Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We've got the usual trio in the house once again — each of us with a game that we've been sinking some (pretty) serious time into — so let's get right into the action! John gets the ball rolling this week with a little Mavis Beacon inspired bullet hell action, and gives some first impressions on Glyphica: Typing Survival. Randall takes the baton from there, and digs into his early impressions on his time with Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, after finally digging into the game in earnest. Finally, Kevin wraps things up with some thoughts on Paper Mario: Color Splash, as he continues to flesh out his collection of physical Wii U games & fires up the game for the first time. Timestamps: Glyphica: Typing Survival - 00:03:04 Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow - 00:13:07 Paper Mario: Color Splash - 00:24:42 Thanks for taking the time to listen! We are playing hella mindgames in this episode of ScaryCrit, where we get lost in the trappings of the 2000s trippy thriller The Cell. This has been an episode long in the making and it makes quite a step in our #Roadto100! Bolstered by Melle's delicious passion for this underrated gem, we explore Jennifer and Vince's uncharacteristic roles, the movie essentially being two different stories, the illustration of fantasy and darkness through the mind and the mind itself being the perfect sandbox for The Cell to play with all it's weirdness in. Note: If y'all have not ever watched The Cell, we implore you heavily to please see it before listening. Seriously!Second note: Please don't hold our mispronunciations of Hercule Poirot and Gonjiam against us. Jared got the I and J mixed up and Melle's heart was in the right place. Thank you. The (New) Joy of Gaming Podcast - Episode Twenty-Six Final Fantasy XVI State of Play, Nintendo Indie World, Redfall Hype Check, RE4 Remake Final Thoughts On this episode of The (New) Joy of Gaming Podcast, we're in that “in-between period” - just after Resident Evil 4 Remake, and just before Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Tears of the Kingdom - but there is still a lot of exciting happenings in the gaming world. Case in point: Redfall is launching next week (though the pre-release hype is a bit underwhelming). We also got a brand new Sony State of Play for Final Fantasy XVI, and Nintendo held their latest IndieWorld Showcase which included some cool new info about Oxenfree 2, Blasphemous 2, and many more interesting titles. And speaking of RE4 Remake, we still have more to say about this incredible GOTY contender, especially the final third of the game set on the Ganados-and-Krauser-infested island. We also talk about some of the other games we've been playing, like Super Paper Mario, Paper Mario Color Splash, Syberia, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, and more. And as always, our bi-weekly segments - Brandon's Physical Games Corner and Rich's Digital Picks - are here to keep you up to speed on what's new and exciting across the industry. Oh hey, I remember Level 5! No timestamps this week. It's just an entire show talking about Nintendo and its recent Nintendo Direct presentation. If you missed Saturday's live broadcast of Molehill Mountain, you can watch the video replay on YouTube. Alternatively, you can catch audio versions of the show on iTunes. Molehill Mountain streams live at 7p PST every Saturday night! Credits: Molehill Mountain is hosted by Andrew Eisen. Music in the show includes “Albino” by Brian Boyko. It is in the public domain and free to use. Molehill Mountain logo by Scott Hepting. Chat Transcript: 7:01 PMCafeFoxI lived in this apartment where we had this board on the floor of my bedroom that would make a popping noise and the woman downstairs would always get p***** off whenever she would hear it 7:01 PMCafeFoxhey andrew 7:06 PMaddictedtochaosThe Wii was a little more than an original Xbox. 7:06 PMSheekagoEvening all 7:08 PMaddictedtochaosPart of me wishes I only had one shelving unit of games. 7:08 PMSheekagoNintendo, disappointing fans since the Wii days. 7:11 PMaddictedtochaosThe Wii U was the most powerful console on the market at release, would only last for a year. 7:12 PMaddictedtochaosYeah, look at Black Ops 2 running on PS3 and Wii U side by side, there is a big difference. 7:13 PMSheekagoI loved the "For everything but Wii U" videos. 7:14 PMaddictedtochaosStill impressive when considering how small the Switch actually is. 7:14 PMCafeFoxGod, has been 10 years since the WiiU came out? 7:14 PMSheekagoNintendo is greedy. "We'll make a new console, but we're not going to get cutting edge hardware. We'll loose money on it." 7:15 PMSheekagoSuper Switch Advance U 7:16 PMSheekagoI hated how everyone would say Wii U didn't have any good games. Then Switch ported them over and people love them. 7:16 PMaddictedtochaosPart of the Switch's success is due to great 3rd party support. In order to get continued support from 3rd parties the successor to the Switch will need to be at least as powerful as an Xbox Series S. 7:18 PMSheekagoFatal Frame Maiden of Black Water is a Wii U game I wanted... just not for $50. I don't want it for the other consoles. 