Excess guilt felt by Catholics and lapsed Catholics

This week, Ross introduces Carie to the absolute delight that is Sister Act (1992), a film about a lounge singer who witnesses a murder and is forced to hide out in a convent of nuns. Ross has a lot of feelings on the arrangements of Sister Mary Clarence's lounge tunes in the church choir. Carie's heart is stolen by a sweet young nun with a surprisingly big voice. And surprisingly, the siblings see the power that Catholic guilt has in taking on the mafia. SUPPORT US ON PATREON!
Hell's Kitchen will never be the same. Hosts Peter Melnick and Eddie Wilson are joined by guest co-host @RyanMichaelToon for a massive season finale episode of The Marvelists Presents Catholic Guilt - A Daredevil: Born Again Podcast as the crew breaks down the explosive Season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again. This week, Peter, Eddie, and Ryan dig into Matt Murdock's defining moment of truth as he finally declares, “I am Daredevil,” setting off a chain reaction that tears through Fisk's collapsing power structure and pushes New York into chaos. From Karen Page's high-stakes legal battle and Fisk's unraveling grip on the city, to escalating violence in the streets and devastating personal consequences for Matt, the gang unpacks a finale packed with fallout, betrayal, and irreversible change. The episode also covers The Punisher: One Last Kill, breaking down Frank Castle's latest brutal chapter and how the special continues to push Marvel's street-level storytelling into darker, more unrelenting territory. Plus, debuting this episode is the brand-new theme song, “The Big Adventure” by Alex Besss — setting the tone for a finale built on fire, consequence, and collapse. The mask is off. The city is burning. The guilt remains. Music from #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/t/alex-besss/the-big-adventure License code: AATIG6IWFYTVVCVB

