What movie would you remake? How do you win Heads Up Seven Up? Who did you vote for? (Y'know what, scratch that last one. Too close to home.) We answer these questions and more as we hang our chads on Season 1, Episode 20 of Family Matters. Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. And the best way to figure out how that happened - obviously - is to watch the last episode first and make our way backwards through nearly ten years of television.Join our countdown to number one (and our slow descent into madness) in all the places you expect internet people to be:Website: jumpingtheshuttle.spaceEmail: jumpingtheshuttle@gmail.comInstagram: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Twitter: @JumpingShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577TikTok: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Brought to you by Smooth My Balls
After 190 episodes Max, Ryan, and James can no longer avoid the shadow of one of the "worst" movies of all time and one of Alan Moore's many adaptation disappointments, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Is the assembling of Victorian era fictional characters as bad as it was 20 years ago, or does this movie belong in the dustbin of film history? This week, the Pop Culture Historians get booksmart with 2003's THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN! Also known as LXG, this 2003 Sean Connery vehicle raises an interesting question: what happens when a movie is less interesting than the chaos that created it? Topics include: the feud between Connery and director Stephen Norrington, the horrible Dorian Gray one-liners and the filmography of Sam Mendes.
Evan Tognotti joins the show to dig into 2002's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, an infamous big budget flop (or "disappointment," if you prefer Chris' classification) which had huge ramifications not just for the superhero genre and Hollywood icon Sean Connery's career, but for the Tognotti family's own personal fortunes.
A movie so bad it killed TWO different careers? The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is the movie that not only forced Sean Connery and the Director to retire but also was the movie that made Alan Moore dismiss Hollywood! But is it as bad as everyone says? Find out as we review LXG
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen marks the start of our anniversary series for this season. Released twenty years ago, it's probably best known for being the final screen appearance of Sir Sean Connery. LXG was supposed to be a unique entry in the comic genre. Instead it was met with mockery. Does it deserve all the hate it received? 2003 was very much like today in the sense that everybody was looking to adapt comic book properties into a huge movie franchise. So in continuing our Alan Moore-athon we're taking a look at The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, or LXG if you would. In Sean Connery's final live action role before retirement he leads a team of 19th Century super people as Alan Quartermaine. We've never liked it but maybe that's wrong. Doubtful though. "We just have to tread a careful line as to how we populate the book.. as we proceed with incredible numbers of different characters in street scenes and backgrounds or newspaper headlines ...it's a lot of work, but we realize we have these Jess Nevins books analyze every single panel and we know a lot of people who like that it...however if you don't know the references,it won't spoil the enjoyment of the story, it's just another layer of fictional stuff going on alongside the main story."

Despite bringing numerous legends of literature together on screen for the first time, the ultimate legacy of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen seems to be that it's the movie that made Sean Connery retire from acting. Surely there has to be more to say about this movie though, right? Of course! And we are diving into everything this movie does well. Which special effects have stood the test of time? How cool is it to see these characters interact with one another? Is Captain Nemo's ship the largest in movie history? We explore all of these questions and more as we discuss LXG. In the third episode of Jason and Robert Watch Old Movies, we head back to the beginnings of the superhero era with the smash box office miss, THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN. An ill-fated project from inception, a grumpy Sean Connery (in his last film ever) stars in a dieselpunk superhero flick directed by Stephen Norrington (also his last film), based on an adaptation of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's graphic novel about a team of superhero fictional characters in Victorian England who are tasked with stopping The Fantom from starting a world war. We go through the film's troubled history (4:42), the awesome production and the characters (19:14), and finish off the episode reminiscing about LXG when it was first released (44:34). Theme music: "Downtown" by Podington Bear. [CC BY-NC 3.0]
Patrick re-joins the pod. We chat about fantasy baseball, upcoming fatherhood, Sheamus, Hugh Freeze, Wolves, Carson Palmer, the 2006 Patriots/Vikes MNF game, LXG stories and most likely tos, Draft trivia, and being a wing-man for Davis.
Acomi and Turk182 watch the theatrical adaptation of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neil's comic book League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. A favorite of Turk's, this was Acomi's first time watching. They talk about their favorite characters, what makes them stand out, and how their time on screen it what helps carry the movie over the rough parts. While the movie has very solid makeup effects, particularly Mr. Hyde, some of the CG effects are less than; the Hyde-like monster. While not entirely faithful to the first LXG series/graphic novel, it does offer something new. Written by comic book writer James Robinson, and directed by Steven Norrington (director of the first Blade movie, starring Wesley Snipes). A great period piece action film featuring classic novel and pulp fiction characters. You should watch League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Note: James Robinson's The Golden Age is by DC Comics and not Marvel. #OMTWF #Acomi #Turk182 #KorovaEntertainment #AlanMoore #KevinONeil #LXG #DrJekyl #MrHyde #InvisibleMan #DorianGrey #TomSawyer #MinaHarker #AlanQuartermain #CptNemo #DrMoriarty Follow Acomi on Twitter at @AcomiDraws and on Instagram at AcomiDraws. A true legend has left us.Jake + Mitch discuss the near mythological career of the late Sir Sean Connery. Whether it be the definitive 007, a late career action star, a nuanced leading man, an Oscar winner, or a pop-culture icon -- the man accomplished what few ever could ... he accomplished it all.Along the way they also re-visit a not-so-bright-spot on Mr. Connery's career as they break down, 'The League of Extra Ordinary Gentlemen'. More specifically they ask:- Why didn't Justice League for English majors work?- Did Connery save it?- Whatever happened to Stephen Norrington?Every icon has a flop or two, but LXG ultimately ends-up as evidence to the power of Connery's star power. The man was simply unmatched.Be sure to give a listen, rate, and review!https://www.watchingcomics.com/*WCP is a member of the GeekDad Podcast Network*HOSTS: @Thatjakeowens + @MitchRoush

In honor of Sean Connery's life and career we're bumping up the only movie with him, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, sometimes stylized LXG for no good reason. It's also the movie that ended Connery's career. This is a bit of a long episode, and also a late episode. The world's a busy place, after all. Also we forgot to mention in "Keep or Cancel" that Connery repeatedly endorsed slapping women every now and then. So, take that as you will! Sadly Sir Sean Connery has passed away. A legendary titan of cinema. With his iconic portrayal of James Bond 007, he set the bar and was a phenomenal actor. Movies like Outland, The Untouchables, LXG, Indiana Jones and The Rock are only some of the great films he has been in. Once the news broke I had to do a remote episode with Zee over the phone to give our condolences and share our memories about the impact Sir Sean Connery had on our lives. We are huge Bond fans and this a very sad day indeed. Our sincerest condolences to the Connery family. May his light shine on us all. RIP.

So you want to make a movie about an anachronistic crime fighting team based on a comic by Alan Moore? What could go wrong? Well, if you're the director of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), Stephen Norrington, everything. Starring Sean Connery, Peeta Wilson, Stuart Townsend, and Shane West, this comic book movie rocks a great concept, but falls apart in execution. There are fun moments and ideas, but overall this film is boring. We'll explain what fell short, and also later re-cast it with our picks for a remake and tweak the story to improve it. Is LXG your favorite film? Let us know at TheCriticalBreakdownPodcast@gmail.com or in a rating and review!
