Episode Description:In this episode, James shares fresh reflections from his Bible reading about what it truly means to live as a believer. He unpacks the call to offer our lives as a sacrifice of praise, respect leaders who follow Christ, and walk daily in truth, love, light, the Spirit, and wisdom. With practical insight on meditating on God's Word, James encourages listeners to slow down, digest Scripture, and let it shape their lives one step at a time.

First Baptist Church Sherman, Texas (Sermon Audio)

Ephesians 4 Discover how to create a faith community that helps everyone stay anchored in Christ through life's challenges. In this powerful message from Ephesians 4, we explore Paul's nautical imagery showing how the world tries to pull believers off course and why community is our spiritual protection. Learn what it truly means to be 'truthful in love' in three key areas: standing firm on biblical truth, addressing moral issues with compassion, and offering sincere encouragement. Find out why neither harsh truth nor enabling 'love' reflects Christ's heart for His church. This message offers practical guidance on:- Distinguishing between core biblical truths and debatable interpretations- Speaking difficult truth with the right motivation and approach- Creating accountability relationships that keep us growing in Christ- Walking against the cultural current with community support. Perfect for anyone struggling with difficult conversations in their Christian relationships, those feeling pulled away from their faith by worldly influences, or believers wanting to build more authentic community. From the moment Jesus announced “The Kingdom of God is here; Turn and believe the Good News,” followers of Jesus have lived under the public authority of Jesus the Lord. Jesus' disciples are called to do the politics of Jesus as set out in Matthew 5-7 and throughout the four Gospels.  This vision is lived out in the ekklesia - the called out – the “citizens of heaven doing the business of heaven.” Yet in 2024, the power of identity politics in the U. S., on the left and the right, within the churches, threatens to marginalize, if not obliterate the church's public witness to Jesus. Join our discussion of the chaotic partisan politics of 2024 seen through the lens of Jesus the Lord.

Truth without love has no compassion for the person's flaws.” Today, we talk about the relationship between truth + love. Is there a difference? Is love opposed to truth? Is love an enemy to truth? What if there is no tension between truth and love? What if love is the highest form of truth?

2 John 1 The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth, We begin our study through John's second epistle today with a profound encouragement to live to love with Jesus. The elder is the apostle John and the chosen lady and her children are more than likely personifications of a community of believers who recognized his eldership. The letter has no personal addresses, and plural pronouns indicate John had a group of people in mind. With that said, we take our encouragement today from the relationship John described between he, other believers, and the church. He wrote that he loved them in truth, meaning in reality, but he used an article the truth at the end of this verse and beginning of the second verse, so he could have and probably was stating the quality that unified them—namely, the truth that Jesus Christ is God in flesh who has united them in love. We remember that John recorded Jesus saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” in John 14:6. Jesus is the reality of God in human form. All who believe are “in” that great truth—really. Not only are those beloved of Christ Jesus loved by John, they are also loved by everyone who knows Jesus in truth. It is the love for Jesus and the love of Jesus that unites all true believers. The community of believers should be known by their love for one another because they believe in Jesus as the Christ. John will state that explicitly in this letter, in verse 5. As we learned from 1 John 4:19. We love each other because He first loved us. The beloved of God love God by loving each other with Jesus. May we be filled today with the love of God for our brothers and sisters in Christ whom our Father puts in our paths. If you are married to a believing spouse, then he or she should be the first in the line of those you have the privilege to love. Do you have believing children? Then they are in the line. Hopefully you have work associates who are children of God who are loved because they also are in the truth. May we enjoy living to love with Jesus today as we remember: those who know the truth, love in truth.

Intro : Pilate famously asked Jesus during his trial, “What is truth?” Not long before asking that, Jesus had told His disciples that He was the way, the truth, and the life. One of the central themes of all John's writings is truth. Truth and love. It's said that truth and time will always win. I believe…

