He looks ready to step into a field-stretching role. How his opportunities in the past have worked out, what the intent and changes of the Saints offense will need to be to provide more, and the proof of concept that if the opportunity is provided, the production will come. Whether with Jameis or Taysom Hill, Smith could be poised to breakout in 2021. How Jeff Ireland and the Saints view 6th round rookie Landon Young out of Kentucky and how he could potentially factor into long-term plans. Joining host Pat Fitzmaurice this week is Derek Brown, senior analyst of Fade the Noise and co-host of the Chalk Fade podcast. In a Seussian turn, Derek slips into the role of Cam-I-Am to convince a skeptical Pat that Cam Akers is indeed delicious at an early-second-round ADP. D-Bro then talks about his new rookie RB crush, Javonte Williams. There’s some discussion about other rookies as well, including Travis Etienne, Terrace Marshall, DeVonta Smith, Kenny Gainwell, Michael Carter and Tylan Wallace. A resident of Fort Worth, Texas, Derek explains how he and his family dodged the worst of the winter storm that rocked the Lone Star State in February, and he talks about the music that’s helped him cope with the pandemic. Irv Smith and Adam Trautman are the focus of some TE conversation. A lifelong Saints fan, Derek offers thoughts on Michael Thomas, Tre’Quan Smith and what New Orleans might do at QB in 2021. Pat and Derek wrap the show with conversations about Jalen Hurts, Gabriel Davis and Terry McLaurin. Denzel Mims impressed given the circumstances. A.J. green and Nelson Agholor is not dead yet. Jaire Alexander is a cornerback to avoid. Marquez Callaway stole Tre’Quan Smith’s soul. Look at us now. After a summer indoors, what a sick air conditioned nightmare that was, where nothing was certain, the NFL got through one week of the 2020 NFL Season, and will play another week of football. Look at that! That’s good, even if Houston is probably going to start 0-2 with a murderous game against the ravenous Baltimore Ravens. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt and his good friend Taylor preview Week Two of the 2020 NFL season. Topics include a Tre’Quan Smith update, Smooth Grandmaa’s questions, how ugly Houston v. Baltimore can get, the stupid Dallas Cowboys and their stupid 4th and 3 failure, Kyler Murray sack dodging, being happy that Cam is happy, and a shoutout to Bill Belichick who is definitely a loyal Battle Red Radio listener. It’s a one-upmanship episode, as new additions to NFL rosters come in and push out the old guard. Stompy (@FFStompy) and Ethan (@ETurnerFF_PT) have early predictions for training camp battles… and it doesn’t look good for the incumbents! Marlon Mack, Kerryon Johnson, Phillip Lindsay (and Royce Freeman, somewhat), Mark Ingram, and Darrell Henderson/Malcolm Brown all face stiff competition as they try to hold onto their lead back duties. Will any of these RBs successfully stave off their competition? Tyrell Williams faces tough competition from not one, but TWO rookies, Tre’Quan Smith is in the battle of his career, Stefon Diggs pushes John Brown for the alpha role, and Eric Ebron & Austin Hooper bring massive street cred to their new teams. Who has what it takes to keep their jobs, and who will push the king off of his hill? All that and more, on this week’s changing-of-the-guard episode! 1. Week 13 Takeaways Me: -Regardless of how the Steelers season ends, give Mike Tomlin Coach of the Year honors!!!! Hal: Could we be headed for a Super Bowl XLVII rematch in February? 2. Truth/Exaggeration -The Broncos should put Von Miller and his MCL sprain on ice for the remainder of the season -Tom Brady only has at MOST three years remaining in his illustrious NFL career -If the Tennessee Titans make it to the playoffs, they’ll be the team NOBODY wants to face -The Seahawks and 49ers are not only on a collision course to likely decide who wins the division in Week 17, but on a collision course to meet a third time in the playoffs as well! -After Sunday’s loss to the Duck Hodges-led Steelers. Freddie Kitchens is back on the hot seat in Cleveland and a top candidate to be fired at season’s end -Baylor head coach Matt Rhule should be the number one candidate for all NFL teams with a head coaching vacancy 3. Coaching Carousel -Most ideal potential landing spot for Ron Rivera: Jaguars, Giants, Falcons, Lions, Browns, Redskins, Cowboys -Top candidates for Panthers job: 4. Game of the Week: Ravens at Bills -No defense other than the 49ers has done a better job against the Ravens offense this season. How