This is our 200th show anniversary and we couldn't do anything more special than this. It is happening again! A McBryde sister is being denied an opportunity she rightfully earned. Jamilah McBryde, the oldest of the three McBryde Sisters who wrestle, is the reigning 143lb Women's Freestyle NAIA National Champion. With that amazing accomplishment comes the opportunity to compete for a spot on the US Women's Olympic Wrestling team. If allowed to attend the Olympic Qualifiers, Jamilah could be the first woman in the world to compete as a wrestler at the Olympic level in hijab. However, Jamilah is being denied the right to compete, and a McBryde sister is once again being robbed of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - one that she fairly earned. I will have Jamilah her father and hopefully a UWW spokesperson on the show (I wouldn't hold your breath) If you want to help sign the petition below. If your as mad as me you can write everyone on Email list below https://www.change.org/p/urge-usa-wre... Please share this petition far and wide. Share it with friends and family. It's another special episode of Short Time, this time with the audio from the webinar hosted on Tuesday, November 7 from the Baskerville Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah called “Grappling with Elimination. Hosted by the Baskerville Institute, a beacon for thought leadership and dialogue, this discussion titled "Grappling with Elimination" delves into the intense struggle faced by the wrestling community in 2013 when the sport was on the brink of Olympic exclusion. The panel features Nenad Lalovic, the President of United World Wrestling and an influential member of the International Olympic Committee. Under his leadership, UWW has played a crucial role in not only governing the sport but also in its expansion and the retention of its Olympic status. Joining him is Andrew F. Barth, known for his leadership beyond the mat as the retired chairman of Capital Guardian Trust Company and a trustee at Columbia University. Barth's passion for wrestling is evident through his founding of the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club and his pivotal role in the Committee to Preserve Wrestling, which was instrumental in the fight to keep wrestling in the Olympics. The episode also highlights the achievements of Adeline Gray, whose record-breaking career has not only set new standards in wrestling but has also been a testament to the sport's enduring legacy and appeal. Her perspective as the most decorated female wrestler in U.S. history adds a profound depth to the conversation on wrestling's Olympic journey. It's SHORT TIME SHOTS … a quick look at the day's top wrestling stories. Here's the good stuff for Friday, October 27.In the U23 World Championships in Tirana, Albania, Kennedy Blades and Audrey Jimenez from the United States earned silver medals in women's freestyle wrestling. Blades dominated her initial matches but lost 9-2 in the finals against UWW's Reetika in the 76 kg category. Jimenez, competing in the 50 kg category, withdrew from her finals match due to injury but still secured a silver medal. Amit Elor, another U.S. wrestler, advanced to the finals in the 72 kg category, pinning her first two opponents. She will face Jyoti Berwal in the finals, aiming for another U23 championship. Meanwhile, Macey Kilty will compete for a bronze medal in the 65 kg category after a strong start but a narrow 5-4 loss in the semifinals against Irina Ringaci. Xochitl Mota-Pettis is also in the hunt for a bronze medal in the 57 kg category, thanks to her first-round opponent advancing to the finals. The U.S. Greco-Roman team will begin their competition on Friday, featuring wrestlers like Phillip Moomey and Robert Perez III.Carter Starocci has announced his return to Penn State for the 2023-24 wrestling season, aiming to become the Nittany Lions' first four-time NCAA champion. Starocci, who recently won his third NCAA title at 174 pounds, also hinted at a potential Olympic run in the 2024 Summer Games. He has the nation's longest active winning streak with 52 straight bouts and is Penn State's sixth three-time champion. The University of Oklahoma announced that its wrestling program will remain in the Big 12 Conference as an affiliate member, even as the university transitions to the Southeastern Conference in 2024. The decision followed a vote by the Big 12's governance group, which includes university presidents and athletic directors. Oklahoma's wrestling program has a storied history, with seven national championships and 24 conference titles, including three in the Big 12 era. Starting July 1, 2024, the Big 12 wrestling membership will feature legacy programs like Iowa State and Oklahoma State, as well as affiliate programs such as Air Force and Missouri. Arizona State will also join as a newcomer in 2024. Iowa wrestling is gearing up for its season debut on November 4 against California Baptist, amid a turbulent offseason and pending NCAA decisions on sports-wagering penalties. Hawkeye coach Tom Brands praised the NCAA for its deliberative approach and emphasized that the athletes facing suspensions have been accountable. The vote on sports-wagering penalties is set for November 8, and Brands is hopeful for a decision that "fits the crime." Abe Assad and Nelson Brands are currently facing NCAA suspensions related to sports gambling and are likely to miss the season's first dual. Both athletes have criticized the NCAA and are