7:18 PMCafeFoxBreath of the wild is still gonna be $60 when Tears of the Kingdom comes out 7:18 PMaddictedtochaosBreath of the Wild has at least been on sale several times. Currently $40. 7:20 PMSheekagoThere was a Dead Space on rail shooter on Wii 7:20 PMSheekagoYes, Dead Space Extraction, that's the one 7:22 PMSheekagoOff the top of my head, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Paper Mario Color Splash, Nintendoland. I don't know if there are more that didn't get ported. 7:23 PMSheekagoSome of us don't have PS cuz we broke. 7:27 PMSheekagoThat's why we have to settle for some of the lower quality games on Switch 7:28 PMSheekagoYes, improved visuals improve games. Look at Metroid Prime Remastered. 7:32 PMSheekagoNintendo: "We don't speak about Wii U." 7:34 PMSheekagoNintendo is getting really greedy. $70 for a game on a 6 year old console... Eat a richard 7:35 PMSheekagoZelda $70: Tears of the fans 7:37 PMCafeFox@sheek And from what I can tell, the game seems like its is just a big DLC upgrade to breath of the wild 7:37 PMaddictedtochaosAt least it comes with the game. The collector's edition of Horizon Forbidden West didn't come with a physical copy of the game. 7:38 PMSheekago@Cafefox someone theorized that it might be $70 because it probably has to be on a 32GB cartridge. Those cost more to make... but I'm sure digital will still be $70 7:38 PMSheekagoPaper Mario Origami King 7:39 PMaddictedtochaosThe quality of life improvements seems like they were done with Andrew in mind, lol. 7:40 PMCafeFoxWow,
The PAPER MARIO series made it's big debut back in the N64 games, and it was one of our highest-rated titles on that entire system. But over the years, the series has lost some of it's luster as it drifted a bit from it's RPG mechanics. PAPER MARIO: COLOR SPLASH may be almost unrecognizable as an RPG, but how does it stand on its own merits? We're digging into that this week, with this colorful, gorgeous-looking adventure! Crank up your flashlights and keep your cricket bats at the ready, because this week we're travelling to foggy London to take on the zombie apocalypse with Ubisoft's ZOMBIU! This launch game set out to be Ubi's Wii U killer app, and uses the GamePad in some of the most creative ways we've seen so far; do the game's ambitious survival mechanics make it memorable, or is this just one more for the zombie horde? Episode 1899: Our article of the day is Paper Mario: Color Splash.
Part 2 of The GameCube Was Cool's Paper Mario celebration has Mike & Neil discussing the game and the franchise with friend of the show Jason as well as Kate Gray, an amazing video game journalist who's written for Nintendo Life, Kotaku, and even did a review of Paper Mario Color Splash for Rolling Stone! There's so much to cover about this wonderful game, the characters, the history, the dialogue, it almost feels like there needs to be a part 3! Maybe one day but for now enjoy Episode 90 Part 2 and tell Nintendo to make this game available digitally please. And a big shout out to Manscaped! Max, Logan, and special guest Tomas Franzese bust out their decks of cards and paint palettes to examine if Paper Mario's HD debut is one of the Wii U's lost masterpieces. Ryan and Crofton return to report back on their slow re-introduction to school during these COVID-19 times. Tune in next episode when they have a few weeks under their belt to see how things went! Ryan introduces this years promo for Extra Life, and should be a lot of fun content for the show and torture for Ryan as he is forced to digest even more Children's programming. In the Dungeons, Crofton has been enjoying Umbrella Academy Season 2 and Rita on Netflix, while Ryan gets his Avengers on in with the new PlayStation 4 game. In a bridge between the two segments, Ryan is forced to admit that Crofton is mostly right, as the new God of War book "B is for Boy" is more satirical than actual kids book (about 90% of it is FINE for kids, just need to do a little self sensor and skip a page or two). In the Diapers, Crofton has been thoroughly enjoying Child of Light as the follow up to Paper Mario The Origami King with Gwen. Ryan, not wanting the Paper Mario fun to end, dusts off the Wii U and picks up Paper Mario Color Splash. We close the show with Listener Feedback and Children's Book suggestions!
This week listen in as Marcus dives further into the Paper Mario series with Color Splash. He also discusses Curse of the Moon 2. Also, listen to his thoughts on The Old Guard also on netflix. They also discuss how bad The Cloverfield Paradox was. This week on Our Three Cents, Jonathan recalls how he lived out his best fantasy life in deepest Africa, Chris descends into a hypnotic claustrophobic nightmare to pass some time, and find out why Color Splash is the Titanic of the Paper Mario series. Elsewhere, Jonathan has gone on an Indie Game spree tackling a series of games including a small, bespectacled scientist, a big ol’ face-rock and electrified tentacled atrocities. Chris had a few small weeps experiencing an Old Man’s Journey and Minty has been having a wonderfully idyllic time randomly naming a variety of chickens!

