Upon robbing the home of his landlords, Fool notices there are unusual men being kept under the stairs in the basement floor. He also discovers a young girl named, Alice in the home as he attempts to escape from under the noses of his landlords. The People Under the Stairs is a hidden gem from Wes Craven and a movie that sometimes feels over the top in all the right ways. Everett McGill and Wendy Robie stand out as the landlords who are constantly chasing Fool throughout the movie and continue to raise the meter on how evil they can be. This is also not to mention that they are capturing and keeping people in their basement in a sectioned area under the stairs. This is a nice kickoff to Wes Craven month and a movie that is enjoyable to watch each time it's on. This week we cover a movie which David Lynch has disowned, and we discuss why that might not be a bad decision. We also discuss the things we like about big budget Lynch, and why this is such an important step on David Lynch's directorial journey. We, then, dive into the plot, and talk about the things we liked and didn't like. Finally, we each pair the film with another for a pair of double bills.Thank you so much for listening!Created by Spike Alkire & Jake KelleyTheme Song by Breck McGoughFollow us on Instagram: @DoubleBillChillLetterboxd: FartsDomino44
Silver Bullet (1985)Directed By: Daniel AttiasStarring: Gary Busey, Everett McGill, Corey Haim, the Stepfather himself.Gary Busey appreciation month rolls on, and this week we're looking at the 1985 movie "Silver Bullet", which is about a drunk uncle (drunkle), a kid in a gas powered wheelchair, and his older sister in their quest to figure out who or what has been killing people in their small town. Sounds like a mystery, but that's a bit of a stretch. IMDB describes this as: "In a small town, brutal killings start to plague the close-knit community. Marty Coslaw, a paraplegic boy, is convinced the murders are the doings of a werewolf." It's Die Hard on a train! Casey Ryback is back and this time he's…well…um…I…um…hey look, forget about all that, because the good news is that Eric Bogosian is in this movie! This week Phil and Liam hitch a ride on a hijacked death train as they scrutinize Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, director Geoff Murphy's 1995 sequel to the original Seagal action classic! While travelling from Denver to LA via train with his estranged niece Sarah (Katherine Heigl), ex-Navy SEAL Casey Ryback (Seagal) finds himself in the middle of a terrorist takeover led by disgruntled computer genius Travis Dane (Eric Bogosian), who plans to use his experimental government satellite weapon to launch a massive attack on the Eastern seaboard! Ok we'll level with you. This movie isn't great, but Eric Bogosian IS…so the boys spend much of this episode discussing the life, work and varied career of this remarkably talented renaissance man, including his stage plays, monologues, TV and film career and even his non-fiction book Operation Nemesis. Eric Bogosian forever! In ‘Anatomy of an Action Movie', the guys break down the film piece by piece, discussing what works, what doesn't and why, as well as how this film compares to its slick and stylish predecessor (directed by friend of the show Andrew Davis). But it's not just a Bogosian love-fest, as there's also plenty of affection here for the film's eclectic supporting cast, that includes the likes of Morris Chestnut, Jonathan Banks, Peter Greene and Everett McGill (as mace-imbibing bad guy Marcus Penn). The guys ride the rail to attend the ‘Die Hard Oscars', before wrapping things up with the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz, where this week Liam finally turns the tables on Phil and gets his revenge! What is it with news articles that inspire Wes Craven? Is this movie actually based on a true story? What was it about Everett McGill's and Wendy Robie's performances in "Twin Peaks" that made them great for the roles of "Mommy" and "Daddy"? Would this movie make for a great Saturday morning cartoon? To answer these questions and more Jason is joined by the hosts of Tales From The RR: A Twin Peaks Podcasts The Vern and Ryan Luis Rodriguez as they tell you why "The People Under The Stairs" is a hella rad movie from the '90s.

