Talk Python To Me - Python conversations for passionate developers
Python performance has come a long way in recent times. And it's often the data scientists, with their computational algorithms and large quantities of data, who care the most about this form of performance. It's great to have Stan Seibert back on the show to talk about Python's performance for data scientists. We cover a wide range of tools and techniques that will be valuable for many Python developers and data scientists. Beyond chatbots, virtual assistants, and the evolution of GPS systems, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and the tools behind making it all work are shaping the present and future world. It may feel like these technologies are in the infant stage, and perhaps they are, but #AI and #ML solutions are here to stay. Senior Data Scientist Wilson Rodden sat down with podcast hosts Liz and Marie to chat about how humans are kept in the loop of AI/ML, the common misconceptions behind the technology, and if it's really as dangerous as some people think. Is Python slow? We touched on that question with Guido and Mark last episode. This time we welcome back friend of the show, Anthony Shaw. Here's there to share the massive amount of work he's been doing to answer that question and speed things up where they answer is yes. He's just released version 1.0 of the Pyjion project. Pyjion is a drop-in JIT compiler for Python 3.10. Pyjion uses the power of the .NET 6 cross-platform JIT compiler to optimize Python code on the fly, with NO changes to your source code required. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, x64 and ARM64. How do you build and maintain a complex suite of Python packages? Of course, you want to put them on PyPI. The best format there is as a wheel. This means that when developers use your code, it comes straight down and requires no local tooling to install and use. But if you have compiled dependencies, such as C or FORTRAN, then you have a big challenge. How do you automatically compile and test against Linux, macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), Windows, and so on? That's the problem cibuildwheel is solving. On this episode, you'll meet Henry Schreiner. He is developing tools for the next era of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and is an admin of Scikit-HEP. Of course, cibuildwheel is central to this process. Issue9325: Add an option to pdb/trace/profile to run library module as a script https://bugs.python.org/issue9325. [22:52] Puedes usar tipos o no. Son opcionales. Ventajas en equipos grandes. Linter: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lint. "typeshed": Collection of library stubs for Python, with static types: https://github.com/python/typeshed. [54:46] El operador morsa no se puede usar dentro de un "list comprehension": >>> [i for i in ('a', '' ,'b') if i := i.strip()] File "", line 1 [i for i in ('a', '' ,'b') if i := i.strip()] ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax No queda otra que escribirlo como: >>> [i.strip() for i in ('a', '' ,'b') if i.strip()] ['a', 'b'] duplicando el i.strip(). El texto era https://docs.python.org/3.7/reference/compound_stmts.html#the-try-statement: When a return, break or continue statement is executed in the try suite of a try...finally statement, the finally clause is also executed ‘on the way out.’ A continue statement is illegal in the finally clause. (The reason is a problem with the current implementation — this restriction may be lifted in the future). [01:34:22] Libro "CPython Internals": https://realpython.com/products/cpython-internals-book/. Website de "Real Python": https://realpython.com/. Merece bastante la pena. También tienen podcast: "The Real Python Podcast: Python Tips, Interviews, and More" https://realpython.com/podcasts/rpp/. [01:38:52] "AutoScraper: A Smart, Automatic, Fast and Lightweight Web Scraper for Python" https://pypi.org/project/autoscraper/. ¿Hace falta? [01:59:12] Memoria escasa en un microcontrolador. [01:59:55] Final.

It's time for our second holiday special! Kat presents her coveted "Kitty Kat's Holiday Gift Giving Guide 2019" complete with a full list of things to put in jars, and Dev discusses whether or not she thinks you should get a real or fake tree and the importance of thinking about the environment around the holidays. The gals also think ahead to the new year and discuss the importance of making goals on your own time, not necessarily new year's resolutions that begin Jan 1. They play a riveting game of Will You Ever - Christmas Edition revealing all the things they don't want to do for the holidays. Spoiler alert: it's kind of everything. Let us know what goals you have for the new year by visiting us on anchor.fm/thekatanddevshow/message to leave us a voicemail! It's the holiday season, people! Time to stow away your pumpkin yard stakes (unlike Dev) and become Susie Christmas apparently like Kat and start decorating like whoa. On this first of perhaps endless holiday specials, Kat and Dev discuss their favorite holiday time recipes and traditions, and how to protect you and your children's (if you got 'em) mental health during the ever difficult to navigate holiday scene. They touch on overspending on gifts, stressful visits, passing gravy not babies, and how you should eat whatever you think is right. So please enjoy, and remember: You can kiss your uncles, and you can kiss your friends, but don't open mouth kiss your friend's uncle. Good luck! Happy Thanksgiving! Let us know if you've started decorating yet by visiting us on anchor.fm/thekatanddevshow/message to leave us a voicemail!
