Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 2ú lá de mí Aibreán, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1976 bhí an ECC ag iarradh caith amach ball nach raibh ag déanamh an rud ceart. I 1993 tháinig an nuacht amach go raibh an GAA ag smaoineamh ar cead a thabhairt chuig cluichí rugbaí a imir I bPáirc an Chrócaigh. Dúradh go raibh siad ag smaoineamh ar de bharr go mbeidís ábalta níos mó airgead a fháil don fhorbairt ar an staid. I 2011 ainmníodh Liam Sheedy mar dhuine den bhliain don chontae. Bhí é féin agus an lucht bainistíochta go hiontach I 2010 d'iománaíocht. I 2014 fuair bean darbh ainm Kerrie O'Connor gléas ina ghairdín nuair a bhí sí ag glanadh suas. Chuaigh an scuad diúscartha buamaí chuici agus dúirt siad go raibh an ghránáid ón Chéad Chogadh Domhanda. Sin Brotherhood of Man le Save Your Kisses For Me – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo i 1976. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1977 chuaigh Fleetwood Mac chuig barr na cairteacha lena albam Rumours. Bhí amhráin ar an albam cosúil le Go Your Own Way, Dreams, Don't Stop agus You Make Loving Fun. Bhí sé an t-albam is mó a chuir Fleetwood Mac amach agus bhí sé sna cairteacha ar feadh 20 bhliain I Meiriceá agus dhíol siad níos mó ná 40 milliúin cóip timpeall an domhain. I 2001 shínigh Mariah Carey margadh iontach le Virgin Records do 3 albam leis an luach nach mór 100 milliúin dollar. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh amhránaí Marvin Gaye I Meiriceá I 1939 agus rugadh amhránaí Zach Bryan I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1996 agus seo chuid de a amhrán. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 2nd of April, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh In 1976 The ECC was on the verge of putting the economic boot in against members stepping out of line In 1993 The GAA considered allowing rugby to be played at Croke park as part of its plans to secure millions of pounds of state funding for the development of the stadium. In 2011 - Liam Sheedy, the retired Tipperary senior hurling manager, was named Tipperary Association Dublin's choice for Tipperary Person of the year, The Portroe man along with his excellent management team led Tipperary to the holy grail of hurling in 2010 In 2014 - Kerrie O'Connor was tending her garden in Rathurles when she came across the device, prompting her to alert local gardaí. Members of the Army Bomb Disposal Team were called, the grenade dated back to around the time of World War I. That was Brotherhood of Man with Save Your Kisses For Me – the biggest song on this day in 1976. Onto music news on this day in1977, Fleetwood Mac topped the Billboard 200 with their 11th studio album, Rumours. Featuring such enduring Top Ten hits as “Go Your Own Way,” “Dreams,” “Don't Stop,” and “You Make Loving Fun,” the Grammy-winning album would become the band's most successful release, eventually spending more than 20 non-consecutive years on the US chart and selling more than 40 million copies worldwide. In 2001, Mariah Carey signed what was then the most lucrative recording deal in pop music history when she agreed to join Virgin Records in a three-album deal reportedly worth $100 million. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – Marvin Gaye was born in america in 1939 and singer Zach Bryan was born in america on this day in 1996 and this is one of his songs. I'll be back with you tomorrow with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.

Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy reflected on Tipperary's 0-20 to 0-20 draw with defending champions Limerick in the first round of the National Hurling League on Saturday evening. #SportLK
The 2021 GAA season is back and finally fans can feel some sense of normalcy return. It may be a truncated League this year but what an opening hurling fixture to whet the appetite between reigning champions, Limerick, and the team most eager to prove a point against them, Tipperary. Previewing the Allianz Hurling Leagues, Will Slattery and Michael Verney were joined by Vincent Hogan and John Mullane who assess the teams and players to watch out for and why. For Vincent Hogan, Limerick v Tipp is an important game for both teams to lay down a marker, but for Tipperary especially. “Over the last couple of years, there's no doubt about it that Limerick have had their number and they've had their number quite comfortably and I think that's a big thing for Liam Sheedy going into this. Saturday night is a big enough game because he's got to convince his own players that they can match Limerick.” For John Mullane meanwhile, he’s keeping an eye on Wexford, Dublin and Cork, the teams that under-performed in the Championship last year, particularly Cork. “They need to have a good League campaign. They need to build up a level of consistency where they're consistent in performance and I think if they're consistent in performance, I think the results will come. Of the five games Kieran Kingston will be targeting will probably be winning three to four of those matches and then bringing it into the Championship.” For more from the Throw-In podcast go to: www.independent.ie/podcasts/the-throw-in/ The Throw-In podcast is in association with Allianz.ie.
