Listeners of Unemployed with Anna Roisman that love the show mention: anna is hilarious,Happy 99th episode everyone! This week we are joined by one of the greats! We have host, comedian, Bravo personality, and friend, Daryn Carp (Shaken & Disturbed Podcast, People's Reality Check) on the show! Daryn is one of the busiest freelancers we know, but for an hour she was unemployed with us. We discuss her first jobs in her family's ski shops, working as a waitress in her hometown, and then the coveted retail job at American Apparel (RIP). But after her retail days, Daryn landed the NBC page program right out of college where she got to work on a bunch of NBC shows. Eventually she got an interview to work with Andy Cohen, where she was exceptionally honest about her opinions on Bravo shows. What could have cancelled her in the Bravo-verse turned into an 11 year job working alongside Andy Cohen at Bravo. We get to learn some great advice that Daryn has gotten over the years and it's very cool to hear how supportive of a boss he's been throughout her life. This episode is inspiring, and shout out to Andy Cohen if he ever wants to be a guest! LOL. Make sure you check out Daryn on social: @carpedaryn and listen to Shaken & Disturbed podcast! This week's episode is with an amazing Film & TV Producer, Professor, Cartographer of the Media Universe, and Anna's friend, Evan Shapiro! Evan has had some incredible jobs over the years working for big corporate media companies, producing major comedy series like Portlandia, teaching at NYU, and his latest venture- starting a podcast with his daughter about cancel culture! (Brave, right?! It's so funny.) Evan gives some of the best advice we've had on this podcast. He talks to us about the rise and fall of major media companies, and what he liked and disliked about working for some of these corporations, and how he's able to fuel his creativity into his life now. He tells us stories about running his own business, a creative marketing agency working with Broadway's biggest shows, and developing Portlandia for IFC. Evan and Anna talk about finding your passion and figuring out a way to make money doing it, which is really what a job should be. And also Broadway...they're big theater nerds. You're going to love this episode and feel empowered about work after listening to it. So to take him down a notch (just kidding) go listen to his new podcast, "Cancel Culture" with his daughter and her comedian friends who have to write a joke for Evan about a questionable topic that could definitely get him cancelled! Follow Evan on social media @eshap - and for more wise words, his Substack! Find out more at https://unemployed-with-anna-roisman.pinecast.co
We're back! We've been on a little break but hey, we're on our way to episode 100! This week we have on one of Anna's new and close friends who she has never met in person, the hilarious and talented Nicole Travolta! Nicole and Anna literally met over instagram where they were posting SATC impressions over the pandemic and then ended up collaborating on a video! A video that they shot separately from NY and LA and edited it together! Technology, people. This episode is so wonderful because Nicole really shows us what it's like when your personal life can interrupt your professional one. After going through a divorce, she truly found herself and her passion again and has been making incredible content and strides in her career! Plus we get some amazing stories about clients of hers that she has spray tanned before. It's pretty remarkable. We can't wait to make more content together and you're gonna adore Nicole so follow her at @NicoleTravolta on social media and enjoy her videos!! Also, Anna and Ellen discuss Anna's latest gig - always another gig! (Least she's not fully unemployed?) Find out more at https://unemployed-with-anna-roisman.pinecast.co
Shabbat Shalom! We're dropping this episode on a Friday because Anna has her good friend and fellow Jewish comedian, the host of the Tiktok series "Jewish or Antisemitic" Eitan Levine! Eitan is serving us the Jewish content we need where anyone can play the game - you just have to decide if it's Jewish or not! Eitan starts off this episode with a story about seeing the Baldwins which you know Anna lives for. Eitan is a hustler - he produces a bunch of shows and content and videos for companies and he's a famous porn writer! (Not a joke, his work has won huge awards!) But back in the day, he was a camp counselor, he was a Kardashian expert and wrote for many publications, and he filmed very fun videos for Elite Daily. Eitan's stories are so wild - just google "Hamiltoe" and you will love it. Eitan is super fun to work with and Anna can only hope he continues to hire her for fun Jewish projects, lol. Eitan's got the world's most interesting resume and you will totally enjoy his content on social so follow @Eitanthegoalie and have a good laugh! Listen to all the other episodes before we hit 100!!! We're back with Episode 95 (almost 100!) and we have the hilarious TikTok star and content creator, Becca Bastos! You may know her from her Long Island mom characters, her flight attendants, her chipotle employees, and the list goes on. Check out her TikTok if you haven't already fallen in love! We discuss her road to TikTok success, and of course Anna gets advice on becoming a TikTok star, her life's goal. We talk about becoming a full-time content creator and what it's like to negotiate deals with brands, getting banned on Tiktok for silly things, and navigating the whole digital world! We take it back to her first job as a camp counselor at a musical theater camp, working at a catering hall, double majoring in college, and nannying. She's a busy gal! This is such a fun episode, and we're so glad to have met Becca! She's awesome so check out her videos (@actressbec). Thank us after. Also Anna tells a very funny story about a job she recently had. This week on the podcast we have the hilarious comedian and friend of Anna's, Khalid Rahmaan! First of all this is the nicest episode of the pod. The complimenting alone is so sweet! Khalid is one of the most positive comics on the scene. Khalid talks to us about how he was fired over Zoom in the pandemic for a customer service job, which we believe to be iconic. But he embraced the pandemic days and started doing voiceovers and standup shows online to stay busy. Khalid wasn't always a full-time comedian and writer, he was a teenage Manny! The only "teenage, black, straight, male nanny" and he wants you to remember this. He worked for the longest running Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. And you MUST listen to this ep to hear the story of when Khalid took two young boys to a Wu-Tang concert! We are still dying laughing. He also worked as a salesperson for fake ads for college sports games which was shady AF, he was a PA, he had random jobs. Khalid tells the most incredible stories, you're gonna LOVE this ep! Then go follow him at @Khalidsays and check out his comedy! Rate & Review & Check out our Patreon if you love us! Find out more at https://unemployed-with-anna-roisman.pinecast.co