capable is the Bills defense of doing as good or an even better job containing Lamar Jackson than the Niners did? -How much more dangerous does the emergence of Ed Oliver make this Buffalo D? What does he add that wasn’t there earlier in the season? -Everybody, and rightfully so, is praising the Ravens for designing a run first offense to suit Lamar Jackson’s strengths. But shouldn’t more people be saying the same about the Bills and what they’ve done with Josh Allen? According to ESPN’s Field Yates, both QB’s have a combined 1,407 rushing yards this season and on Sunday, that will represent the highest such total by opposing QB’s in the same game in NFL history. Josh Allen was heavily doubted by most (myself included) during the pre-draft process in 2018. How has he exceeded your expectations so far? -Key matchups: Tremaine Edmunds vs. Lamar Jackson, Ed Oliver versus any Ravens interior OL not named Marshal Yanda, Hollywood Brown vs. Tre’Davious White -Game picks 5. Game of the Week: 49ers at Saints -Just like the Patriots passing game has enormous questions outside of Julian Edelman, the Saints passing game has enormous questions outside of Michael Thomas. None of their two other main WR’s (Tre’Quan Smith and Ted Ginn, Jr.) have had more than two receptions in a game since Week 3. Do you see the 49ers coming up with a similar plan for this game as the Texans had for the Patriots last week (double Thomas and daring Smith and Ginn to beat them)? -The 49ers almost did everything right last week to beat the Ravens. The main difference in the game turned out to be arguably Jimmy Garoppolo’s first quarter fumble. Could a turnover-free performance from Garoppolo this week be THE key to a Niners win? -Key matchups: Fred Warner vs. Alvin Kamara, DeForest Buckner vs. Eric McCoy, -Game picks 6. Game of the Week: Chiefs at Patriots -What did the Texans do to get more than their fair share of big plays in the passing game against the Patriots secondary last weekend and how can the Chiefs do so? -X Factors: How significant can the presence of Mecole Hardman be in this game? If there is a Patriots pass catcher not named Edelman or James White that can go off against this Chiefs pass defense, who is it? -Key matchups: Tyreek Hill vs. Stephon Gilmore, Chiefs RB’s/Travis Kelce vs. Patriots LB’s -Game picks

Oh yes, this week Ryan Lopes (@stillryanfive) and Nate Liss (@anoutragedjew) spin pure gold out of what would seem like thin air. This is a high energy episode unofficially sponsored by white claw and whatever teenage magazine is popular right now. D’Onta Foreman, now a Colt: Does it even matter anymore? From RB2 > pushing RB1 to an RB3-ish with “work ethic issues”? Is it time to light the final candle? Foreman fallout in HOU; what does this mean for Lamar Miller, if anything at all? Is Damarea Crockett going to happen? What does HOU do now in that backfield/who would YOU sign (ex. Duke Johnson, Gio Bernard, or swing big for Mel Gordon)? Mike Crabtree lives and lands in ARI. Expectations? Do we care? What does it mean for our heroes Hakeem Butler and Andy Isabella? Antonio Brown may have frostbitten feet? What the heck is going on in Oakland? Meanwhile, the best receiver on the roster, Hunter Renfrow, is penciled in as the team’s starting slot option. Wheels up. Meanwhile, SPARQ-freak Mike Gesicki has had an “uneven” camp. I am upset about it. T.J. Hockenson is “fixture” with the first-team offense. Last TE note: Rico Gathers is #free. Someone please make this happen. Or is his upside and impact all just a dream? SEA backfield update? Chris Carson vs. Rashaad Penny; Carson clearly in the “lead role” and Schotty wants him “more involved” in the passing game. Boner? Jerick McKinnon off the PUP -- are we celebrating? THE JAKOBI MEYERS SEGMENT LET THEM HEAR IT NATE Jaylen Samuels to have a “significant part of the offense” -- hello. Rookie and Breakout Finder-favorite A.J. Brown -- initial third-stringer? Emmanuel Butler RISING -- is Tre’Quan Smith in trouble?