Why do Mommy and Daddy Robeson want a child? What's going on inside the walls of their palatial home? And why, for the love of God, is Wendy Robie not more famous? These and other questions are posed and answered (sort of) in this week's installment of 21 Jump Scare, as Bradford and Eric take a long, hard look at the sleazy goings-on in Wes Craven's underappreciated THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, featuring Everett McGill, A.J. From the darkness of De Laurentiis, the author longs to see. One shoots out in Mexico City, space fetus walk with me. Streaming exclusively on Arrow Video comes The Sleeper Must Awaken: Making Dune, and Mike n' Jamie are here to talk about the documentary the whole seitch has been waiting for! With attention on the recent adaptation, many have revisited the first attempt to bring Arrakis to life (the first to make it to screen, at least). A critical and commercial disaster, the movie is remembered mostly for burning David Lynch on the Hollywood system and setting him down a stranger, owl-strewn path. But this doc shows just how much love and innovation went into a film deemed impossible, and even the most jaded Dune Dude might find themselves looking at the desert planet with a fresh wonder. Not to mention more gimp-suit content than you can shake an Everett McGill at! ARRAKIS. DESERT EPISODE. DOWNLOAD HERE. Yes, there is a new Dune, but it doesn't mean we have to throw the old one down the toilet. Directed by David Lynch. Starring Kyle MacLachlan, Sting, Sean Young, Brad Dourif, Everett McGill, Paul L. Smith, Kenneth McMillan, Patrick Stewart, Dean Stockwell, Alicia Witt, Jose Ferrer and Jack Nance. Music by Toto. How is the world wrong about this movie? From Bryan: Disowned by a director who didn't get final cut. Hated by fans who thought it strayed to far from the book. Brushed off as a faiulre and a mess by those who haven't even seen it. I love this movie and Lynch fans should embrace it as opposed to dismissing it. The Lynchian stamp is all over this film from the design, the themes and the actors. Grab a cup of spice and let's go the weirding way. On this week's show, we're joined by special guest Brian Valiquette as we choo-choo-choose to talk about 1995's Under Siege 2: Dark Territory! How did Steven Seagal end up as a major Hollywood action star? Why is his episode of SNL regarded as the worst of all time by almost everyone? What's in that energy drink he was shilling in the mid-2000s? All this, plus the easiest job Gary Busey ever had and yeah, of course we talk about the time Seagal pooped his pants. The Steven Seagal's Lightning Bolt commercial can be found HEREUnder Siege 2: Dark Territory is directed by Geoff Murphy, and stars Steven Seagal, Katherine Heigl, Eric Bogosian, Morris Chestnut, Everett McGill and Brenda Bakke. This has probably got to be one of the most underrated werewolf movies of all time... When people think of this sub-genre in particular, they think of 80s classics like An American Werewolf In London and The Howling, but this one holds it own against those in my opinion. It had been a while since I watched this, but it made me remember how effective these films can be, and sometimes even without tons of blood and gore. Also the casting of Everett McGill as the werewolf is low key the stuff nightmares are made of. Enjoy, folks.
Back in the early 1980's, horror legend Stephen King was working on a calendar with illustrations that would tell the story of a year long saga involving a small town being terrorized by a werewolf. As the collection started to come together, King realized that his writing didn't really fit in the vignette form needed for the calendar. That's when he decided to adapt the material into a short novel with illustrations from famed comic book artist Bernie Wrightson. In 1983, the 127-page book was published as “Cycle of the Werewolf,” which because of the short length was technically classified as a novella and one of King's shortest books to date. Not long after the book was released, King began adapting the novella into a full length screenplay for a film. Initially Don Coscarelli was brought on board to direct the movie but a long drawn out argument over the look of the werewolf delayed production and he eventually left the project. Daniel Attias was then brought onto finish the film and with his direction actor Gary Busey was able to ad lib many of his best lines, which went beyond the script and many of those actually ended up in the final cut of the movie. While the film wasn't a critical hit when it was first released, the movie later became recognized as a cult classic and a beloved adaptation of King's work. In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead as we carry on with werewolf month, we're going to look for some private justice as we look back at the 1985 film “Silver Bullet”