This week on the podcast we have the host of "How Cum" podcast, hilarious comedian and friend, Remy Kassimir! Remy and Anna catch up on life and talk about how she lived in Oregon at the beginning of the pandemic and ran a comedy show online out of her boyfriend's parents' basement. AKA an iconic move. Remy talks about growing up in NYC where she wanted to go to comedy shows as a teenager because clearly she had the urge to do comedy. Anna and Remy remember her crowning achievement of winning the so you think you can smoke contest on the original live version of The Unemployed Show on 4/20 years in a row. Remy tells us about her job working at a tennis club, working at a hedge fund, and other odd gigs. She also talks about how she basically made Rent The Runway what they are today - having been a boss (intern) for the company when she was 18! But Remy also started a company at a very young age and her video for the kickstarter actually launched her comedy career. Now she's a working comic and we go into depth about what that means to people we grew up with! Check out Remy on social: @Remykassimir and listen to How Cum for your pleasure! :) Find out more at https://unemployed-with-anna-roisman.pinecast.co
This week on the podcast we have Anna's good friend, the hilarious comedian Becky Chicoine (Girls With Brown Hair). Becky and Anna talk a lot about their moms, their workouts, and then deep dive into Becky's work history. From her first job as a "homemaker" at a nursing home (their term not ours) where sometimes people died, to working in accounting (but falling asleep at the desk), to working in a box factory but got in trouble for talking to a friend, to working in restaurants, to writing and doing comedy! It's a journey for sure, but you're going to love this episode. Becky's stories are so good and she clearly brought that midwestern charm to all of the jobs, even the ones she couldn't stand! Anna and Ellen discuss an audition where Anna put a little "too much personality" into it. Also, they discuss a tweet from a Wharton grad who thinks a 6 figure job is the norm lol. This episode is fire, so listen & rate & show some love. And follow Becky Chicoine @BeckyChicoine on social and tell her ya love her.
This week we are blessed with an incredible guest. He's a Content Creator, Digital Strategist, Shorty Award Winner, and the CEO/Co-founder of Parde Beauty, we've got Gregory Littley on the podcast this week! Greg and Anna are oldddd friends and met years ago when they were both making tons of videos, only Greg was getting paid for his and Anna was doing it for fun. They're also both from Philly, though they met in NYC. Anna and Greg chat everything from nail art to their mom's instagram accounts to crying at jobs. Gregory is so inspiring, he did a billion internships while he was still in school and truly figured out what he was good at and ran with it! He was also able to find internships that paid because he knew it was important to get compensated for his work. Smart move, because these led him to his first jobs. From working in magazines to working in digital, Greg's obviously someone you want on your team. Gregory is one of the most creative people on the planet and his work is incredible so make sure you're following @littleylittley on all platforms. And stay tuned for an Anna/Greg project coming to screens in the near future!
OMG we're 90 episodes old today! Happy birthday to us, it's not easy staying unemployed this long! :) To celebrate, we have the hilarious comedian and writer Zach Zimmerman (The New Yorker) on the show. Zach has a book coming out this spring so we caught him early on the press tour! The book is called, Is It Hot in Here or Am I Suffering for all Eternity From all the Sins I Committed on Earth? And while he calls it a title, we call it a poem! The stories in this episode are awesome. Zach knew from a young age that he wanted to be on a stage, and to tell stories. But before the dream set in, his first jobs were working at Target during holiday season, Papa John's for one whole week (until his schedule conflicted with his play!) Then in college he did a few jobs but his heart was in creating original work. After college he found his "dream office job" at an LGBTQ community center which sounded like a cool experience. Eventually he made the move to work in advertising, which eventually brought him to NYC where he pursued comedy. One of his first shows was a magic/comedy show which Anna saw and loved, and that's how she met Zach! Now that you're a fan, make sure to follow Zach on social media at @zzdoublezz. And don't forget to pre-order Zach's book when it's available! Anna and Ellen also listen to a voicemail (have you called us yet?!) that someone left who tells the story about getting fired from a TV show because he was accused of stealing a feather cape. We're obsessed. Call us and be our next favorite voicemail.
We have one of NYC's funniest comedians on the podcast this week, Maddy Smith (Wild 'n Out, That Time Of The Week Podcast)!! Maddy and Anna catch up about their pandemic, Maddy's job on MTV's Wild 'n Out, what she's been up to lately, and how she's killin it in the standup comedy world. But of course we take it back to Maddy's early jobs like when she was hired to clean her grandma's house, working as a referee for soccer games as a teenager, and ending up in a finance job. Maddy teaches us all a lesson on not being funny at your day job. She spent years at a job where she was super quiet and didn't show her personality so they wouldn't know she was a comedian. Smartest move! Maddy also had a super sweet post-college gig where she was paid to move to NYC. Ya gotta listen to believe it!!! Make sure you catch Maddy on tour in a city near you, and follow her online @somaddysmith for all the laughs. This episode rules! Follow us on social & catch our Patreon if you haven't yet!!!
