Patient and dedicated, they're able to pursue causes and ambitions with single-minded persistence. They often work within communities, either from above as a leader or from within as a healer, bodyguard, or just a loyal follower. Amethyst Amethyst glimmers are wondrous, for this is the otherworldly ink of sorcerers, sages, animated objects, and other glimmers who use their special powers to achieve their aims. They are incredibly powerful when they have access to their amazing abilities but may land in trouble if they're stripped of those or tap into power they can't control. Emerald Emerald glimmers are flexible. Gifted with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, they are never caught off guard. Quick-thinking but not necessarily book-smart, they navigate their environment—whether physical or social, natural or artificial—with ease. Ruby Ruby glimmers are daring. They use their speed and bravery to defy the odds. They are often warriors, explorers, and daredevils. Sapphire Sapphire glimmers are intellectual. Intelligent and creative, they excel at strategy, invention, and the arts. They can almost always know something, plan something, or invent something that will win the day. Steel Steel glimmers are strong. Large and imposing, armored, or just plain powerful, Steel glimmers can apply huge amounts of brute force to get the job done. Ragavan has been banned. Our sweet prince of Legacy, beloved by many and revered by even more, is no more. Wizards of the Coast has taken action, and our simian sidekick will speak, see or do no evil anymore. But as a wise man once said: don't be sad it's over - be glad it happened. In this spirit, Callum and Julian analyze WotC's stated reason for banning the monkey, and why this B&R announcement has already pathed the way for the following one "soon" after. We also take a look at the state of the format we're now just entered, and which decks as well as card choices will constitute the upper tier of Legacy moving forward. As vendors and the general public began cracking their copies of the Phyrexian Praetor Secret Layer, StarCityGames found the first serialized Magic card placed in a consumer product. Number 77 in a series of 100, the "reverse list" Viscera See made huge waves. Over the Crimson Vow pre-release weekend people were eager to see not only what the first opened copy would sell for, eventually fetching $5k via a BIN on a Facebook sale, but if this Viscera Seer was either one card in a subset of cards or one of one hundred Viscera Seers; the latter being what was determined. People began the process of data mining the amount of Secret Layers sold in the drop that could also contain Reverse List cards and thus the race for information continued. This week we discuss what both purposeful misprings means to the game as well as serialization and a continued trend towards the Sports cards model that WotC has been taking and what we can expect based on the information and knowledge we have from these existing models. https://twitter.com/StarCityBen/status/1458851557278203906 https://twitter.com/StarCityBen/status/1459566116431351811

It's that time again! I went to a Grand Prix, so now you get more Three Questions! This is the third of four shows from GP Charlotte 2016. When I find myself at a big Magic tournament, I take my trusty digital recorder and ask lots of people three questions that are a bit silly, because I'm not going to ask serious hard-hitting stuff to players between rounds, to judges during their shift, and to everyone else while they're doing...whatever it is they're doing. Besides, my off-the-wall questions put them on the spot and reveal a little bit more about who they are as a person and as a Magic player. This episode is all about the pros and the content creators! I kick things off by talking to Reid Duke, Shahar Shenhar, and Jon Finkel all at once! I also hit up Andrew Cuneo, Mike Sigrist, Jeff Hoogland, Ali Aintrazi, Brian Braun-Duin, and Todd Anderson! As for my fellow content people, I got to bother CJ Shrader of JudgeCast, Meghan Wolff of Magic: the Amateuring, Cedric Phillips of Star City Games, and Reuben Bresler of Magic Mics. I also interviewed Aaron, known to all (because I just said so) as Father of The Beast, whom I will love forever. I hope you guys enjoyed the extra work I put into these. Once I had the idea to include everyone's musical response, I couldn't not do it, you know? Be sure to hit me with your answers to these Three Questions! The real purpose of this show, like most of the stuff I do, is to entertain you – the listener. Rather than asking the same old questions that everyone else does, I'm looking to give you a slightly more off-the-wall look into these Magic players and judges and what-have-you by catching them off guard and putting them on the spot. This episode is the first of four, and covers the first handful of people to answer my questions. Appearing on this episode are MTGBroDeals writer (and purveyor of fine bacon) Zeki Alikaya, Not Another Magic Podcast host Jack LaCroix, Higher Standards host Renee Hupp, Pitt Imps host Angelo, CommanderCast writer Hayes (the Hayes), Level 3 Judge & former Judgecast host Riki Hayashi, and StarCityGames own Ben Bleiweiss. Of course I also talked to some well-known players! On this episode you'll hear answers from Osyp Lebedowicz, Gerard Fabiano, Gaudenis Vidugiris, and Jacob Wilson. Hope you enjoy! Let me know what your answers would be! And keep an eye out for the next batch of Three Questions from Grand Prix Charlotte coming VERY soon! As if you couldn't tell from the title, we're joined this episode by former Muse, former Gathering Magic writer, former Star City Games writer, current DailyMTG writer and longtime Mana Pool listener Bruce Richard! Be sure you pronounce that all French-like, it turns out he's Canadian. But don't hold that against him, he's still completely awesome! You can follow him on Twitter @manaburned We begin the episode by getting Bruce to give us some background. Who he is, where he came from, that sort of thing. From there we dive right into Commander previews, because heaven forbid we have any freakin' time at all between preview seasons. But at least these cards are pretty cool, if not a little wordy at times. After