This week, hosts Tom Zalatnai (@tomzalatnai) and Teffer Adjemian (@tefferbear) bring you an episode all about mayonnaise and aioli! RAYE's second studio album "THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE." is a statement - a sprawling, maximalist 73-minute concept record divided into four seasons, featuring 17 tracks that move through jazz, big band, soul, orchestral pop, and R&B. Released independently on March 27, 2026, the album debuted at #1 in the UK, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, and features collaborations with Hans Zimmer and the London Symphony Orchestra, a surprise duet with soul legend Al Green, and intimate moments with RAYE's grandfather and sisters. It follows global smash "Where Is My Husband!" - her second UK #1 - and critics are already calling it one of the boldest pop albums in years. In this episode, Chris and Chantel Nicole go track by track through This Music May Contain Hope with special guest Jasmine Stephen - producer at The Kelly Clarkson Show and a seasoned veteran of music and entertainment television - bringing her industry perspective to one of 2026's most ambitious pop releases. From the cinematic spoken-word intro to the four-minute credit roll in "Fin.," does RAYE's big swing land? She was told her music wasn’t "good enough" for a debut, and now she’s making history. On this episode of News It or Lose It, Zweli dives into the phenomenal success of RAYE’s sophomore album, This Music May Contain Hope. We’re breaking down why critics are calling this a "masterpiece" and why the single "I Know You're Hurting" is resonating so deeply with listeners. This isn't just a pop album; it's a 17-track, four-part "seasonal" epic featuring everything from gospel choirs to the London Symphony Orchestra and even a collaboration with film score legend Hans Zimmer. We explore the journey from her public fallout with her old label to her current status as Britain’s "independent queen." It’s a story of why you should never bet against someone who knows their worth and why this music truly does contain the hope we all need right now. Spend weekday afternoons with Zweli. He keeps you in the loop with everything from music and movies to sport and pop culture. In this Notorious Mass Effect segment, Analytic Dreamz examines the track as a deeply personal support anthem following the success of “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND?” in 2025.RAYE wrote the song about someone she cares for deeply, describing it as “medicine” for her own emotions. The ballad addresses hidden pain, emotional masking, chronic exhaustion, and the pressure of hyper-independence. Through vulnerable lyrics like “You don't have to do this all alone” and the urgent outro plea “Don't give up on your life,” the song delivers direct reassurance and mental health awareness.Analytic Dreamz explores the song's live debut at Capital's Jingle Bell Ball and Montreux Jazz Festival, its emotional structure that shifts from observation to active intervention, and how it reflects growing demand for authentic, therapeutic songwriting in modern music. This Notorious Mass Effect segment by Analytic Dreamz highlights why “I Know You're Hurting.” stands out as more than a ballad—it functions as an emotional lifeline, offering empathy, spiritual support, and a clear message that listeners are not alone in their struggles.Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

A study of over 10,800 Australians age 70 and older found that people who always listened to music had a 39% lower risk of dementia, while those who often played an instrument had about a 35% lower risk Those who engaged in both listening and playing music had a 33% lower risk of dementia and a 22% lower risk of cognitive impairment Music activates multiple brain regions at once, including those tied to memory, movement, and emotion, making it especially useful for supporting recovery and preserving connections in dementia care Enjoying music at an appropriate volume encourages regular listening, helping you incorporate joyful routines into your daily life Joining a choir or playing an instrument also builds focus, coordination, and social connection. These factors may help keep your brain strong as you age
