The Matt and Tubes face down "Snake Eyes".  An epic "Political Thriller?!?"  I'm not sure of the genre, but I am sure that "Snake Eyes" is Crucial!   NIcholas Cage gives his all as "Rick Santoro" a dirt-bag detective who gets forced into doing the right thing. He will have to compete with Gary Sinese who is chaneling his manliness into "Kevin Dunne" a Navy Commander who may be up to no good.    The whole affair turns into one of the greatest Neo-noir adventures of all time! It's really Neo-noir, I promise!   This was a fun one! Enjoy!   Love, 2bs    Up Next: "Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol"

In this episode, the crew at TruVue Podcast dives headfirst into the twisted depths of Paradise (2025), a Hulu original series that brings political chaos and psychological drama to the underground elite. Created by Dan Fogelman and starring Sterling K. Brown, this sci-fi political thriller takes place in a secret bunker called “Paradise,” built for the world's elite after a climate catastrophe. When the President turns up dead, former Secret Service agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown) finds himself in a pressure cooker of lies, cover-ups, and buried truths. The deeper he digs, the more it becomes clear that “Paradise” is just a polished prison. This show is what happens when House of Cards and Snowpiercer hook up in a fallout shelter, and the baby grows up on conspiracy theory podcasts. We're talkin' murder, manipulation, power struggles, and a Digital Underground of rebellion hiding within the system. And as always—this conversation is NSFW. It's not about the review, it's the conversation with the crew. We keep it real on the reels.

And of course, we're breaking it all down TruVue-style—spoilers, NSFW jokes, and barbershop banter that cuts deeper than a conspiracy. Author Matt Scott discusses his political thriller series, Surviving the Lion's Den. All three books in this trilogy—Surviving the Lion's Den, The Iranian Deception, and The Ayatollah Takedown—are available now. The series opens with a race against time. Can the main characters make it safely out of Iran in the midst of a political coup to overthrow Iran's Supreme Leader—a coup orchestrated by the U.S. government? Inspired by Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, Matt set about to write a series that would explore what it looks like to be inside Iran during a regime change. The books feature CIA operatives, Iranian insiders, international intrigue, geopolitical conflicts, and plenty of fast-paced tension.

Each episode peels back layers of intrigue, exposing covert missions and the tangled webs of deceit woven with the approval of the highest echelons of power. Listen if you dare.(00:00 - 01:25) Valentine discusses his extensive research on the CIA, noting it operates outside U.S. laws with Congressional, executive, and Supreme Court backing, enabling it to commit crimes overseas without prosecution.(02:03 - 03:28) He outlines the CIA's operation criteria: intelligence potential and absolute deniability, explaining that operations must be both potentially beneficial and entirely secret, with agents often disguised as diplomats, military officers, or businessmen to maintain deniability.(03:28 - 05:10) Valentine introduces his book and the Phoenix Program, a CIA initiative from the Vietnam War aimed at dismantling the Viet Cong's infrastructure through targeting civilian leaders, emphasizing the program's secrecy and its critical role in U.S. military strategy.(06:32 - 10:27) The Phoenix Program is described in depth, revealing its two-tier approach: high-level operations to turn Viet Cong leaders into double agents and low-level actions to terrorize villagers and dissuade them from supporting the Viet Cong, often using extreme measures like bombings and assassinations.(11:35 - 55:38) Valentine shares personal anecdotes about his journey to uncovering CIA secrets, his interactions with key figures like William Colby and Evan Parker, and the broader implications of his findings, including the alignment of CIA objectives with American capitalist and imperialist agendas, and the parallel he draws between the Phoenix Program and post-9/11 U.S. Homeland Security strategies.

JFK is as fascinating as it is a flawed film. It raises important questions and challenges viewers to think critically about the official narratives they have been told. However, its tendency to prioritize dramatic effect over factual accuracy can be troubling, making it a polarizing experience. JFK is a riveting watch for those who can appreciate its artistic and narrative ambitions, but it's not a film to be taken at face value.

