In modern society it appears that many men – and not a few women – are seriously and dangerously out of touch with their emotions. Opportunities abound to isolate and to self-medicate. When we addicts and alcoholics begin recovery many of us find ourselves emotionally vulnerable and often immature. This series focuses on why this is and offers methods and exercises for connecting with and caring for our emotional selves. Father Bill continues interviewing therapist Laura Jones Swann, author of Men and Emotions … It's a Thing. Laura's worked extensively in the recovery field teaching at several Texas universities. She serves as the guide to a topic that's relevant both to men and women alike. In this second-to-last episode, Laura reviews the second half of her strategy list to help support a healthy emotional life. Show Notes: Men and Emotions: It's a Thing by Laura Swann, MEd. Social Yet Distanced: A View with an Emotionalorphan and Friends
Intro: The need for emotional release became anxiety for me. Sobriety and change can be enough for some, but for me, there was a burn. Deep from the belly. Deep from the heart. Pain from an angry liver made the call. I had to heal. My Story In my journey, it became clear there were residual “blank spots” in my perceptions, emotions and more than a little muddled thinking. In my recovery groups, group therapy and my therapist “du jour” all knew my past and grateful transformation. Brutal honesty as a self flaggelation tool and a neediness stitched to a desire to talk about me was the challenge. Physical limitations from abusing myself for so long makes the ticking clock louder. What are the Challenges?: Challenges must be faced in any healing journey. Environs, Self-doubt or past traumas may need an eviction notice to make room for a little joy. Lack of support, uncertainty about the future, road blocks with many flavored intention. So, how? Options are endless and as varied as musical tastes. Having a mission, a goal to gauge by and the courage to pursue it. Do I know…the Problem - do I believe there is a Solution? - You Want it? - Do the work - Get the results - Share it, Grow it. It is all about balance, and seeing through a “New Pair of Glasses”… The repeated suggestion from those in my circle, and most tv therapists kept using the word, “journaling”. As one well versed in living a story, with a history of polishing my verse for a letter home or to a parole board while in prison at 18, it made sense, and I HAD to heal. There was the purge of journaling and the craft molded into a coping skill. I am positioned to wield it like an axe, clearing the forest for that one tree. Continual writing, rewriting, breathwork, and mindfulness provide the impetus and means to heal physically with medical and alternative medicines… and voila! Some may benefit like me, by investigating Cannabis based additions or replacements. Start with a Treatment Care plan @ https://bit.ly/CDBPlan My Process Free-flowing, stream of consciousness revealed some release. I learned the art of it all by paring down the mass to a more poetic- ish form, while documenting the traveled roads. I'm not a tactile artist, though my eye for art is defined and mind open. However I can't paint, sculpt or play music. I'm not an artist or photographer. Except I am. These skills and talents are however, proven to be the method to solutions, the path, and more so, the proof. I can draw a word, and have lived a life of the good, the bad and the ugly. So I process it daily, keep an open mind and show my gratitude by leaving the messages behind in perpetuity. So Now What? It is an imperative to balance all. And I was taught “willingness without action is fantasy.” We are complicated. embarking on a healing journey and the transformative power it can have on a life. My experience is mine. Yours is as well. Find it. There are as many paths as there are people. My Hope For You Please share your own healing stories in the comments. Watch this space for more or similar. Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 622 What does it take to become a fully integrated person? Scott Jackson, joins Josh Trent on the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast, episode 622, to share about his journey of healing the feminine wound, how he has embodied integral wisdom, what he learned from meditating on death, and why we all need to choose outrageous love to create a change in the world. "You could wake up spiritually, but still be highly underdeveloped emotionally and psychologically. If you're just focused on spirituality as your path for development, then you're missing a huge part of who you are that must be developed. The thing that you're working towards is already ever-present right now and always has been. I had an email from Megan yesterday asking if I had any recordings of her friend Hal who passed on this week, Hal was one of the men at the retreat that Chuck C led that became the