Hospitals and doctors' offices in the U.S. are inviting singers and musicians to help patients manage their pain. No one is suggesting that a catchy song can completely eliminate serious pain. But several recent studies, including those in the journals PAIN and Scientific Reports, have suggested that listening to music can either reduce the perception of pain or enhance a person's ability to tolerate it. Nurse Rod Salaysay works with all kinds of instruments in the hospital: a thermometer, a stethoscope, and sometimes his guitar and ukulele. In the recovery unit of UC San Diego Health, Salaysay helps patients manage pain after surgery. Along with medications, he offers tunes on request and sometimes sings. His repertoire ranges from folk songs in English and Spanish to Minuet in G Major and movie favorites like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Patients often smile or nod along. Salaysay even sees changes in their vital signs: lower heart rate and blood pressure, and sometimes reduced requests for fewer painkillers. He is passionate about using music “as a holistic tool to help them get better because we just don't heal their physical and medical needs, but also the emotional and the spiritual needs of patients.” Salaysay is a one-man band, but he's not alone. Over the past two decades, live performances and recorded music have flowed into hospitals and doctors' offices as research grows on how songs can help ease pain. The healing power of song may sound intuitive, given music's deep roots in human culture. But the science of whether and how music dulls acute and chronic pain—technically called music-induced analgesia—is just catching up. Researchers at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands conducted a study on 548 participants to see how listening to five genres of music—classical, rock, pop, urban, and electronic—extended their ability to withstand acute pain, as measured by exposure to very cold temperatures. They found that all music helped, but there was no single winning genre; what's important is that you enjoy it. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Church Answers does two major types of evaluation of music in church worship services. The first approach uses a secret guest to get their first impressions. In the second approach, Church Answers uses a trained and highly competent church musician to evaluate the music from both a philosophical and technical aspect. Sam and Thom look at five common issues in these technical evaluations. The post Five Reasons Your Worship Music May Not Be Clicking appeared first on Church Answers.

I LOVE MUSIC! You probably knew that already. As a DJ and songwriter, music has always been a huge outlet for me but I also love to listen to music. There are certain records that left a HUGE impact on me; Superunknown, Dirt, Parachutes, Wildflowers, Sea Change and of course OK Computer. And not to mention some of the incredible concerts I've been to which left me spellbound. Sure, I may be a BIT biased, but I believe the effects of music on our body and mind, can be deeply profound, inspiring and even healing. So what changed? Why does it appear, at least to me, and many of my contemporaries, that music has lost the cultural relevance and impact it once had on our lives. Sure you may be hooked on some new playlist on Spotify but how often do you find yourself transfixed by music? Where a song or a band piqued your curiosity to the point where you HAVE to learn more about this artist, maybe even go to their show, or talk to friends about them. Doesn't it feel like music may be losing its impact on our culture? ( I realize Taylor Swift is killing it across the country right now but I consider her an anomaly.) Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I explain why I think music has lost its stronghold on our society and why it may be because of our cultural's obsession with dopamine. I'm currently deep in the process of recording and writing my fifth record, so I begin by talking about my own process as a songwriter. It's a truly euphoric experience that fills my system with joy and even...dopamine. There's also something almost scientific about recording music. Writing the lyrics, recording all the different parts and singing the vocals and then somehow making it all sound like a coherent song. I bring all this up because I just finished listening to a new Rick Rubin podcast where he is speaking to one of my heroes, Trent Reznor. You can listen to that fantastic podcast by clicking HERE. Trent is the lead singer and creator behind NIN and it was deeply inspiring to hear not only his process as an artist but also his perspective on music and how its evolved in our culture. Back in the day, music seemed to be "the thing" that could catapult our culture in so many directions but now it feels like music has been diminished to simply "background noise" or a side dish. It's hard not to feel a bit discouraged as I prepare to release more new music into a culture that may be losing its appetite for fresh new music. Have you noticed this trend? Do you ever find yourself looking for new music or do you simply allow the algorithms of Spotify to do the investigative work for you? As always, thanks so much for listening to the show and being so incredibly supportive. I appreciate YOU! GateCrashers' Music May-hem special continues with this 3rd installment, where Dan, Jake, and Gabrielle get