea languished for years, until aldermen ended up passing legislation after Michael Brown’s shooting death in Ferguson. After the Jason Stockley protests, aldermen ended up giving that board subpoena power.
Three St. Louis cops eat their own and will hopefully face justice for it. Don't hold your breath, though. What's in the News with stories on cryptocurrency to pay taxes, police abuse, legal kidnapping twice, government idiocy, and government murdering children. Plus, and Ask ME Anything segment where I answer questions on a write-in campaign for me for office, my diet, what does it mean when I say "keep striking the root," and voting on referendums. This episode is brought to you by ZenCash, now known as Horizen, a cryptocurrency that infuses privacy, anonymity, and security, done right. Also, brought to you by SmartCash, an easy to use, fast, and secure cryptocurrency that supports everyday use for everyday transactions. WHAT'S RUSTLING MY JIMMIES First, a quick update on a story we covered on this show quite extensively. Former Dallas Police officer Amber Guyger, who shot and killed Botham Jean in his own apartment after she mistook his apartment for hers, has been indicted by a grand jury for manslaughter. And, in a disturbing case of eating their own, three St. Louis police officers have been indicted on federal charges and suspended without pay for beating the shit out of one of their own undercover officers. Dustin Boone, Bailey Colletta, Randy Hays, and Christopher Myers were indicted in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Charges include suspicion of lying to the FBI and the use of excessive force related to the assault of an undercover St. Louis police officer during a 2017 protest following the Jason Stockley court ruling. WHAT'S IN THE NEWS In cryptocurrency news, Ohio is the first state to accept bitcoin for paying business taxes. It's just for businesses right now, but it's a start. In police abuse news. a Facebook video posted first to LiveLeak has gone viral after it was posted on social media. The video shows a Black middle school student being violently assaulted by two White school resource officers in what appears to be an unprovoked attack. In legal kidnapping news, a Georgia woman, Dashe Fincher, is suing after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation found that the blue substance in her car that led to her spending three months in jail was not methamphetamine — it was cotton candy. Another story of legal kidnapping follows a woman named Precious Jones. She was given a ticket for going 120 MPH in Missouri. She missed her court date in August of 2017 because, she said, "It slipped her mind." In government idiocy news, a couple was forced to prove that New Mexico is a state while applying for a marriage license in the nation's capital. In government murdering children news, officials in Afghanistan's Helmand province and international media are reporting at least 30 civilians, including 16 children, were killed in the latest US air strike targeting Taliban militants. ASK ME ANYTHING It's been a bit since I've done an Ask Me Anything segment, so I figured it was a good time to do so. Remember, if you have a question for me, you can ask it in the posts I put in the Pax Libertas Productions Podcast Fans Facebook group or by emailing ama@thelavaflow.com. If you're a Patron, your questions are always moved to the top of the pile for me to answer, and you can ask your question either in the Patreon website or in the Super Secret LAVA Flow Supporters Facebook group. I have a pretty large queue of questions, so I won't be able to get to them all this week. But, as always, I promise I will eventually get to your question!
St. Louis Public Radio reporter Ashley Lisenby goes behind the headlines on this week's news concerning the assault of an undercover officer during protests related to the Jason Stockley court ruling in 2017.

Kevin looks back on the one-year anniversary of the Jason Stockley verdict.
Tina and Jeremy suspend their general jackassery (at least for a little while) for a very special episode of WYFU. On the evening of Sept. 17th, 2017 St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Mike Faulk was arrested while attempting to cover protests in the wake of the Jason Stockley verdict. Mike joins the show to describe his treatment that evening at the hands of STLMPD and how the events of that evening lead to his eventual move to Yakima, WA and his new career in stand-up comedy. He also talks to Tina and Jeremy about his experiences working at a Mexican restaurant while in college and concludes with an extremely intelligent commentary on the whole experience. Plus! Tina's going to Six Flags and creating Jeremy's new dating profile (with help from listeners). We get e-mail and (believe it or not) sales on meat!!
On this edition of the Politically Speaking podcast, St. Louis Public Radio's Jason Rosenbaum takes a closer look at how young African-American politicians are making an impact after a judge found former St. Louis Police officer Jason Stockley not guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Anthony Lamar Smith. It's a topic Rosenbaum explored in a feature that was published last week. St. Louis' black elected officials under the age of 40 are seeking policy changes in St. Louis and the Missouri General Assembly that would change how police interact with African-Americans. They’ve also joined people in the streets to protest Stockley’s acquittal.

