An L.A. private eye investigating the murder of a local businessman uncovers a corrupt world of sex, money, and violence. Also, every major American cartoon character from the 20th century shows up at some point. Heavily influenced by films like Chinatown and The Big Sleep and featuring special effects that fully realize the potential of earlier films like Anchors Away and Mary Poppins that mix live acting and animation, this might be the greatest film of the 1980s. (This episode is a little bit of a cheat--we've both seen this film many, many times, but we needed a fill-in episode, and as this was playing in a theater near us this summer, we jumped at the chance to cover it.) Starring Bob Hoskins, Christopher Lloydd, Charles Fleischer, Kathleen Turner, Joanna Cassidy, and Stubby Kaye. Directed by Robet Zemeckis. Written by Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman.

Walt Disney Pictures purchased the film rights for the film's story in 1981. Price and Seaman wrote two drafts of the script before Disney brought in executive producer Steven Spielberg and his production company, Amblin Entertainment. Zemeckis was brought on to direct the film while Canadian animator Richard Williams was hired to supervise the animation sequences. Production was moved from Los Angeles to Elstree Studios in England to accommodate Williams and his group of animators. While filming, the production budget began to rapidly expand and the shooting schedule ran longer than expected. The film was released through Disney's Touchstone Pictures banner on June 22, 1988. It received acclaim from critics, who praised its visuals, humor, writing, and performances (particularly Hoskins), with critics and audiences considering it to be "groundbreaking". It grossed over $351 million worldwide, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 1988. It brought a renewed interest in the Golden age of American animation, spearheading modern American animation and the Disney Renaissance.[7] It won three Academy Awards for Best Film Editing, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects and received a Special Achievement Academy Award for its animation direction by Williams. In 2016, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".[8][9]

Hey kids, remember Disney's OTHER film noir comedy of the 80s? Well, Dallin and Amanda certainly do. This episode, they talk 1983's Trenchcoat, a film in which Margot Kidder plays the most neurotic gumshoe you've ever seen. Along with the film, they talk topics such as the female-led comedies of the early 80s, the underappreciated screen presence of Robert Hays, and the... inconsistent careers of screenwriters Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman. Slap on your fedora and get ready to grill some perps, it's an all-new Lost in the Vault! Wanna support the show? Welcome to the Holiday Shows. This Episode is How The Grinch Stole Christmas  Chris’s last pick of the season. We will be going through our other movie picks as well and you the listen will get to chose through our battle rounds on what is next.  How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (also known as Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and simply The Grinch in the UK) is a 2000 American Christmas Fantasy Comedy Film directed by Ron Howard and written by Jeffery Price and Peter S. Seaman. Based on Dr. Seuss’s 1957 Book of the same name, the film was the first Dr. Seuss book to be Adapted into a full-length feature film. The film stars Jim Carry in the title role, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Boill Irwin, Molly Shannon, and Taylor Momsen. Because the film is based on a children's picture book, many additions were made to the storyline to bring it up to feature-length, including some information about the backstory of the title character and reworking the story's minor character Cindy Lou Who as a main character. Most of the rhymes that were used in the book were also used in the film, though some of the lines were to some degree changed and several new rhymes were put in. The film also borrowed some music and character elements (such as the Grinch's green skin tone) that originated in the 1966 animated Television special. Produced by Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! was released by Universal Pictures on November 17, 2000 to mixed reviews from critics yet grossed over $345 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest grossing film of 2000 and was originally the second highest-grossing holiday film of all-time behind Home Alone (1990).
