Should you put the word podcast in your podcast title…or does it just make you sound outdated? In this milestone episode of Podcasting Morning Chat (number 365, meaning you could binge us every day for a full year!), the crew digs into two classic branding dilemmas. First up: the long-running debate over whether adding “podcast” to your show's name is helpful for clarity or just plain cringey. Then we turn our attention to cover art. Does featuring a microphone make your brand instantly recognizable, or is it a tired cliché that wastes valuable design space? Send us feedback/questions via TextIn this episode, we talk about the unpredictability of podcasting when things like power outages shut things down, strategies for running better interviews, and the importance of prepping your guests and your own questions. We dig into what actually makes a podcast “advanced,” swapping thoughts on whether it's about the gear, the content, skill, style, or just deeper expertise, and debate the value and pitfalls of reading guest bios and how to make your intros less boring. We explore why podcasting should stay fun (using Kevin Chemidlin's rebranding example), how to analyze whether your episodes are resonating through completion stats, and why being flexible and responsive to your audience is key. We also field questions about buying email lists for podcast marketing, talk about using AI for scripting and idea generation, and share advice for podcasters who want to stand out and grow their shows, emphasizing relationships and community over shortcuts. As always, we have a ton of laughs, plenty of audience participation, and the kind of practical tips and real talk every podcaster craves.Sponsors:PodcastBranding.co - They see you before they hear youBasedonastruestorypodcast.com - Comparing Hollywood with History?Mentioned In This EpisodeSchool of Podcastinghttps://www.schoolofpodcasting.com/joinPodpagehttp://www.trypodpage.comHome Gadget Geekshttps://www.homegadgegeeks.comEcamm Livehttps://supportthisshow.com/ecammEmber Community Training https://supportthisshow.com/emberDealcasters Appearancehttps://www.podpage.com/dealcasters/unlock-your-podcasts-front-door-with-dave-jackson/Video VersionChapters:00:00 Introduction and Welcome00:31 Power Outage Stories01:40 Sponsor Shoutouts04:57 Interview Tips and Techniques20:04 Advanced Podcasting Discussion30:50 Listener Questions and Feedback41:46 The Value of Longer Content44:06 Effective Call to Action Strategies44:39 Monetizing Your Content45:35 The Importance of Audience Engagement47:27 Challenges with Facebook Groups49:36 UnderThis week's awesome supporter is Greg from the Indie Drop-in Network. Rebranding a podcast is tricky. Branding a podcast is tricky. I've had several questions lately from established podcasters asking either what went wrong with their podcast rebrand or what they need to know before rebranding and in this episode we'll talk about when to know it's time for a rebrand, what you need to focus on during your rebrand and how to relaunch you podcast in a constructive way to attract new listeners while keeping your existing audience.
Everyday we become more and more aware of the power of the ✨brand✨.But what does that even mean? Why should we care? Most of us probably wouldn't consider our podcast to be a brand, but in 2025, that's a huge mistake. In this episode we'll talk about the importance of recognizing and nurturing the brand of your podcast, why branding matters and how to leverage your podcast branding in a way that grows your audience and helps your podcast make money.