“I don’t think there can be any bad result on Saturday night for us.” “Ultimately we’re playing the best team in the country. I think they’re even-money favourites for the Championship so they’re there for a reason. They’ve take a lot of cups over the last three years and they’re a fine side.” Liam Sheedy is ready for the Limerick challenge in the League this Saturday. #SportLK Credit Stephen Gleeson for the audio.
Ahead of the return of the National League in hurling and football Stephen Gleeson spoke to hurling manager Liam Sheedy, hurler Ronan Maher, football captain Conor Sweeney and manager of the football team David Power. Both the senior hurlers and footballers begin their campaigns against Limerick.

There was just hurling action in the Allianz Leagues over the weekend and on this week’s Throw-In, Vincent Hogan, Donnchadh Boyle and John Mullane joined Will Slattery to look back on all the games. Galway’s resurgence under Shane O’Neill and their 3-12 scored in the second half to seal victory over Tipperary caught the eye the most and John Mullane reckons their potent forward line could be one to watch in the summer. Waterford have also been rejuvenated under a new manager and Liam Cahill’s philosophy and ethos were highlighted by Vincent Hogan and the panel when discussing the Deise’s new energy and attitude. May 10th sees Tipperary visit Waterford in their Munster Championship fixture and Liam Sheedy knows Tipp have an awful lot of work to do between now and then to come away with a win. Tipperary is basking in the glow of an incredible 2019 season for them with the U20s picking up their own All Ireland title just a week after the seniors success and this week’s Throw-In with Will Slattery and Michael Verney looks back on the weekend action. And the future is bright for Tipperary hurling judging by the U20s devastation of Cork in the final with an amazing four goals in the opening ten minutes. Jerome Cahill was one of a trio, including Jake Morris and Paddy Cadell, who claimed senior medals in Croke Park and they will be looking to make their mark on Liam Sheedy’s team in the next few years. Meanwhile, for Cork, with no underage All Ireland hurling since 2001, they need to start winning again to quell any doubts about themselves moving forwards. Will and Michael also review the Ladies football semi-finals with 10,000 in attendance for the first Ladies semi-finals to be held in Croke Park between Dublin v Cork and Galway v Mayo with Dublin and Galway winning out. Like the men’s team, Dublin Ladies are building their own footballing dynasty seeking a three-in-a-row while their opponents, Galway are in their first final since 2005. Ken Hogan, Derek McGrath and Ger Cunningham review Tipp's All-Ireland triumph with Anthony Daly. In association with Renault, official car partner of the GAA. - Liam Sheedy's business template, management by delegation - The Teneo factor - Head-high tackles: should Richie Hogan have seen red? - Ken Hogan's pride - But what has Hawkeye got against his son? - Bill's breakthrough: Niall O'Meara makes his mark - Tommy Dunne's second coming too - The imprint of Eamon O'Shea; on backs as well as forwards - Heartbroken for Bonner... - Sheedy will be barricaded into Semple now And much more....
It's been a bit of a roller-coaster year for Tipperary - an All-Ireland win looked pretty unlikely at the end of the league, looked very likely indeed after the Munster championship round-robin, and then after a 12 point hammering from Limerick in the Munster final, it looked a rather remote possibility again. But from the ashes of that chastening day, they came good when it mattered - and in a game that will be remembered for Richie Hogan's red card, they were crowned All-Ireland champions yesterday. Michael Duignan and Malachy Clerkin tell us why they reckon Tipp would've won it anyway even without the red card, how real life scar tissues helped this Tipp team mature, and even speculate on what next for Brian Cody. Plus there's Eoin's hurler of the year, Murph's end of season celebrations, and Liam Sheedy's glazed eyes.
All Ireland hurling finals are something very special and this year promises to be no different. It’s the return of the heavyweights: Tipperary v Kilkenny, Liam Sheedy v Brian Cody III. No manager has beaten Brian Cody in two finals so will this be the year that it happens? Previewing the 2019 All Ireland Hurling Final with Will Slattery and Michael Verney on this week’s Throw-In are Donnchadh Boyle, Conor McKeon and John Mullane. While the panel believes it’s ‘as 50-50 as you can get’, they are edging towards Tipp’s greater firepower to get them over the line. All will be revealed come Sunday…. For more from the Throw-In, visit the show page at: www.independent.ie/podcasts/the-throw-in/ The Throw-In is in association with Bord Gáis Energy.