The bosses in Paper Mario Color Splash are a problem, but how could we fix it? It’s easy to talk about why boss battles with the Koopalings here are bad, but let’s also see where these fights could have been better within the story and gameplay. So today, let’s set the card battle system aside, forget the Sticker Star 2 comparisons, and just see how this aspect of the controversial title can be improved - on this episode of Boss Battle Breakdown!

Kept you waiting, didn't we? The editing wormhole has finally closed for us as the last "lost" show, our E3 2016 recording back when we really didn't know what the NX was, and when Paper Mario Color Splash was still controversial instead of being y'know, good. We rant, we rave, and E3 still can't do press events. Go figure.
The plot thickens for Kaz in Uncharted, Kyle gushes over Paper Mario: Color Splash and William get a brand "new" console. Then William finishes off by loading his save point on Final Fantasy V, the most overlooked game in the series. Come pause with us!

Paper Mario is back! Unfortunately, so are stickers. They're just called cards now. How does the latest entry in Mario's 2D encroaching on 3D RPG series measure up? Pay no attention to John's opening words in this episode, because our test recording turned out good enough to become the podcast's official debut, making this number two in line. With a more concrete template worked out, Chris and John share both their takes on possibly the last big Wii U exclusive, Paper Mario: Color Splash, John gives spoiler-free thoughts on Doctor Strange and details his initial impressions for Watch Dogs 2, and Chris details both what drives him up the wall and keeps him coming back with Dragon Ball Super's Future Trunks arc, with some light spoilers to go along with his reasons. Timestamps: 2:56 - Paper Mario: Color Splash 22:05 - Watch Dogs 2 32:22 - Doctor Strange 40:23 - Dragon Ball Super (Future Trunks arc)

Happy Thanksgiving to our American listeners and Happy November to everyone else! We've got just the audible treat for those with some free time this weekend! It's episode 95, Mall Lemmings! Inside you'll start with Joe (Ninsage) and Stephen (DrFinkelstein) discussing what they've been playing as of late. Joe just wrapped up Chibi Robo: Zip Lash. Learn how he found a way to enjoy it! Then he describes how he's enjoying the co-op mode in the Wii U hit, Yoshi's Woolly World. Lastly, It was a bit too premature to discuss some Pokemon Sun and Moon but Joe does have quite an intriguing tale to tell regarding his midnight launch for the game. Afterwards, Stephen divulges more about what draws in him into Paper Mario: Color Splash now that he's really had his time to sink his teeth into it. He's also been playing some Picross 3D Round 2… probably a good thing for a Picross-maniac like him. The duo discuss some quick My Nintendo woes before taking a quick break. Upon their return, the guys tackle this week's main topic. "Making Time For Gaming In Your Adult Life". How do they manage it? How could they manage it better? Despite their struggles, the guys managed to schedule a full length episode and they hope you enjoy! Negative World's site owner and operator, Zero provides the intro and outro. Break music featured a jazzy tune from Picross 3D Round 2. Full list of episodes

Ryan and Matt "Sweeney Sweety" Amberg are back and bouncing about Rent: High School Edition, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 2: The End, and Shamading's The Visit before they admit to the group that they played the final episode of Tales from the Borderlands, Superhot, Destiny, Rocket League, and the end of Oddworld: New and Tasty (meh, I've seen odder).