In this week's episode of *The Marvelists Presents: Catholic Guilt – A Daredevil: Born Again Podcast*, hosts **Peter Melnick** and **Eddie Wilson** dive headfirst into Episode 7 of Season 2, where the tension is high, the fists are flying, and Matt Murdock's moral compass is spinning like it just went twelve rounds in Hell's Kitchen. Joining them as guest co-host is comic book veteran **Chris Ryall**, former Editor-in-Chief of IDW Publishing and a longtime creative voice in the world of *Daredevil*. Chris also authored a book on *Daredevil: Born Again* as part of the *Marvel Age of Comics* line, focusing on the classic 1980s comic storyline and its lasting impact on the character. With that background, he brings a sharp, insider perspective to the discussion—breaking down the episode's themes, character beats, and how this latest chapter compares to Daredevil's most defining moments in comics history. Together, Peter, Eddie, and Chris unpack the episode's biggest reveals, dig into the ever-present themes of guilt and redemption, and speculate on what's next for the Man Without Fear. As always, Matt's struggle between justice and faith takes center stage—and let's just say, things aren't getting any easier for him. And yes—before you ask—the podcast is once again temporarily without a theme song. At this point, it's less of a glitch and more of a tradition. Honestly, the silence at the beginning might be the most consistent thing about the show. All that and more on this week's episode—no confession booth required… but you may want to say a few Hail Marys anyway.
This week on Catholic Guilt, Peter Melnick and Eddie Wilson are joined by special guest co-host JP Sarro of The Lapsed Fan as they dive deep into Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 6 – “Requiem.” Jessica Jones storms back into the MCU with her signature no-nonsense attitude (and a surprise family tie-in), while Matt Murdock finally steps into Fisk's orbit for a tense confrontation that blends legal savvy, raw emotion, and classic Catholic guilt-fueled moral wrestling. The episode delivers intense stakes, a massive cliffhanger, and some of the rawest Hell's Kitchen vibes yet. But that's not all—JP reveals his own MCU journey as he recounts his experience as an extra (dockworker/Berto vibes) in the episode, sharing what it was like being on set, the NDA secrecy, and how his voice might just echo in the background of one of the season's key scenes. Expect plenty of laughs as the conversation inevitably veers into Lapsed Fan territory with shout-outs to Lapsed Vince running wild in the boardroom and Lapsed Hogan leg-dropping any plot holes that dare show up. Also, a quick note for the faithful: due to some mysterious “creative differences,” there is no theme song for the foreseeable future. Consider this episode's cold open your penance—raw, unfiltered, and slightly awkward, just like a proper Catholic confession. Faith, fists, family drama, and a little wrestling podcast crossover chaos—tune in for the full breakdown, hot takes on the Defenders' slow-burn reunion, and whether this “Requiem” signals the true rebirth of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Confess your thoughts in the comments, and don't forget to hail Mary your way over to subscribe!
Father Eric Nielsen joins Patrick to discuss Conscience and Catholic Guilt (2:47) What is the Conscience? Comparison Game (14:32) Nick -In my own life before conversion, so many thing innate about me. Compared myself to others. Not seeing the plank in my eye and trying to remove the splinter in theirs. What got me away from the evil Father Talked about. Go before the tabernacle. Keeps me grounded and what the Lord wants me to know is the truth and follow. (16:41) Mark - Everything is normalized in our society. Adultery, abortion, trans. etc. One big denial of sin. Having a conscience, you're lucky to have some Catholic guilt. You gotta have some discipline and a strong will. (19:24) Break 1 Email about the role of guilt in our life. (22:48) how to form our Conscience? (25:28) Lorraine - Once a catholic always a catholic. Have a best friend who hasn't been a catholic for years. We use each other for reality checks to see if we did something right or wrong. (31:21) Lewis - Is there such a thing as spiritual adultery? Conrad - Guilt...and sins in my lifetime. I had a bad life growing up and I've repented and changed. Say the rosary everyday for 20 years or more. I was the black sheep. I was born a catholic and went off track. (39:19) Break 2 (43:09) Bernice - Even when you believe you're right, the holy spirit always helps you to reflect. My brother was getting on my patience, and I did not speak as a true Catholic who receives the body and blood of Christ. Started praying and found how my Catholic conscience helped. (45:54) Josephine - I get a lot of thoughts of fear and shame and guilt and it takes away my peace. How do I deal with this?
This week on Catholic Guilt, Peter and Eddie step back into the confessional as Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 delivers one of its most introspective and emotionally charged episodes yet. “The Grand Design” splits time between the present-day fallout from Bullseye's brutal attack on Vanessa Fisk and haunting flashbacks that reframe Matt Murdock's past, Wilson Fisk's origins, and the fragile threads of mercy, fate, and redemption. While Wilson Fisk keeps vigil at his wife's bedside, praying for a miracle, Matt must confront his own Catholic guilt head-on—deciding whether to save the man who murdered his best friend or let justice (and the Devil) take its course. Foggy Nelson's memory looms large, old faces from Hell's Kitchen return in unexpected ways, and the episode grapples with big questions: Is there such a thing as a second chance? Can even the Devil show mercy? And what part does “God's will” play in the grand design of it all? Peter and Eddie break down the episode's masterful use of flashbacks, Charlie Cox's nuanced portrayal of a hero wrestling with faith and vengeance, Vincent D'Onofrio's heartbreaking vulnerability as Fisk, and how this hour quietly becomes one of the strongest of the season so far. Expect plenty of rosary-clutching discussion, theological deep dives, and the usual Hell's Kitchen banter. Plus: Reactions to that gut-punch ending, theories on where Daredevil and Bullseye's uneasy alliance heads next, and how the show continues to honor (without cheapening) the emotional weight of loss. Hail Marys optional… but highly encouraged after this one. Grab your billy clubs, light a candle, and join us in the booth.
This week on The Marvelists Presents: Catholic Guilt - A Daredevil Born Again Podcast, Peter and Eddie return to the confessional for a triple dose of Hell's Kitchen intensity as Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 ramps up the stakes. Matt Murdock is in hiding, Wilson Fisk tightens his grip with martial law and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, and the battle for New York's soul grows bloodier by the hour. In “Shoot the Moon,” Fisk makes a calculated political play by declaring Matt Murdock “missing” and publicly blaming the Devil of Hell's Kitchen—while Bullseye (Dex) wrestles with his fractured psyche, showing up at a church and forcing Matt to confront questions of grace, guilt, and whether some monsters can ever truly be redeemed. Karen Page and the growing resistance scramble as the city spirals deeper into darkness. “The Scales & The Sword” delivers major action as Matt teams up with unlikely allies—including the Swordsman (Jack Duquesne)—for a high-stakes prison break at Red Hook. Angela del Toro makes her powerful debut as the new White Tiger, billy clubs clash, and Daredevil's radar sense is pushed to the limit. But Fisk responds with a brutal counterstrike that sends bodies to the bottom of the East River. Then in “Gloves Off,” the fists fly both literally and figuratively: Bullseye adopts a dangerous new routine, Fisk steps into the ring, and Matt's internal struggle reaches new heights as he questions whether mercy is a strength or a deadly weakness in a city that's bleeding out. Peter and Eddie unpack the heavy faith-driven moral dilemmas, the jaw-dropping fight choreography (that Red Hook breakout is next-level), the escalating Fisk-Murdock chess game, and how the series continues to wrestle with sin, forgiveness, redemption, and what it truly means to be a hero in a fallen world. They also discuss the expanding resistance, White Tiger's arrival, and whether Matt's hesitation toward Bullseye is noble… or just classic Catholic guilt wrapped in a devil suit. Grab your rosary beads, your nightstick, and maybe something strong from Josie's. This trio of episodes is heavy, heartfelt, and packed with horns. New episode drops now—hail Mary, full of grace… and full of punches.