Corrections & clarifications: In our reporting on the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement's march in Gothenburg last week, we were ignorant of some pretty important details. Namely, the fact that they specifically chose to march on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur and that their originally proposed march route was chosen to pass by a synagogue, a clear act of intimidation, if not staging for an outright attack. Anti-Semitism is growing along with right-wing nationalism, and the targeting of Jewish sites and symbols is something anarchists should not ignore—not in the least because of the rich history of Jewish anarchism and anti-fascism! This week we have a ton of headlines about rebellion and cooperation, resistance and mutual aid, from all over the world. Protests in St. Louis continue into their second week after the not guilty verdict for a white cop who viciously murdered Anthony Lamar Smith, a young black father. We weigh in on the chatter about whether the NFL #TakeAKnee protests are about white supremacy or the first amendment. Meanwhile, the so-called “free speech week” hosted by far-right students in Berkeley has utterly failed. Just a couple weekends ago in Belleville, Illinois, every single player on a football team of youngsters—eight years old and under—took a knee during the national anthem. The coach, Orlando Goodin, said his kids knew all about why people were protesting in the streets of St. Louis over the acquittal of former police officer Jason Stockley. He saw a teaching opportunity—and explained Colin Kaepernick's decision to kneel during the national anthem. The kids asked if they could do the same. So, sure enough, when the national anthem played, these third graders immediately took a knee, their backs turned away from the flag. There's a line from the old musical South Pacific that says, “You've got to be carefully taught.” You've got to be carefully taught to hate. Coach Goodin chose to teach these kids to despise their flag. You've also got to be carefully taught to love, taught to be grateful. No: Not a one of us thinks this country is perfect. But there's a lot to be thankful for. That's the lesson we all ought to be teaching right now.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this episode, Dr. Vince Bantu discussed Anthony Lamar Smith, Jason Stockley and St. Louis.
This week we speak with two folks who've been active on the street of St. Louis since white ex-cop Jason Stockley was let off for the murder of black father Anthony Lamar Smith. We also remember Scout Schultz, a 21-year-old queer student organizer killed on Saturday by Georgia Tech police. There's lots of reports from anti-fascist actions, with a particularly woop-worthy one from the Juggalo March this past weekend in Washington, D.C. We mention Submedia's excellent show Trouble, which has an upcoming episode this month on counter-insurgency. They do great work, so throw them some taco money while they are fundraising this month. From Submedia: “After years of suffering the Stimulator's taco farts in silence, we'd reached our limits. Plus, we wanted to shift gears and embark on an ambitious new project – a monthly documentary series called Trouble, intended to be screened collectively as a tool to help spark critical conversations around local organizing. So when we pitched the idea to Stim and he refused to go along with this new direction, we decided he had to go. Well… turns out we fucked up. It's not that we regret launching Trouble, or have any plans to stop making new episodes. Far from it. We've received tons of positive feedback on the project, and are stoked to see trouble-makers have started dozens of screening collectives in cities across the world. What we didn't realize was exactly how much work goes into producing a 30 minute interview-driven documentary every month, and how little time that would leave us for our other projects. So, suffice to say… we've been reconsidering our decision for some time now. But the straw that finally broke the camel's back was when alt-right shitlords targeted us last month with a mass snitching campaign, and successfully got Paypal to cancel our account – wiping out, in the push of a button, a monthly sustainer base that had taken us ten years to build up. The time has come to #BringBackStim and unleash him full-force on these fucks. We want to give him a new show – a weekly digital pulpit where he can expose and ruthlessly antagonize far-right personalities, while also covering topical news segments from an anarchist lens. But in order to do that, we need to grow our collective so that we can handle the increased workload. And in order to do that, we need your support.” If you're near Vancouver, BC, there's a building materials supply drive going on until October to support the Secwepemc people's tiny homes blockade of the proposed Kinder Morgan TransMountain tar sands pipeline. The Devil's Advocate Podcast is an opinion talk show, and is the attempt of a few friends to have a reasonable conversation about current events on a weekly basis. It is littered with anecdotal comedy (well, hopefully...), and is the brain child of Brandon Condict. TDAP is hosted by Brandon Condict, Mitchell Hernandez, and Frank Everhart, and is produced and edited by Frank Everhart and Brandon Condict. "TDAP is what happens when a few "normal" people sit down and discuss the week's top stories with a rational and somewhat entertaining conversation. The goal of TDAP is to provide a forum for the listener to hear multiple perspectives on a myriad of topics, instead of the same one sided debates that we commonly get from news and media organizations."