together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the The Front Bottoms' fourth album, Talon of the Hawk, released May 21st, 2013. CONTENT WARNING: This episode includes discussions of heavy topics such as drug use, alcoholism, mental illness, and more. Their second studio album with Bar/None, Talon of the Hawk speaks of friendships lost, ex-girlfriends, unexpected twists in life, depression, addictions, and coming-of-age themes that also reverberate throughout the rest of their discography as common denominators, but achieving its own specific tone to set it apart from other projects from the band. Dan, Jake, and Gabrielle go through the 12 tracks of the The Front Bottoms album in a more relaxed and less personal manner than previously seen in the The Wonder Years episode, reflecting Talon of the Hawk's own style as a more energetic approach to the heavy subject matters it deals with. With straightforward lyrics and a stripped-down sound, the group discusses the nature of the genre and the band, which aims to feel under-produced and naturalistic with stylistic choices such as out-of-tune vocals. The Front Bottoms are a folk punk, midwest emo band from Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Brian Sella and drummer Mat Uychich, and counting with various touring guest artists throughout their career. Beginning in 2007, after Sella finished his first year of college, the band has now seven studio albums under their belt and has become one of the most successful bands in the midwest emo genre. Today's episode is caked in stale beer, sweat, and Eagles memorabilia, as Dan and Jake talk about The Wonder Years record The Greatest Generation for its 10th anniversary. We are kicking off a series of 4 episodes for something we are calling "Music May-hem" where we are doing track-by-track conversations about 4 albums. We are kicking the month off with one of the defining Philly pop-punk scene behemoths, The Wonder Years. A band that has defined the music scene for over 10 years now. Jake and Dan go track by track to have a conversation that is longer than usual. They dive deep into their personal connections to the music and lyrics. The brothers get personal about the themes explored in the music such as stability, anxiety, and a lot more heavy topics that The Wonder Years cover with their music. It is a very raw and emotional episode so it's really worth checking the album out before listening. CONTENT WARNING: This episode includes discussions of heavy topics such as drug use, alcoholism, mental illness, suicide, and more. The Wonder Years tackle the themes of depression, anxiety, and insecurity with this record as our hosts take a track by track approach, with Dan even writing all of his notes down physically to just connect with the music and not a screen. Both hosts bring their our meaning and understanding from the work of one of the Philly scenes biggest pop punk bands. They look at just what the lyrics allude to and how relatable it is for those with similar experiences with difficulties. Be sure to stay tuned for more music episodes! If you like the track-by-track breakdown of iconic albums, please be sure to give us feedback! If people enjoy this, we will continue to tackle more genres and artists to have conversations about the music and lyrics.
This week on Transmissions, we're settling in for a tremendous conversation with Jason Stern and Don Fleming of the Lou Reed Archive. A decade on from his passing in 2013, Lou Reed's work remains as vital as ever, thanks in no small part to the efforts of people like Jason and Don. Working together with Laurie Anderson, they've helped bring a number of projects into existence, including the New York Public Library's Caught Between the Twisted Stars exhibit, which runs through March 4th, and last year's revelatory demos collection Words and Music: May 1965. Next month sees the release of a new book, The Art Of The Straight Line, which assembles Reed's unpublished musings on tai chi, music, and meditation. Both Jason and Don are, on their own, fascinating music lifers. In addition to his own bands, like Velvet Monkeys and Gumball, Fleming has worked with Sonic Youth, Teenage Fanclub, Nancy Sinatra, and many more. His work as an archivist is equally impressive, and it's found him working with the Alan Lomax, Hunter S. Thompson, and Ken Kesey estates. Meanwhile, Jason worked directly with Laurie Anderson and Lou in his final years. This talk covers fascinating aspects of Lou Reed's life, offers insight into his art, addresses controversies, and much more. Transmissions is produced in partnership with Talkhouse Podcast Network. Aquarium Drunkard is powered by its Patreon supporters. We'll be back next Wednesday with Philip Selway of Radiohead. Subscribe to Aquarium Drunkard Transmissions so you don't miss it. This transmission is concluded.
