On November 11, 1620, forty-one men aboard the ship the Mayflower signed a document of great importance. With their signatures they vowed to create fair and just laws and to work together for the good of the Plymouth colony. This document, the Mayflower Compact, was the first to outline self-governance in the so called “New World” and it would go on to serve as a foundation for both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. Our government was practically built upon the Mayflower Compact signed by those men. But not all of them would uphold the vows they made that day. One in particular, John Billington, would go so far against them as to become the first convicted murderer in American history. In the words of Governor William Bradford “He is a knave, and so will live and die.” But it wasn't just John Sr., his whole family wreaked havoc on the colony, prompting Bradford to call them “one of the profanest families amongst them.” Join me this week to learn more about John Billington, the murderer on the Mayflower.Support the show! Join the PatreonBuy Me a CoffeeVenmo @Shea-LaFountaineSources: "History of Plimoth Plantation" by William Bradford (1630)"Mourt's Relation: A Journal of the Pilgrims at Plymouth" by Edward Winslow (1622)Mayflower 400 "The Mayflower Story"New England Historical Society "John Billington Gets Lost"History.com "Who Was the First Convicted Murderer in America"The Mayflower Society "The Billington Family"Mayflower 400 "America's first murderer was executed for killing fellow Plymouth settler"Wikipedia "John Billington"Shoot me a message! When one finds out that one is a direct descendent of the first person executed for murder in Colonial America, one has to share the story (it's me, I am one). My 11th Great Grandpa John Billington journey on the Mayflower and signed the Mayflower Compact, but he was not a Puritan, and 10 years later, he was hanged for the murder of a man named Newcomen based on very sketchy evidence (but I still think he did it).The Into & Outro Music is Auoustic Guitar Meoldy Fingerstyle #14 by Garuda1982The Transition Music is Coastal Mandolin by mooncusserAs always, a very special thanks to Mountain Up Cap Company for its continued help to spread the word about the podcast on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/MountainUpCapCompany Climb to Glory! For more information about the podcast visit: ·       The GoA website: https://www.ghostsofarlingtonpodcast.com    ·       Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ghostsofarlingtonpodcast·       Twitter: https://twitter.com/ArlingtonGhosts·       Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ghostsofarlington/

The prophecy of Zechariah 6 is a prophecy concerning future events.  The man who is the Branch is seen as both king and priest in his kingdom, with the holy temple being rebuilt.  Most interestingly the chapter opens with two “mountain” powers seemingly to the north and south of Jerusalem in the context of the chapter.  We are not left to wonder at these northern and southern powers as this prophecy fits hand in glove with the latter-day King of the North and King of the South in Daniel 11:40-45 and the northern and southern alliances in Ezekiel 38.  This is John Billington with you this week.

This week the pope as part of his Latin American tour was in communist Cuba this week. The pope met with the current leader Raul Castro and his brother and past leader Fidel Castro, he also met with and blessed the Venuzvalen leader Hugo Chavez, a vicious anti semite. Some may wonder at the willingness of the Roman Catholic church to rub shoulders with these leaders and these states, the truth is however that the history of her political relationships shows what kind of system she is. Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News, this is John Billington joining you this week. Well it's another week with Israel at the center of the news headlines with the breakdown of the peace talks. It never ceases to be amazing how a nation of only about 7 million people, which is probably not a whole lot more than the greater Toronto area (For those outside of Canada, Toronto is Canada's largest city!) can continually draw news headlines across the world on a daily basis. Having said that when you come to scripture it is to be expected, the Lord through the prophet Zachariah tells us that "Jerusalem will be a burdensome stone for all people." I think Obama probably curses the land every day as he continually makes a fool of himself trying to be the one who brings peace to the region, although so has every other US president in my lifetime. According to the State Department they said "We have determined that a moratorium extension will not at this time provide the best basis for resuming direct negotiations," which unless you have been hiding in a cave for the last few years will realize what a admonition of complete policy failure that is.
