Soft spoken reading of HP Lovecraft's Celephaïs, 1920. Set against the eerie creaking of a drifting pirate ship on the ocean. Listen with headphones for the best experience.Celephaïs is a mesmerizing tale from Lovecraft's Dream Cycle, following the journey of Kuranes, a man disillusioned with reality who seeks refuge in his dreams. Once a child who imagined the radiant city of Celephaïs, he grows into a weary adult, desperate to return to the dream-world. As his earthly life crumbles, he plunges deeper into sleep, chasing visions of turquoise temples, timeless streets, and galleys that sail into the sky.But dreams are fickle, and the boundary between fantasy and madness blurs. When knights from Celephaïs finally arrive to escort him home, he embarks on a surreal voyage through time, back to his ancestral estate—only to awaken as king and god of the dream-city. Yet in the waking world, his body washes up on the shores of Cornwall, lost to the tides of reality.ASMR tales from Lovecraft, Poe, Grimm & Beyond | Unlock Exclusive Secrets from the Vault as a Channel Member or on PatreonVenture softly into realms untold, where ancient whispers stir forgotten lore and dust-laden libraries echo with lost dreams. Creaking ropes, gangplank and metallic hull of the Suur Toll museum ship docked in Tallinn. When the weather conditions are right, the wind moves the boarding gangplank to create a distinctive "ship's hull" creaking sound. Recorded by Cities and Memory.
"Whilst listening to the creaking and clacking of the historic icebreaker ship Suur Tōll, rocking back and forth in the gentle waters of Tallinn's harbour, I imagined the hugeness of the ship and the smallness of being a body next to this mass of steel, casually moved by the power of the water. "I could feel the silence of the harbour punctuated by the resonance of metal on metal, as if each creak and clack were traces of memories of the ship's ice breaking missions in the frozen Baltic Sea. I was particularly drawn to the crispness of this recording and the eeriness of the sounds. All the sounds for my piece ‘Suur Toll', from the percussive patterns of clicks and bangs through to the atmospheric melodies and textures, are sampled and modified from the original recording. "The sounds have been transformed beyond their original context; Clicks and clacks evolve into relentless rhythms propelling the ship through creaking sheets of ice. My track is an experiential piece with a spatial quality that I hope will ignite a space within the mind of the listener and a physical sense of being in this imagined place." Creaking ropes in Tallinn, Estonia reimagined by Kim[bal] - Kimbal Bumstead.

ASMR reading of HP Lovecraft's 1929 book of sonnets, Fungi from Yuggoth. A creaking pirate ship and ocean sounds have been added as background ambience to help you sleep and aid in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and ptsd. Fungi from Yuggoth is a sequence of 36 sonnets by H.P. Lovecraft, written between December 1929 and January 1930. The poems follow a continuous first-person narrative about an occultist who discovers an ancient book of forbidden knowledge. This book allows the protagonist to travel to other planets and strange parts of the universe. The journey described in the sonnets is filled with cosmic horror and alienation, typical of Lovecraft's style. Each poem reveals a new horrifying dream-vision, taking the reader through space, time, and alternate realities. The sequence is known for its blend of Petrarchan and Shakespearean sonnet forms, ending with a rhyming couplet that often provides a surprising twist. This channel is intended to provide you with a comfortable space to relax and fall asleep. I welcome all comments and suggestions for stories because this channel is meant for you, my darling. The beautiful Borders of Scotland is the location for Clare's walk this week. She's exploring the area around Innerleithen with Stewart Wilson. After a career in finance Stewart made a handbrake turn in his early 40s and became a tour guide and travel blogger. He says most visitors to Scotland bypass the Borders for Edinburgh or the Highlands and Islands but – in doing so – are missing out on gorgeous scenery and fascinating history. So today Stewart wants to share what it is about the Borders, and Innerleithen in particular, that should make people want to stop and explore. He grew up there in a family who, for generations, had worked in the textile industry. It's a sector that has all but disappeared, apart from a few high-end makers, so the area has to try and develop a new identity. History, mountain biking, and of course hiking are all a draw, including the challenging long distance Southern Upland Way which passes nearby.Stewart begins today's walk at Innerleithen Parish Church on Leithen Road. From there he then leads Clare over Leithen Water at Cuddy Bridge and, after a couple of stiff climbs through a forestry plantation with trees creaking in the wind, arrives at the disused relic of Kirnie Law reservoir. It's a great view point, which thanks to the rainy, sunny, sleety weather, created a full rainbow over the heathery hills beyond. It's a circular route that takes them back down to Innerleithen, just over five miles in total.Producer: Karen Gregor Presenter: Clare Balding

Why does this retreat feel like a horror movie? All you wanted was peace and quiet; a chance to unplug and unwind. But instead of a stress-free sojourn, you've stepped into a nightmare. The calming influence of the crackling fire is the only thing keeping you steady. The howling wind hurls dead leaves against the cabin, distorting other sounds. Dilapidated floorboards groan as you move to the window, momentarily brave enough to peek outside. Silhouetted by the quarter moon, a lone wolf releases a mournful cry into the darkness. Creaking shutters set your teeth on edge; distant thunder warns of an impending storm. Was that a scream…or just a trick of your imagination? Gravel crunches underfoot; is someone – or something - lurking in the shadows? Your mind is going numb with fear. Logic tells you to stay put; you will only become hopelessly lost in the nighttime woods. All you can do is hold on until daybreak. The ceaseless ticking of the clock on the mantle reminds you that it's going to be a very long night. --- Enjoy our 5 part Spooky Soundscapes series this Halloween season! Perfect for pumpkin carving, Halloween parties, Haunted Houses, and Trick or Treat ambiance! ---

Welcome to our '90s Vamps series! This October, we'll be discussing some of the most interesting vampire films of the 1990s. We kick off the theme with From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's vampire crime western that spawned off a franchise. Bri and Leah had never seen it before, and we were... not of the majority opinion. If you love this movie, maybe this episode isn't for you! This week, Leah and Bri dive into Let Me In (2010, dir. Matt Reeves), the American remake of Let the Right One In. While this film is pretty well regarded as far as English-language remakes go, we both find it lacking. If you haven't listened to our episode on the original, make sure to check that one out, too! This week Leah and Bri cover a relatively new release, The Last Voyage of the Demeter (dir. André Øvredal, 2023).
