US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick suffered strokes and died of natural causes one day after responding to the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol, Washington DC's chief medical examiner has determined. The medical examiner, Francisco Diaz, didn't note any evidence that Sicknick had an allergic reaction to chemical spray or list any internal or external injuries, according to The Washington Post, which first reported the ruling. Still, Diaz told the newspaper that "all that transpired" on January 6 "played a role in his condition." The FBI just arrested Julian Khater and George Tanios for participating in the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. These two insurrectionists were charged with nine counts, including assaulting the late US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, as well as assaulting two other police officers. However, court documents reveal that they have not been charged with the homicide of Officer Sicknick.  As a career DC homicide prosecutor and former Chief of Homicide at the DC US Attorney's Office, this charging decision is entirely consistent with the way we generally investigate and charge large conspiracy cases that involve potential homicide offenses.