awaiting the Division I Council's vote. While other Iowa wrestlers are also believed to be facing suspensions, Assad and Nelson Brands are the only ones to have spoken publicly about the issue. The National Wrestling Coaches Association has released its NCAA Women's Wrestling Preseason Coaches' Poll, with defending national champion North Central College leading the pack. North Central tops the preseason rankings for the second consecutive year, boasting 128 points and 13 ranked individuals, including seven who are ranked No. 1. They are followed by 2022 runner-up King University, which has 67 points and 10 ranked individuals. McKendree is in third place with 60 points and nine ranked wrestlers, while Colorado Mesa is fourth with 51 points and eight ranked individuals. Sacred Heart and Gannon round out the top six, with 29 and undisclosed points respectively, each having four ranked individuals. East Stroudsburg, Lock Haven University, and the University of Iowa are also in the top 10, along with Adrian College. - Menlo College leads the NAIA Women's Wrestling Preseason Top 20, followed by Life University, Grand View, William Penn, and Providence to kick off the 2023-24 women's wrestling season. Reigning national champion Southern Oregon starts the new season ranked sixth. The rankings were determined by a panel of head coaches from each of the five conferences, using a point system based on individual rankings in each weight class. To hear more about the NAIA women's division, check out the latest Short Time Wrestling Podcast, which has the full media day from the Kansas Intercollegiate Athletics Conference. The full breakdown of the day's wrestling news can be delivered to your inbox daily, courtesy of Mat Talk Online's Daily Wrestling Newsletter, delivered by Resilite. *) The United Nations appeals for $1B aid for Türkiye The United Nations has launched an appeal for 1 billion dollars to help victims in Türkiye of last week's devastating earthquakes that killed thousands of people and left millions more in desperate need of aid. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement that the funds would provide humanitarian relief for three months to 5.2 million people. He said the money would "allow aid organizations to rapidly scale up vital support," including in the areas of food security, protection, education, water and shelter. *) Türkiye quakes deadliest natural disaster on alliance territory: NATO chief The NATO chief has said that last week's deadly earthquakes in southeastern Türkiye were "the deadliest natural disaster on alliance territory since the foundation of" the security alliance. In a joint press conference on Thursday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg's visit is meant to show the alliance's solidarity with Türkiye after deadly quakes. Cavusoglu said the NATO Council has also decided to send residential containers and tents that are suitable for winter conditions. *) Türkiye tightens noose around building contractors over 'earthquake crimes' Turkish authorities have detained more contractors and others allegedly responsible for poorly constructed buildings that collapsed and caused heavy mass casualties in last week's earthquakes. Three people were detained in Türkiye's southeastern Kahramanmaras province, which was the epicentre of two powerful earthquakes. Another five contractors were detained in Istanbul under the coordination of the Kahramanmaras Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. *) Boy among three survivors pulled alive 260 hours after Türkiye quakes Eleven days into the quake, rescuers have pulled a 12-year-old boy and two men out of the rubble. The rescues came more than 260 hours after the earthquakes that have so far left nearly 44,000 people dead in Türkiye and neighbouring Syria. The boy was rescued from the rubble of a building in the central Antakya city of Hatay province at the 260th hour following the first earthquake that hit Türkiye. Two more people were pulled alive from the rubble in the same province but such rescues have become increasingly rare. *) World wrestling body launches campaign for earthquake victims in Türkiye, Syria United World Wrestling has kicked off a campaign to raise money for the earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria. "United World Wrestling has set up a donation drive to support relief efforts for those impacted by the earthquakes," the UWW said in a statement. It added that people can donate via PayPal or a bank account.

It's a solemn edition of the Intentional Foul this week as I'm grieving the unexpected and early loss of the UW-Whitewater football team in the first round of the playoffs. Otherwise, all rose petals and gummy bears as both the Packers and Bears continue to lose...GB to the Titans (looked awful) and Chicago to the Falcons (game-ending INT by Fields). Season is over for the Packers at this point. The Bears can continue showing promise. Other week 11 results and week 12 previews. Dan says the Badgers/Cornhuskers game could be the worst football game he's ever seen...1-point Wisconsin win makes Bucky bowl eligible. Battle for the Axe this week. The Bucks continue to play well and have put Laddergate behind them. A Portis/Nworra update as well. College hoops, both Marquette and Wisconsin are playing in holiday tournaments. Our high school hoops season has started and I'll cap the UWW football experience. All that and more coming up just shy of 90 minutes on this episode. Tell your friends.
