The last decade has seen a resurgence of interest and urgency to questions of racial oppression and emancipation. We've now had about a decade of activists fighting for the idea that Black Lives Matter which eventually culminated in the summer of 2020 with millions taking to the streets. The actual concrete victories have been more of a mixed bag, which leads us to the question: what sort of politics are needed to achieve real emancipation? This led Kyle Edwards and August Nimtz back to the American Civil War, and more specifically to the writings of Karl Marx and Frederick Douglass. Both wrote quite prolifically on the events that were happening and were enthusiastic about its possibilities for the advancement of human freedom, but both brought some very different political values and ideas to their analysis. In studying these two figures together, Edwards and Nimtz are able to show how both a fight for Communism rooted in class struggle and a revolutionary liberalism rose to this profound historical moment. The result is The Communist and the Revolutionary Liberal in the Second American Revolution: Comparing Karl Marx and Frederick Douglass in Real-Time (Brill, 2024), a study with a concrete answer to the question of what sort of politics will be needed going forward. Published as part of the Historical Materialism book series by Brill and Haymarket. Kyle Edwards is a Curriculum Administrator at the University of Minnesota, and a member of AFSCME 3800. August Nimtz is a professor in the political science department at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of numerous books, including Marxism versus Liberalism: Comparative Real-Time Political Analysis and The Ballot, the Streets―or Both: From Marx and Engels to Lenin and the October Revolution. Dr. Kevin Roberts joins Joshua Treviño of the Texas Public Policy Foundation to discuss his new book, Dawn's Early Light: Taking Back Washington to Save America. He outlines a plan to challenge the Washington establishment and shares personal insights from his journey. AN INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER WITH A FOREWORD BY VICE PRESIDENT-ELECT J.D. VANCE Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts outlines a peaceful "Second American Revolution" for voters looking to shift the power back into the hands of the people. America is on the brink of destruction. A corrupt and incompetent elite has uprooted our way of life and is brainwashing the next generation. Many so-called conservatives are as culpable as their progressive counterparts. In this ambitious and provocative book, Heritage Foundation President Dr. Kevin Roberts announces the arrival of a New Conservative Movement. His message is simple: Global elites — your time is up. Dawn's Early Light blazes a promising path for the American people to take back their country. Chapter by chapter, it identifies institutions that conservatives need to build, others that we need to take back, and more still that are too corrupt to save: Ivy League colleges, the FBI, the New York Times, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Department of Education, BlackRock, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Endowment for Democracy, to name a few. All these need to be dissolved if the American way of life is to be passed down to future generations. The good news is, we're going to win. The Swamp is so drunk on power that the elites don't realize the ground is moving beneath their feet. In Washington, they wear foreign flags on their lapels, but they don't protect our border. They wave around the Constitution, but they don't respect its wisdom. They appeal to Reagan, but Reagan would never put up with this non-sense. Their decadence will be their downfall. A new day is here.
What is Project 2025? Kevin Roberts is the President of the Heritage Foundation and author of the federal policy blueprint for a radical restructuring of the US government under Donald Trump. He joins UnHerd's Freddie Sayers to discuss his 'revolutionary' plot to overhaul American politics. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Dr Kevin D. Roberts is President of the Heritage Foundation and author of the new book ‘Dawn's Early Light: Burning Down Washington to Save America'.The Heritage Foundation are behind the famous ‘Project 2025' and were called the “severe right” by Donald Trump through the election campaign. Trump distanced himself from Project 2025 again and again whilst VP Kamala Harris insisted on their close ties. Now Trump is hiring several authors of the manuel. So what is the truth? Was Trump lying or was Kamala? And what is the Heritage Foundation? Is the organisation actually the “radical right” as Trump called it? We also explore Dr Roberts' new book in which he describes Trump 2.0 as the Second American Revolution. Roberts insists that institutions must be burnt down. Jaye discusses Project 2025, the 900-page wishlist from the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank that is arguably the most influential group in US politics. She discusses its ties to former president Donald Trump, lists several of its policy proposals, and the four pillars of this plan. Jaye warns listeners of how important voting in the 2024 US presidential election is in preventing Trump and the Heritage Foundation from executing their goal of reshaping America into a Christian nationalist authoritarian ethnostate. Darren is joined this week by Jack Prince. They discussed these topics:The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that Donald Trump has presidential immunity for official acts while he was in office. What that exactly means will be determined first by lower courts. This is another step in Trump shoring up absolute power if he gets re-elected.One of the architects of Project 2025 said the U.S. is in the middle of the Second American Revolution, adding that it will be bloodless if the left allows it to be. Darren said that it shouldn't be. Jack wonders where all the protests are.Jack is disturbed by Oklahoma's Superintendent of Public Schools mandating that the Bible be taught in every class in public schools. We lost Jack's phone connection, so Darren continued the show by himself.President Joe Biden says he's staying in the race, even as Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) said there's a method to replace him before the convention. And as several of the country's top newspapers called for President Biden to drop out of the race, The Philadelphia Inquirer has called for Donald Trump to drop out of the race.