In this episode Mark talks about one of his favourite TV shows: the American mystery/horror/drama television series "Twin Peaks" created by Mark Frost and David Lynch. Premiering on April 8, 1990, and running for two seasons before being cancelled, the series follows FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (played by Kyle MacLachlan) as he investigates the murder of homecoming Queen Laura Palmer (played by Sheryl Lee) in the fictional town of Twin Peaks, Washington. However, as a result of his investigation into the murder of Laura Palmer, FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper also reveals and realises that there is more to the town of Twin Peaks than meets the eye - especially after he uncovers that the town is also a gateway to supernatural "lodges" of reality where supernatural and extradimensional entities live and exist, who have been observing, inhabiting, and influencing the people of Twin Peaks to do things that they would not ordinarily do for years. The series has a unique mixture of many elements that run through it - including supernatural events, melodrama, surrealism, off-beat humour, eccentric characters, and distinctive cinematography - that all combine to make the series so iconic and incomparable to any other series or film. The series is superbly written, produced, and directed - and its soundtrack, composed by Angelo Badalamenti, is also unlike that of any other TV series and is considered one of the most beloved and recognisable TV scores ever made. The series also has a phenomenonal cast of actors, including: Michael Ontkean, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Richard Beymer, Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Warren Frost, Peggy Lipton, James Marshall, Everett McGill, Jack Nance, Ray Wise, Harry Goaz, and many other recurring cast members who play instantly recognisable and memorable characters that all combine to make the series one of the greatest TV shows of all time - which has a devoted cult following of fans from all around the world. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

In our last guest episode of the year, we finally check out the adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel Dune, released December 14th in 1984. It's the movie David Lynch doesn't want to be associated with, the movie that proved to studios that epic sci-fi's (that aren't Star Wars) don't make money, and the movie that launched Kyle MacLachlan's career. At least one good thing came out of it! We're joined by Jack McGorlick (Paul Noodle PhD. Candidate) to check it out. Follow the show! The Surgeons team continue to dissect director Wes Craven's middle years features in what we have dubbed 'The Nightmare Years' with this much loved classic, The People Under The Stairs
We are back with another episode for what Ryan now calls our "Halloween Spooktacular." This week we take on one of Ashley's childhood traumas, The People Under the Stairs. We reminisce about watching movies like this one way too young and question some of the movies more memorable scenes. We discuss the amazing Roach who is just trying to stay optimistic in his bleak situation and talk about Fool's next door neighbors. Which happen to be just a pack of wild dogs sharing an apartment in the inner city always fighting over an animal carcass. Sounds like a new CBS sitcom if you ask us. As always we award our best and worst and decide if this super creepy film holds up to our adult standards.
It's Shocktober at ReconCinemation and, as usual, there's a werewolf on the loose! The Boyz drop into 1985's classic SILVER BULLET and talk one of Gary Busey's greatest roles, Corey Haim's surprisingly genuine performance, and great turns from a powerhouse cast including Everett McGill, Megan Follows, Bill Smitrovich, and the one and only Terry O'Quinn. Plus, discussion about horror monsters, Stephen King's explosion in Hollywood, the influence of the film on Stranger Things, seeing the trailer on Betamax and so much more! Holy jumped-up bald-headed Jesus palomino! It's SILVER BULLET! Twitter/IG: @reconcinemationfacebook.com/reconcinemationCover and Episode Art by Curtis Moore (IG: curt986)

To keep from being evicted, Fool and Co. break into the ridiculously fortified, booby-trapped house of their landlords and finds breaking out nearly impossible. Listen as we find there's no truth in advertising, mourn the loss of Wes Craven, and celebrate out 300th Episode with champagne and cigars, all on this week's exciting episode! On this week's episode, the gang rides the rails with Steven Seagal and Eric Bogosian in the train hijacking sequel, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory! Why do we need Seagal microwaving a cake? Did Bogosian have to do that Rod Serling impression? And is Seagal really getting foiled by a Newton and a clogged fax line? PLUS: We all better go talk to the Captain. This week on Alcohollywood, we get in touch with our primitive side with returning guest Theo as we check out the stark prehistoric film Quest for Fire! A strange blend of speculative historical documentary and hero’s journey, the film follows a small group of Neanderthals (including Silver Bullet’s Everett McGill and Bunraku’s Ron Perlman) who must travel to find a new source for fire after it is lost. Along the way, they encounter apelike homo erectus, advanced homo sapiens (including a mesmerizing Rae Dawn Chong) and prehistoric animals of varying levels of terror. The film itself is a fascinating watch that’s difficult to quantify, but we certainly give it our shot. Also be sure to check out our drinking rules and custom cocktail below!
This week on Alcohollywood, we're headed back to the 1980s with the Stephen King-written werewolf flick Silver Bullet, starring Gary Busey as alcoholic-yet-fun uncle Red, who helps handicapped Corey Haim track down a werewolf that's killing the increasingly-simpleminded denizens of his small Maine town. Luckily, they've got the help of their spunky sister, a bunch of unfounded assumptions, and Corey's flipping-sweet motorized wheelchair, the "Silver Bullet"! Keep a look out for other actors who probably shouldn't be here, including Terry O'Quinn as the well-meaning town sheriff, Everett McGill as a preacher with a terrible secret (SPOILER: he's the werewolf), and Lawrence Tierney as the town bartender. Bite into our custom cocktail and drinking rules for Silver Bullet!