This week is a special one. TCA brings you a rare exclusive interview with wrestling star Tessa Blanchard talking about her upcoming debut with UWW and much more. Then we are joined by UWW host Shaul Guerrero talking about her career and all things UWW. We then break down all the news and rumors of the week. We also give our predictions for Full Gear tonight
Two embarrassing performances by the Bears and Packers as we kick off another edition of the Intentional Foul this week. Chicago's challenges continue while Green Bay could be in some trouble. Week 6 results (weird) and week 7 previews (not good). The Badgers lose again and the program also could be in trouble (i.e. offense ineffectiveness, players entering transfer portal). Baseball playoffs...nobody to root for in the AL now, while the NL matchup is fun. The NBA season is getting underway and Dan's favorite TNT crew will be around for a bit. And the high school football playoff start this week while UWW football set an attendance record this past Friday night. All that and more coming up on this week's episode! Tell your friends.

Most years it seems as though our first couple of weeks of the season are filled with top teams pasting teams that are clearly overmatched. And while we've still had some of that in 2022, this alternate reality/Bizarro world of D-III has been pretty fun. Both UW-Whitewater/Mary Hardin-Baylor and Trinity (Texas)/Wheaton (Ill.) lived up to their billing, and made for a great fan experience. Now, hey, why can't people watch the archived video of these games? We talk with UMHB coach Larry Harmon about what his team does with this Week 2 loss at Whitewater and how they channel it the rest of the season, plus Whitewater coach Kevin Bullis talks about the 180-degree turnaround of emotions between Week 1 and Week 2, plus the work his team put in this week to try to put the St. John's loss behind them. We also hear from UWW quarterback Evan Lewandowski and wide receiver Tyler Holte. But it's not just the top teams and it never has been. Pat and Greg talk about key stories from each region. Look at the bottom of this page to see all the teams listed. That's who we talk about in this podcast, and probably more. Fan question in our mailbag from @parentingonwhls: Are we going down the same old road with Ithaca again? (The one that starts 7-0?) Plus, you didn't think we were going to get through this podcast without talking about the donuts, right? We talk with the winning coach of the Glazer Bowl, because we were there. And wait, who's applying to Division II? The post ATN Podcast 310: Loving this alternate reality of D-III football appeared first on D3football.com » D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to this latest edition of Manifest Density, your host Michael Moran here from Denver, Colorado, to explore the intersection of COVID 19 global business and society. Manifest density, of course, is brought to you by the global smart building and ESG data company Microshare. Unleash the data. Well, today I speak with Menno Lammers, did I get that right Menno ? Menno Lammers [00:00:30] Yes, you do, Menno Lammers from the Netherlands. Michael Moran [00:00:34] Iceland, and you are in the Netherlands. You are the founder of Prop Tech for Good, which is a really interesting initiative, a social enterprise in the Netherlands. And I thought maybe we'd start today with just a little bit about you and how you came to prop tech for good. Menno Lammers [00:00:53] Yes. Thank you. Thank you for the opportunity. And thank you for having me. Um yeah. What's my journey? You know, since 2005, I was involved in innovation in real estate and and I have a keen interest in digital developments as societal trends. And in 2015, I worked as an independent strategy and innovation consultant on the behalf of our leading international property management organization. And they asked me the question You know, how? How can we organize property management ten times faster, cheaper and better, like the moonshot thinking? And we worked on that, and at a certain moment that customer asked me, Hey, man, how can you research something for us in the in the UK because our headquarters is there and we have to find a way to land that moonshot? And then I dived into my international network and I found the word proptech. So it's a combination of property and technology. And no, no one in the Netherlands was. I had claimed it, but there were already some startups because I was I was also working for the government on a special special project, so I decided to just start with the product and sell it formally. It does not exist anymore because everything goes now to product for good. So I probably should. Also the first article in the Netherlands and at a certain moment, I am a bit of struggling because there is proptech is very pushed from a technology push, and I was always asking myself Why you know why? Why aren't we doing this? And so I decided where on on April two to start with the product for good movement. So I planted the seed. It was Earth Day and also the day of the birthday of my mother. So that was really something, you know, you plant the seed for the future and the products for goods is a global movement of people who are used to business as a force for good. And the alliance is built by real estate and technology. Businesses know the deficient areas in the business mills and the pioneers in that way and those who will actively drive dialog and action and change to reshape the built environment and those who use technology as a leopard to make a positive impact on societal challenges. So what we do is, you know, bringing tech and real estate together, but we we always start with