"The Lake Isle of Innisfree" by William Butler Yeats I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,And live alone in the bee-loud glade. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,And evening full of the linnet's wings. I will arise and go now, for always night and dayI hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,I hear it in the deep heart's core. Moms often start the summer feeling energized, encouraged and ready to go! Then around week 6 or 7, the kids are fighting, they never seem happy and everything sucks. This is your late summer pep talk to help you get out of that funk and get through the rest of summer. If you're having a great summer, I love that for you. But if you're struggling, if you're burned out, resentful or overwhelmed, if you're feeling like your kids are out of control, then this is your episode. You'll Learn:Why this late summer with kids feels so tough (it's totally normal!)How to get what you want out of the rest of the summerWhat to do when your kid's behavior has gotten out of controlHow to fit mini breaks into your busy dayI'm giving you 3 strategies to help you reset your body, mind and limits. If you're feeling crappy about how things are going, your kid is pushing boundaries or you're just plain exhausted, these are for you.-------------------------------------Believe me when I tell you that you are not the only one feeling this way. We're in the doldrums of summer, where the initial excitement has worn off but it's not back-to-school time just yet. Whatever You've Done Is EnoughIt's easy to look around and think that other families have it easier, other moms seem happier and other kids are having more fun. But whatever you've done is enough.Whether your kids are home or at camp, no matter what they're doing, they're probably going to look back on their summer as being pretty great. Because they're not at school. Summer is magical for children. There's fun and late nights and ice cream and maybe a vacation. You don't have to create some unicorn magical experience for your kid in order to create a good feeling for them. So whatever you've done or whatever you've planned, I want you to sink into the fact that it's enough. Your kids are having a great summer because it's summer. That is enough. Late Summer StrategiesThat being said, there's some summer left to go, and you might need a little boost to help you through it.This time of the summer can be a great time for a reset. I'm sharing 3 different strategies you can try. Option #1: Mindset ResetThis reset will help you figure out what you want out of the rest of the summer and make it happen.I often talk about chasing feelings, and this is exactly that. How do you want the rest of your summer to feel? How do you want to feel while it's happening? Personally I have been feeling a bit discouraged, sad and disappointed lately, thinking things like, “This summer was wasted,” and “I didn't plan well. I didn't do it right.” So I'm working to shift to a more positive mindset. For the rest of my summer, I'm chasing connection. I want to feel really close to my kids. I'm practicing thoughts like, “I can make family time happen,” “My kids love hanging out with us,” “My kids want to be part of a family,” and “Connection happens in simple ways.”From these thoughts, I'll decide on some actions I want to take to feel that connection. Then, I'll ask my kids if they'd be interested in or willing to do those things. If not, we'll brainstorm together and come up with some new ideas. Choose the feeling you want to chase, come up with some thoughts that will help you feel that way and make a list of actions that will help you get the thing you want for the rest of the summer. Option #2: Limit ResetIf your kids seem super dysregulated or you're seeing a lot of sibling squabbles or out-of-bounds behavior, it might be time for a Limit Reset.A big thing that happens during the summer is that we go outside of our boundaries and get loosey goosey...