This week's episode is awesome because we have one of NYC's best comedy bookers, the funny and charming Patrick Cotnoir (The George Lucas Talk Show, The Chris Gethard Show). Patrick and Anna talk all about how this episode happened, because it was through a DM that Patrick sent Anna when he was recently laid off from a job. (REMINDER: While we love to talk to people about their job history we in no way want you to lose jobs! Keep your benefits!) Patrick has been a booker in NYC for a while and booked one of the most popular shows in the New York improv scene, Assscat at UCB (now Raaatscraps). Anna tells Patrick how it rocked her world to get booked as the monologist on this show there before the pandemic. We take it back to Patrick's early jobs and internships which were alllll over map, one of which was picking tobacco as a teenager on a farm. Not your first thought when you hear he's from Connecticut! But then he interned at Sesame Street, so that's a fun change. Also Anna and Patrick manifest their next jobs, which are both to work for Drew Barrymore. Check out all of the incredible shows he books!! And make sure to follow him on Twitter @PatrickCotnoir so he can reach his goal of having more followers than NBC's The Blacklist: Redemption. Don't forget to rate, review, and spread the love (Patreon) for this podcast! And if you want to call in, we love that - give us a call or email us!
We are so lucky to have one of the funniest people and the only 'gay dad in Brooklyn' on the first pod of 2022, Jake Cornell (Going Out Podcast). Jake and Anna catch up about his viral Tiktoks that blew up in the pandemic which you will love if you haven't already seen! They also chat all things restaurant industry and how great it is to work in a NYC restaurant and make friends with your coworkers. Jake talks about what it was like to have his restaurant close down in the pandemic and turn to making videos, which were successful! We take it back to Jake's early jobs of bartending for the first time while studying abroad, bartending in a hotel, and then moving to NYC. We also discuss what it's like to go to restaurants after you've left the industry. Jake is super knowledgable about the best spots in NYC so you gotta go check out his new podcast "Going Out With Jake Cornell" that just launched this week! Anna and Ellen talk soup, literally, and manifest Anna's future cook book! Make sure to listen to all the other episodes, and follow us on social media! You can also email us at TheUnemployedTeam@gmail.com or call us and leave a voicemail about ANYTHING: 929-274-4837 we wanna hear from you! Happy New Year :)
It's the end of the year and so we sat down to give back to the community and give some advice to people who have things to say about their jobs! This is the first IN PERSON episode with Anna and Ellen before covid creeped back into NYC. But this is exciting: we now have a phone number and can take your calls! If you want to call in for our next episode where we can discuss anything you desire, CALL US! 929-274-4837 and leave a message. It will ring a bunch but wait for it. We also have an email for you to write to:TheUnemployedTeam@gmail.com. Get in touch and let us know about your work situation, something you wanna scream out loud to your boss, keep it anonymous, or let it all out! If you need advice we can also give that! On this episode we hear from someone who wants to shout out some sh*t to their old boss at an escape room and from a friend/listener Nate who has a crazy story about the liquor store he owns! This is a really really fun and different episode and we wanna thank you for being a part of this UNEMPLOYED FAM THIS WHOLE YEAR!!! We will be back in 2022 with new episodes :) xoxo
This week's episode is with the hilarious comedian Marcia Belsky (Comedy Central, Tonight Show)! We talk all about Marcia's song "100 Tampons" and how cool it was to have it go super viral in the pandemic with celebrities lip syncing it on TikTok and everyone sharing it. It's so funny, and continues to grow on social media, and honestly was the thing that led Marcia to focusing on doing comedy full-time. But Marcia's had her share of day jobs in customer service, and easily made friends there. And then got her friends on board with her complaints about the job and everyone was ready to revolt. That's why she's our leader of the job revolution! We also talk about doing standup and how different it feels to pack your schedule now that we've lived through a pandemic. Marcia also tells us how she started working more on musical comedy after meeting her writing partner at the coffee shop she worked in. Also, we're fascinated with her love of Glee. Follow Marcia all over @Marciasky and listen to her hilarious songs or watch her Tonight Show performance! Anna and Ellen also discuss their jobs and Anna booked a FUN GIG! So listen to find out.
This week's guest is the fabulous and incredible Winnie Huang. She is a content creator, nail professional, judge on Canada's Next Top Nail Artist, and Anna's friend from a job! They met working together on the awesome app Airtime, and now they're real life friends. Winnie lives in Canada and is a professional nail artist. (Do yourself a favor and follow her incredible instagram @WinnieIsAwesome because her nail art is on another level!) She works with the iconic brand CND, and makes the best content. But before she decided to become a full time creative queen, she had many jobs, and a blog about nails. That blog started to become more and more important and that's how she knew it was time to follow her heart. Growing up in a traditional Chinese family meant she had to get a "real full-time job" and would put her love of nails on the side. However, after putting herself through school she finally took the leap and made it happen. And thank god, because she's won competitions (Next Top Nail Artist), been on TV, worked on fashion shoots and movies, and is killing it. This episode is so much fun because Winnie's energy is infectious! If you love it like we do, leave a review! We love a cute review! For video: Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast
This week we are blessed to have an old friend and one of the funniest, most hardworking comedians on the scene, Ruby Karp! Ruby is a comedian, author of "Earth Hates Me" and senior in college...and yet she had time to be unemployed with us this week! Ruby talks about all of the jobs she's had from her early comedy writing jobs (yes she was a teen), to hosting shows at UCB from a very young age (where she and Anna met), to publishing her book! This episode is so much fun because Ruby is about to graduate and become an adult adult, where she'll be working many jobs! We talk all about what it was like to perform on a show with her when she was an actual child, and how chill her mom was backstage! This episode is full of hilarious stories, including the one where Ruby got to interview Ariana Grande. Ya gotta listen it's too good!!! And then go listen to the rest of the episodes. Also, Ellen and Anna discuss Anna's terrible day and how some of her jobs are dwindling so HIRE HER! (but really give us a cute review, thanks!)