a societal challenge, for example, health and wellbeing. So how the a healthy environment in offices or affordable housing or climate action? So that's always the starting point. And then we translate that. What how can real estate make that impact and how can technology being that lever for real estate to build environments to contribute to make that positive impact? So that's that's a bit of my journey. Always curious, you know, and and humble like and also like like Steve Jobs always said, you know, stay hungry. Stay foolish. That's what I like to do. Michael Moran [00:04:16] Steve Jobs also said, make sure you change plugs in the cords every time you have a new models. You never said that publicly, of course. But anyway, so we are quite familiar with PropTech being one ourselves. Mm. And not only that, because we do installations for ESG data purposes. We're quite familiar with the potential value of data that didn't exist before for companies to understand their performance in terms of environmental, social and governance and all sorts of things like climate footprint for the well-being of people inside their buildings. What is from your standpoint, what is the benefit of prop tech that that can make it a societal good? Menno Lammers [00:05:04] Yeah, you know what, what we did in in the last century's decades is being degenerative in that way. And now we have the tools and the technology to make a massive progression in that way, how we design, how we build, how we manage, how we operate, how we do the maintenance part. And that's that's a big challenge because it's still going about operation excellence. But we also have the opportunity to approach things on a different way to reduce, for example, carbon emissions because we can do a better logistics. And that's. Will be. So we connect those societal challenges, which with the technology, so it will be more integration and that will be the transition period to a more responsible, resilient and regenerative environment. And what that is, you know, we have to figure that out. First things first, but you will see that the regenerative movement will be a buzzword for the next years. But but the benefits from technology now is that we can measure we can really see what's the impact because we have to start somewhere. And when we get these signs, you know, we can we can optimize or we can rethink the processes we will see probably that we, you know, we're always proud. When we create something, we build something a great asset, you, our big tower or a skyscraper or something like that. But then we can see also what is our footprint when it's when we are running, that's that assets, but also when the embodied carbon, for example, you know what's what's in the lifecycle. So from digging into the ground, get your your towels or your route and how, yeah, what's the footprint also when it's end of life? So these kind of things we can measure, but we can also measure, you know, what's the what's the healthy environment in the building? And if people get less sick, you know, that's that's good for for everyone, for the employee, for the employer, but also for the environment as a whole, we can also see if people are happy, yes or no, you know, we can. You can answer the building, for example. Have some sort of. Yeah, it's a PR challenge, of course. But for example, if people are not that happy when they come in and when they smile, when they walk out, you know they have, they probably have a great day. You know, so there are a lot of opportunities. Also, some dark sites, of course, and we have to be aware of that. But I think we can make a massive progression in next year to do something for good. Michael Moran [00:08:18] We do a lot of this work already, and it's it's very interesting to see how it maps to the reporting requirements. The commercial real estate has the various certification programs. All of this stuff is kind of incentive for the building operators and owners and tenants to take advantage of these kind of data streams that didn't exist before. Mm-Hmm. You are someone who is helping channel technology into these demand areas, right? What do you do in terms of your conversations with people? How do you get them to understand the value of these things that you're proposing that they install? Menno Lammers [00:09:09] It's a good question, and first of all, you know, we have to create awareness that it's already there, that it exists. And you and you have to create an environment where they can, where people come together and share what they are working on or what the issues are. And it's very important also and currently also working on on an on an interview blog. And I was thinking, you know, it's so important to. Tough to figure out what the real problem is, because what what you see now, what's happening is that. Real estate companies or the people working there reach out to me and say, Man, are we? We need a solution to reduce energy. And of course, there are many, many of these kind of solutions or we want to have insights about our footprint or we want to to create the governance structure for it to to to to achieve our our net zero pledge or something like that. And it sounds easy now because you can just bring in some solutions. And there are so many and it's growing every day. But really understand why they need it. And maybe you figure out that they they need more than only that solution. And probably they will, because what you see is happening is that most of the time it's a one figure one person thing. So one person has something on his plate. They reach out. They bring a solution in. They implement that at a certain moment in some departments challenge. And then