Olympic hero turned peace campaigner Ruslan Shanidza sets out on his most ambitious undertaking, leading a campaign to unseat the brutal strongman who rules his post-communist homeland. He assembles a fractious coalition of rivals and former enemies. But they must confront some very dangerous men, who have so much blood on their hands that they can never allow their grip on power to slip. The conflict quickly escalates as the President and his henchmen plot a murderous crackdown. Ruslan soon learns that he has placed himself and his family right in the firing line in an increasingly desperate fight to the finish. This third Ruslan Shanidza novel can be enjoyed without reading the other two. It is a political thriller rooted in time and place that draws upon real historical events as it races to its denouement."Clark uses real events as inspiration, weaving history into an engaging narrative…told through the story of Ruslan and his family alongside a cast of other (many unsavoury) characters. It's a style I enjoy…It's also engaging in a way that I found myself thinking about it while I wasn't reading it… Although the last in a trilogy (and I haven't read the others), that didn't hold me back and it can be read as a standalone."Lachlan Page, author of Magical Disinformation and The General of Caracas"…the quality of the characters depicted in this book was superb. The author did an amazing job at comprehensively developing the characters by giving them really strong personalities that will stick with the reader till the end of the story."…gripped my interest throughout the entire book due to its powerful message of freedom from tyranny. The political and military aspects of the book were very intriguing..."I recommend this book to lovers of historical fiction and thrillers...if you seek a great read, Day of the Long Knivesby Paul Clark is the book for you."OnlineBookClub.Org Official Review

"From a bestselling storyteller who brings together myths and speculative futures with a radical compassion, comes the story of a family at the heart of a political crisis and the ensuing uprising of a disenfranchised generation. A family that harnesses the skills and stories needed for real change, if they can choose the right path, before it is too late …As Lan lies dying, she makes a promise that binds her long into the Beyond. Fifteen years later, her teenage granddaughter, Kaitlyn, triggers an international storm of outrage that unleashes the rage of a whole betrayed generation. For one shining fragment of time, the world is with her. But then the backlash begins and soon she and those closest to her find themselves facing the wrath of the old establishment, who will use every dirty trick in the book to fight them off.Watching over the growing chaos is Lan, who taught them all to think independently, approach power sceptically and dream with clear intent. She knows more than one generation's hopes are on the line. Nothing less than the future of humanity stands in the balance.Grand in scope, rich in courageous characters who breathe new life into ancient wisdom, here is a dream of a better future: a world we'd be proud to leave to our children and their children and on, generations down the line.‘A polemical thriller like no other, an absorbing manifesto to change the world. Author Stephen Markley opens the doors to The Deluge, his ground-breaking, world-changing Climate/MetaCrisis thriller- 900 pages that absolutely squarely rips into the current system in all its deficiencies - and offers a route through to a future that might work. This week's guest is someone who has mapped out a possible future in a depth and detail that leaves me awestruck. Stephen Markley's first published novel Ohio, was described as a wild, angry, and devastating masterpiece of a book. Stephen King called it this generation's Grapes of Wrath and there is no doubt that it's a beautifully written, lyrical, devastating debut. But it turns out Ohio was the book he wrote in the midst of writing the novel we're going to talk about today. The Deluge is nine hundred pages of astonishing depth and breadth that takes as its topic the meta-crisis. It's an excoriating evisceration of neoliberalism and the thousands of small acts of mendacity or cowardice or sheer self-absorption that have got us to the edge of the cliff. It's an examination of just how close we are, and a portrayal of how utterly catastrophic will be the impacts if we step over. It's a deeply political book, but at heart it's also incredibly humane, with a cast of characters that spreads across contemporary American life in ways that I have rarely, if ever, encountered. I read the book and connected with Stephen because Rupert Read, who was with us last week, called me up and said 'This is a glorious Thrutopian novel, you have to read it.' And there were times when I completely did not believe him. But he's right. it's big. It requires huge dedication. But it's well, well worth the investment in terms of the doors it opens - and the many ways it shows us how we might fail before we finally succeed. Stephen's website https://www.stephenmarkley.com/The Deluge https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/the-deluge-stephen-markley/7544942?ean=9781982123109