We have an amazing episode this week with comedian and podcast host, Alexis Gay! Alexis hosts the amazing podcast "Non-Technical" where she talks to stars in the tech world about everything BUT their resume. So basically the opposite of this podcast! Alexis is super inspiring because she was working in tech, at startups, at Patreon, and decided to take the leap to leave her full-time job and work for herself doing comedy and starting her podcast. We talk a lot about what it's like to make that transition, and how to set yourself up for a career change. Of course we also talk about her first jobs and her crush on her coworker when she was 16 who she later in life went on a date with which is an amazing juicy story! Anna also gets inspired to call her old crushes to try and make this fairytale happen! The conversation goes deep into the struggle between going for your dreams or going to school and doing what you thought was a traditional path. But if you have the acting bug, you have the acting bug! This is an inspiring episode if you've been thinking about changing your career. Make sure you follow @YayAlexisGay on all platforms and watch her hilarious viral videos and definitely check out Non-Technical Podcast wherever you're listening to your pods these days! Lastly, please check out our Patreon because Patreon is totally the star of this episode lol. *If you want to be on the podcast, email us at TheUnemployedTeam@gmail.com !!
This week we have the amazing comedian Corin Wells on the pod! Corin is a writer for The Amber Ruffin Show on Peacock, as well as a voice actor on Tooning Out The News. But on the day we recorded? She was unemployed! We talk all about her time living at home with her parents during the pandemic and then coming back to NYC and landing 2 amazing jobs. (Hello inspiration right here!) But before these awesome gigs, Corin worked in retail for Bath & Bodyworks, a theater in Philly, the citibike company of Philly, a bidet company, and she temped at Ocean Spray for 2 days (u gotta hear this one). Also she had a lot of call center jobs because her voice is that lovely to listen to! The hookup stories, the drama, and the dedication at her jobs is what makes this episode so special. You're gonna love it, and then follow Corin at @Charity_Corin! Don't forget to review the podcast! Tell us how much you love the company Tushy so Anna can get hired there! Also, Anna and Ellen discuss benefits and Anna's issues with her insurance, naturally! To watch this episode, check out our Patreon. BIG KISS!
It's our 80th birthday!!! And we're still unemployed! We have an amazing guest on this week - she's one of the funniest around town, Lorena Russi! You may know Lorena from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert or her hilarious digital work. She and Anna met doing comedy shows and spent one of the last days before the pandemic at a bizarre commercial audition that Lorena fully remembers and Anna doesn't! Lorena talks to us about all of the jobs she had like random jobs of scrubbing off graffiti around NYC, selling condoms with Obama on them, becoming a professional soccer player, doing improv, quitting improv, moving to Italy to teach, working with groups of people facilitating difficult conversations and the list goes on. Lorena also tells us about learning 'how to be the best person in a workplace' and honestly we shoulda had her on YEARS AGO! This episode is so real, full of heart, and so much fun. Follow Lorena at @colonialmanface all over and watch some of her amazing comedy videos on her website! Don't forget to RATE, REVIEW, and HIRE ANNA & ELLEN for all of your employment needs. Plus, check out our Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast for exclusive video if that's your thing!
On the pod this week we have the very funny Sandi Marx! Sandi is one of the most beloved storytellers of the NYC storytelling community! She is a seven-time Moth StorySLAM champion, and had a successful one woman show at Joe's Pub called, "The Sh*t Show." While she's a performer now, Sandi takes us back to her 10 years as a successful talent agent in New York. But before she worked in show biz, she had a tonnn of random jobs! Starting with working in a jean store as a teen, Sandi had to chalk pants for hemming. We talk about the years she worked at the trade shows in New York where she was a shoe model, a bicycle rep, a toy rep, and Wonder Woman in the subway. She did singing telegrams, sprayed perfume in department stores, she's done it all! But it's the gig to be a butt double for Pat Benatar in a music video that has us cry-laughing on this episode. You're gonna love this episode, because Sandi is a gem! Check out all of her stuff online at @SandiMarx3 or www.SandiJmarx.com for more. Also, RATE, REVIEW, and HIRE US!!! And join our Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast if you have some extra love for us!
For our 78th episode we have an incredible guest - he's a life coach, he's an amazing friend, he's Anna's SoulCycle teacher, he's Noa Shaw! Noa is the author of the book, "Stop Thinking Thoughts That Scare You" (go read it) and hosts the podcast, "I'm Here To Help" which Anna did an episode of. Trust us when we say after getting to know Noa your life will be changed. We discuss so much on this episode as Noa has had a bajillion jobs. We chat about his life changing experience from getting scary news from a doctor to transforming himself and becoming a SoulCycle instructor. Noa is super open about his sobriety and tells some incredible stories about doing drugs, even on jobs, when he was a teenager. He also met a cowboy and spent a year working on a ranch, "terrorizing Texas" as he says, which should be made into a movie. Hard to say what our favorite job was but being an "undercover cop at Bloomingdales" might be our top. You're going to love this episode. It's a full journey! And then when you fall in love with Noa, find him on social media @noashaw26 for more. To watch this episode, check out our Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast. Don't forget to Rate, Review & Hire us!!!
This week on the podcast we have the very funny comedian, Rojo Perez (The Tonight Show)! Rojo talks about navigating the pandemic when he had a bunch of tour dates cancelled, but making it work. Anna and Rojo talk about how it's so hard to imagine going back to a day job when you're removed for so long, even if the stability (and meals?) sound enticing! We of course rewind it back to Rojo's teenage years in Puerto Rico where he worked for his dad's wood rental business. While this is an audio podcast, we love to picture baby Rojo carrying wood all over the place in his heavy gear because he didn't want to get dirty. Anna and Rojo talk about his days of being a referee for different sports, working as a valet parking attendant, and a three week stint exterminating bedbugs. Yeah, the NYC bedbugs. Eventually he became a fulltime comedian but he has so many funny stories and this episode is fire! Leave a review, watch the ep on Patreon, and go follow Rojo on social media - @rojoperezzz for more funny stuff!