they're going to see the the big, the big benefits. And then the CEO comes in to say, Hey, listen, we have to scale it up. But then things are going to shake because implementing a solution is one with creating a data driven organization. You also have to just kid. Yeah, to to scale up people. You probably also have to reorganize the organization. So and making them at least aware, of course, you don't want to scare them, but at least, you know, helping them to get those in science are very helpful and. Afterwards, they also say, you know, it's very nice that you told the story what you already saw or experienced in the last years because it helped me to think and to ask better questions also to the solution providers because it's easy to say, OK, yeah, you can solve my problem. Okay, let's buy things. Things are done. But if you really want to create a sustainable organization, it's more than just buying or, you know, use the platform. And that's it. Michael Moran [00:12:33] So hold that thought, we're going to take a quick break to hear from our sponsor. Okay, we're back with Menno Lammas, we're talking about crop tech for good, which he founded. I want to ask you, is there a. A secret weapon that technology brings to the table in terms of understanding sustainability, because our experience is that the the E in the SG, let's look at it that way is pretty simple. You take it utility bills. You scrape utility bills with a web crawling spider. You can submeter. It's about consumption. That's a pretty simple data science challenge. It is no challenge, really, but it's the S and the G. Where to to automate things are tricky, and that's where we've been concentrating is the social aspects of of ESG, where you discussed a bit things like the environmental safety and wellness of the space, the quality of the air and the water, the ability of people to the building to be responsive to concerns. Those are the kinds of things that we have been deploying that bring data that's relevant to the needs of someone who's trying to pursue a sustainability initiative. What else is there, though, is there? Are there other things that a company can do? Menno Lammers [00:14:04] One of the things you know, and maybe I can't say it right here, but is broaden the definition of technology because we're very focused on digital. And I think we, you know, it's it's also some sort of secret SaaS or, you know, which can really push things forward. But I think we also have to be aware that that technology doesn't solve all the problems. It doesn't bring us world peace. It can help. But but I think we also have to look at, you know, materials, you know, the more the physical, physical technology and the nature of technology. One of the things you know for on the technology side, where it can facilitate is I think it's very valuable also for making that transition and that transformation in your organization and also with your stakeholders is facilitating the inclusion Part D, as you know, that's that everybody can bring in their thoughts and their knowledge. I always give the example of, Hey, we want to we want to to maintain our our assets on a good way. Let's fly with drones. And then they say, Yeah, we have to hire someone. But maybe there is someone in the organization who loves to fly with drones in his private life or her private life. And maybe that's a great opportunity. But that's that's that's not the person you normally ask, because yeah, that person is doing something else. But I think, you know, unlocking that kind of value that that potential. That's also something we underrate underestimate. I think because we are so focused as real estate or industry on the physical building and getting our profits so we can reduce costs, you know, making the building more efficient in the operations or using less materials and that kind of things. And that's good. And we have to. But we will have also be aware that we are not reducing too much, that its collapse currently in there is something going on with the stadiums, you know, with the football players because the construction was not right. So we also have to be aware. So I think there are a lot of opportunities to make it better, but we are also very good. And that's the old paradigm, I think in reducing cost, make it more efficient, doing less. And of course, we have to use less, for example, concrete because it has a lot of negative impact. But yeah, that that's I think it's on the social side. More on inclusion. Michael Moran [00:16:59] And now we need to wrap up this episode, but I wanted to make sure I gave you a chance to tell our listeners how they can follow your work and whether you're on social media. Menno Lammers [00:17:09] Yeah. Now, of course, happy to to connect to LinkedIn and of course, subscribe to the to the newsletter on the pro-tax and proptech for good dot.com websites so you can get your monthly newsletter and stay at at the state had on the on the curve with the PropTech for future developments. If you've been to the doctor or talked to a healthcare professional, you have probably heard the term “BMI”. Body Mass Index (aka BMI), is a value derived from your weight and height and is used as an indicator of body fat. BMI is an inexpensive alternative compared to direct measures of body fat, such as UWW, DEXA, seven site skinfold, etc. As mentioned, it does not directly measure body fat. However, it is sometimes discussed as a prominent evaluation of your health status. Research shows that over 30% of Americans are considered overweight or obese. However, these results are typically based on BMI status. So how can you accurately assess your health? Does BMI even matter? Tune in to find out!