Mother's Day is coming. And if you've had a few Mother's Days that end with you getting into bed feeling totally wiped out and resentful, this podcast episode is for you. I'm talking all about how to create your best Mother's Day plan for a day you actually enjoy! You'll Learn:Why Mother's Day can be so hardSteps for creating your best Mother's Day planHow to process the “Mother's Day Hangover” of disappointment, resentment or sadness on Monday morningThis Mother's Day, I send my love to all the mothers. For the first mothers, the forever mothers, the motherless mothers, the childless mothers, and the not-yet mothers. I love you. I see you.----------------------Mother's Day has a way of ending up the OPPOSITE of ideal for most moms.A lot of times, moms spend Mother's Day cleaning up the kitchen after a messy breakfast in bed, followed by a lunch that's focused on their mother or mother-in-law, and then capped off by a rushed take-out dinner with all the regular bedtime routine shenanigans. Taking Back Mother's DayI'm just going to say it - Mother's Day is FOR moms!Usually, two things keep moms from creating their ideal day: guilt and not asking for what they want.I want you to know that it is okay to not want to spend every minute of Mother's Day with your kids. Getting breaks from your kids is actually super important, so if you want a few kid-free hours on Mother's Day, it's okay. You might also feel guilty about balancing how to honor your mom, mother-in-law, etc. with getting what you want from the day, too. It can be a lot of people to please, especially if you live in the same town. People-pleasing is not what Mother's Day is about, and you might not be able to satisfy everybody. Think about what you want from the day and take it from there.I want Mother's Day to be amazing for you, so I'm going to help you work through these common obstacles and make a plan and design a Mother's Day that actually feels good to you. One where you get what you truly want from the day. Make Your Best Mother's Day PlanIt is your job to figure out what you want and then ask for it. Here's how… Step 1: Decide what you wantWhat does your ideal Mother's Day look like? Take a few minutes to really think about this or journal on it. What do you really want? How do you want to spend your Mother's Day?Is it a break from kids? Time with your friends? Alone time? A visit with your own mom? A special family activity?Do you want to sleep in? Shop? Go out to lunch? Spend time outdoors? Step 2: Communicate your planIf it's going to be a day where we honor and celebrate our experience as mothers and let the people around us honor and appreciate us, then we need to figure out a way to communicate what we want.Talk to your partner (if you have one) about your vision for the day. Ask them if they think that plan will work. Are they willing to try something new if that's what you want? If there are other mothers involved, reach out to them and see what they have in mind for the day. If you're hoping for a more relaxed day, ask if you can have a shorter visit or if they're open to celebrating together on Saturday or a different weekend. If they aren't willing to change their plans or expectations, can you take your ideal day a week later? Having these conversations in advance is really, really helpful because it helps you get on the same page and make a real plan. The Mother's Day HangoverIf Mother's Day can be hard, the day after can be even harder. Even if you manage to have a wonderful Mother's Day, you'll probably still have what I call the Mother's Day Hangover. On Monday morning, when...

I took my life and threw it on the skip,Reckoning the next-door neighbours wouldn't mindIf my life hitched a lift to the council tipWith their dry rot and rubble. What you find With skips is – the whole community joins in.Old mattresses appear, doors kind of driftAlong with all that won't fit in the binAnd what the bin-men can't be fished to shift. I threw away my life, and there it layAnd grew quite sodden. `What a dreadful shame,'Clucked some old bag and sucked her teeth: ‘The wayThe young these days … no values … me, I blame…' But I blamed no one. Quality controlHad loused it up, and that was that.‘Nough said. I couldn't stick at home. I took a strollAnd passed the skip, and left my life for dead. Without my life, the beer was just as foul,The landlord still as filthy as his wife,The chicken in the basket was an owl,And no one said: `Ee, Jim-lad, whur's thee life?' Well, I got back that night the worse for wear,But still just capable of single vision ;Looked in the skip; my life – it wasn't there! Some bugger'd nicked it – without my permission. Okay, so I got angry and beganTo shout, and woke the street. Okay. Okay! And I was sick all down the neighbour's van.And I disgraced myself on the par-kay. And then … you know how if you've had a fewYou'll wake at dawn, all healthy, like sea breezes,Raring to go, and thinking: `Clever you! You've got away with it.' And then, oh Jesus, It hits you. Well, that morning, just at sixI woke, got up and looked down at the skip. There lay my life, still sodden, on the bricks; There lay my poor old life, arse over tip. Or was it mine? Still dressed, I went downstairsAnd took a long cool look. The truth was dawning.Someone had just exchanged my life for theirs.Poor fool, I thought – I should have left a warning. Some bastard saw my life and thought it nicerThan what he had. Yet what he'd had seemed fine. He'd never caught his fingers in the slicerThe way I'd managed in that life of mine. His life lay glistening in the rain, neglected,Yet still a decent, an authentic life. Some people I can think of, I reflectedWould take that thing as soon as you'd say Knife. It seemed a shame to miss a chance like that.I brought the life in, dried it by the stove. It looked so fetching, stretched out on the mat.I tried it on. It fitted, like a glove. And now, when some local bat drops off the twigAnd new folk take the house, and pull up floorsAnd knock down walls and hire some kind of bigContainer (say, a skip) for their old doors, I'll watch it like a hawk, and every dayI'll make at least – oh – half a dozen trips.I've furnished an existence in that way. You'd not believe the things you find on skips

为你读英语美文 · 第491期 主播:永清,坐标:北京I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,And live alone in the bee-loud glade. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnght's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,And evening full of the linnet's wings.I will arise and go now, for always night and dayI hear lake water lap ping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,I hear it in the deep heart's core.