RotoUnderworld Radio Fantasy Football Podcast - Mind of Mansion, Ep 447: The Podfather Matt Kelley (@Fantasy_Mansion) and Raphael Rabe (@RealTalkRaph) discuss the potential of former Alabama backs: Josh Jacobs, Mark Ingram, Kenyan Drake, and Derrick Henry. Why Christian McCaffrey is the 1.01 in all formats. Is the fantasy world sleeping on Tony Pollard and Jordan Scarlett? Why on earth is Le'Veon Bell being drafted as if he's not a Jet? FLASHBACK: Elijah McGuire was a league winner? Sam Darnold is good and there is still time for Quincy Enunwa to break out. Jerick McKinnon is worthy of truther status. Devonta Freeman is destined for a touch squeeze. Stop the charade and rank George Kittle and JuJu Smith-Schuster No. 1 in dynasty. Why Michael Thomas is a mortal lock for WR1 status. Why Tyler Lockett's fantasy floor is super high. Damien Williams looks like a bust for all the wrong reasons. Devin Funchess is on track to be a WR2 in fantasy football leagues. Adam Thielen is the head play, Stefon Diggs is the heart play. Did Tyler Boyd insult someone's mother? Sammy Watkins just became a value. Tre'Quan Smith's blind ADP test was the most shocking. Curtis Samuel is making plays every day in training camp. Why do fantasy analysts trying to make Geronimo Allison a thing? Courtland Sutton is the most forgotten upside WR in fantasy football. Keenan Allen is the most forgotten high floor WR in fantasy football. Calvin Ridley should outscore Mike Williams in fantasy football. How Derrick Henry can lead the league in rushing yards. Miles Sanders is this year's signature league winning rookie back. Mark Ingram is a better value Alabama back than Josh Jacobs. Justice Hill's upside is not yet full appreciated. Peyton Barber has been capped out in Tampa? No player is falling more on no news than N'Keal Harry No one ever feels confident starting James White AFC South quarterbacks Cam Newton and Matt Ryan are primed for bounce back seasons. What if Lamar Jackson can throw? Ricky Seals-Jones is an air raid specialist. Don't be surprised when Evan Engram outscores Zach Ertz this season. Pre-combine Riley Ridley buzz -- did he deserve it? Better 2019 -- Tre’Quan Smith or Michael Gallup? 3 Under-the-radar WR’s? Davante Adams and who else in Green Bay? Who do we buy in Carolina? RotoUnderworld Radio Fantasy Football Podcast - Mind of Mansion, Ep 444: The Podfather Matt Kelley (@Fantasy_Mansion) and Phil Alexander (@PhilFBG) believe both A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd are value plays in an underrated Bengals passing game. SHOCK STAT: Devonta Freeman has not yet reached 5000 total yards in his career and has never hit 1100 rushing yards. Hunter Henry actually returned for the playoffs after tearing his ACL the previous summer and could outscore Kittle and Ertz this season. Should Christian McCaffrey be the first pick in all formats? More one-hit wonder danger: Damien Williams or James Conner? Jaylen Samuels, Damien Harris and Chase Edmonds have maximum upside in the double-digit rounds. Kareem Hunt is one of the most running backs in the NFL. Keke Coutee could benefit from Will Fuller's ACL recovery timeline. Donte Moncrief and Randall Cobb are due for ADP corrections. Courtland Sutton's upside is difficult to unlock in Denver. Royce Freeman is a forgotten upside RB. More overrated Alabama running back: Josh Jacobs or Mark Ingram? Calvin Ridley and Mike Williams are top touchdown regression candidates. Keenan Allen will suffer from the return of Hunter Henry. Sammy Watkins, Jarvis Landry, and Marvin Jones are post hype but not sleepers. Tre'Quan Smith is the best-value best ball receiver. Derrick Henry is a top under-the-radar target in fantasy leagues. Drafting Lamar Jackson with confidence. Why Austin Hooper's ceiling is lower than you think. Jared Cook lives a blessed life. Mike Gesicki is a very intriguing sophomore tight end. RotoUnderworld Radio Fantasy Football Podcast - Mind of Mansion, Ep 441: The Podfather Matt Kelley (@Fantasy_Mansion) and Nelson Sousa (@The_Franchise12) refuse to draft at Todd Gurley at any ADP and speculate on Darrell Henderson's end-of-summer valuation. Sammy Watkins is a one-hit-wonder in search of a his first hit. James Conner should be worried about Jaylen Samuels. Mike Gesicki is the ideal post-hype sleeper. Bruce Anderson is a worthy final round stash in all formats. Why is everyone so convinced the Eagles will not feed Miles Sanders? Is Travis Kelce irresistible in tight end premium formats? Who is scarier to draft: Sony Michel or Leonard Fournette? Royce Freeman is a slightly better value than Rashaad Penny. Should Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida be stacked? Stefon Diggs is simply a better receiver than Adam Thielen. Albert Wilson is more likely to post a 1000-yard season than DeVante Parker. Christian Kirk and Mike Williams have extremely high upside. Keke Coutee, Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scanling, and Tre'Quan Smith offer maximum upside in best ball leagues. Better target magnet: Trey Quinn or DaeSean Hamilton? Robert Foster is missing mini camp and it doesn't matter. Does Carson Wentz know he's