Send us a textIs Abdul Carter destined to become the next superstar for the New York Giants? In this segment from 2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates, Drew and Rob break down why the hype is growing around the Giants' No. 3 overall pick. From Joe Schoen's recent comments on the Up & Adams podcast to a bold prediction by former NFL star Shawne Merriman on Good Morning Football, the buzz around Abdul Carter is impossible to ignore. Merriman even declared, “I believe Abdul Carter is going to be the Defensive Rookie of the Year,” citing Carter's explosiveness and instinctive playmaking.Schoen gave fans a deeper look into Carter's work ethic, leadership, and fit in Shane Bowen's evolving defense. Carter has been the first to arrive at workouts, showing the same relentless drive that got him drafted so high. Schoen also gave insight into how the Giants plan to utilize Carter alongside Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux to create a dominant, versatile front. But that's not all—Dru Phillips praised cornerback Deonte Banks' offseason growth, noting that fans are going to see “a different Tae” in 2025. There's also movement on the offensive side, with wide receiver Gabe Davis visiting the Giants. As Jordan Raanan hinted, there's real momentum for a reunion with Daboll and Schoen, who know Davis well from their days in Buffalo. This segment also covers Schoen's vision for the upcoming season, his thoughts on the tough early schedule featuring divisional matchups, and the mindset inside the locker room. He didn't hold back about his excitement for second-year players like Tyler Nubin and Phillips, new veterans like Jevon Holland and Paulson Adebo, and how the mix of youth and leadership can elevate the Giants' defense. We also touch on the team's future at quarterback with Jaxson Dart. Schoen spoke about the collaborative process that led to drafting Dart, his fire and passion, and how his competitiveness and toughness can help unify the entire roster, not just the offense. If you're looking for the latest ny giants news and updates, the inside scoop on Abdul Carter's potential, and how the Giants are building for 2025 and beyond, this is the giants channel to be watching. What up world it's your boy E coming at you from the Nattering With E studios. After a brief break to battle off a bout with laryngitis, we are back with our next NFL chapter of Nattering E Trades! Earlier this week, the NBA not the NFL had one of the most intriguing trades we'll probably go back and look at in a couple of years from now. No active players were traded between the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz, only draft picks. The Jazz traded three first-round draft picks this year, the 2027 and 2029 drafts for Phoenix's unprotected 2031 first-round pick. The deal wasn't unprecedented but signaled to the rest of the league that the Suns are probably looking to pull off a bigger deal later. So you might wonder, what does this have to do with the NFL? Well, I'm glad you asked, as today in part 1 of a 6 part series we'll be looking at the three best trades to involve draft picks in the NFL. In three weeks we'll be looking at the three worst draft pick-related trades in NFL History. TOP 3 TRADES Involving Draft Picks The Best: Number 3 Eli for Philip 3. The year is 2004 and after having bad seasons in 2003, the New York Giants and San Diego Chargers pull off a trade that essentially allows each to acquire picks that'll eventually turn out to be two hall of fame caliber quarterbacks. The San Diego Chargers had the first overall pick in the 2004 draft and took Mississippi quarterback Eli Manning the younger brother of Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos great Peyton Manning. Going into the draft it was well known that Eli had no intention of playing in San Diego, despite them owning the first overall draft choice. Enter the New York Giants. Finishing with the fourth worst record in the NFL in 2003 and thus the fourth overall selection in 2004, the Giants took NC State quarterback Philip Rivers fourth overall. They then would broker a deal with the Chargers, to send the aforementioned Rivers along with a third round selection in 2004 and first and fifth round picks in 2005 to the Chargers for the disgruntled Eli Manning. While the trade is mostly seen as a success for the Giants, who received Manning who would lead them to two Super Bowls and win two MVP awards, the Chargers did pretty well themselves. Rivers is also considered a hall-of-fame quarterback despite never making it to the Super Bowl, he often led the league in passing yards and touchdowns. The Chargers also were able to draft kicker Nate Kaeding with the third-round selection in 2004, and the first-round pick in 2005 got them linebacker Shawne Merriman to bolster the Chargers defense for most of his six seasons. He also led the league in quarterback sacks in his first three seasons with 39.5 and was the defensive rookie of the year.
Mike and Steve recapped Tuesday's winter storm, and Mike told stories about New Orleans' history of hosting the Super Bowl. Kelsey Nicole Nelson, the Washington, D.C., sports media person of the year and host of "Listen in with KNN" on Fox Sports, joined Mike, Steve, and Charlie. Nelson celebrated "special" rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels for revitalizing the Washington Commanders' franchise en route to their first NFC Championship appearance since 1992. Mike and Steve reviewed the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year Award nominees, which included two former Saints. Steve and Mike slammed the Pelicans for continuing to "baby" Zion Williamson after the team listed him as out for Friday's game against Memphis with "return to play reconditioning from illness." Audacy NFL insider Mark Schlereth, the host of "The Stinkin' Truth" podcast, previewed the AFC and NFC Championship Games with the guys. Mike, Charlie, and Steve played their weekly "Pick-Six" segment. Mike and Steve spoke to Chrissy Smith, a podcaster and writer for "The Kneaux," and Shawne Merriman, a former All-Pro linebacker and owner of "Lights Out Xtreme Fighting." They discussed Jacksonville's pursuit of Bucs OC Liam Coen, backed Mike McCarthy for the Saints' head coaching vacancy, and questioned Dallas' interest in promoting OC Brian Schottenheimer. Mike and Steve interviewed Patricia Traina, the publisher of "New York Giants on SI" and host of the "Locked on Giants" podcast, and Zack Nagy, an LSU reporter for Sports Illustrated.
