This week on the Overdrive Outdoors podcast, Kevin welcomes Ryan Mareno to the show. Ryan is from south Louisiana, and operates a guide service called Moreno's Outfitters. In this episode, we talk about how Ryan grew up in southern Louisiana in the early years, fishing and water fowl hunting and eventually getting into deer. He tells about how he at first thought deer hunting was boring using a rifle, but then got hooked when he switched to archery. Ryan tells us about his experiences Spearfishing, going spear fishing around oil rigs in the Gulf, and all the way over to Florida. He talks about the different species that he likes to target, and potential dangers of deep water spearfishing. We then talk about being a guide, guiding for alligators, hogs and coyotes. Ryan talks about taking new hunters unfamiliar with the sport out and considerations for safety and to help the hunter be more successful. Ryan tells us about taking Aaron Lewis on guided hunts and how, even though he is a celebrity, is a very down to earth person, and is there to enjoy the hunt. We talk about what gear he prefers for hunting, how he got involved with ATN, and some of his favorite ATN gear for both hunting and law Enforcement applications. We also discuss our recent experience at SHOT show, this being Ryan's first time at this show and what he thought of it, as well as the things of interest that he was able to check out. We have a double dose of Ill with a weed farming cop and an insurrection lady sneaking into the Aaron Lewis concert. Aaron Lewis really, really likes fishing. While there's lots of interesting stuff to unpack with Staind's major label debut, from the probably made up story about Fred Durst discovering the band immediately after decrying their apparent Satanism to "Outside" breaking this thing to 2x platinum to the clear blueprint for "Break the Cycle" and what would ultimately become a very successful career, Aaron Lewis mostly really wants you to know that he loves fishing. He doesn't have to fish too hard for compliments from Bryan, who flirts with a Perfecto rating, and John wonders why he never really checked out this album in full despite loving "Mudshovel" at the time. In any case, it's a great album that both hints at Staind's future and makes us wish that they maybe stayed a little bit more in the past. Beverly was kidnapped and murdered hours later. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss Aaron Lewis and Crystal Lowery. On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville edition, we are joined by musician Rick Monroe and singer/songwriter, Matt Oakley!RICK MONROEWorld-class entertainer Rick Monroe brings his music and a magnetic presence wherever he goes. With adown-to-earth Country resonance, Monroe is no stranger to the stage: he's performed in 17 countries–and every U.S. state including Washington DC & Puerto Rico. The seven-time Jägermeister Country Brand Ambassador has toured with Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Lee Bice, Aaron Lewis, Eli Young Band, Pat Green & Randy Houser as well as has opened for Country Music Legends like Charlie Daniels Band, Dwight Yoakam, Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless and more; entertained for the USO, AFE, U.S. troops in Vietnam and the former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. His brother called him “Elvis Gump” because of all the amazing people and places his career has led him.Show-goers can expect to hear some of Rick's new material as well as hit singles like the sultry “This Side of You,” and the Southern rocker “Cocaine Cold & Whiskey Shakes.” As well as several Top 40 hits from the IT'S A LOVE THING, GYPSY SOUL EPs & Full Albums SMOKE OUT THE WINDOW & AGAINST THE GRAIN.For those who aren't familiar with his music, Rick advises them to come to the show for a good time and to be ready for “just about anything.” “I love to play,” the singer notes. “And I want everyone to play along. I like to think of my shows as an interactive sport.”Rick enjoys sponsorships and/or endorsements with Monster Energy Drink, GHS Strings, SE electronics, Roper Western Wear, Shubb Capos, Speakeasy Original, Westone Audio & Fishman Audio. Rick grew up in a variety of places–California, Connecticut, Kansas, North Carolina, even England, and his love of music and outgoing personality naturally drew him to the stage. Now based in Nashville, Monroe believes GYPSY SOUL shows the kind of diversity he can offer as an artist. He says, “I'm not so linear in my approach to music; I'm more diversified. My influences range from A to Z and I always try to put that into my music. But my home base will always be Country because it's not just about the hype of an idea; it's based on songs.” Fans can expect to hear a wide range of material–but Rick promises that it will all be quality. If his chart success is any indication, it's clear Monroe knows what folks want to hear–and he's eager to give them exactly that.MATT OAKLEYMatt Oakley is diving in with the ultimate summertime love song, “Single This Summer,” releasing on June 28. This episode contains: We three hosts are back at it