HelloWelcome to Life Points with Ronda, the podcast that helps you navigate life's challenges with practical wisdom and actionable advice. where we discuss important topics that affect our everyday lives. Today, I'm speaking to the ladies and ladies our topic for today is: Truth or Dare? To Love or Not? This is the QuestionHello ladies, and welcome to another exciting edition of Life Points with Rhonda. Today, we're delving into a topic that's as timeless as it is complex - love. It's the fuel that powers our passions, the balm that soothes our wounds, and the tie that binds us to the people who mean the most. But it's not always clear when we should open our hearts, and when we'd be better off keeping them under lock and key. So, let's talk about it: Truth or dare? To love or not? This is the question.Truth: Love is VulnerabilityTo love is to put your heart on the line. It's an act of vulnerability that leaves you exposed to the potential for pain. Love is a profound emotional investment, and like any investment, it comes with risks. It means trusting another person with your deepest emotions, your dreams and fears, your insecurities and triumphs. It's showing them who you really are, without the masks and defenses we often present to the world. When love is reciprocated, it can fill us with joy, happiness, and a sense of fulfillment that's hard to match. It can provide us with a deep sense of connection and belonging, and can give our lives a richness and depth that's unparalleled. But when love is unrequited or betrayed, it can lead to immense hurt. It can feel as if our world has been shattered, and our trust violated. The same vulnerability that allows for deep connection also opens us up to deep pain. Dare: Take the Leap of FaithDespite the risks, many of us choose to love anyway. We dare to open ourselves up to the possibility of pain because we believe in the potential for joy and fulfillment. We take the leap of faith that is love, hoping that our trust will not be misplaced. It's important to remember that love is not just about the euphoria of the early days, but also about the work and commitment it takes to maintain a relationship. It's about communication, understanding, compromise, and respect. It's about growing together, learning about each other, and supporting each other through life's ups and downs. To love is to dare to believe in the potential of a shared future, even when the path is uncertain. It's about having the courage to take a chance on someone else, and on yourself. To love or not?To love or not is a deeply personal decision that only you can make. It's about weighing the potential for pain against the potential for joy, and deciding which risks are worth taking. It's about understanding your needs and desires, and deciding what kind of life you want to live.Remember, there's no right or wrong answer. Some people choose to love freely and openly, while others prefer to guard their hearts more closely. Some people thrive on the intensity and depth of romantic love, while others are fulfilled by the love of friends, family, and self. What's important is that you make the choice that feels right for you. Love is a journey, and every journey is unique. Whether you choose to love or not, remember that you are enough just as you are. We've talked about it before. The word can't. It doesn't have a shred of hope in it. And we use it a lot to talk about what we're capable of and think we're not capable of. Have you said any of the following?  I CAN'T cut give up carbs. I CAN'T lose weight. I CAN'T get up and workout in the morning. I CAN'T lift weights. You've said these things to yourself so many times and for so long that it is a soundtrack that runs in your head. No question. No trying to disprove it. And it has become one that you believe.  But, I've got news for you that can either be good news or bad news. What you are telling yourself that you can't do, that is a lie. You are lying to yourself. What if I told you that you can?Get on that midlife health and fitness. Following up on Part One of this series in 2 John, we explore the reason or situation that John was addressing in his teaching on Truth and Love in verses 1-6. Because "deceivers" or false teachers with bad motives were on the move, John wanted his audience to be watchful and make sure not to entertain or endorse these teachers and their ideas. In verses 7-13, we have a great reminder that the teachings of Christ and New Testament letters were spoken and written to real people with real issues, addressing real situations with eternal implications.

In a culture that says we must choose between being loving and being truthful or find a balance between the two, is there a third way? What does John's second letter have to say about the relationship between these two concepts? In this message, part one of a two-week series, we dig into 2 John 1:1-6, and discover that TRUTH and LOVE were never intended to be at odds. In fact, the Bible teaches us that they're inseparable. Jesus is the embodiment both truth and love, and following His example, we can find a third way to live, walking in truth AND love.

The Christian church is worldwide, but it's also localized. We have community churches, life groups, small group Bible studies. But no matter where they are, however large or small, they should have at least one practical thing in common. Dr. Ron shares that commonality with us next, as he continues his Something Good Radio teaching series, “Route 66: The Ultimate Road Trip Through The Bible.” --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/something-good-radio/support

Just because we feel something doesn't make it right. So when we say that "love is love," what we're really doing is instinctively applying the terms and conditions of what we think love should be. But, Pastor Mike challenges, are we really qualified to define and impose those limits? Pastor Mike opens up the Bible to see what God says about love—to straight people, to gay people—and about how hard love is.In this message, Pastor Mike mentions his book, "Gay and God."
