Time to get weird and wiggy and wondrous. Our guest this week is Zin E. Rocklyn, author of many short fictions, and her (very) recently award-winning novella Flowers for the Sea.It's an afro-speculative blend of science fiction, horror, fantasy, myth, dystopia, pre-history and apocalypse – all confined to a single boat in a big, bad ocean, and all told within 100 pages.Phew – it's dense!Zin and I cover a lot this week. We barrel through her the twin crises of reproductive rights and climate change – and look at how inequality is a huge component of both. We talk about writing the body, evoking smell and how pain has many uses. That sounds dark. It is. But there is also light, including an unexpected reference to an old British sitcom, the juxtaposition of Zin and Hyacinth Bouquet made me laugh!!Enjoy this one.Flowers for the Sea was released October 2021, by Tor Other books mentioned in the episode include:We Are Here to Hurt Each Other (2022), by Paula D. “I would say you're never too old. Never too old. Go ahead,” says Rocklyn Grace. Rocklyn, a former writing and research professor, spent many years focused on teaching others to write, rather than her own creative writing. Now the author of the Remnant Chronicles, Rocklyn is finally realizing her dream, proving that it's never too late. With a career in academia, Rocklyn could not focus on her writing. Between work and the general obstacles of life, Rocklyn always had to put her personal projects aside. However, Rocklyn's dream eventually became unavoidable as she became increasingly driven to write. Although it isn't easy, Rocklyn proves that you can achieve your goals at any age as long as you're willing to try. Tune into this week's episode of Move Forward Anyway for an inspiring conversation on going after what you want. Learn more about Rocklyn's storytelling journey, her experience with Jeff's Dream Accelerator, and why her true goal is to make the world a kinder place. Quotes • “I would say you're never too old. Never too old. Go ahead.” (6:04-6:09) | Rocklyn) • “It's never too late to get in there and try. Maybe you have to adjust your dream a little bit, but do it. People need your dream.” (6:25-6:34) | Rocklyn) • “I had to learn to step back and just laugh at myself a little and say, “You know what, even if it's delayed, it will still get published.” (32:33-32:43) | Rocklyn) • “I just want to be able to tell them that they're loved, they are seen, and that God loves them.” (38:00-38:06) | Rocklyn) • “If you're listening, contact Jeff and get some clarity. And let us help bring this dream into fruition because your dream is important. I love you and we want your dream.” (40:22-40:37 | Rocklyn) Links Get in touch with Rocklyn Grace: Website: https://www.rocklyngrace.com/ Instagram: https://instagram.com/rocklyn_grace_remnant_writer?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Get in touch with host Jeff Meyer: www.jeffmeyer.org Schedule a Discovery Call with Jeff: https://go.oncehub.com/DreamAcceleratorDiscoveryCall Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

Hatred is not strictly an unproductive, seemingly unnatural emotion. Sometimes hate is understandable, and even a motivation, if directed against an injustice or imbalance. Unfortunately, we too often see it deployed in service of maintaining injustices or imbalances, by powerful people who want to keep--or grow--their wealth and influence. This episode opens with the relatable hatred felt by the character Iraxi, from Zin E. Rocklyn's novella Flowers for the Sea, and ends with prejudiced, manipulated, and ultimately violent hatred found in the 1976 film Canoa: A Shameful Memory. For episode sources, scripts and more, visit healthyfears.com. If you google "Rocklyn in Carnkie", the first articles that appear mention cruel and senseless murders committed in 2000. The views and B&Bs in the sleepy, scenic west Cornwall village take second place. The villagers had seldom seen a police officer in the area, if at all. There was never any need for one to visit, let alone patrol — it was that kind of place. Winner of the 1959 Newbery Medal, The Witch of Blackbird Pond is still widely read and taught in schools today. This book was also a childhood favorite of actress Laura Rocklyn, in a childhood that was filled with books and literary magic. We chat about some of that magic, including the glories of a window seat for reading, searching cupboards for Narnia, and how certain books can immediately make you feel safe and right at home. Plus, some very fun American Girl chat. You can learn more more about Laura and her work at www.laurarocklyn.com and you can follow her on Instagram @Laura_Rocklyn. Rocklyn Homes is committed to building homes that Atlanta buyers will love today and for years to come. They take pride in providing quality-built homes with desirable features in great locations, all while ensuring buyers receive an outstanding value. TR Adams, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Rocklyn Homes joins us on today's All About Real Estate episode to talk more about being one of the top five homebuilders in Atlanta and explains why they choose to build Right Choice™ homes. Adams is a real estate expert with over 30 years of experience. Twenty of those years were spent in new home sales, marketing, construction and product development. Adams attributes his successful career and extensive knowledge to the training and coaching he's received throughout the various aspects of the industry. Rocklyn Homes is a family owned company that prides itself on producing every home as they would their very own. The company was created with a unique vision and passion to build a beautiful, well-constructed home at a reasonable price, and blend spacious interiors with an aesthetically pleasing exterior. “There are three generations working at Rocklyn Homes and not many builders and companies can say that these days,” states Adams. “Rocklyn Homes' success and reputation for being a top builder is a testament to everyone in the company. We've gotten this far because of the amazing people that work for us and the great systems we have in place.” Rocklyn Homes builds across metro Atlanta in a variety of neighborhoods from Decatur and DeKalb to Gwinnett, Fulton and Rockdale. Ellis Pointe in Rockdale is a new and popular townhome community less than five minutes from Stonecrest Mall, Wal-Mart and Interest 20. Prices for the award-winning home plans in this community begin at the very affordable and low $200,000s. The majority of product produced is townhomes ranging from $210,000 to $220,000, attracting first-time homebuyers, millennials, empty-nesters and anyone who desires the convenience that a townhome community offers. They also build single-family homes ranging from $200,000 to $500,000. “The new trend of producing townhomes is a niche that we have fallen into over the last five-to-eight years,” explains Adams. “Rocklyn dived into finished townhome lots when other builders didn't want them, and in my opinion, that put us as leaders in town. We want to be the builder known for putting product out there that is affordable for single moms with kids, millennials, or empty-nesters.” In one of Gwinnett County's hottest areas, Rocklyn Homes has developed a community at the southern tip of the Appalachian Mountains that offers amazing amenities and Right Choice homes. Residents of Horizon have the luxury of choosing from eight home designs that are stylish, classic and best of all, energy efficient. From three-to-six bedrooms and two-to-four baths, each home is spacious and customizable to fit the needs of the entire family. “It was a very easy decision for us to choose Right Choice homes because buyers appreciate the guaranteed savings, the warranties, and the overall way it's built into the home,” explains Adams. On average, Right Choice homes are 20 to 30 percent more efficient on heating and cooling costs than standard homes. They know that in order to afford a larger, more spacious home, energy use must be cost-effective. Tune into the podcast with the link above as Adams gives more insight on Right Choice homes, and also the great promotions and incentives offered by Rocklyn Homes.