Usually, as the school season picks up and we're rushing to get our kids everywhere it's even harder to make drinking water a priority, which is why I want to share three simple habits busy mamas, like you, can easily adopt to get enough water!‌Before we dive into those habits, I want to teach you an easy way to know how much water you should be drinking.‌The old formula was 8 glasses of water a day, and that's a great place to start, but the truth is that hydration isn't one-size-fits-all. Every person needs a different amount of water! Take your current weight and divide it by two to calculate how much water you need! It's that simple! That should be the baseline for your water consumption every day. However, you might need to add water for the following situations:Add 12 oz of water for every 30 minutes of exerciseAdd 8 oz of water for every cup of caffeine you drinkAdd more water if you're outside on a hot day‌Now, that you understand how much water you should be aiming for, let's set you up with a few tools to hit that goal!Water firstDid you know that we are most dehydrated when we wake up in the morning? During sleep, our bodies flush out toxins and repair our bodies with requires a lot of water! You need to rehydrate your body and set it up for another day of success by drinking water first thing in the morning!I keep a glass of water right by my bed so that when I wake up I can drink it. I like my water to be room temperature because I feel like I can drink more of it, but it's OK if you prefer it cold!‌If you don't want to drink water the second you wake up, that's fine; however, make sure you drink water before you have your morning cup of coffee or any caffeinated beverage, like a pre-workout.‌The acidity from coffee and caffeine can cause stomach issues if you drink it on an empty stomach! When you drink coffee, it sends a signal to your brain to start producing hydrochloric acid - aka stomach acid - but if there's no food for that acid to break down it can damage your stomach lining, prevent acid production in the future, and even lead to ulcers, indigestion and heartburn.‌I love, love, love my morning cup of coffee, but I always make sure it comes after water and preferable after a little bit of food so that there's something for the stomach acid to break down!‌I've also found that when I start my day with healthy habits like drinking water and having a protein-rich breakfast it's much easier to stick to healthy choices throughout the day! Water first, is the first step towards hitting your water goals!8x3 RuleThe 8x3 Rule is one of the easiest ways to remember to drink water, especially if you're a busy mom who is always on the go, like me!‌The 8x3 Rule is really simple. You just drink 8 ounces of water three times.8 ounces before a meal8 ounces with a meal8 ounces after a meal‌The reason this trick works is that it breaks your water intake down into manageable bits! If you were handed a 24-ounce water bottle and told to drink it all right now, could you do it? Nope? Me either - and I drink a lot of water! But there's something about chugging a ton of water at once that's just miserable!‌By breaking it down into 8 ounces it's so much easier to do! Plus if you use the 8x3 rule three times a day, you'll easily drink 72 ounces in a day! A few more cups of water here and there and you'll easily hit your goals!Replace 1 non-water drink a dayI know water isn't the sexiest drink in the world, but it is the most important drink we can have! I read an article where Angela Lemond, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics said water was "the gold standard fluid for the body,"‌While we may love our coffee, sodas, energy drinks, crystal light, juice, milk, etc. There is nothing the body loves more than water!‌This is why I'm going to suggest you substitute one of your non-water drinks each day with water. I know, it's not fun or glamorous, but it will help you in the long run!‌If substituting your favorite drink out for a glass of water sounds painful, it's ok to spice it up and make it fun!‌If you like having soda in the afternoon, try switching it out for carbonated water! You'll still get the bubbles but it will hydrate you instead of dehydrating you!‌If you're looking for a caffeine boost, then water is still your best option! Water will give you an energy boost without the crash that coffee and energy drinks can give you. You can try flavored water to make it more exciting!‌‌Water is an essential nutrient and without it, we can't lead healthy lives. Creating a habit of drinking water will benefit you in so many ways - weight loss just being one of them! If you're struggling to take big leaps in your health, then start with drinking enough water during the day and look at what a huge difference it makes!Mama, just because you're busy taking care of your family doesn't mean you don't deserve time to take care of yourself too!