stealing money from the Eagles? Dak Prescott is the most underrated quarterback in fantasy football. Kyle Rudolph's fake contract shoudl not throttle Irv Smith's fantasy value. Dawson Knox and Foster Moreau should produce more in the NFL than they did in college. Malcolm Brown is the best possible fantasy football stash. Cooper Kupp's ADP doesn't make a lot of sense given his knee rehab timeline. Why Derrius Guice got drafted by the wrong team. Ronald Jones shows that running backs who busted can become fantasy values. Is Tyler Lockett a better No. 1 WR breakout candidate than Kenny Golladay? David Moore is the perfect late-round stash. Sonic Truth Fantasy Football Podcast, Ep 98: The Podfather Matt Kelley (@Fantasy_Mansion) and Nate Liss (@AnOutragedJew) are joined by Izzy Elkaffas (@DTC_IzzE) from the Dynasty Trade Calculator debate whether Ronald Jones has become a screaming dynasty value. When does it make sense to play Peyton Barber in fantasy football? Dexter Williams vs. Ryquell Armstead: Which late round running back has maximum potential in dynasty leagues? A Dwayne Haskins breakout would propel Jordan Reed, Trey Quinn, Derrius Guice, Paul Richardson, and even Josh Doctson. Jameis Winston letting a golf ball get hit off his head was a bad decision. Matt Ryan won the draft, because the Falcons drafted maximum offensive line protection. James Williams vs. Darwin Thompson: Which KC satellite back as the best chance to stick longer term? How Lamar Miller and D'Onta Foreman won the NFL Draft. Damien Williams is actually a sell in dynasty. Kalen Ballage is a top sleeper RB no one is talking about. Rodney Anderson and Trayveon Williams are not real threats to Joe Mixon. Zay Jones vs. Robert Foster: Who is more likely to break out in Buffalo. The Moutain Whack conference is stacked against Alexander Mattison and Darwin Thompson. Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Vance McDonald are both dynasty buys. Dynasty leaguers should have no complaints about Courtland Sutton. Dede Westbrook is must-stash in all fantasy leagues. Tre’Quan Smith has maximum upside in dynasty but he could be the next Kenny Stills. Danny Amendola is tilting on Instagram for good reason. RotoUnderworld Radio Fantasy Football Podcast - Mind of Mansion, Ep 439: The Podfather Matt Kelley (@Fantasy_Mansion) and Blair Andrews (@AmITheRealBlair) believe Damien Williams is being priced at his floor in way-too-early fantasy football drafts. Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) is joined this week by Derek Brown (@DBro_FFB), a writer for The Quant Edge, FantasyData.com and Gridiron Experts. Pat and Derek start by discussing the Seattle WR situation in the wake of Doug Baldwin’s departure, then run through some of the players on Derek’s 2019 wish list, including Calvin Ridley, Dante Pettis, Kerryon Johnson, Mike Gesicki and Robert Foster. Derek has three children, including a 1-year-old, so Pat and Derek take a moment to appreciate the wonder of seeing things through the eyes of a young child. They also discuss the amateur baking artistry of Derek’s wife, a veterinarian who creates professional-looking cakes as a hobby. Derek also talks about a few of his favorite targets in rookie drafts, his take on the Miami and Tampa RB situations, and what he as a Saints fan makes of Tre’Quan Smith and Jared Cook for 2019. We really can't stay (Baby, it's cold outside) Two weeks ’til we go away (Baby it's cold outside) This evening has been (Been hoping that you'd drop in) So very nice (On Joshua Allen we’ll roll the dice) Our mothers will start to worry (Don’t start Latavious Murray) Our fathers will be pacing the floor (Need a running back who can score) (Narrator: So evidently not Frank Gore) So really you’d better scurry (We’re toast if Packer fans are the jury) Well maybe just a half a drink more (That JL Beers staff knows what to pour) The listeners might think (Mitch Trubisky’s a Bear) Order up one more drink? (Clay Matthews has pretty hair) We wish we knew how (to quit Tre’Quan Smith—yeow!) To break this spell (First Bo, then 2V… aw, hell! Another zero!) We ought to say no, no, no (For Zubaz use FFPHOHOHO) At least we’re gonna say that we tried (even if we’re playing for pride) We really can't stay (Janikowski had gout) Baby it's cold outside And with that the Fantasy Football Party-goers closed their song books and backed away from the front door of JL Beers, where they’d been caroling and carrying on for the better part of an hour. (Narrator: The fine representatives of the police department had nothing to do with their departure. Mere