It’s the finest of margins that decide matches at this stage of the Championship and the 2019 All Hurling Final sees the return of the traditional heavyweights with Tipperary and Kilkenny facing off in August after a weekend of epic semi-finals. “The two best teams have ended up in the final,” says Brendan Cummins who joined Will Slattery, Martin Breheny and Conor McKeon on this week’s Throw-In. “Tipperary were slaughtered after the Munster final but Liam Sheedy will back these guys to the end.” And Kilkenny haven’t gone away you know. The question is, how would an All Ireland title rank with this team for Brian Cody? The panel also discussed the standard of refereeing, whether VAR needs introducing – or two referees as Martin Breheny would prefer – and the future of Davy Fitz. Plus they nominate their Rising Stars from the weekend and look ahead to the final round of the Super 8s where it’s do-or-die in Castlebar for Mayo while Jim Gavin brings his team for another battle in Omagh. For more from the Throw-In, visit the show page at: www.independent.ie/podcasts/the-throw-in/ The Throw-In is in association with Bord Gáis Energy.
There really isn't enough time between All-Ireland hurling semi-finals to digest the full magnitude of what went on this weekend, but we'll give it a shot today, as we try and sort out just how we're left with a fifth Tipperary/Kilkenny final in the last 10 years. Michael Duignan and former Kilkenny legend Brian Hogan are magnanimous as Eoin admits that - yes, hurling folk DO bang on a bit about it but... bloody hell, what a sport. We talk about the myth of Cody, Liam Sheedy's magnificent job, and why the sweeper system is all Brian Hogan's fault*... (*might not actually be his fault). Plus - 'Brits out' says Donal Óg Cusack (we think), Ann Downey's insights into the Kilkenny mindset, Captain Murph, Cody - Sheedy comparisons, and if things get tough, just quit.
Liam Sheedy - "Ultimately we lost too many battles and lost the war" by Sporting Limerick
Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy reflects on his side's excellent win over Limerick at Semple Stadium today.
Brendan Cummins joins Will Slattery, Frank Roche and Vincent Hogan for this week's Throw-In and both ends of the hurling spectrum dominate this week's discussion. From Tipp's dominance to Waterford's demise, it's a tale of two counties so far in the hurling championship and Cummins reckons Liam Sheedy's perfectionist playbook means Tipp won't be complacent or resting on their laurels. "Tipperary are a momentum team and they have it now. The lads are making hay knowing they're nearing the end of their careers and they have a dream coaching team looking after them." Meanwhile, the panel addresses the toxic atmosphere in the Waterford set-up and wonders if there's any way back for Paraic Fanning’s management? Plus, there's a preview of the Munster football final and a nod to the weekend's Rising Stars. The faith Liam Sheedy showed in his Tipp players was repaid in buckets with their impressive seven point win over Cork on Sunday and Brendan Cummins joined Will Slattery, Michael Verney and Donnchadh Boyle on this week’s Throw-In podcast to discuss their chances for the 2019 Championship. “The intensity is what impressed most,” said Cummins. “We spoke about how fast Cork were but it’s very hard to show your speed when you don’t have the ball. Tipp knew if they brought the aggression they’d have enough to beat Cork. We’ll find out more about them now against Waterford.” What now for Cork, whom many tipped for an All-Ireland, especially the panel on the Throw-In? After questions being raised about Kilkenny during the week, Brian Cody’s men also answered any doubters with their win over the improving Dubs whose season is now on the line against Wexford. In football, the Leinster Championship began with nervy wins for Meath and Kildare while in Ulster, Tyrone got their summer underway with a six point victory over Derry before facing Antrim in the quarter-finals. Plus, in our weekly Rising Stars discussion, it’s the resurgence of some older young stars that catches the eye. The confidence and feel-good factor for Limerick shows no sign of abating after their impressive ten point win over Tipperary in the weekend Allianz Hurling League action and on this week’s Throw-In, the panel are tipping John Kiely’s players for another strong summer. Joining Will Slattery and Michael Verney on the show was Colm Keys and John Mullane though Mullane cautions about reading too much into the early part of the season. “We’ve been here before,” he says. “Remember Tipp in 2017? Galway in 2018?” Tipperary’s lack of pace is the one issue for Liam Sheedy's side though, Mullane believes. “They struggle badly without Cathal Barrett and they need to find more like him in the defence if they want to be challenging in the summer.” Meanwhile, in football, Kerry and Mayo both have two wins on the trot with Mayo looking like they're building for the future. Are Kerry though playing it too defensive? "They’re used to football served up in a certain way," says Colm Keys. "The new management will only get so far before pushing it with the Kerry supporters." Plus, it was the opening weekend of the Ladies Football League, and Galway's Sinead Burke joins Will and Michael to look back on a weekend of surprises.