This week is a very special episode! Anna and Ellen catch up on what's going on with Unemployment and the news! Spoiler? It's a lot. But recently there have been reports of people who are actually "overemployed" (what?!) and working more than one job remotely at home since the pandemic. Also, some people are doing Twitch shows from hot tubs which is something Anna is considering, since she loves to wear bras as shirts (sign up for that Patreon to watch this episode lol). And of course we discuss the dream job of the guy who dances as Austin Powers at a theme park every single day. We go over some listener submitted stories about jobs and "cover" a wild holiday party story! We take an amazing call on this episode from our new Twitter, Alex, who manages newspaper distribution in Montana. Alex tells us all about his job and how he's moving so he's leaving his job and might be (gulp) unemployed, but not for long because he's wonderful. If you want to submit a job story about ANYTHING to be featured on the podcast, or call in, please email: TheUnemployedTeam@gmail.com or find us on social! (Twitter) @UnemployedPDCST (Instagram) @UnemployedwithAnna We hope to hear from you and feature you or chat with you soon!!
Happy 75th! This week we have on the very funny Gianmarco Soresi (The Downside Podcast)! Gianmarco is a standup comedian, actor, and former singing waiter! We talk all about his acting days from working in a restaurant where he got to perform to moving to New York and working in catering until acting in a bunch of commercials. Of course, he ended up in comedy because sometimes ya do! We of course discuss his conversation with The Rock that recently happened on Twitter where they discuss his shower routine. All the power to Gianmarco who reminded Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson that he watched him perform in 'Hello Dolly' at their alma mater. Gianmarco takes us through a ride of what it's like to move to New York without New York credits and get into audition rooms. Ellen and Anna discuss what life would be like without going on Twitter, which sounds peaceful! It's an amazing episode and we can only hope that The Rock likes it enough to be our next guest. Check out Gianmarco on social media (especially TikTok!) at @GianmarcoSoresi and listen to his new podcast!
This week we are so lucky to have on one of the funniest people I know, the incredible Jo Firestone! You may know Jo from Shrill on Hulu, The Tonight Show, Joe Pera Talks To You, or that CSA she's been getting too many vegetables at each week. We discuss our cooking habits and what to do when you have an overhaul of fresh vegetables (hint: make a soup)! But of course we get into all of the jobs Jo had before she was the success you know & love today and that started at the local food court. Jo got to pass out the chicken samples at Little Tokyo at the mall and she was too honest to keep the job. She then moved onto a pizza place that surprised her with pop quizzes, and landed a gig at an apple orchard. One of her best jobs was working as the kid's entertainer at the apple orchard as "Farmer Jo!" And then when she moved to NY she worked in a coffee shop and catering, and we get into the food service stories. But her favorite job was playing a casting director for someone's marriage proposal! The stories in this episode are hilarious and if you love Jo, this is a must listen! Find Jo on IG at @yoyofirestone and watch Shrill on Hulu!
This week's episode is such a treat! We have the very funny comedian and writer, Sharron Paul (Cheap Date Comedy, Impractical Jokers.) We discuss with Sharron how she's been employed (dare we say "over-employed") throughout the whole pandemic! Also, she got engaged, so she's killing it right now. She's had some awesome gigs and of course we deep dive into her early jobs at day cares, pet sitting, and task rabbit. The stories about her task rabbit days are too funny because we've now learned that people with money will "literally pay for anything." Also, we of course get into our love of 90s bands like N'Sync and The Spice Girls. This episode is one for the books! Check out Sharron on social (@Sharronica) for more laughs. Also, Anna and Ellen discuss Anna's Peloton, naturally, and Ellen's return to an office which is daunting! Make sure you rate and review and HIRE US because it'd mean a lot! (Check out our Patreon too if you dare!)
On this week's episode we have a fun cross over event! We have Brandy Crawford and Dan Brown, hosts of "TV BFFS Podcast" joining us! Their podcast is about people's "Best" "Favorite" and "Forever" TV shows, aka "BFF" (and Anna is on an episode so check that out!) so naturally we talk to them about their Best, Favorite and Forever Jobs. The BEST jobs they ever had, the FAVORITE ones (more personal to them) and the jobs they could do FOREVER! Anna and Ellen also play along and Anna talks about how great her job at HQ was. Aside from this fun game, Dan and Brandy are TV producers who met at a job years ago and became friends over their love of TV. So not only do they watch a lot of it but they produce it! But before this, they both had some fun jobs that we get into as well. It's a really fun and different episode and we're so excited for you to hear it! Follow @TVbffpodast and @deebsontv and @brandycrawford for more fun. And as always, subscribe to our Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast for some extra fun & love.
We are so lucky this week to have on the wonderful, Emmy-nominated director and producer, Ana Breton! Ana works in comedy and has worked on the TV shows "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee," and "The Drew Barrymore Show." Ana began her pandemic by having a baby and then switching jobs to work for Drew Barrymore! But long before these successes, we dive into her job history where she interned for Marie Osmond in Utah, went to school for journalism, wrote and reported about true crime, worked on a documentary about American history, and more! Basically she's had a lot of cool jobs. After moving to NYC she did a lot of video at UCB, and worked as a photographer and videographer for events. One event that you have to hear about was taking photos for Harvey Weinstein's mother's funeral. Yea you read that right. We were just as intrigued as you! Go listen! Also, Anna and Ellen discuss Ellen's college internship she barely remembers, and Anna's high school senior project which was recording a demo lol. Amazing episode all around. Follow the very funny Ana on twitter @MissBreton (if u nasty!) and make sure to RATE, REVIEW, and HIRE US OF COURSE!