coincidence.) Yes, the penultimate episode of the FFP podcast is in the books, with all the news and views you need to set your DFS lineups and/or survive and advance in your season-long playoffs during this critical Week 15. You had Magsh running the board with aplomb (and opposable thumbs), Bo offering sage wisdom as the show’s own fuzzy Buddha, and 2V moving up in class to the 15% ABV beer which made him that much more interesting… to himself. Beyond description, this week’s podcast—like each episode before it—must be experienced to be believed. Do so now, if you dare. ‘Cuz baby it’s cold outside. There’s a passage the Fantasy Football Party-goers have memorized. Ezekiel Elliott 25:17. “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children.” So we’re thinking: maybe James Connor is the evil man. And Baker Mayfield is the righteous man. And Mr. Jonnu Smith here… he’s the shepherd protecting our righteous asses in the valley of darkness. Or it could mean Frank Gore is the righteous man and Anthony Miller is the shepherd and it’s Ricky Seals-Jones that’s evil and selfish. And we’d like that. But that ain’t the truth. The truth is Wendell Smallwood is weak. And Nick Chubb is the tyranny of evil men. But he’s tryin’, Ringo. He’s tryin’ real hard to be the shepherd. Flip open the suitcase and stare in slack-jawed awe as Bo unleashes his Samuel Jacksons stack on the 50/50. Dig into the bag and pull out a wallet that says “Bad Maggio” on it, then spend the extra DFS cash on Nyheim Hines. You know, 2V’s getting kinda tired. Maybe from giving Alex Collins and Tre’Quan Smith foot massages. If our answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions. Yes, it was all there in an out-of-sequence fashion set to great 70s music: the immediate regrets, the game-by-game fantasy-relevant news, the dumpster-diving for budget DFS/season-long roster filler to salvage your season and set you on the path to the playoffs. Plus 2V set a 50/50 lineup that made sewer rat taste like pumpkin pie, Magsh ain’t no country I’ve ever heard of, and… BANG! I'm sorry, did I break your concentration? I didn't mean to do that. Please, continue, you were saying something about best intentions. What's the matter? Oh, you were finished! Well, allow me to retort. Bo’s got personality. Personality goes a long way. And they will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy our brothers. We happy? (Narrator: Yeah, we happy.) And if you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further. On today's show we are joined by Doug Orth from FF Today and together we examine which borderline options you should insert into your lineup or sit on your bench. Should fantasy owners have full confidence in Marlon Mack (8:15) and Dalvin Cook (10:03) coming off relatively lackluster performances, is Tre'Quan Smith (25:55) suddenly a top-20 WR option, and does Taylor Gabriel (39:05) have a big week in store or is he too far down Chicago's receiving totem pole? In addition, can Chris Herndon (45:25) be considered a TE1 this week and will Russell Wilson's (54:00) lack of pass attempts catch up with him against Carolina? Paul and Matt were joined special guest, Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) of ESPN. The first discussion is how Mike utilizes his 2018 projections for the rookies when determining his dynasty rankings of them. Next, they discuss the rookie running backs and how first round rookie running backs often produce very high end relevant fantasy seasons. In this conversation, Clay discusses his thoughts on Saquon Barkley and Rashaad Penny and the impact they could have in year one. After talking about some more of the rookie running backs and their year one opportunity and long term upside, the discussion shifted the rookie wide receivers. Clay discusses that while he likes some of the long term upside of the class, he is not looking to actively buy any in dynasty if the cost is too high. Clay discusses his thoughts on Tre'Quan Smith and D.J. Chark and why he thinks they are being undervalued in rookie drafts. He also discusses his feelings on the Green Bay Packers wide receiver group and how one of the rookie receivers could emerge and become fantasy viable. In the next segments, Clay gives his thoughts on the rookie tight end class and his top six rookie quarterbacks rankings for dynasty leagues. In the final question of the night, Clay gives three sleepers that he is looking to possibly acquire in rookie drafts that could pay off big dividends if they are given the opportunity at some point in the future.