This week on the Marvelists spinoff Catholic Guilt, hosts Peter Melnick and Eddie Wilson kick things off with a little housekeeping: celebrating the official announcement that Wonder Man Season 2 is officially happening (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley are coming back—yes, the bromance continues), geeking out over the brand-new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer that just dropped and is already breaking records, and sharing first impressions of the striking teaser poster for the upcoming Marvel Television Special Presentation The Punisher: One Last Kill (Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle returns May 12 on Disney+—get ready). Then it's time to dive headfirst into the Man Without Fear's long-awaited return. Peter and Eddie break down Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 1 – “The Northern Star,” where a hidden Matt Murdock takes the fight to the East River, infiltrating the cargo ship Northern Star to uncover and disrupt Wilson Fisk's illegal weapons smuggling operation. From the tense stealth action aboard the vessel and the dramatic sinking that strikes a blow against Fisk's regime, to the escalating political tensions in a post-martial-law Hell's Kitchen and the fresh moral dilemmas that hit extra hard for our Catholic-raised crew, they unpack the season premiere's high-stakes setup, Matt's ongoing internal struggle, and how the stakes feel even higher this time around. Expect plenty of Catholic guilt-fueled debates on justice versus power, classic Murdock self-flagellation, and the hosts wondering how Matt's faith (or lack thereof) is going to hold up against Fisk's authoritarian control and the shadows of his past. Plus, as always: spoilers, tangents, bad puns, and way too much enthusiasm for foggy New York rooftops and billy clubs. New episode of Catholic Guilt drops now—grab your rosary and your nightstick, folks. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is back in session.

Today, I am deLIGHTed to share this new imperfectly perfect episode of the Flourishing Education podcast. I interviewed Kathryn Lovewell, a mindful self-compassion teacher and author, about her journey with self-compassion and how it has transformed her life. Kathryn shared her background as a former secondary school educator and her transition to teaching self-compassion, which she describes as the missing link to well-being. Together, we discussed the three key elements of self-compassion: mindfulness, common humanity, and self-kindness, as well as the importance of recognising both the tender and fierce aspects of self-compassion. Kathryn emphasised the need to teach children self-compassion early in life to prevent suffering later in life. The conversation explored how self-compassion can help individuals navigate challenges, including personal struggles and caring for loved ones. We also truly connected on the topic of Euro-patriarchy, Catholic Guilt and their impact on self-perception. The episode concluded with Kathryn encouraging listeners to seek out resources and practitioners to learn self-compassion, and she offered her contact information for further connection, which can be found here:WebsiteLinkedIn: Detail of topics:04:16 - Mindful self compassion overview14:23 - Journey to self-appreciation26:36 - Overcoming catholic guilt through meditation42:22 - Embracing self-compassion and balance50:08 - Self compassion and authenticity journey58:59 - Booster and Crusher and their voices01:06 - Self compassion and personal growthI hope you enJOY it as much as I did. Eric King was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after trying to firebomb a government building with Molotov cocktails, but the real story is what happened once the cell door slammed shut. In this episode, he breaks down how a politically motivated arson case turned into nearly 8 years in solitary confinement, brutal clashes with staff, and a fast-track transfer into America's most notorious federal supermax, ADX. From the mindset it takes to target the government, to the moment he realized he might never see general population again, Eric gives an unfiltered look at control units, isolation, and life in a place built to break you. If you've ever wondered what actually happens to “the worst of the worst” once they disappear into the federal system, this conversation is your inside look at the cost of that choice. _____________________________________________ #ianbick #prisonlife #truecrime#prisonstories #inmatelife #jailstories #justicesystem #worstprisons _____________________________________________ Buy Eric King's Book: https://pmpress.org/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1872 _____________________________________________ Thank you to AVA for sponsoring this episode: Take control of your credit today. In this live episode of the Logos Podcast, recorded at SEEK 2026, Father Max and Father Joseph take on the misunderstood topic of Catholic guilt. What is it really? Is guilt something harmful to be avoided, or a necessary part of the Christian life?Drawing from Scripture, Church teaching, personal experience, and pastoral ministry, the conversation explores the difference between healthy conviction and destructive scrupulosity, the role of conscience, and how guilt can actually be a gift of the Holy Spirit leading us back to God. The priests unpack how rule-based faith can distort our relationship with God, why mercy must always be central, and how authentic Catholic living moves from fear to filial love. This episode also features audience Q&A on discernment, confession, scrupulosity, evangelization in secular spaces, and navigating faith in a culture that rejects moral conviction.Website: http://www.logos-podcast.com/Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/3PCPWBvNcAbptX17PzlC2x?si=BkEHS4vGSf-xmMlDFcpZ2QApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/logos-podcast/id1560191231YouTube: https://youtube.com/@logospodxast?si=RaYkZAfLKea2kBtZInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/logospodxastPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/logospodcastSponsored by the Augustine Institute:Apply now: https://www.augustine.edu/logosSupport the show

IRIS IS BACK, BABY! October means horror movies (it's the only time of year I can get away with it) and questionable life choices, so naturally she picked Immaculate, starring Sydney Sweeney, a convent, and vibes that are NOT Christ-like.