We're 70! Finally almost able to retire, right?! JK we love being unemployed. And our guest this week is looking for her dream job so I hope this podcast sends that wish into the universe. We have the coolest guest on, Jo Rosenthal! Jo is a writer, artist, fashion icon, and highly employable. She started her instagram back at an internship at Nylon because they recommended it, which was very smart because she's now cultivated a great following which has helped secure jobs along the way! Jo and Anna discuss a lot of fashion on this episode. Because they love it. They talk about the impact of "influencers" and Jo gives us great insight about the future of the whole influencer culture. Spoiler? It's not what it used to be. Jo tells us about modeling jobs, working in a restaurant, writing fashion content, going to fashion week, painting, and doing it all at the same time to thrive in NYC! She's a hustler and we love that about her. Make sure you follow her @JustJoRosenthal and read all of her amazing articles right now on Byrdie! Also, Anna and Ellen discuss the influencers they follow and how it's a love/hate relationship. We wish we could set ourselves free, but it's fun to keep up with their lives. WOOF! Follow us on social media @UnemployedPDCST, @UnemployedwithAnna and rate/review! (We love that.)
This week's episode is with a very fun guest. She's an entrepreneur, a content strategist, a content creator, and the QUEEN OF CHALLAH, we have Dolly Meckler on the pod! Dolly was introduced to us as "Challah Dolly" which is her business she started up in the pandemic that has become a huge part of her life lately. She sells her challahs wholesale, and you can order. I highly recommend getting your hands on a loaf of her "everything seasoning challah" because I ate a loaf in a night recently. Her story of how she got into this venture is so good and she tells us all the details on this episode. She was new to LA at the beginning of the pandemic, working in social media, and cut to a year later she is selling her challah's at multiple places in New York City. But before baking, she was the president at her sorority, produced a web series in college, and was the person behind all of the tweets for a little HBO show called "Game Of Thrones." Her stories are awesome and you're going to love this episode. Go find Dolly at @DollyMeckler, @ChallahDolly, @HelloDolly and check out all her stuff. Also, watch this episode on our Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast if you're feeling fancy!
This week's episode is with the very funny Connor Ratliff (Dead Eyes Podcast, The George Lucas Talk Show)! Connor actually started his podcast because of a specific story about an audition he once had for the movie Band Of Brothers in which Tom Hanks said he had...dead eyes. It's an incredible story and we are so lucky to have him tell it on this podcast! Don't worry, Connor's had some pretty incredible acting jobs since then, but those memories stick. Of course we talk about his jobs that weren't in entertainment like his longest job (and happiest) at the flagship Barnes and Noble store in New York City. Connor's stories about working at the bookstore are special and he really makes you feel like you're right there with him. Anna and Ellen also talk about the awkwardness of running into people you used to work with and whether it's fun to say hi or just completely ignore them. Do you say hi or hide?! Don't forget to follow Connor at @Connorratliff on social media, and check out his podcast Dead Eyes! Also, if you want to watch this episode? Check out Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast or find us on social media and HIRE US! (rate & review)
This week we are so lucky to have the hilarious comedian Giulia Rozzi on the podcast! She has been on Conan, Comedy Central, and hosts the very funny podcast "Should I Get Bangs?" We chat about everything from how she had a crush on the bad boy of the bagel shop she worked at (wait til you hear what he did), to a job as a life alert call button tester, to working for a cool art non profit company, and of course discuss our love of The Bachelor. Giulia's stories are the BEST and we cannot get enough of them. Especially the one about working for a famous rapper's production company for a very short amount of time. Also we have an awesome lesson about "Scanners" that Giulia explains to us. Are we scanners or did our parents just not work in entertainment?! Listen to find out! Also, Anna and Ellen try out their new format where they catch up at the end of the episode! Are you into it?! Give us feedback on twitter at @UnemployedPDCST or IG @UnemployedWithAnna or TheUnemployedTeam@gmail.com we love to hear from you!! Go follow the brilliant @GiuliaRozzi on social!
It's time for the 66th episode of the pod, and we have an awesome guest, the very funny Dave Schilling! Dave is a TV writer, and he hosts Galaxy Brains podcast, so go check that out after you love Dave on this episode. We talk about social work events and whether or not we should have remote "fun" events or just not be friends with coworkers. Spoiler, he's not there to make friends - he's there to work! We talk about one of Dave's iconic first jobs at Hollister, in the mall. We also discuss his job at the school library, a production internship on the Sony Lot, his thesis film that he keeps locked up because they shot on Super 8 film, a stint in wrestling writing and more! Anna and Ellen discuss the many jobs and lives of Anna and how she has a different resume for each profession. They start their new segment of "reading resumes" (roasting them) and Ellen checks out Anna's resume. She politely gives Anna feedback on the resume, which Anna gracefully accepts! (On air at least haha.) Make sure you follow Dave at @Dave_Schilling and if you're feeling fun? Rate, Review & hit up our Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast. Also send us your resumes to TheUnemployedTeam@gmail.com to be reviewed!
This week's guest is chef, comedian, host, content creator and more, Dariany Santana! Dariany and Anna met working together on a virtual show for Airtime years ago and this was an amazing way to reconnect. They discuss their love of soups, cooking, crunchy rice spicy tuna, her "DMs of the week" and more! But it's the stories Dariany tells from her bat mitzvah dancer days that really make us laugh! Dariany also co-owns a restaurant with her family in NJ that has been killing it lately and we can't wait to go eat there. Dariany tells us all about her awesome show on Fuse that she hosts called, "Struggle Gourmet" which was produced during the pandemic of all times! She's so much fun to hang with and you're gonna love this episode. Make sure to check out all of her content on her channels: @Darianysantana but careful - you will be hungry from her cooking content!!! Anna and Ellen discuss their week and some weird jobs they've had and they want YOU to submit the weirdest jobs you've had (whatever you think is weird) to theunemployedteam@gmail.com for an upcoming episode! Also, RATE, REVIEW, and HIRE US! Wanna watch this ep? Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast
This week's episode is truly a toast! (We drank wine.) We have on Anna's old friend on who you may know as the "Sommvivant," Amanda McCrossin. Amanda is a wine personality, sommelier, content creator, and officially our favorite guest because she sent wine to record this episode! Anna and Amanda talk about how they met doing a job at a dinner theater in a barn in Delaware many moons ago. (Yes you read that correctly!) They share very funny memories from performing together and discuss Amanda's transition into the world of wine. It's so admirable and cool that she followed a path that she was excelling at and we're so excited about all of the success she's had! There will always be theater to go back to! We also totally do a wine tasting on this episode. The first episode where our guest actually gets to do their job on air with us! Make sure you follow @Sommvivant on all social platforms and go check out her podcast @WineAccessUnfiltered! Plus, don't forget to RATE, REVIEW, & SUBSCRIBE to this pod.
This week we have a good friend of Anna's on the podcast, the very funny comedian, Milly Tamarez (Late Night With Judge Milly, All D*ck Is Trash)!! Milly has had some awesome success writing for TV shows in the pandemic! But we of course take it back and talk all about her unemployed days, where she was able to take the time to reevaluate and book some gigs that aren't full time jobs. Milly also was the first guest EVER on livestream show, The Unemployed Show (what this podcast is based on) three years ago. Milly discusses working for her family's hair salon business, working at the bookstore in college, and then working for companies that sent her to Japan multiple times. We can't wait for Milly to take us to Japan one day, since she's an expert. Anna and Ellen discuss how rude it is to ghost someone after interviews. It's preferable to never leave someone hanging! Go follow Milly at @MillyTamarez or @Millyon4ire and watch this ep on the PATREON! Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast - Don't forget to RATE, REVIEW, & HIRE US!
This week we have the wonderful and hilarious Ophira Eisenberg (NPR's A_sk Me Another_, The Moth) on the podcast! Ophira tells us what it has been like to not only work during a pandemic, but also work while her son has been at home. (And she's just as shocked as anyone that she had to raise him herself!?) LOL. She tells us about a comedy gig she booked in Aruba...that didn't happen. But before she was a successful comic and host, Ophira grew up in Canada and worked in her family's grocery store business. She also tells us about working at the coolest place in town which was of course the bead store, which she worked at a few times in her college years. But it's her work in IT and computer labs that really impressed us! Ophira tells the greatest stories and we're so blessed to have them on this episode. It's an hour of laughs, so we hope you love it! Anna and Ellen talk about Ellen's first day back on set for a job and how different things are after not having to leave your apartment for months (years?)... Anna talks about working with Airtime and how much fun she's having working on this app. Follow Ophira at @OphiraE and if you can catch her doing standup? Lucky you!
This week's guest is a very funny comedian and friend, Matthew Broussard (Comedy Central, Conan, Fallon, She Does Standup Too Podcast)! Anna and Matthew reminisce about the Jewish comedic gigs they've gotten throughout the pandemic, some of them that they worked on together! They are the only Jews in comedy in NYC right now, so book them. Before becoming a successful comic, Matthew was a camp counselor in Texas, worked as an analyst in finance, and even worked remotely (before it was a thing in a pandemic). But it's the story about having his car broken into and losing his job the same day he was in the middle of a comedy competition that we love. Matthew's perseverance is inspiring, and he is the definition of working toward what you want to do! You're gonna love this Ep. Anna and Ellen also discuss Anna's ballsy move of sending a message through LinkedIn for a company she wants to work for. A DM on LinkedIn in 2021?! Unheard of! Though they probably will never read it, it felt powerful to try. Make sure to follow Matthew on all socials @MondayPunday and listen to his podcast She Does Stand Up Too? Follow us @UnemployedPDCST / @UnemployedwithAnna and make sure to check out our patreon for full videos of the episodes!
This week, we're turning 60!!! 60 and Fabulous. And we have an amazing guest on, the hilarious Morgan Miller (Famously Dumped Podcast)! Morgan and Anna are old friends so they reminisce about their wild partying days from way back, and it's an awesome reunion. They also get into Morgan's jobs, starting with collecting pine cones. Anna and Morgan get into their time as Office Managers who were hungover a lot at work (because of comedy at night). Morgan also toured colleges, waited tables in Union Square, did some nannying, and coached a lot of improv before she up and left for LA! Then there was a pandemic and she started an awesome podcast. Also, Anna and Ellen discuss an article about unpaid internships and how many millennials went through this and weren't told it was wrong to work for free when it's totally wrong!!! Knowing your worth is so important, even from the beginning. It's an ongoing conversation, so please let us know your stories of shitty internships! This is a really special episode and we THANK YOU for being a part of this journey with all of us for 60 episodes!!! Follow @MorganMiller17, @UnemployedPDCST, and watch this video on Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast. RATE, REVIEW, & HIRE US!!!
