Nobody's coming to save you. It's a simple phrase, but one that can mean the difference between success and failure. Elite performers know that when it's time to take action, they need to be ready to execute with precision and without excuse. Scott Mann is a retired Special Forces Officer, the architect of Operation Pineapple Express, and a leader who knows how to get results against the odds. Scott first joined Fran Racioppi after the withdrawal from Afghanistan to share how he took a stand when few would. Now he's showing us just how to apply an action first mindset to anything we set out to do. Our rainy Sunday morning conversation from the banks of New York City's East River was the perfect backdrop to break down his new book; Nobody's coming to save you: a Green Beret's guide to getting big shit done. Scott defines the churn; the divisiveness, fear-laden complexity of the world that is in our face 24/7 across our devices. He shows us how that has put us all in a trance of distraction, disengagement, disconnection and distrust where transactional relationships focus on performing for each other instead of connecting. As a leader of action, Scott gives us the cure; which rightfully so will be MESSY. Jump In with Scott and Fran as they wake up New York City, then head over to our YouTube channel or your favorite podcast platform to catch all our coverage of the 2024 election cycle and our national security series with today's most prominent Special Forces leaders. Fahncke | Acquisitions Advisor, Westbound Road Episode Summary: In this insightful episode, Marcia Riner and Marty Fahncke delve into why every business owner should prepare their business for sale, even if they never plan to sell it. Marty, who has helped hundreds of small businesses scale to over $1 Billion in revenue and facilitated $450 million in acquisitions, shares his expert insights on how proper preparation can significantly increase a business's value and readiness for unforeseen circumstances. Key Talking Points: Marty's Journey and Expertise: Marty shares his extensive background in business growth and acquisitions, emphasizing the lessons he learned along the way. His experience highlights the critical importance of always being ready to sell. Why Every Business Should Prepare for Sale: Marty discusses the often-overlooked reasons for preparing your business for sale, including the "Four D's and a B" (Divorce, Debt, Disagreements, Disease, and Burnout). These factors can unexpectedly force a business sale, and being prepared can prevent financial loss and ensure smooth transitions. Steps to Maximize Business Value: Get Your Financials in Order: Accurate, up-to-date financials are crucial. Marty emphasizes the need for professional bookkeeping and accounting to ensure your financial health is transparent and appealing to potential buyers. Implement an Operating System: Establishing a comprehensive business operating system enhances efficiency and streamlines operations, making the business more attractive and easier to transition. Owner Exit Plan: Reducing the owner's involvement in daily operations increases the business's appeal to buyers, as it demonstrates that the business can run independently. Identify Your Buyer: Building your business with a potential buyer in mind helps ensure it meets the criteria that make it attractive to future owners. Understand Your Valuation Target: Knowing your business's true value and what it takes to reach your financial goals is essential for long-term planning and eventual sale. Focus on Profit, Not Tax Mitigation: Prioritizing profit over minimizing taxes increases your business's valuation, making it more appealing to buyers. Prepare for the Long Term: Maintaining clean and profitable financials and operations for at least three years before a sale can significantly enhance your business's value and appeal. Key Quotes: "Even if you never plan to sell your business, things can happen that might force you into it." "Preparing your business for sale, even if you never plan to sell it, is a wonderful thing no matter what." "A business that revolves around you is very difficult to sell because I can't sell you." Overcoming Overwhelm: What to Do When You're Drowning in Your To-Do's One of the key insights from the podcast episode is the understanding that overwhelm is an emotion created by the thoughts in our heads. Host and Master Self-Image Coach Tonya Leigh explains that when we feel overwhelmed, we are often in a state of fight or flight, where our sympathetic nervous system is activated. This heightened state of stress and panic can make it challenging to think clearly and find solutions to our overwhelming to-do lists. To manage overwhelm effectively, Tonya suggests accessing the parasympathetic nervous system. This system is responsible for rest and digest functions, promoting a state of calm and relaxation. By engaging the parasympathetic nervous system, we can counteract the fight or flight response and regain clarity of thought. She reflects on her own journey through overwhelm and provides tools to help listeners manage and conquer their to-do lists effectively. If you've ever felt like you're drowning in tasks, this episode is a must-listen for practical advice and inspiration. People hate talking about debt, disability, death, and divorce. And that's exactly why we need to have a discussion about these four topics. In today's show, Doug and his son, Efraim, discuss these difficult subjects. Debt When people acquire a large debt, and then suddenly get a large sum of money (inheritance or a raise), should they invest the money or pay off their debt? Listen to learn why paying off all your “bad” debt may be a better move than investing in the stock market.. Disability Is disability insurance necessary in today's post-corona work environment when many folks work remotely from their house? Young people especially need to understand that if they get hurt, not only do they stop providing income to their household, but they are also an ongoing expense.    Divorce Divorce not only affects the couple's relationship, but its ripple effects are felt in many areas, including finance. Since divorce isn't something you wish or plan for, it's not something you want to have a part of a financial “plan”. Stick through the second half of the show to hear what Doug has to say about it. Death While debt, disability, and divorce may be avoidable, death isn't. Listen to hear Doug's advice about when you don't need life insurance and what to do after someone dies. Today on The Wealth Secrets Podcast, Sean Adams talks about outsourcing and delegation as means of leveraging our time. The wealthy invest in systems and teams so that they have more time to focus on more important tasks. [02:10] Time Management, Productivity, and Outsourcing [04:47] Why Business Owners Fail to Delegate [09:55] The E-Myth [10:31] Sean's Experience with Delegation [13:24] All Tasks Can Be Simplified into a Checklist [15:50] The Difference Between Effectiveness and Efficiency [19:12] The Four D's of Creating Systems Time Management, Productivity, and Outsourcing Outsourcing work is very common among the vast majority of the rich. They delegate errands so they can give more attention to high value tasks. Being preoccupied with day-to-day responsibilities leaves no room for strategic planning or decision making. Investing in teams and systems that create quality output saves a lot of time. To know which tasks you can delegate, ascribe a dollar per hour amount to everything you do. This allows you to identify which activities drives results. You should be devoting your time and effort into those important tasks and assign the rest of your routine tasks to someone else. In this way, you are optimizing your time and delivering better value. Why Business Owners Fail to Delegate Business owners often fail at delegating work because they do not know how to create an effective system or they simply don't have the time for it. The absence of a system sets your business up for failure. You don't need a large team to start outsourcing help. When you delegate without a working system, two things can happen. The first possibility is that you feel it's even more difficult to onboard someone else. In effect, you continue doing the work yourself. The second possibility is that responsibilities are turned over without any guidelines leaving the employee at a loss for what to do. Creating Systems and Workflows Creating systems is about defining the who, what, when, why, and how things get done. Write down all of your business' processes: from the simple to the most complicated tasks. A workflow is a lot like a user manual. Just like how gadgets and cars have manuals, systems must also contain all of the business' essential information. For more videos and resources, visit leveraged-life.com.
