In 2011, Tammer Kamel launched Quandl, a company that provided investors with data designed to give them a competitive trading edge. For example, Quandl offered subscriptions that let investors access private jet flight information for public companies as a predictor for M&A activity.  By 2018, Quandl had grown to 75 employees. Kamel saw industry giants entering the space, but knowing the time and capital investment it would take to build a competitive offering, he believed they would prefer to acquire Quandl. Kamel began shopping the business around, and shortly after, Nasdaq acquired Quandl for a life-changing sum.

Tammer Abiyu shares his recent experience visiting the Rwanda Genocide Memorial in Kigali and summarizes the history of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide.  He opens up about the impact of visiting a mass grave of 250,000 victims and reflects on how little he learned about the Rwandan Genocide while growing up in the U.S..  Tammer then explains the historical and political context for the recent campaign of ethnic cleansing that has been going on in the Tigray region of Ethiopia since 2020.  He reflects on the lack of American media coverage of Tigray and compares that to the extensive media coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.   Tammer also shares his thoughts on the recent Tigray peace agreement that was signed in Nairobi in November 2022.  He then takes us on the journey of how and why he developed his political consciousness. Tammer shares tips on finding information outside the mainstream U.S. media, and reflects on the importance of being a politically conscious world traveler. Tammer Abiyu starts by telling his parents story of participating in the resistance against the Derg regime in 1970s Ethiopia and then coming to the U.S. as refugees, meeting in Washington DC, and settling in New Jersey.  He then talks about his experience growing up in an Ethiopian immigrant home in New Jersey, and navigating his Ethiopian-American identity.  Tammer shares how his interest in travel developed, how he fell in love with Japan, and why Tokyo is his favorite city.  Matt and Tammer also reflect on their respective trips to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and why it is so important to travel there. Tammer Qaddumi is an investor, and one of the founding partners at Venture Souq, a Dubai-based early-stage investment platform. The Spirit Photographer In October of 2006, Miles Tammer was the only remaining witness to an odd mass disappearance that took place at the annual Nemeroff Masquerade - a yearly costume party thrown by millionaire, Stanley Nemeroff, at his lake house in Camden, Maine.  While Mr. Tammer was initially held as a person of interest, the lack of evidence tying him to any wrong-doing eventually lead to his release.  Shortly after, Mr. Tammer disappeared from the country, but had left a letter tacked to the wall of his apartment's entryway.  The note was a telling of the events of the night in question, which drastically differed from his account tendered to the police, where he claimed the guests had simply disappeared after he returned from his smoke break.  The following is the content of Mr. Tammer's letter.    Looking for a way to support us and receive perks like early access to podcast episodes and behind-the-scenes videos? Dubai is excellent at what it does for startups, the only thing is allowing those startups to scale to additional cities overnight, as they can in the United States or European markets; allowing them to expand into the 350 million person market in the blink of an eye. Bureaucracy and barriers to entry between the individual MENA region ecosystem markets act as a detriment to startups looking to expand in the region.On the Step Conference…We see a lot of cohesion in the ecosystem here, everyone knows each other and it’s very collaborative, in the sense everyone wants to do stuff together; there is competition but relative to other sectors, it’s generally a collaborative environment. Alex och Andreas pratar denna vecka med Anders Graneheim – en av Sveriges bästa kroppsbyggare någonsin, och numera fast BODY-medarbetare. Anders berättar här om allt från den ultradeffade debuten på 69 kg, till sin sista start som proffs 2002. Han hinner dessutom berätta om sina tankar kring rosarandiga tights utan kalsonger, och sin syn på en eventuell comeback.
