We're going through our list of movies that we need to cover from our Most Extreme Elimination Challenge with a Newman/ Redford classic, The Sting. Did these con artists swoon us? Tune in and find out!!!!
This week we're hanging out with Jeremiah and laughing about dripping dip spit from your tracheotomy hole, the Great Texas Pornhub War of 2024, and drafting a more entertaining and era-appropriate method of selecting public servants (think Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, but the winner gets to be county treasurer and the loser drowns in a big stinking porridge pond). If you like the show, leave us a review and share it with a friend, and if you haven't joined our Discord yet, you can find a link to it in our Instagram bio. Enjoy the episode!
Well now that we've finished covering a great TV show, let's palette cleanse with a trash movie! Thankfully, the beginning third is actually not terrible? As a kid, Devin Mahoney wanted to be on SNL. He settled for getting a degree from Syracuse and finding a spot in the writers room at NBC, on a show called Scrubs. He spent five years there as a production assistant, writer's assistant, etc. and even wrote an episode in Season 8 called My Comedy Show. He was in the room when Bill Lawrence wrote the finale, too. Mahoney also worked on Better Off Ted, Outsourced and the Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. He moved back to Utica, N.Y., in 2018 and founded the Uptown Theatre for Creative Arts, which has given a stage to local talent -- for improv and stand-up. The Uptown Comedy Festival, which runs from Oct. 5 to Oct. 8, is the latest project. It combines improv, stand-up and sketch and will feature 60 performances from all across the United States, Canada and London. Why is that doctor giggling? What show had all its cast guest star on this show? And can you keep your own bones? We cross the finish line on these questions and more as we cover Season 4, Episode 5 of Family Matters.Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. Has anyone seen a bullseye ever? When's the worst time to get someone exercise equipment they didn't ask for? And can we finally settle the Baz Luhrmann debate? We're starting the year off right with another collaboration! We chopped it up with Zay & Jay of the Zay And Jay Show. This episode we discussed underrated shows. A couple of shows mentioned were bangers back in the day. Anyone else remember that show “The Most Extreme Elimination Challenge”, that sh*t was too funny. (4:52) Going to the movies and spending money is always expensive. But what is the limit you're willing to spend for snacks and a movie for two? Are you going to the dollar tree first? Sneaking food in with a big bag? Or are you big ballin' and paying for snacks at the concession stand? (21:06) Every year people come up with new year resolutions that they never stick with. It's like why not start today rather than waiting until a new year starts? The Spike TV (now Paramount Network) once aired the MST3k/Whose Line? like-dubbed Japanese gameshow retitled Most Extreme Elimination Challenge in the early 00s for 5 years. Time Shifters/Orphaned Entertainment's Christopher Page and I help spotlight the improv comedians who did the voices, the humor itself (including some outdated jokes and other amusing knee-jerk reaction humor), where it can currently be streamed and our favorite physical comedy skits. This week! It's episode 200!! But *how* do we celebrate such an occasion?? After hosting a live brainstorm session on Tim's Twitch channel (twitch.tv/collectionrevolution), we landed on the intriguing suggestion of covering media released when we were 200 months old — the formative 16th year of life! With that, this episode is a roller coaster! We've got comedy shows and horror movies from 2003, video games and food trends from 2011, Tim loses Brett's PAX badges, and a friend mails us a gift to celebrate 200! 00:11:40 — REFLECTIONS! Our audience answers: “What would you like 200 of?” and a wacky “Would you rather”. 00:29:00 — STUPID QUESTIONS! Something about regenerating organs. 00:34:20 — TV! Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, The Problem Solverz 00:46:48 — MOVIES! The Muppets (2011), an interesting year in comic book movies, High Tension, Underworld 00:58:45 — VIDEO GAMES! This week on It Was a Thing on TV we present the winner of our Election Day 2021 poll along with one of our favorite moments from a popular cable show back in the day and Olmec! First, it's 1984 and NBC is riding high on The A-Team so, of course, they had to capitalize on that trend. Mix The A-Team with martial arts and you get The Master...sort of. It didn't work, getting the heave-ho off the schedule after 13 shows. But it did get immortalized somewhat thanks to Mystery Science Theater 3000. Next, one of our favorite shows from the mid-2000s was MXC: Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. When the show debuted, it started with a bang...or is that an almost snap of someone's neck? One contestant called Rob Tussin tried making a glorious entrance but it almost ended in catastrophe. And he jumped right up and continued with the game! Finally, Greg (for 20 or so minutes), Chico, and Mike watch the debut episode of the Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot. Since it is a live show and we like keeping as much of the show intact as possible, you'll hear the same technical difficulties we experienced. Follow us on our socials @itwasathingontvpodcast on Facebook and @itwasathingontv on Instagram and Jack Dorsey's Hate Box.

This week, we travel all the way to the land of the rising face plant to discuss Takeshi’s Castle. The kickstarter of the “weird Japanese game show” trend, Takeshi’s Castle was re-aired, re-booted, or translated in dozens of countries before its original footage was repurposed by Spike TV to create the Most Extreme Elimination Challenge.
Reviewed by Will Schulz I have always been a huge fan of game shows with bizarre physical challenges and games. Growing up, that meant classics like Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare, and Nickelodeon GUTS. I still watch downloaded episodes of Most Extreme Elimination Challenge from time to time. This week, we discuss some of the insanity at this year's IAAPA conference in Orlando before setting about giving our very own Epic Universe it's own dangerous transportation systems. First up, Jim creates an in-park monorail-ish contraption that just so happens to routinely derail around the load/unload stations, leading to some harrowing balancing acts as guests try (and possibly fail) to make it to their next destination without falling to the sidewalks below. Meanwhile, outside the park, Scottye has instituted a guest proving ground to show that you have the fortitude to spend the day in a theme park that will most definitely cause bodily harm and/or death. Presumably you do not need a ticket to get to the turnstiles themselves, but you might need good insurance. Next week it's our season finale! Stay tuned!

This episode the crew sat down with newly released “zom-com” Dead Shack, a movie about that all too familiar situation where you go out to drink and relax in the woods with your family only to discover your neighbor is up to some weird, zombie based shenanigans that threaten your good time. The crew also talks about Thor Ragnarok and how a twelve year old is more mature than all of them, Rigby details her disappointment with the new Netflix Punisher series and then the crew veer down a nostalgic path to talk about Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. The crew also sample some questionable snack foods and soda, talk sausage roll baby Jesus, puppet based horror movie Frank & Zed, Rigby’s video game streaming, self-decapitation by chainsaw and absurd statements from Canadian politicians about the dangers of marijuana. The episode is rounded out with some Whole Hog featuring Ed Harris and Tommy Wissou.