again, and while it's been the normal posting schedule recently, for us “It's Been A While” (like two weeks) and Aaron Lewis of Staind gets a lot of shout outs. Steven won a game of Shatterpoint! And guess what? You too can kitbash like the pros and like Steven, if you've got access to a Dollar Store. Ben took his mom to the Wonderfront Music Festival for Mother's Day and whoo boy was it amazing. Big highlights were Beck (as the headliner), The Roots (wow, WHAT A PERFORMANCE) and Steel Pulse. Speaking of The Roots, hat tip to Ben's mom for recommending Questlove's book “Music Is History”. Devon got a new iPhone, and in true Texas style he likes 'em big and thicc (it's a Pro Max model). https://www.amazon.com/Music-History-Questlove/dp/1419751433 Don't vomit in the car, man! Apple announces new accessibility features, including Eye Tracking. Yes, Ben is an Apple fanboy, but hardware updates are boring. Like, how exciting is the fact that this slab of glass is thinner than ever before? However, software updates are king! Every June, Ben looks forward to WWDC (where they announce the features in new Apple operating systems), and in September when they come out it's like Ben gets to enjoy a birthday with a dear friend. Occasionally, Apple announces features outside of the typical June and September cycle, and recently they announced some pretty wild things coming to iOS 18, in celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day. The coolest of these, to Ben, is Vehicle Motion Cues. It will be able to help reduce motion sickness for passengers in moving vehicles. Research shows that motion sickness is commonly caused by a sensory conflict between what a person sees and what they feel, which can prevent some users from comfortably using devices or reading a book while riding in a moving vehicle. With Vehicle Motion Cues, animated dots on the edges of the screen represent changes in vehicle motion to help reduce sensory conflict without interfering with the main content. Using sensors built into iPhone and iPad, Vehicle Motion Cues recognizes when a user is in a moving vehicle and responds accordingly. Apple announces new accessibility features, including Eye Tracking (Apple Newsroom) Movie review: Kingdom of the PotA. Steven's a real Ape movie fan, whether new or old... except for maybe that one with Marky Mark? We're in the middle of a nine movie Ape-stravaganza. Steven loves how the new films are portraying ape society. Devon wonders if it's just an analogue for our modern human societies... like, is there an Ape Trump? Anyhow, in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Steven gives it a 3 out of 4 stars, noting the special effects are amazing. Show update: Resident Alien. Devon is still really enjoying Resident Alien starring Alan Tudyk. Catch it on Netflix or Peacock. Book club: The Jaunt by Stephen King. A truly chilling sci-fi story from the master of horror. We loved it. Steven connects some dots with this story and the Deadlights across many of Stephen King's stories. It is now 2024; and as they say, a new year, a new you. So let us start you off by helping you gain a new lens and perspective on things. And who better to assist you on that than our guest, Hal Elrod. In the world of kind of personal growth and personal development, Hal Elrod stands alone. He's recently released a new updated and expanded version of the Miracle Morning. To say that Hal Elrod has created a movement would be putting it mildly. On this episode, you get to enjoy an extraordinary conversation with this man. You're listening to Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different. We are the real dialogue podcast for people with a different mind. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go. Hal Elrod on Spirituality and Personal Growth after Traumatic Events Hal Elrod talks about his journey of overcoming cancer and the cognitive challenges caused by chemotherapy. He shares that he has found himself struggling to finish books because he takes longer to process and comprehend what he was reading, or he forgets what has happened one or two chapters before and ends up rereading them again. They then delve into Hal's spiritual growth post-trauma, exploring his Catholic upbringing and exploration of various religions. Hal emphasizes an inclusive perspective, viewing different faiths as attempts to understand a higher power. He describes a personal and intimate relationship with God, finding solace and strength through prayer. Hal reflects on the usefulness of belief and shares instances where prayer manifested specific outcomes, reinforcing his faith in a higher power. Hal Elrod on Faith, Personal Development, and Empathy in a Broken World When asked, Hal Elrod acknowledges his connection to Christianity but emphasizes a nuanced belief, focusing on embodying Jesus Christ's teachings rather than subscribing blindly. Christopher appreciates the authenticity of Hal's answer, asserting that being a good person matters more than religious labels. Christopher shares a personal perspective on faith, stating that being a good person transcends religious affiliations. He