Send Mary and Kelsey a Message! In this episode Mary and Kelsey discuss when LFO (aka Lyte Funkie Ones) popped and their biggest hits including Summer Girls, Girl on TV, Every Other Time, and more. The LFO story is filled with tragedy - two of the three members, Rich Cronin and Devin Lima, have passed away from cancer, and founding member Brian Gillis has also passed - but Brad Fischetti continues their individual and LFO legacy. LFO Member Brian “Brizz” Gillis Dead at 47Brian “Brizz” Gillis, one of the original founders of LFO, died March 29, his fellow band member Brad Fischetti said in an Instagram post. He was 47. His cause of death has not been shared. It may not be summer, but it is high time to talk about Summer Girls. Did you know that Rich Cronin wrote most of LFO'S songs about Jennifer Love Hewitt? On this episode we are going way back to the Howard Stern days to hear some wild interview clips and indulge in the very best of 90's boy band music. LFO survived Lou Pearlman only to see two band mates die of cancer, now the remaining member will perform at Aaron Carters memorial concert, I have thoughts ;)

We take a trip north of the border to discuss Canada's most enduring domestic product: Degrassi. Specifically, the 2001-2015 version, The Next Generation. We dive into Degrassi's long and strange history, Canadian pop culture's slight wrongness, and Scott Thompson's extremely ill-fated early 2000s career.
In the nineteenth episode of Making Mt. Rushmore, panelists Steve Bennett & Calvin Crowell join moderator/panelist Andy Atherton to discuss which Summertime Songs deserve a place as on their respective lists. Is “Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince a no-brainer? What about “Cruel Summer” by Bananarama? Will “Night Moves” by Bob Seger grab a spot? Does “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper or “Summer Girls” by LFO deserve a place? After that, they discuss which Road Trip Songs will be part of that grouping. Can you argue that the “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf shouldn’t get a spot? Will “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac be included? Is “Slow Ride” by Foghat the conversation? What about “Send Me On A Way” by Rusted Root & “Panama” By Van Halen?

Seth and Marc peel back a few layers of the lyrical onion that is the 1999 feel-good(?) summer hit aptly titled Summer Girls. Filled to the brim with "inside jokes" and non-sequiturs like a glass full of lemonade on a hot July day... except lemonade is good and this song sucks. Seth finds himself amazed at some uncovered depth as shallow as it may be.

Auditory Hallucination Warning: Just before the 6 minute mark there is a touch of audio echo that lasts about 1 minute. We just wanted to let you know that it's real and not insanity creeping in on you. This week, the boys welcome the multi-talented actress and singer Kristi Alsip, star of episode 5 of The Quarantine Files! As it sometimes happens, talk immediately goes into purchasing men’s thongs. This may or may not have something to do with the upcoming Quarantine Files episode, you’ll just have to tune in on November 6th to find out. Luckily, this swiftly transitions to Kristi’s band, Crawford’s Daughter, and her musical experience. The discussion of musicals leads to another Doug rant which is preceded by Justin’s latest musical creation simply titled “Doug Hates Stuff”. You have to hear it to believe how truly on point it is. After a seamless transition from Justin, the conversation turns to the sad passing of Sean Connery last week. Our heroes reminisce about some of Connery’s greatest roles and this leads to a much larger conversation about acting, roles, and personal philosophies on the art. The focus then shifts to the fact that “Baby Shark” has overtaken “Despacito” as the most watched video of all time on YouTube. The topic of this song being used as torture in an Oklahoma prison naturally comes up which leads to everyone weighing in on other songs that make for suitable torture material. Justin’s torture song happens to be “Summer Girls” by LFO so if you see him around make sure to sing those fantastic lyrics to him. Things are wrapped up this week with a throw-down featuring Sean Connery’s James Bond versus Roger Moore’s James Bond. An epic Bond V. Bond battle where only one Bond emerges. Who will it be? Welcome back to the Bone Zone, Boners! Now that summer is winding down, summer is just beginning, which means that it ended months ago, because you have just noticed it was happening. With this in mind, your gelatinous and quivering friends stand toe-to-toe with some quintessientially summer songs: "Summer Girls", by LFO; "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay", by Otis Redding; and "Steal My Sunshine", by Len, to talk about the meaning of summer and when the 1990s ACTUALLY ended. In between, the team builds the Two Beer Theory™ of human history, use bad Cockney accents for a little too long, and reminisce about the Mongol Empire. Lou Pearlman, whatever happened to him? Oh (looks at notes) he died in 2016. But why is he suddenly relevant - the Boy Band Manager-Impressario-Svengali who managed to bring together a bunch of kids in Orlando to form two super-mega groups (Backstreet Boys and N'Sync, remember them? Go ask your sister, she'll know, or maybe your brother, too)? Is it only in the midst of a wave of documentaries like Fyre (about the scam Fyre Festival and Billy McFarland) or Leaving Neverland (about Michael Jackson's alleged predation on young boys)? Or does it have something else to say? Maybe it's the ultimate post-Capitalist nightmare cocktail? Jack and Korey take a look at the new documentary THE BOY BAND CON, which premiered at SxSW and is now on YouTube premium, as well as a "movie" (we should use quotes, right?) for something that Lou Pearlman and his Transcontinental company put together in 2001 called LONGSHOT. Never heard of it? You may find out why in this new episode of the Wages of Cinema (and boy did we pay some today...) wagesofcinema@gmail.com - song clip used is from LFO "Summer Girls" (song owned by... who knows, but this podcast is owned by me)

