How was Soul Support Systems founded? THE BEGINNING: Flo Aeveia Magdalena founded Soul Support Systems in 1994, with the help and support of Jayn Stewart and Albert Moore. At this time as well, there was a community in Vermont, called the Heaven on Earth Community. Many gatherings and retreats were held there until the early 2000's. Jayn and Flo lived in community in Vermont and would often communicate with and receive guidance from TNO, whose explanations about life, guidance on relationships, and clarity about the energetics of our systems brought a steady and strengthening presence to them. As information and guidance came from TNO about the major role the soul plays in our personal and planetary evolution, it became clear that to share this guidance about the soul was the optimal way for Flo, Jayn and others to learn, grow and connect. What Happened Next? Jayn, Al and Flo Create Soul Support Systems To provide the fullest soul-expanding experience possible, Jayn, Flo and Al created Soul Support Systems as a 501C3 corporation in Vermont to provide spiritual education to guide our human evolution. Biologisch eten is in opkomst, maar in Nederland blijft de grote doorbraak nog steeds uit. Het aantal huishoudens in energiearmoede neemt de laatste jaren weer toe. Vorig jaar leefden in Nederland zo’n half miljoen huishoudens in energiearmoede. Dat is 6,1% van alle huishoudens, en daarmee flink meer dan in 2022 en 2023. Hoe komt dat en welke maatregelen werken? Daarmee willen ze een alternatief bieden voor de Amerikaanse AI-dominantie van partijen als OpenAI en Google. Te gast in deze Technoloog is Saskia Lensink, product manager van GPT-NL. De timing is niet slecht: steeds meer organisaties en overheden zoeken bewust naar Europese, privacyvriendelijke alternatieven. Sinds eind juni wordt het Nederlandse model getraind op Snellius, de nationale supercomputer. De eerste resultaten zijn nog pril, maar de ambitie is duidelijk: een model bouwen dat op allerlei plekken in de samenleving kan worden ingezet. De ontwikkeling van GPT-NL vergt scherpe keuzes. Tijdens de training moeten ontwerpkeuzes gemaakt worden over datasamenstelling, parameters en architectuur. Ook op het gebied van functies komt er steeds meer bij kijken. De grote spelers bieden inmiddels reasoning, agents en andere geavanceerde toepassingen. GPT-NL kiest er voorlopig voor om zich eerst te focussen op de kern van het model en basistaken te implementeren als samenvatten, versimpelen of schrijven. Opvallend is de recente samenwerking met mediapartijen, verenigd in NDP Nieuwsmedia. Daarmee kan GPT-NL Nederlandse journalistieke content gebruiken als trainingsdata. Die samenwerking biedt niet alleen een rijkere dataset, maar ook duidelijkheid over het eerlijk gebruik van trainingsdata. Leveranciers van data krijgen 50% van de licentie-opbrengsten van GPT-NL, al is het nog onduidelijk wié het model dan moeten gaan afnemen. De Rijksoverheid vormt een ideale launcing customer, maar op dit moment is er nog geen deal. De doelgroep is breed. Allerlei Nederlandse overheden zouden moeten warmlopen voor een model dat zich aan de AVG en AI-act houdt, maar in de praktijk blijkt AI-gebruik daar sterk gefragmenteerd. Het bedrijfsleven vertrouwt inmiddels stevig op Microsoft-oplossingen en de bijbehorende AI-producten. Toch denkt GPT-NL zich daartussen te kunnen positioneren, onder meer door openheid, transparantie en Europese gegevensbescherming centraal te stellen. TNO investeert een onbekend bedrag in de Nederlandse scale-up Fortaegis, die chipbeveiliginstechnologie ontwikkelt die naar eigen zeggen zelfs bestand is tegen kwantumcomputers. 'Wij geloven in hun potentieel om uit te groeien tot een technologie-kampioen van wereldklasse', zegt TNO-baas Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi. Niels Kooloos vertelt erover in deze Tech Update. Fortaegis ontwikkelt zogeheten secure processing units (SPU). Dat zijn computerchips waar de beveiliging al fysiek in is gebouwd. Daardoor is er geen traditionele beveiligingssoftware of versleuteling meer nodig, wat rekenkracht scheelt. In plaats daarvan heeft een SPU een eigen 'vingerafdruk' in de vorm van kleine verschillen in elektronische eigenschappen. Naast geld, deelt TNO ook kennis met Fortaegis en krijgt de onderneming toegang tot het netwerk van TNO. Nederlandse nieuwsmedia die lid zijn van branchevereniging NDP Nieuwsmedia (waaronder BNR) hebben hun archieven gedeeltelijk opengesteld voor onderzoeksorganisatie TNO om taalmodel GPT-NL verder te trainen. GPT-NL moet dienen als een ethisch en transparant alternatief voor ChatGPT. Niels Kooloos vertelt erover in deze Tech Update. Leden van NDP Nieuwsmedia hebben volgens TNO een 'omvangrijk' deel van hun archieven gedeeld. Die bestaan vooral uit nieuwsartikelen die GPT-NL moeten helpen met het begrijpen van de Nederlandse taal. NDP Nieuwsmedia benadrukt daarbij dat het niet de bedoeling is dat GPT-NL als nieuwsbron gaat dienen. Daarom zijn er geen artikelen gedeeld die tot zes maanden geleden geschreven zijn. Het is de eerste keer dat nieuwsuitgevers op deze manier met een AI-ontwikkelaar samenwerken. GPT-NL, de Nederlandse tegenhanger van ChatGPT, is officieel gestart met trainen. Volgens ontwikkelaars TNO, NFI en SURF duurt dat tot eind dit jaar. Het resultaat moet een ethisch en juridisch verantwoord taalmodel zijn. Niels Kooloos vertelt erover in deze Tech Update. GPT-NL omschrijft zich als een 'reactie op bestaande taalmodellen' dat transparant en betrouwbaar moet zijn. Bij taalmodellen zoals ChatGPT, Gemini, en Claude, is het namelijk niet altijd duidelijk of die getraind zijn met rechtmatig verkregen trainingsdata en hoe ze precies werken. Dat leidt ertoe dat auteursrechthebbenden niet altijd weten of hun werk gebruikt is voor trainingsdoeleinden terwijl daar vervolgens wel waarde mee gecreëerd wordt, zonder dat zij daar iets voor krijgen. Nederland en Japan hebben de banden aangehaald en gaan nauwer samenwerken in de innovatiehoek, op het gebied van halfgeleiders, kwantumcomputers en 6G-technologie. Joe van Burik vertelt erover in deze Tech Update. Dat is het resultaat van een bezoek dat zeventig ondernemingen uit Nederland hebben gebracht aan Japan, onder leiding van minister Beljaarts (Economische Zaken) en koning Willem-Alexander.