mentions a song by Aaron Lewis that explores everyone talking to God in challenging times, highlighting the universal inclination towards faith during hardships. This reflects a shared belief in the importance of personal development and empathy over rigid religious definitions in navigating life's challenges. Miracle Mornings & Focusing on Personal Growth during Uncertain Times Christopher praises Hal Elrod's impactful work on personal development, particularly the Miracle Morning routine. He notes the challenging times, referencing global issues, economic struggles, and personal hardships. Hal shares some of his insights from 2020, emphasizing the importance of focusing on what's within one's control to maintain mental well-being. He highlights the Miracle Morning as a powerful tool for daily self-improvement and resilience, especially during chaotic periods. Hal underscores the correlation between feeling out of control and the necessity of self-care. Ultimately, he advocates for concentrating on personal growth, stating that inner peace contributes to a better world, emphasizing the responsibility individuals have to themselves and those around them in tumultuous times. To hear more from Hal Elrod and how to live have your own Miracle Mornings, download and listen to this episode. Bio Hal Elrod is on a mission to Elevate the Consciousness of Humanity, One Person at a Time. As the author of one of the highest rated books on Amazon, "The Miracle Morning" (which has been translated into 37 languages, has over 3,000 five-star reviews and has impacted the lives of over 2,000,000 people in more than 70 countries) ... he is doing exactly that. What's incredible is that Hal literally died at age 20. His car was hit head-on by a drunk driver at 70 miles per hour, his heart stopped beating for 6 minutes,
This week's episode of The MetalSucks Podcast is a special one, as we've got John Gallagher of modern death metal icons Dying Fetus as our guest! In our discussion, we chat about the first week sales success of the band's latest offering Make Them Beg For Death and the upcoming North American tour. We also discuss how he had to be forced to take guitar lessons by his mother in his youth, the need to keep Dying Fetus' integrity intact with fans, his favorite shirt design through all the years of creating merch, as well as the one shirt design that may have been a “stinker.” the one topic he thinks is TOO MUCH for a Dying Fetus song, and their recent experience renting a bus from a new vendor during the summer European Tour. Petar and Brandon discuss the grossness of Aaron Lewis playing with dead things for political purposes, Dave Lombardo's comments on Slayer being the best band on the Big Four thrash bands, Ozzy's revelations that he peed on himself while performing live, and Korn teaming up with Adidas for a clothing brand. Special Guest: Rutgers Expert Bryan MacKenzie Featured Musician: Darrin James The Video: [After THE JUMP: The saidening.] --------------------- 1. Rutgers Preview: Offense starts at the top They've awoken the legs of junior-who-should-be-a-redshirt-freshman quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, but he's still lost as a quarterback. Kyle Monangai is a short-stout guy who can burrow. Johnny Langan is still around somehow. 2. Rutgers Preview: Defense starts at 18:50 But the defense is the reason they're a bowl team this year. A lot of returners, old friend Aaron Lewis is one of PFF's top defensive ends, though still way more pass rush than rush-stoppage—too bad we lost him. Wesley Bailey is good too, and Mo Toure is doing SAM things. Alex likes MLB Tyreem Powell. Going to be a real test vs this secondary. 3. Bowling Green After Review starts at 32:05 So Seth was right, Brian? At least they needed more spacing on the first interception. The second needed a better route and it still should have gone to Roman Wilson. Brian thinks Henderson's earned a start. Power works, you guys! Defensively the line is so good that nobody will keep the ball there. Run games are getting eaten alive. Hard to know if anyone else is good with that happening. We'll see….uh…eventually? Gimmicky Top Five with Rutgers Expert Bryan MacKenzie starts at 44:37 Things that might be better than we give them credit for. About the Featured Musician: Darrin James This year we are partnering with The Blind Pig for bumper music, since that's where I've seen most of the bands I've been pushing anyways. Local singer-songwriter and guitarist Darrin James is the leader of the gritty instrumental funk group Disaster Relief. . He's a University of Michigan alum who returned to Ann Arbor in 2010 and has been actively involved with helping to develop musicians in the Detroit-AA scene. James is going to be in Ann Arbor on Friday, October 20th to celebrate the releases of new singles, "When You're With Me," and "Born for One Love," from his forthcoming solo record, "See Right Through" due out in November. Song choices: "When You're With Me" "Born for One Love" "Bombs Away" Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken now now, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat
