New York City Mayor Eric Adams is now facing more calls to step down. "The Mayor has to resign," City Councilwoman Tiffany Caban said. Councilwoman Caban is now the first city council member to call on Adams to resign following the numerous federal investigations swirling around Adams and his team. The Mayor has not been charged in connection with any of these federal inquiries, but Caban says that there are patterns to what she called his mismanagement of city government.

New York City Police Commissioner Edward Caban has resigned amid ongoing FBI probes into Mayor Eric Adams' administration. In a letter to the police department announcing his resignation, Caban wrote, "My complete focus has always been on the NYPD - the department and people I love and have dedicated over 30 years of service to. However, the news around recent developments has created a distraction for our department, and I am unwilling to let my attention be on anything other than our important work, or the safety of the men and women of the NYPD." The resignation follows the seizure of Caban's phones and the devices of other senior police leaders by federal investigators last week.

The judge overseeing the Georgia election case against former President Donald Trump tossed out two more charges on Thursday. Judge Scott McAfee said the charges lie beyond the state's jurisdiction. The order reduces the original 13-count indictment brought against Trump by District Attorney Fani Willis to eight. New York City Police Commissioner Edward Caban has resigned. A week ago, it was reported that his phone was seized as part of a federal investigation involving several New York officials. In a statement, Caban said the noise around recent developments has hindered the important work New York City requires. Trump on Thursday ruled out another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. In rejecting the debate, Trump suggested that a “prizefighter” who loses a bout is always the one to call for a rematch. Under a cloud of questions and a federal probe, Edward Caban resigned as commissioner of the NYPD on Thursday. Caban was tapped by Mayor Eric Adams to be NYPD commissioner in July 2023, replacing Keechant Sewell and was the first Latino to hold the position. The news of Caban's resignation comes after sources told NY1 last Thursday that federal investigators visited his house and took his phones, and seized electronic devices from several other NYPD executives. NY1 investigative reporter Courtney Gross, NY1 criminal justice reporter Dean Meminger and political director Bob Hardt look at Caban's decision to step down, the federal investigation into the NYPD's nightclub enforcement practices and Caban's interim replacement, Tom Donlon, a retired FBI officer. BREAKING NEWS : The New York Post is reporting: NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban will resign a week after the feds raided the top cop's home as part of a corruption probe involving possible influence peddling, The Post has learned. Caban was expected to submit a letter of resignation Thursday, which is expected to be effective Friday, sources said. It was not immediately clear who would replace the head of the nation's largest police force, overseeing more than 33,500 officers and 16,000 civilian employees.
