Laura and Linda are back with a new season of podcasts. This third episode looks at Anne Vallotton, a Swiss and French artist best known for her illustrations in the Good News Bible. Vallotton created over 500 illustrations and drew some of them up to 90 times to get them right. Vallotton’s distinctive style uses simple lines and shading to convey character and emotion: “I wanted to simplify them the most I could. I wanted to get to the truth… the most important thing!” Each month Laura and Linda welcome a guest to discuss the women of the Bible - the well-known women, the loved women, the unnamed women and the forgotten women. Each month they will also spend time talking about issues affecting women today.

The Cycle. Aunt Flo. Time of the Month. Code Red. All of these are cute nicknames for a reality that is wrapped in shame, cultural stigmas and headaches for women everywhere. Of course, we're talking about your period. It's the first installment in a series of discussions on taboo topics. Gina, Rachel and Keith try to answer some of the question marks around your period and how it affects the way you work. How should you approach someone who is moody and you suspect may be on their period? Should you ever say, “I bet she's on her period.” Spoiler: NO! And how do you fight through your own cycle and get what you need to get done, done right. If this topic makes you uncomfortable. Good! Those are the best topics to discuss and think about. You've been warned!

Gladys Aylward was a determined woman. Once she felt the call to the mission field, she refused to allow any excuses to hold her back. She chose to follow God's call to serve in China even though she had little money and was unable to make it through missionary school. God used her to reach a whole community in China with the Gospel and help 100 children flee to safety during WWII. Laura and Linda are back with a new season of podcasts. This first episode explores the unnamed Samaritan woman that Jesus met in John chapter 4. The Woman at the Well. She is never named, yet her encounter with Jesus is the longest between the Messiah and any other individual in the Gospel of John. Representing the lowest of the low — a female in a society where women are both demeaned and disregarded, a race traditionally despised by Jews, and living in shame as a social outcast — she not only has a holy encounter with Christ but also receives eternal salvation. And her testimony convinces an entire town to believe, too. Each month Laura and Linda welcome a guest to discuss the women of the Bible - the well-known women, the loved women, the unnamed women and the forgotten women. Each month they will also spend time talking about issues affecting women today.

It's Friday the 13th! Traditional, in the west, it's a day of bad luck and superstitions. In Asia, we have own beliefs and customs that spook us. While it may not be the number 13, the Chinese try to avoid the number 4 as it sounds like the mandarin word "death" or "to die". Taboos and superstitions; old wives tales or something more sinister? Today's episode features confessions from people who went around looking for trouble and got more than they bargained for.

A visit from Aunt Flo, being on the rag, riding the crimson wave, girl flu, even the red wedding … menstruation is something that half of the world's population experiences for a week at a time, for years on end, and yet we struggle to talk about it directly. But the uterus is capable of incredible things, as anthropologist Kate Clancy explains in her new book, Period: The Real Story of Menstruation: menstrual fluid contains chemicals that repair tissue, the cervix contains crypts for storing sperm for later use, and periods might even be the body's way of improving its inner architecture. But shockingly, doctors viewed periods as useless—even toxic—well into the 20th century, and some still believe that it's unsafe to swim with a tampon in (it's not). Clancy, a professor of anthropology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, joins the podcast to challenge uterine myths, expose the eugenic roots of gynecology, and bring a feminist perspective to that special time of the month.Go beyond the episode:Kate Clancy's Period: The Real Story of MenstruationRead Emily Martin's paper “The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male-Female Roles”Anatomy is amazing: the cervix contains crypts to store sperm for later usageA new generation of artists is making art with menstrual blood, The Guardian reportsTune in every week to catch interviews with the liveliest voices from literature, the arts, sciences, history, and public affairs; reports on cutting-edge works in progress; long-form narratives; and compelling excerpts from new books. On this episode, I continue to learn and be educated on things that women deal with, that I will never experience. On this episode, I go to the source...A WOMAN! I didn't go to an article written by some man with a phd or md, nor did I go to my own boys and ask questions (basically ladies, i'm taking a light jab at those of you that will listen to your girlfriends or other women about men more than you would an actual man), I go to the expert at having a period. While my guest can only speak about her own experiences, she gives me a greater understanding about how the hormonal swings effect her day to day, her reactions to birth control, and gives me a few tips on what to do and NOT to do when she is inside her menstruation period. On this week's episode I talk about the corporate day that I attended which was a bit of an eye-opener with regards to some things. But first; A lovely statement I heard from a wellness/healthcare provider when asked why they charge soo much and their "pay in installment" option is soo much more expensive since that means women with less money can't afford their rehab package; "Poor people won't do the exercises anyways"....and their explanation was actually worse than that sounds! I talk ergonomic chairs and keyboards Vs exercise. Why your insurance company would be better off including post-partum rehab exercise in their offering, and why they don't. Then I talk about an email which I received which asked which shakes I recommended for post-partum women, and generic weightloss advice for PP women.