book "A New Pair of Glasses". Hal T got sober in 1973, he is telling his story, (he has a great sense of humor) in 2011 at the Ohio Street West Sunday meeting held in Los Angeles. Chuck C was from from Laguna Beach California, he was 36 years sober at the time of this speak. Chuck was highly regarded as a speaker over the many years he was an active member of AA, he is also a pretty funny guy. This speak took place at an unknown meeting held in Houston Texas in June of 1982. It is an excellent quality recording. He one of my personal favorites. Chuck is also credited as the author of the book "A New Pair of Glasses" in reality it is a transcript of a speak he gave at a mens retreat in 1975. Sadly the recording is pretty awful, a couple of years ago I attempted to reach Chuck's son to see if he would be willing to grant the rights to have it re-recorded and I was hoping he would be willing to do the recording (if you know who he is you can understand why). Unfortunately as hard as I tried I was never able to reach him, so on the slim chance any of you have his contact info please reach out. If you want to give the book a read it is out of print but lots of copies are still floating around. It is not AA approved literature but its really excellent http://amzn.to/2FKdg9V The "A New Pair of Glasses" audio is also available on Sober Cast but it was posted quite a while ago, if you have any issues finding it please just let me know and Ill repost it. I just added the Crested Butte Montana Conference to the events list, this is a 5 day event and it sells out every year. Bleck and Abdalla discuss the Bears sending Montez Sweat and Jaylon Johnson to the Pro Bowl and how it reflects on the overall health of the franchise. Plus, Abdalla's got some brand new jeans. He tells you the strange way he acquired them.
Summary Join Jay Alderton and Dan Meredith in a hilariously honest conversation as they dish out the year's good, bad, and ugly lessons. These guys cover it all from epic faceplants in personal challenges to laugh-out-loud moments of heartbreak resilience. Imagine learning from a broken leg, why losing can be winning, and the art of mastering your own anxiety like a ninja. They dive into the deep end of life's pool, discussing everything from the perils of the spotlight effect (spoiler: nobody's watching you as much as you think) to the joy of saying 'no' and finding your true north. It's a rollercoaster of real talk sprinkled with wisdom and a side of cheeky humour. Takeaways How stumbling over challenges can actually make you grow taller (figuratively, of course). Why taking risks could be your ticket to the life lesson lottery. Heartbreak: not just for sad songs, but also for flexing your resilience muscles. Decisions, decisions: they're not just for breakfast anymore. Anxiety and overwhelm: everyone's uninvited party guests and how to show them the door. The art of knowing what you don't want - because sometimes that's half the battle. Family time: because, let's face it, your kids are funnier than your boss. Relationship efforts: turning 'meh' into 'yeah!' Finding your path: because life's too short for boring journeys. Spotlight effect: no, everyone in the supermarket isn't watching you pick cereal. Embracing change: like a bear hug for your future self. In this episode, my friend Sherry Thomas and I are talking ‘Eddie and the Cruisers', the 1983 cult classic film about a fictional early 1960s rock ‘n roll band on the rise that virtually disappeared from the airwaves after their lead singer, Eddie Wilson, supposedly died in a car wreck following a dispute over the band's experimental second album, which was never released. Almost 20 years pass, and Eddie and the Cruisers are back on the charts, thanks to a renewed interest in ‘60s pop culture and music, and a journalist decides to go on a mission to find out what really happened to Eddie and the unreleased album. Enjoy Sherry's and my conversation about our experience with the film—first as teenagers when the movie debuted, then again recently, as adults—and our lasting love affair with not only the movie but also the soundtrack by John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band. I should warn listeners that there will be spoilers in this episode. There is an overblown stat regarding the Super Bowl that needs to be addressed. Clint Stoerner gets a new pair of boots.. but not the right pair of boots. Are the Colts preparing to trade up to the #1 NFL draft pick & selecting QB Bryce Young?!
It is the small things that matter. Usually changes happens incrementally, not all at once.

Tiffany Doyle was in a place many of us are familiar with, broken, desperate, and angry with God. She sent an email to Be Still Ministries with a simple prayer request, and what followed changed her life. Father's House isn't a bible study... it's a journey of healing... one that so many women have embarked on together. This is Tiffany's journey.