Vivek Ramaswamy, at 37 years old, is the first ever millennial Republican presidential candidate. He graduated from Harvard, then Yale Law School, and worked as a partner at a hedge fund before starting a successful biotech company, where he made millions. It's an impressive background. But he lacks any political experience, so he's not someone pundits think has a shot in the already crowded GOP primary field. And yet, somehow, his name is in the news almost every single day. His tweets are constantly going viral. And recent polling suggests that he's hitting a nerve with the American people: it's only August and Vivek is polling in third place, ahead of established politicians and a former vice president. On today's show, Vivek explains he thinks he can win the nomination and the presidency—by beating Trump by going further than Trump, and by being a kind of Trump 2.0. He talks about why he thinks we've lost our soul as a nation, and why he thinks we need a “second American revolution.” And—from immigration to foreign policy to dismantling the Department of Education—what a President Ramaswamy, with all of his radical proposals, would do for the country. The American Revolution of the late 18th century was followed by an even greater, and bloodier, revolution in the 1860s. Usually presented as the American Civil War, it was in reality a revolutionary conflict between the historically progressive industrial capitalism of the North, and the plantation and slave-owning counterrevolution of the South. This clash resulted […]

Rather than just passively watching our beloved nation transition into a one-party totalitarian state, modeled after the People's Republic of China, we discuss three specific options on how America can retake its place in the world as a standard bearer of freedom. PLEASE STAY TUNED to THE END for a special inside story on the Afghanistan fallout from last year. Ben Peterson is the visionary behind the Heroes Honor Festival happening May 27-28 2022 at the Daytona International Speedway. The event is a calling to give Vietnam veterans the long overdue celebration they deserve and need. Dave Brisbin 7.3.22 The 4th of July comes round again at a time when faith in our country has been deeply shaken. We are questioning our most enduring institutions right down to the Constitution and Founding Fathers' motives and wisdom, with some saying we need to scrap the whole thing and start over. Second American Revolution. Considering the angst, seems appropriate to paraphrase Winston Churchill: the US is the worst country ever built by humans—except for all the other ones. Our country is flawed, of course. Though I'm convinced history will show we have been a force for much more good than evil, if we are committed to rising above the triggering of emotion, obsessive thought, special interest, and personal bias, we can occupy liminal space, the threshold between camps, and see clearly enough to praise and criticize as needed to make us better. Rising above personal triggers—that's easier said. But fighting this interior revolution must happen first if we're to wage an exterior one with any hope of leaving people better than found. Ancient Jews understood their journey as a nation as the journey of a single person, that the macro mirrors and maps the micro, and here, our Declaration of Independence may help map our own interior journeys. The Declaration speaks of political bands that should exist only as long as they serve all parties, of self-evident truths of equality, and unalienable rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. That people will suffer as long as they can before they take up the cause of fundamental change…as it should be. Revolutions make things much worse before better. Jefferson is channeling Jesus who told us to count the cost before going all in, but until we're willing to question everything and let go of all we say we believe, we'll never see which “bands” holding us in place no longer serve us in experiencing our ultimate unalienable right: a love that changes everything. Our flawed founding fathers did exactly this. Even as we question their flawed convictions, let's not dismiss their journey, the process by which we must become convinced ourselves.

In BY THE LIGHT OF BURNING DREAMS, brother and sister, DAVID & MARGARET TALBOT, tell the story of the 1960s, an era they call the Second American Revolution, through the individual stories of movement leaders, including Tom Hayden, Jane Fonda, Russell Means of the American Indian Movement, Bobby Seale of the Black Panther Party, Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta of the United Farm Workers, Heather Booth and the women behind the (pre-Roe v Wade) Jane Collective abortion network.
In the 1780s, groups of New England farmers took up arms against a government unsympathetic to their needs. They didn't call themselves minutemen, but regulators. And the government they were opposing was not King George's, but that of the state of Massachusetts. This episode explores why 3 years after the end of the American Revolutionary War, some believed that another one was necessary.