an appropriate enough musical break, we've got a really fun Magic Mad Lib, followed by a brand new Story Circle! We've gotta do a Commander-style Story Circle with one of these new legendary dudes, and if you were listening closely to the previews I'm pretty sure you'll be able to figure out which one. If you want to see the full list we came up with, just click here: http://themanapool.com/the-deck-box/storycircle298edh/ Bruce's many, many archives:StarCitygames: http://www.starcitygames.com/tags/BruceRichard/2000-01-01/2013-10-17 Muse Vessel: http://musevessel.wordpress.com/category/windborn-musings/ GatheringMagic: http://www.gatheringmagic.com/author/BruceRichard/ Dailymtg.com: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Archive.aspx?author=Bruce%20Richard Intro & Outro Music – Diamond by Swift – http://www.myspace.com/swiftbandBreak Music - Map of the Problematique by Muse - http://muse.mu/This episode's post: http://themanapool.com/podcast/episode-298 Forum thread for this episode: http://cardshark.freeforums.org/episode-298-serious-fun-with-bruce-richard-t957.html Check out our archive at http://themanapool.com/category/podcast Our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/TheManaPool Our Google+ page: http://gplus.to/themanapool Email us at dorks@themanapool.com Follow us on Twitter at @TheManaPool Cardshark Member Promotions: http://www.cardshark.com/Promotions/Member-Promotions.aspx Subscribe to our RSS feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/themanapool
Chewie note: Eric wanted his GP Nashville episodes to go up as soon as possible, and Chris Otwell is unavailable to upload casts to the MTGCast Network until Sunday. So I offered to help a brother out and get his casts out there ASAP for everyone's listening enjoyment. Keep an eye out, they'll be going up as soon as I get them from him! This episode starts with a conversation with Richard F. Castle, creator of Inside the Deck, a featured documentary-style video cast on Gathering Magic. We talk about his origin and what he does. Check out his blog at www.insidethedeck.com.Next up is Evan Erwin (@misterorange on Twitter) of Star City Games. We talk about his expanding role in the SCG organization and he reveals that the life tracker in the Star City Mobile App will be getting an overhaul. Then Sam Black (@SamuelHBlack on Twitter) takes some time to go over his 50 card draft deck with me (yes, you read that right). He answers the question “Can you draft too many Selhoff Occultist?” He certainly has an interesting view on the drafting format.I end the episode by talking with Ethan Heilicher who has an amazing set of decks put together for battling with his friends. Some might call it a block of blocks. He was featured on the main coverage site. He is the president of RAWG (Rochester Wargamer's Association & Guild). You can find him and contact him on Twitter as @Pokezel I'd like to give a special thanks to Chewie for hosting these shows on his site and getting them up (almost) live for me. And another special thanks goes out to Mana Deprived for hosting my text write-up, which will be going up after the weekend is over!If you have any specific things you would like to hear on the show, please reach out to me on Twitter! You can find me as @EricMTGCast there.
Yeah, you read it right - we got Bennie Smith! He writes for Star City Games now, he used to write for DailyMTG, and he's here with us to close out Commander Month! I'm pretty sure this is what's known as "doing it right". We spent a while picking his brain and asking all about his Magic history - all you've ever wanted to know about Bennie Smith? Aw yeah.We got Bennie to help us answer some excellent listener questions, like how to deal with mass removal when you're playing a heavily creature-centric deck. Tosus asked if he should use EDH to teach new players the game or if that risked scaring them away forever. And there was the obligatory most over- and under-rated generals question, which we kinda sorta answered mostly. Then we moved from there into a Story Circle, with everyone's favorite not-vigilance-giving (Johangilence?) general, Johan! You can find the complete list for that right below this paragraph so you can follow along at home. Holy crap I loved the deck we came up with. As soon as this is done uploading, I'm gonna trade Mike for his. No really, he's sitting right here behind me!http://themanapool.com/the-deck-box/storycircle219edh/ Oh, and if you're in or around London or you just enjoy tabletop, role-playing, or war games (or Magic of course) you should go visit Roll of the Dice Online Games (yes, it spells ROTDOG) - ROTDOG.co.uk/blog. Well we've got lots of stuff for you this episode. First off, there's a Magic Mad Lib, provided by jars from the forums. Then we have some controversial stuff. We kick it off with Hornet Sting again, this time going into a deeper discussion about what may or may not be wrong with the card on any number of levels. Then we hit the Esper Charm incident described by Cedric Phillips on StarCityGames. This one gets deep. Feelings are hurt, friendships are destroyed, podcasts are forever ruined...and then Dirk proves once again why he's a genius. Then we've got M11 as a whole. Two of us hit the Prerelease, which we'll tell you about. Then we all take a look at M11 in its entirety and ruminate and marinate on it for your amusement and edification.Oh yeah, check out this awesome Legend of Zelda set that Monday Night Magic mentioned. It's awesome.http://www.gamesradar.com/f/behold-our- ... 4459310090Intro Music - Diamond by Swift: http://www.swift-band.comBreak Music - Chrono Trigger Main Theme (Orchestrated) composed by Yasunori Mitsuda Forum thread for this episode: http://cardshark.freeforums.org/episode-138-pick-your-controversy-and-m11-t559.htmlCheck out our archive at http://themanapool.libsyn.comEmail us at themanapool@cardshark.comFollow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/themanapoolVisit Cardshark! http://www.cardshark.comRead Chewie's 60 Card Challenge blog posts at http://themanapool.libsyn.com/category/ ... 0ChallengeCardshark Member Promotions: http://www.cardshark.com/member_promotions.aspSubscribe to our RSS feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/themanapool