The day after our season 4 finale, Rob's dad was riding his Harley and a deer ran out of the woods, rammed his front wheel, and sent him flying off. He suffered extensive injuries, broken ribs, collapsed lung, etc. and had to be air lifted to a hospital in Atlantic City. He has been recovering, but still has a long way to go and is now in a rehabilitation facility. This show was put together to raise money toward his medical bills. If you would like to donate, the GoFundMe will be up for a few more weeks. https://www.gofundme.com/rob-and-slim-show-rob039s-dad-fund We opened the show with "Talking Chinese" by Rucka Rucka Ali, talked about the accident and thanked the donors so far. We listened to the steamy summer edition of "Ryder Reacts to Urban Dictionary" with the sexiest little NiteFlirt ever Ryder Doll. The Driz performed "Summer Girls" by LFO, we did the new "Too Many Rapes" titled "Rape Camp", and Ron read us "Campfire Follies" as a bedtime story. Then we relaxed with some #DRIZZLENEWS. We interviewed Horror Author Isaac Thorne, David The Producer & Juliette Miranda from "The Unwritable Rant" Podcast, Personal Trainer and TKO Superman Joe Pepe, and Ann, Dan, & Becky from The "Black Law & Legal Lies" Podcast. #Sloppy suffered from heat stroke, and FnD wrapped the show up talking to somebody. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO... US! Guys it's our super cute first birthday!!!!! I know, we are like, so young it's bonkers. Just sunscreen and lots of water. Anyway, in honor of our pod anniversary, we are closing out season two with a summer banger, the original song of summer, the song that made frost tips sexy, "Summer Girls" by LFO. Sarah feels feelings about these Boston toolbags she didn't know still lived inside her and truly tries to defend these lyrics while Natalia enlightens us on the band's storied past and legitimately tragic end. We also touch briefly on ANOTHER song by LFO with "girl" in the name, "Girl on TV." They gave us so much. Thank you all for listening and being amaaaaaazing fans!!! See you all in Season 3! What do you want to hear from us next season? Let us know at onlygirlspod@gmail.com or leave a voicemail at 903.35.GIRLS. And a great way to pass the time while you wait for new episodes is to write us a review on iTunes! instagram.com/onlygirlspod facebook.com/onlygirlspod
BIG news right at the top of this week's episode, listen in to hear all the tantalizing details! Then stick around to hear us dive into the lyrically very confused song by summer girl watchers LFO. Along the way Nick provides some history-related alternative lyrics, Mike discovers some shocking subtext, and Steven concludes the vocalist might have Apophenia; don't know what that is? Listen to find out, and then check out our new home for our website at http://comeherefloyd.com/
As popular nostalgia creeps ever closer to the late 90s, LFO’s “Summer Girls” lays in shadow as it waits to once again re-emerge into the sweet sunlight. That day rapidly approaching, its pale thin fingers flex in horrible mockery of humanity, grasping onto the rotting leaves and cold earth of the past that had become… Read more S2:E31 – Summer Girls Music Video
The guys are busy celebrating the holidays this week bringing you our favorite clips from the past year. And, here. We. Go. 2:03 - On our very first Patreon episode we took an in depth look at the career of Roberto Luongo. What were our highlights? How will we remember him? 34:06 - As Joel's Toronto Maple Leafs are making a push for the playoffs, he's on edge and something is really grinding his gears. 44:32 - The Stanley Cup Final is nearing an end and amidst a recap of what has happened so far and a preview of what is to come, Joel has a bone to pick. 58:41 - With the dog days of summer upon us, our conversation shifted to a look at the sports media landscape. How did it change in the first half of 2017? With this look back, how was it different in the final half of 2017? 1:17:47 - When Joel is away, Carl and Tiny Mike will play. On the 5th Line Podcast, Carl and Tiny reminisced about the song Summer Girls by LFO, remembering how great, and confusing, the song was. Joel is off hanging out with famous basketball players so Carl and Tiny Mike are left to hold it down. As Joel is off with the Toronto Raptors, Carl and Mike talk about how they handle themselves around celebrities. Do they stay composed? Do they even care about meeting a celebrity or famous athlete? And from that, would they want to be a celebrity themselves? With the seasons changing, Carl and Tiny reminisce about what makes fall such a great time and compare and contrast the weather between their two cities. Speaking of summer, Summer Girls by the Lyte Funkie Ones (LFO) has arguably the weirdest lyrics of all time. Ever. All time. Ever. The guys explore what exactly is going on in the song, including, but not limited to: - What year does this song take place? - Why does Chinese food make him sick? - Has anyone ever been romantically persuaded by Larry Bird? - What rhymes with hornet? They also look at the adventures of Kevin Durant on Twitter and discuss the likes and dislikes of athletes on Twitter. There is so, so much going on in this week's episode. Pop rocks, Cherry Pez, Boogaloo Shrimp, Mister Limpet, B-ball style and...sawnetts...Were the douche-boys of LFO cut from the same cloth as Samuel Beckett? Probably not, but maybe. Also, dude's name is Rich. Strap in and enjoy the nonsense.
Finally the inevitable happens and Will suffers a full scale mental collapse. If you have any information that can help him, please get in touch through facebook or twitter. Thank you.

Talia Osteen can do just about anything. She was a child actress, she's directed a documentary, she was a Hollywood feature film producer and now she's one-half of a great indie-rock band called The Wellspring. But being good at a wide array of things comes with a cost. Which one should she stick with? Which one is a path to commercial success and/or personal fulfillment? Should one *have* to choose? And what does one do when one inevitably keeps hearing "no"? In this episode: We dig in to compare and contrast quite competent Swedish film LFO: The Movie with 90s boy band LFO. Neither is great...both are eerily hypnotic. Stick around for a surprising number of eggs, badminton f***ing, poorly pronounced Swedish, wrongly ordered cereal, and eventually, severe consequences for the entire human race. Eventually.