In the wake of the coup of 2020, the remnants of the historic American nation find ourselves in the same position as our forefathers two hundred and fifty years ago. How far will we go to reclaim our God-given liberties from a tyrannical totalitarian government? Listen here, or listen, subscribe, and review on iTunes. There are so many Abraham Lincolns. There is the ruthless Lincoln willing to suspend habeas corpus and who, as president, presided over record levels of bloodshed on American soil. There is the political opportunist Lincoln who declined to take the bold stand against the Know Nothings that some of his contemporaries did, Lincoln preferring to let the movement implode without much action on Lincoln's part. Lincoln also famously hung back from outright abolitionism for decades, believing that the time was not yet ripe for freeing the slaves. There is the Lincoln who exercised presidential power to an extent that made Andrew Jackson look meek by comparison. There is the Progressives' Lincoln who saw in him a pioneering backer-in-chief of big government programs such as the creation of land grant colleges and big infrastructure spending such as on a Pacific railroad. There is the Lincoln who supposedly lorded it over Congress like some mafia kingpin demanding fealty and no questions asked. There is Lincoln as the leader of the so-called Second American Revolution who, by destroying the quasi-feudal southern social system and passing landmark economic legislation, drastically reshaped America. Not so fast, says Jon D. Schaff in his book Abraham Lincoln's Statesmanship and the Limits of Liberal Democracy (SIU Press, 2019). Rather than smashing societal structures willy-nilly and wielding presidential power like a bludgeon, Schaff's Lincoln was far more deferential to Congress than many of us realized. Schaff fascinatingly shows how Lincoln's Whig allegiances and distrust of autocratic figures like Jackson and Lincoln's own background as a legislator at the state and national levels shaped his presidency and governing preferences. And, far from being a proto-New Dealer, Schaff's Lincoln was very much preoccupied with sound money, making him seem more like a McKinley or a Hamilton than an FDR. Anyone interested in American government, the presidency, Congress and the mainly domestic aspects of Lincoln's presidency should read this book. There is even an intriguing comparison of Lincoln's ideas with those of the Catholic-associated economic theory of distributism. And those who long for an account of a harmony-seeking governing style will find this a congenial read. Give a listen. Hope J. Leman is a grants researcher. Learn more about your ad choices. Guest host Harrison Smith discusses the rising defiance of the American people against the obvious election rigging for Joe Biden, and how this power-grab by the globalist elite marks an inflection point in the battle for free and fair elections, and therefore the future of the country.
Professor Eric Kaufmann talks to Toby Young about his Quillette essay The Great Awakening and the Second American Revolution. He believes American may be going through something akin to China's Cultural Revolution in which many aspects of American society, from the constitution to the name of the country, could change.
Episode 41. February 1, 2020. CLP topic category: Irreconcilable Differences An American Conservative Revolution In the Midst of A Socialist Civil War Introduction: The Difference Between the American Socialist Civil War and the Second American Revolution. David Armitage's book, War, Civil War, or Revolution, (2017), provides a useful method to understand the current constitutional crisis in America. According to Armitage, a civil war emphasizes the essential unity of the combatants, after the war ends, while a revolution involves a civil dissolution of the existing order. Applying Armitage's definition, the American socialists are engaged in a civil war with conservative patriots, because socialists want both sides to “remain members of the same political community,” after the end of the socialist civil war. The socialist logic for continuing the existing constitutional arrangement is easy to understand: the socialists need the middle class and wealthy to continue to contribute their taxes and wealth to the socialist elites, because the socialist regime cannot function without exploitation of the wealthy. Armitage explains that revolution involves the overthrow of the existing constitutional arrangement, and replacing the old regime with a new regime. In other words, in a revolution, the people tearing each other apart do not share a common culture and political community. In fact, as Professor Thompson reminds us, “the two sides hate each other,” and share no common or cultural values. In contrast to the unity of the combatants at the end of a civil war, the two sides in a revolution have no on-going relationship with each other because one of the sides does not exist, anymore. This is the stage of conflict in America today between Democrat socialists and conservatives. The socialists despise non-socialists, and share no values with the founding principles of the nation. But, the socialists need their hated capitalist system to keep functioning, at the end of the civil war, because capitalism generates tax revenues. If they achieve victory of their socialist civil war, they will seek to rule non-socialists in a one-party, totalitarian government, under the guise of the current Constitution. The solution for conservative patriots is to recognize the irreconcilable values with Democrat socialists, and engage in a revolution to form a new nation that reclaims the principles of liberty. In the second American Revolution, conservatives seek an unconditional, permanent split with the socialists. In other words, the conservatives must win the second