Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, Alex Miller and special guest Jonathan Dunn (host of the Our Three Cents podcast) discuss The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Bilbo is convinced to burgle by a cadre of dwarves and a wizard. Starring Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Christopher Lee, Ian McKellen, and Cate Blanchett. The first in a trilogy (!!!) of movies based off The Hobbit, Peter Jackson returns to the directing chair as he tries to pad out and insert forced links to his beloved live-action Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey manages to be closest to the book while being the most elegant in popping in Lord of the Rings cameos. Its Extended Cut features more songs and character bits, including a nice young Bilbo sequence inspired by a discussion between Ian McKellen and Peter Jackson. Rather pokey at times, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a gentle start to the real meat of the story we'll see over the next two films. …oh, hello! Didn't see you there. I was just listening to the latest episode of Our Three Cents here. You won't believe it, but in this podcast, these three little boys tell stories about their favourite games of all time, and in this very episode they're talking up the games they proclaim to be their 36th favourite games ever made.In addition, they talk about some of the current games they've been playing. Fancy that, eh? This fella called Chris has been playing some weird title called Ace of Seafood that he reckons is worth a go despite 'defying classification', as well as a title called Adam's Venture which sounds pretty dreadful. Then a wee lad named Jonathan said he's been enjoying a recent remaster of Xenoblade Chronicles as well as an indie title called Hyper Light Drifter on the Nintendo Switch. The final member of the cast, Minty, says he's returned to playing the ludicrously named Tales of Vesperia, alongside a handful of other strangely titled Japanese role playing games. Then they all get quite excited about some game about Animals? But to be honest I just glazed over for a bit then.Aren't they all busy boys? Then the lists! Oh heavens, the lists!Master Minty tells a story about learning of the Nintendo franchises at the edges of the multiverse in Super Smash Bros Melee.Master Jonathan talks about the horror game Resident Evil 4, waxing lyrical about its atmosphere, and optional chainsaw controller.Master Chris praises the simplicity of a game called VVVVVV by a lone developer named Terry that was apparently inspired by the old ZX Spectrum. What a strange show?! Right, back to it.Ta-ra!— — — — —Massive thanks to our Patreon subscribers Gene Limbrick, Andy Smith, Debbie Booth, Guy Lochhead and CJ Anderson.Help support us in exchange for some incredible perks: www.patreon.com/ourthreecentsBrowse the episodes from Season 1: www.ourthreecents.co.ukWatch our video content on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3dZ2gmgJoin in the conversation with us: www.facebook.com/ourthreecentsReach out to us individually:Jonathan - www.twitter.com/jonathandunnChris - www.twitter.com/Chas_HodgesMinty - www.twitter.com/clement_boo

We are reliably informed that it's... Monday? In the absence of any real societal markers of time and date, why not use this weekly episode of Our Three Cents as a reminder that yes, time is passing, and yes, video games still exist. There's more Animal Crossing chat, naturally, as well as opinions on Doom 64, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, some eShop bargains, and… TETRIS.Chris adds Worms Armageddon to the list of games revered by all three cents alongside Fantasy Life. Minty makes the extreeemely controversial statement (can you tell it's one of the other Centurions who writes these blurbs?) that Banjo-Tooie is the best game on the Nintendo 64. Finally, Jonathan swells with joy talking about Rare's pre-rendered sprite classic, Donkey Kong Country.WORMSBEAR AND BACKPACK BIRDMONKEYSOh, we do spoil you!— — — — —Massive thanks to our Patreon subscribers Gene Limbrick, Andy Smith, Debbie Booth, Guy Lochhead and CJ Anderson.Help support us in exchange for some incredible perks: www.patreon.com/ourthreecentsBrowse the episodes from Season 1: www.ourthreecents.co.ukWatch our video content on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3dZ2gmgJoin in the conversation with us: www.facebook.com/ourthreecentsReach out to us individually:Jonathan - www.twitter.com/jonathandunnChris - www.twitter.com/Chas_HodgesMinty - www.twitter.com/clement_boo

This week on Our Three Cents we have another eclectic triptych of games including an Italian-plumber-based-handheld-sporting RPG, a 32-bit odyssey about a man’s obsession with hiding in a cardboard box, and an epic adventure involving a black knight in the darkness of the night whilst you try to forge some lightness into the world! Elsewhere, Chris spends his week killing time with Suicide Guy, and we also have a full debrief on Pokémon Sword & Shield, complete with the presentation of the 1st ever annual Jonathan Andrew Dunn Pokémon Awards. Find out which lucky critters have been selected as the recipients of the coveted JADPAs! And, more importantly, find out whether Jonathan & Chris’ school English teacher, Mr Haywood, ever got round to playing Chris’ childhood gaming creation, Dunce Goes to Hollywood? Only on Our Three Cents. What a bunch of absolute ridiculousness. Amen.

After a brief, one-week hiatus to allow Jonathan to enjoy being newly married to his lovely lady wife, the boys are back in town (copyright Phil Lynott, lyrics used by permission of Vertigo Records) to once again celebrate their love of video games. Tackling their 59th favourite video games of all time, listen intently as Jonathan gives Mario Kart 8 a big thumbs up; Minty gives a huge A-OK hand gesture in the general direction of A Link Between Worlds; and Chris gives a standing ovation to Plants vs Zombies. Link visits a Mercedes Benz dealership on the outskirts of Hyrule Market! Dinosaurs duff each other up! Lands of both high and low topography fall into disrepair! Flooded literature! A shitty ouroborous! Plants inexplicably fighting zombies! All of that, and probably a bit more: it's Our Three Cents. (I apologise for the moistness of this episode - I will never again eat chocolate raisins whilst recording. I am sorry for your ears. -JD)

Boo! Haha just kidding it’s the fellas from Our Three Cents here! One of the benefits of paying homage to our favourite games over a period of literal years means we can show appreciation for loosely related public holidays and the like. This week, instead of our rose tinted lenses we’re looking through novelty pumpkin shaped glasses to bring you our favourite ghoulish games and monstrous memories. Sit back, crack open a cold cauldron of spooky stew and enjoy the spinning of spine tingling gaming yarns (into cobwebs, the spookiest string).

Honk! This week on Our Three Cents, the chaps are all horrible. “What’s different from usual?” I hear you ask! Well, this time, they’re all horrible geese! Enabled by the sterling work of House House, Untitled Goose Game has captured all of our imaginations - find out what these three cents think of the game here. Will you be having a honkingly good time terrorising the neighbourhood? Also, hear all about Nintendo’s latest mobile release in Mario Kart Tour - is it worth your time? Meanwhile a can of time worms is opened as Chris waxes lyrical about his time on the open road with the cult classic, Euro Truck Simulator 2; Jonathan wanes chordially about his titanic adventure in Xenoblade Chronicles 2; and Minty moons melodically about the hugely successful Final Fantasy & Disney chimera that is Kingdom Hearts! Which of these 61st favourite video games of all time have you played?! What’s with all of these rhetorical questions? You tell me… that’s not how rhetoric works… Sorry?

Thursday the 10th of October marks World Mental Health Awareness day. In recognition of this, our trio tell personal stories of how videogames can be a force for good in managing mental health and periods of distress or low mood. Clone Hero, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, A Link to the Past, Alto's Adventure, Tetris, and Super Mario Bros 3. Disparate games linked here by their ability to make our triumvirate slow down, refocus, and calm. Videogames may not be the solution for everyone, but we at Our Three Cents firmly believe in their value as tools for offering escapism, structure, or soothing nostalgia when the world seems a difficult place. Much love to all listening. Be kind to one another.

It's another week at the Our Three Cents towers and the lads have hoisted their banners to celebrate their 63rd favourite video games of all time. In this week, we have a gravity-defying plumber, a time-defying gunslinger, a sanity-defying beetle, and a deep analysis of what is need to make virtual reality a virtue and a reality for current generation gaming. Meanwhile, the gang conjure some veritable computer-game Chimeras thanks to a listener question about genre-bending classic game series; Jonathan's Astral adventure is off the chain; Minty is pining for a horrible goose; and Chris has apparently started working as a part-time Samsung TV troubleshooting guru! Behold.

In just five minutes marvel as the trio chat about: a noughties pop sensation! Onions! Extreme heat! Beasts of ascending sizes! Chris misunderstanding the word ‘unique'! Then, with your podcast appetites whet, listen on for a further 25 minutes as Minty talks up his collection of purses, Chris goes on and on about a load of balls, and Jonathan reflects upon his favourite co-op experience of all time. Three lovely games that you should listen to us talk about, and then go out and beg, borrow or steal* to play yourselves. (*Our Three Cents do not condone burglary with intent to thieve… … … … … …unless it's the only way in which you can access Puzzle and Dragons, Beautiful Katamari, or Rayman Legends)

This week on Our Three Cents, the chaps tackle another eclectic tryptic of games in the form of a significantly-formative childhood gaming experience featuring a mouse; an expectation-subverting modern platformer featuring a tumour; and an abbreviation-smattered classic RPG remake featuring some running shoes! Also on the docket for discussion are Chris' veritable summer-holiday-gaming stampede of activity; Jonathan's veritable summer-holiday-gaming descent into pure unadulterated wartime bleakness; and Minty's veritable summer-holiday-gaming instigation of Chris' robo-dino-phobic beliefs! More hyphenations than you can shake a stickily-sticky stick at! Deal with it.

This week on Our Three Cents, sickness (rotten colds) abound with Minty and Jonathan delivering the episode from their respective death beds (not actually dying). Thankfully, Chris is on hand to bring the energy and enthusiasm, divulging some deeply personal pudding-related predilections, revealing some fascinatingly pedantic trivial tidbits, and mourning the untamed spirit of Kurt Cobain. All the while in their paracetamol-induced hazes, the chaps concoct the concept for a Super Crash Bros racing compilation! Bon.

This episode serves as an endearing study of friendship, co-operation and stories about caves! With Tetris fever still rife in the Our Three Cents camp, will the boys be able to stay focuses enough to recount their 87th favourite video games of all time? Sort of. But really not.

Gathered in the Our Three Cents towers, the boys dissect some revolutionary first-person video games, Chris waves the pixellated flag of an indie game, Jonathan comes to terms with his harrowing freemium game addiction, and Minty goes on a trip down memory lane, a long time ago… far, far away… (insert better Star Wars reference here). This episode is so chock full of succulent detail and rich metaphysics that an art critic would deem it ‘satisfactory’.
