Send us a textIn this full episode of 2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates, Drew and Rob break down the current state of the Giants roster heading into the 2025 season, with a particular focus on the defense and special teams. The big question driving the episode: has this New York Giants team truly improved from last season? The hosts go position by position through the defense, highlighting key players, depth battles, and how new additions may impact the overall performance of the unit.On the defensive line, the team continues to be anchored by All-Pro Dexter Lawrence, but there's been a flurry of names added around him. Names like Chauncey Golston, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, and Roy Robertson-Harris stand out as rotational linemen who bring both experience and toughness. The episode explores how young players like Jordan Riley and DJ Davidson are developing, and whether undrafted options like Elijah Chatman or Timmy Horne have a realistic shot to crack the final roster. At EDGE, the addition of Pro Bowler Brian Burns last year completely changed the look of the pass rush. Combined with Kayvon Thibodeaux and star rookie Abdul Carter, the Giants now possess one of the most exciting edge rotations in the NFL. Rob and Drew debate how deep the group really is, especially when factoring in role players like Tomon Fox and Victor Dimukeje. The linebacker group returns Bobby Okereke and Micah McFadden, who both played key roles last season, but the rest of the room is in flux. Darrius Muasau, Chris Board, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, and Ty Summers will compete for rotational and special teams roles, while Dyontae Johnson is a player to keep an eye on.The secondary is full of fresh faces and intriguing talent. At cornerback, Deonte Banks returns, joined by former Saint Paulson Adebo, slot specialist Cor'Dale Flott, and athletic depth pieces like Art Green, Greg Stroman Jr., and Tre Hawkins III. The safety group features a new leader in former Dolphin Jevon Holland to start alongside Tyler Nubin, while returning pieces like Dane Belton and Anthony Johnson Jr. round out a group with both starting potential and quality depth. On special teams, Graham Gano is back to reclaim his role as kicker after injury derailed his 2024 season. Jude Atamney provides insurance behind him. Jamie Gillan remains locked in as punter and holder, with Casey Kreiter again snapping. Return duties are expected to be handled by Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Eric Gray, both of whom offer explosiveness and reliability.Throughout the episode, Drew and Rob weigh whether this 2025 version of the Giants has enough firepower, depth, and improvement across all three phases to make a leap from last season's performance. They consider how these new pieces fit into the bigger picture of the team's direction and whether Joe Schoen has finally built a roster that can compete in the NFC East and push for a playoff spot.#giants #nygiants #nflSupport the showAll Episodes are shot LIVE with fan interactions on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, & TwitchSponsor the show at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsInterested in starting a podcast. Russell Wilson to Stay with Steelers? Giants' LB Review & Dru Phillips' Breakout Season

Send us a textIn this episode of *2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates,* Drew and Rob dive into the latest news surrounding the New York Giants and the NFL. They start by discussing the recent comments made by Russell Wilson, which indicate that his future may be set with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson expressed his desire to stay with the Steelers long-term, emphasizing his excitement about the potential of the team and his strong relationship with head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan. While the Steelers are keeping their options open at quarterback, Wilson's statements suggest he's committed to the team's vision, potentially taking him off the market for teams like the Giants that might have been eyeing him as an option.  The focus then shifts to Dru Phillips, a rookie standout who quietly made a significant impact for the Giants. Despite Malik Nabers grabbing most of the attention, Phillips emerged as one of the top-performing defensive rookies in the league. With impressive grades across the board from Pro Football Focus, Phillips proved to be a valuable addition to the secondary, ranking among the best in run defense and coverage. The Giants have found a cornerstone piece in Phillips, and his development could be key in addressing their secondary needs moving forward.  Drew and Rob also cover the latest front-office moves around the league, noting that the Las Vegas Raiders have opted to pass on Giants executive Brandon Brown for their general manager position, instead hiring John Spytek from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brown remains a critical part of the Giants' front office, and his role in shaping the team's future remains intact for now.  