Pakula who would go on to direct the even more iconic All The President's Men a couple of years later, it stars Oscar-winning legend Warren Beatty as a journalist working for a small publication in the Pacific Northwest who inadvertently stumbles on a mysterious organization which might have been involved with the recent murder of a U.S. Senator.  Once he finds his own life in danger as a result, he decides to attempt to infiltrate this organization and possibly even moonlight as a potential assassin himself to try to expose them and bring them down.   And what results is a series of hair-raising situations which will test him in every conceivable way. ;o Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Welcome to Mysteries to Die For and this Toe TagI am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is normally a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you at the heart of mystery, murder, and mayhem. Today is a bonus episode we call a Toe Tag. It is the first chapter from a fresh release in the mystery, crime, and thriller genre.Today's featured release is Second Term by JM Adams. The Second Term was released from Oceanview Publishing and is promoted by Partners In Crime Tours and is available from AMAZON LINK and other book retailers.About JM AdamsJM ADAMS has more than 15 years of on-air television journalism experience, reporting for CBS and NBC news affiliates across the United States. Highlights from his career include sea patrols with the Navy after the 9/11 attacks and reporting on location from Kuwait, Iraq, and a number of hurricane disaster zones across the country. Adams was briefly detained in East Germany during the fall of the Berlin Wall. Second Term is his debut novel.Adams lives in Northern New Jersey with his wife, two daughters, and a pair of Cavashons who appear to have taken over the house.TG Wolff ReviewSecond Term is a Political Thriller. Cora Walker represents the best of US intelligence and skills. Sixteen years after leading a campaign to protect the US Embassy in Benghazi, Libya, she is pressed into action again. This time, she is defending the Capital and Speaker of the House against a homegrown attack.Bottom line: Second Term is for you if you love tense, political thrillers built from today's headlines.Strengths of the story. This story is told in three parts. First is a 2012 invasion of the US Embassy in Benghazi, Libya. The second is 2028, post presidential election and set the scene for Cora as the press secretary for the Speaker of the House. The third is January 2029 and the chaos accompanying a president who does not want to step down. The first thing that pops out about this story is the intensity. Adams doesn't waste words as he builds worlds both in Libya and Washington, D.C. We see both worlds through the eyes of the efficient, no-nonsense Cora Walker. The intensity drives the pacing and, for me, kept the pages turning. The texture to this book is notable. JM Adams takes us to the places he has been not just through visual description but through sounds and smells. It adds a layer to the scenes making them richer and more real.Cora Walker is a strong character who acts independently and according to her moral code. The things she does engaging the enemy places her with other elite fictional agents like Jack Reacher and Jason Bourne. She is a fun hero to cheer for.Where the story fell short of ideal: While not short of ideal, readers are either going to love or going to hate how the main story presents a sadly easily imagined attack on US democracy by an egomaniac president who can't accept losing and attacks everyone and everything in an effort to win.Thrillers are one of the hard genres to resolve the storylines without breaking logic. The Benghazi story line was especially tight and stood up well. I would have liked a bit more detail on what happened, but that is a personal preference. For Parts 2 and 3, Cora acted true to her character with no flaws in her decisions. I did take some issue with the actions of other characters in developing the situation Cora had to fight her way out of. If you can get past those and/or focus on Cora, you'll enjoy one heck of a...

Most of us do not colour code our threat levels. But nations do.Following 9/11, the Homeland Security Advisory System in America in 2002 came up with the warning system that we all know and love today in our TV shows—green, blue, yellow, orange and red, depending, obviously, on the severity of the threat.Government officials plan and practice their responses to each threat level—war games for the bureaucrats. What if the threat was not a threat in the conventional sense of some action that the nation must defend, but the threat that comes from nothing at all? One example is say, the leader of the nation passes and the administration suddenly loses its alpha and is left rudderless and the panjandrums receive no instructions on what to do next.Building an entire novel built upon this possibility as a foundational premise, is my guest today, a journalist, author, analyst, and commentator, and now, novelist. Aakar Patel, known for his extensive body of work in politics, culture, and political economics, has ventured into the world of fiction with his debut novel—After Messiah.A novel is a remarkable canvas for expressing ideas, freeing the author from the constraints of traditional media like newspapers.Newspapers, for instance, are required to simply and clearly report what happened. But sometimes as a newsperson, you get to know about things that you cannot report by the usual rules of reportage. Such as off-the-record information that might be of great importance. The edit page of the newspaper is for such things— where you might reveal or hint at something, having editorialised it.Aakar Patel's work raises essential questions about the role of the bureaucracy and the responsibilities it bears. His superior skills in prose ensure that his novel is not just thought-provoking but also an effortless—and very often funny—read. Aakar is not one to stay snugly inside the box; he busts out the whole “eager to learn and illuminate” ethic and thus, escapes the confines of convention.Today, he unveils this debut novel. While After Messiah might be his debut novel, this is not his debut appearance on The Literary City. He is my first returning guest in almost two years of this show.