American revolution in order to divorce themselves from the socialist tyranny, after the civil war. From the socialist perspective, their hatred of conservatives is engendered by the Marxist ideology of class hatred between the capitalist class and the working class. Professor Thompson, of Clemson, writes, “It is not an exaggeration to suggest that liberal and conservative Americans hate each other. There are now two Americas and the division is not between “haves” and “have nots” or between whites and blacks. The coastal, blue state, Ivy-educated ruling class has contempt for flyover, red state, trailer park deplorables and vice versa. To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, a nation that hates itself cannot stand.” While Armitage's definitions are useful for understanding the difference between civil war and revolution, his definitions are not useful for explaining America's first revolution. In that revolution, a civil war was being fought at the same time that a revolution was being fought to form a new nation. There was a civil war inside of a revolution. When the British General Clinton changed his strategy from taking New York, in order to focus on taking the Southern states, he ordered several detachments of loyalists in South Carolina to carry the attack against the patriots. British regulars were not used to any great extent in the Carolina theater. According to one historical account, “the Carolinas were subjected to furious partisan warfare. With minor use of British troops, the south became embroiled in a civil war marked by horrendous and indiscriminate violence… The patriots had to fight a civil war and fight one of the greatest armies of the world at the same time.” For a great period of time in South Carolina, the Tory loyalists were successful in vanquishing the patriots, and engaged in horrific torture and slaughter of patriot prisoners, who had surrendered. The success of the loyalists abruptly changed at King's Mountain, when the loyalists met a patriot army of 900 frontiersmen, commonly called the “Over the Mountain Boys.” From that defeat, General Cornwallis marched his regulars and Tories to Guilford County, N. C., where they engaged General Greene and the American regular army. The fighting at Guilford Courthouse was so brutal and intense that Cornwallis ordered his soldiers in the rear of the line to shoot the soldiers in the front, in the tail, to make them advance against the Patriots. The experience at Guilford was so devastating to the British troops that they refused to leave their quarters in Yorktown to engage the Americans again. Louis Gohmert's analysis of the current conflict in America could be improved if he adopted the “civil war within a revolution” model to explain the Democrat socialist behavior. Gohmert describes the socialist initiative to nullify the 2016 presidential election and impeach President Trump as a “Communist Revolution.” Gohmert states, “I think it is better to characterize it as [a] communist revolution. That's what they're about, and whether you want to call it progressivism, socialism, communism, that's what they're about, and we're already seeing … communism's hatred of religion, and specifically Christianity. It's a threat to what has always been an American way of life.” The more accurate analysis of the socialist behavior involves a progression of behavior from resistance to the transfer of power, to the open rebellion of a coup, then to the sedition of the bureaucrats in the deep state, and finally to civil war. Our podcast today will place these stages of the socialist tactics into the argument that reconciliation with the socialists is impossible. Nothing will ever change the ideology, or the behavior, of the Democrat socialists, who will continue to push for victory of the glorious socialist state, in order to subjugate non-socialists. To paraphrase President Trump, “No matter how many witnesses you give the Democrats, no matter how much information is given, like the quickly produced Transcripts, it will NEVER be enough for them. They will always scream UNFAIR. The Impeachment Hoax is just another political CON JOB!” Our podcast concludes that the only solution to the constitutional crisis is a conservative revolution to restore the original democratic republic of America contemplated by the Patriots in their creation and ratification of the Articles of Confederation. Much of the confusion about a central event in United States history begins with the name the "Civil War." In reality, the Civil War was not merely civil--meaning national--and not merely a war, but instead an international conflict of ideas as well as armies. Its implications transformed the U.S. Constitution and reshaped a world order, as political and economic systems grounded in slavery and empire clashed with the democratic process of republican forms of government. And it spilled over national boundaries, tying the United States together with Cuba, Spain, Mexico, Britain, and France in a struggle over the future of slavery and of republics. In The Second American Revolution: The Civil War-Era Struggle over Cuba and the Rebirth of the American Republic (University of North Carolina Press, 2019), Gregory P. Downs argues that we can see the Civil War anew by understanding it as a revolution. More than a fight to preserve the Union and end slavery, the conflict refashioned a nation, in part by remaking its Constitution. More than a struggle of brother against brother, it entailed remaking an Atlantic world that centered in surprising ways on Cuba and Spain. Downs introduces a range of actors not often considered as central to the conflict but clearly engaged in broader questions and acts they regarded as revolutionary. This expansive canvas allows Downs to describe a broad and world-shaking war with implications far greater than often recognized.