Finally, the episode provides an in-depth review of the Giants' off-ball linebackers from the 2024 season. Bobby Okereke continued to be a reliable force, leading the group with solid performances in all facets of the game, while Micah McFadden showed flashes of potential with his pass-rushing ability but struggled in coverage. Rookies and depth players like Darius Muasau, Ty Summers, and Dyontae Johnson contributed in rotational roles, with varying levels of success. The Giants' linebacker corps presents some solid pieces, but coverage issues and depth concerns remain heading into the offseason.  As the Giants prepare for the next phase of their rebuild, addressing these key positions will be critical. With Dru Phillips emerging as a young star and questions surrounding linebacker depth and quarterback options, the Giants' offseason plans are starting to take shape.#giants #nygiants #nflSupport the showAll Episodes are shot LIVE with fan interactions on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, & TwitchSponsor the show at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsInterested in starting a podcast. Send us a textIn this extended episode of *2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates,* Drew and Rob take a deep dive into the Giants' humiliating 30-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The crushing defeat has sparked heated discussions about the team's identity, effort, and execution, with players and coaches offering conflicting takes.  The episode examines whether the Giants played "soft," a term thrown around in postgame interviews. Dexter Lawrence didn't hold back, stating, "We played soft, and they beat the (expletive) out of us today," while Malik Nabers echoed similar sentiments, calling the performance “soft as (expletive).” Offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor added fuel to the fire, questioning whether everyone on the field was giving 100%. However, other voices in the locker room pushed back. Jon Runyan Jr. and Micah McFadden rejected the notion, instead pointing to execution and game-planning as the root of the loss. Head coach Brian Daboll insisted his team played hard but acknowledged they "didn't get the job done."  Malik Nabers didn't mince words when discussing his lack of involvement early in the game. Frustrated by not getting targeted until late in the blowout, Nabers openly vented his concerns, even suggesting that the team's struggles go beyond the quarterback. Daboll responded, emphasizing the need to get Nabers involved earlier, calling him a "very competitive individual."  The hosts also tackle broader concerns, such as whether Brian Daboll has lost the locker room and why so many former Giants players are thriving on other teams this season. From Saquon Barkley's record-setting year with the Eagles to Leonard Williams' resurgence with the Seahawks, Drew and Rob explore what's gone wrong for the Giants' current roster and coaching staff.  Additionally, they recap Week 12 NFL scores and analyze how this disastrous loss impacts the Giants moving forward. With frustrations boiling over and playoff hopes slipping away, this is a pivotal moment for the team.  Tune in for an in-depth breakdown of the Giants' struggles and what needs to change to salvage the season. Send us a textIn this live episode of *"2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates,"* Drew and Rob bring fans the latest New York Giants news, updates, and rumors, starting with a discussion on the Giants' recent kicking troubles. New kicker Greg Joseph missed a crucial field goal in the Giants' win against the Browns, sparking questions about whether the team will be looking for a new kicker soon. Head coach Daboll didn't commit to keeping Joseph as the kicker for the upcoming game, leaving the door open for possible personnel changes. Drew and Rob break down what Joseph's future might look like and how it could impact the Giants moving forward. The focus then shifts to the Giants' upcoming Week 4 matchup against their NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. With the Cowboys struggling to find their rhythm this season, sitting at 1-2, Drew and Rob analyze their chances against the Giants. The Cowboys started the season strong with a win over the Browns but have since faltered with back-to-back losses to the Saints and Ravens. The hosts dive into the Cowboys' offensive struggles, particularly their inefficient run game. With Tony Pollard now with the Titans and Ezekiel Elliott past his prime, the Cowboys are relying on a weak running attack that ranks 29th in the NFL in yards per game. Drew and Rob discuss how the Giants' defense, led by Thibodeaux, can take advantage of Dallas' lack of run production and put pressure on Dak.The Giants' defense, which boasts the second-best sack percentage in the league, will be key in this matchup. Drew and Rob highlight how important it is for the Giants to disrupt Prescott and force Dallas into uncomfortable situations. Meanwhile, Dallas' defense has been a tale of two extremes—while their run defense is ranked dead last in the NFL, their pass defense has been solid, sitting in the top 10 in several categories. The hosts emphasize the need for the Giants to exploit this weakness by pounding the run game and setting up play-action passes to get rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers involved.Injury reports for both teams will also play a significant role in the game. Drew and Rob discuss the impact of players like Dexter Lawrence and Micah McFadden returning to full participation for the Giants, while the Cowboys' injury list, featuring key names like Trevon Diggs and Demarcus Lawrence, could tilt the balance in the Giants' favor. The absence of Cowboys' starting safety Markquese Bell could leave Dallas vulnerable in the secondary, providing an opportunity for the Giants to strike. As they wrap up the episode, Drew and Rob deliver their keys to victory for the Giants. They stress the importance of running the ball efficiently, forcing Dallas to run by shutting down their pass game, and staying disciplined to avoid penalties and turnovers. Send us a textIn this live episode of 2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates, Drew and Rob dive into the latest updates surrounding the New York Giants after a tough Week 1. The episode kicks off with the duo discussing the harsh reception Daniel Jones faced from fans as he left the stadium, with many booing and heckling him. Drew and Rob debate whether this level of frustration is justified, and they agree that while Jones may not be the quarterback the team needs, the blame should fall more on GM Joe Schoen for not bringing in legitimate competition. They explore how fans, despite wanting to move on from Jones, must accept that he remains QB1—at least for now—taking first-team snaps at practice this week. Could this be his last chance to prove himself? The guys also break down the latest injury news coming from Head Coach Brian Daboll. Several key players, including cornerback Nick McCloud and wide receiver Darius Slayton, are dealing with injuries, adding to the Giants' woes. McCloud's knee injury puts him in a “day to day” or possibly “week to week situation, while Slayton enters concussion protocol. Kick returner Gunner Olszewski re-aggravated his groin and is out for weeks, and linebacker Carter Coughlin's pectoral injury will keep him sidelined for months. Drew and Rob lament the growing injury list, especially with linebacker Micah McFadden and offensive tackle Evan Neal already out for Week 1.On the positive side, the Giants have signed return specialist Ihmir Smith-Marsette. The 25-year-old from Newark, NJ, was one of PFF's second-team All-Pro returners last year, and the guys are hopeful that he'll bring a spark to special teams. They discuss his background with the Vikings, Bears, Chiefs, and Panthers and how he might fit into the Giants' plans moving forward.Another hot topic is Isaiah Simmons, who shockingly didn't play a single snap in the Giants' opener. Coach Daboll explained that Dane Belton got the nod instead, but Drew and Rob can't help but wonder what role Simmons will have moving forward, especially considering the team's defensive struggles.Next, the conversation turns to defensive star Dexter Lawrence, who made headlines by addressing the fans' booing. Lawrence made it clear that while he understands fans want to see their team win, he doesn't respect the booing. Drew and Rob break down Lawrence's comments and discuss whether the fans have crossed a line or if their frustration is understandable given the Giants' lackluster performance.Drew and Rob also review the biggest games from around the NFL in Week 1. They highlight several key matchups, including the Vikings' embarrassing loss to the Giants, the Packers' close call against the Eagles, and Baker Mayfield's standout performance in the Buccaneers' win over the Commanders. They also touch on upsets like the Patriots taking down the Bengals, as well as the struggles of rookie QB Caleb Williams in his debut for the Bears. To wrap up, the hosts review their Week 1 predictions, going over where they went right and where they missed the mark. Defensive LineThe competition for the third starting defensive line position is between DJ Davidson, Ryder Anderson, Jordan Phillips, and Jordan Riley. Dexter Lawrence and "Nacho" Rakeem Nunez-Roches are the top two linemen. Jordan Phillips, a veteran with 120 games and 62 starts, will likely play on passing downs. Ryder Anderson fits as a DE in a 4-3 setup. Both Jordan Phillips and Jordan Riley are run stoppers, and one needs to step up. Phillips is expected to get the most playing time initially, but as he turns 32, his best days may be behind him. Upgrading this group is ideal, but given their draft status, the hope is they will be serviceable as a collective unit.Backup LinebackerBehind starting linebackers Bobby Okereke and Micah McFadden, Isaiah Simmons, Darrian Beavers, Matthew Adams, and Carter Coughlin are competing. Simmons, re-signed late, pairs well with McFadden but has positional issues. Beavers, recovering from an ACL tear, is a wildcard and may contribute on special teams. Adams and Coughlin excel on special teams but not on defense. If Beavers returns to form, he might leapfrog Adams or Coughlin on the depth chart.Starting CornerbackCor'Dale Flott, Nick McCloud, and Trey Hawkins III are vying for the starting cornerback spot. Flott is the current frontrunner despite McCloud's better performance. Hawkins, who started last season, has not maintained that level and is less likely to regain a starting role. Slot CornerbackAndru Phillips and Darnay Holmes are competing for the slot cornerback position. The team prefers Phillips, a third-round pick, but he may struggle initially. Holmes, with 54 games and 11 starts, could take over if Phillips falters. Phillips will get the first opportunity, but Holmes might see snaps if needed.Third SafetyThe battle for the third safety spot involves Dane Belton, Jalen Mills, and Gervarrius Owens. Belton is a playmaker with run defense issues. Mills, a former cornerback, is better suited for nickel/dime packages. Owens, a 7th-round pick, spent most of last season on the practice squad. Belton is likely to stay as a backup, and Mills' veteran presence is valuable. Owens needs to perform well to make Mills expendable.OTAs Update: Practice 6, 7 & 8Friday's practice saw the defense dominate, with pass breakups from Cor'Dale Flott and Jalen Mills, and an interception by Deonte Banks. Dexter Lawrence disrupted the backfield and batted down passes. Darius Slayton, Bryce Ford-Wheaton, and Jalin Hyatt scored touchdowns. The New York Giants' linebacker group for 2024 presents an intriguing mix of veteran talent and promising young players. Bobby Okereke, who turns 28 in July, stands out as a key figure. Standing 6'1” and weighing 235 lbs, Okereke was a 3rd round pick by the Colts in 2019 out of Stanford. After signing a four-year, $40 million contract with the Giants in 2023, he delivered a standout season with 149 tackles, 11 tackles for loss (TFL), 2.5 sacks, 6 QB hits, 2 interceptions, 10 pass deflections, and 4 forced fumbles, earning a 78.9 PFF grade. His contract initially seemed steep, but Okereke proved to be worth the investment, establishing himself as one of the best players on the team and the best linebacker the Giants have had in years. Despite a change in defensive coordinator, Okereke remains in his prime and is expected to be a cornerstone for several more seasons.Micah McFadden, a 24-year-old linebacker standing 6'2” and weighing 232 lbs, was a 5th round pick in 2022 from Indiana. In 2023, he recorded 101 tackles, 12 TFL, 1 sack, 6 QB hits, 1 interception, 5 pass deflections, and 4 fumble recoveries, with a 65.6 PFF grade. McFadden has shown potential but also inconsistency, raising questions about his future role. As he enters his third year, the Giants will soon need to decide whether to extend his contract. Isaiah Simmons, who will turn 26 in July, adds versatility to the group. At 6'4” and 238 lbs, the 8th overall pick by the Cardinals in 2020 had a mixed 2023 season with 50 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, and a game-winning interception returned for a touchdown. His ability to play multiple positions makes him a valuable asset. The Giants also have Darrius Muassau, a 23-year-old rookie from UCLA, drafted in the 6th round in 2024. At 6'1” and 230 lbs, he recorded 75 tackles, 10.5 TFL, and 4 sacks in college last season, earning an 81.7 PFF grade. Muassau is expected to provide depth and special teams contributions, with his ceiling yet to be determined. Darrian Beavers, a 24-year-old linebacker at 6'4” and 255 lbs, was a 6th round pick in 2022 from Cincinnati but missed his rookie season due to an ACL injury. His ability to regain pre-injury form will be crucial for making the roster. Veteran Matthew Adams, 28, adds experience but limited production, having recorded 17 tackles and a 44.2 PFF grade last season with the Browns. Carter Coughlin, 26, primarily excels on special teams, having played 86% of special teams snaps over the past three years, but his defensive contributions have been minimal.Considering potential free agency additions, the Giants should refrain from signing another linebacker unless injuries occur. Bobby Okereke is a standout, and while Shaq Leonard, with his Pro Bowl pedigree, could be an upgrade, it might hinder the development of players like McFadden. The goal should be to maintain a balanced roster without blocking younger talents' growth. The 2024 linebacker group is mostly the same as in 2023. Improvement will depend on player development and adaptation to the new defensive scheme under Shane Bowen. The potential for growth is there, but it will be performance on the field that determines if this group surpasses last year's.During OTAs Day 3, Daniel Jones took snaps during 7-on-7 drills.#giants #nygiants #nflSupport the Show. All Episodes are shot LIVE with fan interactions on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, & TwitchSponsor the show at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsInterested in starting a podcast. Welcome to another episode of "State of the Team" on our podcast, where we dive deep into the New York Giants' linebacker corps and special teams units.First up, let's analyze the linebackers. Bobby Okereke leads the charge with an impressive 149 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2.5 sacks, and a solid 78.2 PFF grade. Micah McFadden also contributes significantly with 101 tackles and a PFF grade of 65.6. However, Isaiah Simmons, while showing flashes of brilliance, has seen limited action, registering just 50 tackles and a PFF grade of 68.9 in only 33% of defensive snaps. Unfortunately, Jarrad Davis was sidelined for the entire season due to injury.Looking ahead, the Giants plan to retain the same linebacker group, with the exception of Cam Brown and Carter Coughlin, who primarily contribute on special teams.Shifting our focus to special teams, Graham Gano has been reliable, converting 11 out of 17 field goals and all extra points with an impressive 82.1% touchback rate. Randy Bullock and Mason Crosby also contribute to the kicking game, albeit with varying degrees of success.Jamie Gillan handles punting duties, averaging 46 yards per punt with a touchback rate of 4.2% and 36.8% of punts landing inside the 20-yard line. Gillan's performance has improved from the previous season, with a higher touchback rate and an additional 2.5 yards in net punting average. On the return game front, Gunner Olszewski stands out with 23 punt returns for 273 yards, averaging 11.9 yards per return and scoring a touchdown with a longest return of 94 yards. Parris Campbell and Eric Gray contribute to kickoff returns, providing solid field position for the Giants.Looking ahead, the Giants plan to maintain the same special teams crew, potentially exploring options for a different returner to enhance the team's effectiveness in the return game.Join us next time on "State of the Team" as we continue to dissect the New York Giants' roster and prepare for the upcoming season.#nygiant #giants #nflSupport the showAll Episodes are shot LIVE with fan interactions on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, & TwitchSponsor the show at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsInterested in starting a podcast. “Saquon Barkley to the Ravens = SuperBowl” - Bart Scott Buffalo 14, N.Y. Giants 9 Bills What does the Bills' offense need to correct? After scoring 37-plus points in three straight games earlier this season, the Bills have been held to 20 points or fewer in two straight. There isn't just one problem to fix. While Sunday's second half was a big improvement (quarterback Josh Allen completed all but one of his second-half passes), the first half was a mess as Allen struggled with pressure (0-of-4 under duress) and going downfield (1-of-6 for 28 yards and an interception on throws with 15 or more air yards). Buffalo also needs to get more players involved. Receiver Stefon Diggs had 16 targets, and everyone else combined had 12. Stock up after the win: Red zone defense. The Giants' offense had multiple opportunities to build a big lead, but Buffalo's defense stepped up when it was needed most and held the Giants 0-for-4 on trips to the red zone. Stock down after the win: The offense, especially early in games. Slow starts are becoming a problem for Buffalo as the offense was held scoreless through three quarters for the first time since Allen's rookie season (2018 vs. the Packers). The Bills' franchise-best streak of 60 straight halves with points was snapped just a week after scoring only seven points in the first three quarters against the Jaguars. -- Alaina Getzenberg Next game: at Patriots (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET) Giants Can the Giants build off this performance? The Giants led into the fourth quarter and would've been in a commanding position had they not botched the end of the first half. But at least this team showed some fight. The Giants' defense also has played well. In this game, it shut out the Bills in the first half. We'll also see a healthier Giants team in the upcoming weeks. Running back Saquon Barkley flashed in the second half, quarterback Daniel Jones has a chance to return next week from a neck injury and left tackle Andrew Thomas might be only a few weeks off. The schedule also gets a bit easier (vs. Washington, vs. Jets, at Raiders). EDITOR'S PICKS How nine injuries from Sunday could affect the NFL playoff race: Barnwell ranks them 1 to 9 37mBill Barnwell Let's overreact to NFL Week 6: Graziano on the Lions' dominant win, Browns' elite D and Jets' playoff hopes 14mDan Graziano 'Don't poke the bear': An oral history on how PJ Walker and the Browns shocked the 5-0 49ers 43mJake Trotter and Nick Wagoner Stock up after the loss: LB Bobby Okereke. He was all over the field Sunday night, making 11 tackles, forcing a fumble and tipping a pass that was intercepted by linebacker Micah McFadden. He's the one free-agent acquisition who has been an unequivocal hit for this regime. Stock down after the loss: Game management. With 13 seconds left in the first half, the Giants ran the ball from the Bills' 1-yard line but were stopped short with no timeouts. They came away without points, which falls on veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor and coach Brian Daboll. -- Jordan Raanan Next game: vs. Commanders (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET) via  @espn  Social: Twitch-http://twitch.tv/GmiasWorld Facebook-http://www.facebook.com/GmiasWorld Twitter-https://www.twitter.com/GmiasWorld Donate:https://streamlabs.com/gmiasworld Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/GmiasWorld GmiasWorld Merch: https://gmiasworld.myspreadshop.com Background Music (Exclusive) by @ZaneAlexanderNC #nfl #gmiasworld