Next in Creator Media spoke with Cristina Lawrence, EVP of Consumer & Content Experience at Razorfish about the march toward more TV-like seasons for many top creators, and whether this is making it easier to move ad dollars over from TV. Lawrence also talked about TikTok's future, who might grab the social commerce mantle, and whether Joe Rogan is a podcaster or a YouTuber.Takeaways:Long-Form Content is Winning the Creator EconomyPlatforms like YouTube are shifting towards structured, episodic content (e.g., video podcasts, multi-part series).Creators are becoming media networks, with brands integrating organically into their content strategies.Creators Are the New Media NetworksInfluencers now function as full-scale media companies, reaching highly engaged audiences.Brands must approach them as partners, not just ad placements. The Rise of Creator-Led Brand PartnershipsMega-creators like MrBeast, Hailey Bieber, and Charli D'Amelio are launching their own DTC (direct-to-consumer) brands. These businesses succeed when they align authentically with the creator's identity.Social Commerce is Gaining Traction, but Still EvolvingPlatforms like TikTok Shops and Amazon Live are making inroads in live shopping. However, U.S. adoption lags behind Asia, where live shopping is deeply integrated into culture.Micro-Influencers & Niche Creators Are EssentialBrands are shifting to micro-influencers for more targeted, authentic engagement.Agencies use AI-powered discovery tools (e.g., Publicis' Influential) to identify high-performing niche creators. The TikTok Uncertainty & the Future of Short-Form VideoIf TikTok were to disappear, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels could fill the gap. However, each platform serves distinct user behaviors, with YouTube favored for long-form content. Hyrox is experiencing explosive growth in cities worldwide, with participation skyrocketing to over 210,000 athletes across 30 cities in the 2023/24 season and events selling out rapidly. Their origin story stemmed from identifying a gap in the fitness market for a measurable, repeatable sport that is accessible to everyone. Moritz discussed the model his team has used for a community-driven growth strategy that focuses on organic social media and partnerships with local gyms. This approach has allowed Hyrox to educate potential customers about their new product while creating a mutually beneficial relationship with fitness centers. We break down Hyrox's unique marketing playbook, which focuses on event-centric promotion and word-of-mouth marketing over paid digital advertising. Moritz explains how their long purchase cycle is similar to buying a car, and how this has influenced their marketing approach. He also touches on the challenges of balancing mass participation with elite competition in their messaging & comms. As Hyrox continues to grow, they're now focusing on maximizing reach through live streaming of major events, seeing this as a key channel for media exposure. Most people think today's top podcasters are successful because they have a massive audience, a professional audio setup, and this seemingly effortless ability to pump out high-quality content daily. Those things can help, but when you think of successful podcasts like "Serial" or "The Joe Rogan Experience”, it's not ~just~ the audio quality or even the content itself that draws people in and keeps them coming back for more. (If that were true, then everyone with a $100+ mic who releases high-quality episodes every week would be in the Top 100 and we both know that's not the case). But, all Top 100 podcasts DO have four things in common — and one of the most important? A strong podcast brand that compels listeners to choose *your* show over others like yours. But podcast branding is much more than cover art and a catchy show title. Which is why I invited co-hosts Tonya Eberhart and Michael Carr of the top ranked Be Bold Branding podcast to join me in this episode so we can help you nail the invisible elements of your podcast brand and create a show listeners can't ignore.Ready to learn the first steps you need to build a powerful podcast brand that commands attention? How did they do this? - By building a strong sense of community around the sport. Additionally, Jose shared insights on the challenges of prioritizing and executing as a small marketing team to keep up with the surging demand, cautioning against trying to be "all things to everybody". Dylan Jones, the CMO of Podium Nutrition joins us in this episode to share the story of Podium - from a small CrossFit supplement brand to an emerging lifestyle performance brand, with ambitions to become the leading nutrition brand for Olympic athletes by the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The key? Focusing on lifestyle and entertaining content to build authenticity over traditional product marketing. Dylan talks about the importance of understanding the core "pain points" of a niche audience and creating valuable content & experiences around those points, rather than just “pushing products” like salesmen.Podium established credibility within the CrossFit community through partnerships with influencers like Matt Frazier and Buttery Bros (who also later became equity owners). We learnt that brands should focus on developing a unique personality that entertains customers, not just ‘educates' them. Furthermore, Dylan shares valuable insights on successfully transitioning from a niche market to a broader audience while cautioning against the dangers of "over-partnering." For marketers aiming to build culturally relevant brands with passionate ‘fans', this conversation is packed with practical advice and insights from Podium's journey to becoming culturally relevant.Watch the video version of this podcast on YouTube

NOTE: The LEgal talk starts at 44:00 I put out a short yesterday that got 2000+ views where my videos get around 200 views (that is 6% of my 3000 subscribers). In relational work, individuals with some sort of public-facing presence are at an advantage because people don't want to buy from a company but from an individual. They're in it to work with you, the expert - not your brand. That's what they're buying into. In many business-to-business companies, though, it's often a challenge to convince those experts to step forward. That's where someone like Emma Donovan, Co-Founder and Director of the human-centric brand studio Dapper, comes in. In this episode, Eric sits down with Emma to talk about the why and how of personal branding. To connect with Emma, click HERE. To connect with the show's host - Eric Holtzclaw - click HERE.