We're back with a hot new episode with our friend and very funny comedian Monroe Martin (Comedy Central, Fallon)! Monroe and Anna reminisce about their days of going into the Buzzfeed office to shoot the show, "Did You See This" that they both still work on remotely! We talk about needing more space in an apartment when quarantined with a partner, which is essential now. Monroe talks about all of his early jobs in Philly like working at Planned Parenthood and making up what he thought sex was, The Zoo where he entertained the people, a year-round Halloween store, Mcdonalds where his coworkers taught him to take the food. Monroe's stories are awesome, and it's cool to learn about how he was inspired to become a comedian. Ellen and Anna talk about getting covid tests for jobs even if you're vaxxed. Also, they discuss that they've been vaxxed which is a brag on a pod these days! Follow @MonroeMartinIII on social, @UnemployedPDCST, check out our Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast, and go RATE, REVIEW, & HIRE US!!
This week's episode is so much fun! We've got the hilarious Andrea Lopez (NBC Bring The Funny, Comedy Central) on the podcast! We are coworkers at Buzzfeed together who've never met! So this is a special moment. We talk about her jobs in radio, driving for Uber, and of course her stint in hard news, where she covered a murder trial for a local news channel. But then she realized she was more of a comedian. She's an amazing impressionist, so naturally we discuss the Kardashians (and play a lil trivia), and Jennifer Coolidge - who she got to have drinks with and this story is everything! Andrea creates so much content, she edits, and she has a ton of encouraging words for all of us! We can't wait to get drinks IRL with Andrea! Also on this episode, Anna and Ellen discuss the Blockbuster documentary, because sadly a lot of people were unemployed after they started closing! Ellen worked in a film store, and then went to film school, which we love for her. Also, they talk about the rituals of going to the video store, and Anna's return to a movie theater.
This week we have the wonderful Sarah Pribis (Living The Damn Dream, HQ Trivia, Tsu) on the pod! Even though we worked for the same company, we never met on the job! It's a lovely reunion for Ellen and Sarah though! Before she was an actress/comedian/host, she worked in retail, she did some nannying, she worked in restaurants, she bartended - she did it all!! We also talk about the first few weeks of the quarantine when we did an Instagram Live together early and continued to catch up over the year. Of course we get into Sarah's HQ history and how she got hired there, as well answer some fan-submitted questions! Also the 3 of us had other jobs when we started at HQ so we had to figure out how to balance it all! Naturally, Ellen and Anna discuss Anna's budding influencer or shall we say skin-fluencer career and her love of skincare products. Also they put it out in the universe that they'd like Domino's to sponsor the podcast. Go check out Sarah's podcast Living The Damn Dream & follow her @SarahPribis! To watch the full episode, find us on Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast.
We have one of the best on the podcast this week! Our friend and hilarious comedian, Sebastian Conelli (Loud About Nothing Podcast) is with us and we're gettin loud together baby! We compare how many unread emails we have in our phones, which is either a brag or a problem...we compare Jews & Italians and how important our meals are. We talk about Sebastian's gig of teaching improv over zoom and how much fun he's having. We dive deep into his earlier jobs like being a busboy at Applebee's where he mostly partied, moving to a fry cook job in the back of house of a restaurant, and then studying to become an engineer. But it's the possible mafia run in that wins us over. Anna and Ellen discuss the stimulus bill and highlight what some people are going to do with their money and where they're going to spend it. It's everything from Dominoes to paying off debt to buying cosplay and we respect it all! Go check out Sebastian's podcast Loud About Nothing @LoudAboutNothing and find him online at @SebastianConelli! And don't forget, if you're into this podcast? Check out our Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast and RATE, REVIEW, HIRE US! Thanks love you.
This week's episode is so much fun. We have the very funny Kelly Hudson (The Squirt Podcast, Make Me Like It Podcast) on the pod this week! Kelly has had many many jobs and we're blessed to have learned about all of them! Kelly worked as a mascot at a bookstore, she worked at The Gap, she was a barista, an editor, ice cream scooper, sandwich artist, and even more that you'll find out about! Also, she was a parking booth attendant in college and really found herself there...yes what you're thinking is what we're saying...haha. It's an epic story and we are grateful that she shared this with us. Men aren't the only ones!!! Kelly also is an accomplished comedy writer, editor, and actress, and she worked with Ellen at Adult Swim! Anna and Ellen discuss paperwork for jobs...and how Anna feels dumb for not being able figure out how to do it! But it's not her fault - no one teaches you that! Check out Kelly's work on her website https://www.kellyqehudson.com/ and don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & HIRE US! hey thanks
This week's guest on the podcast is the very funny Alise Morales (Our Cartoon President, The Roast of Your Teenage Self Podcast)! Alise plays AOC on Our Cartoon President, and she's Twitter friends with AOC. Jobs can lead to cool stuff!! But before this, Alise had a bunch of fun jobs, like her first one at a Subway! Another alumni of the sandwich artist community on the pod. She also hosted at a restaurant that had a smoking section, which made it cool to smoke on the job. And, she worked at a camp that was very culty...which is probably what Anna also worked at but didn't realize at the time. We also get to hear about her first jobs in NYC, like working for TodayTix and babysitting for mean, wealthy kids! Anna and Ellen discuss ways of signing off emails. What is the best way to do it? Is it "Best"? "Sincerely"? Please let us know your preference before we correspond through email lol. Don't forget to follow @AliseNavidad and listen to her podcast! And as always, follow @UnemployedPDCST, and check out our Patreon! Patreon.com/UnemployedPodcast we post the videos on there!
This week we have the one & only hilarious Jessica Kirson (Disgusting Hawk Podcast, Relatively Sane Podcast) on the podcast! Jessica is a professional comedian now, but before? She worked in retail, she bartended, and she almost became a therapist. She had all the odd jobs in her 20s and we're so lucky to have learned about them on this episode. But leave it to her grandmother to tell her she needed to become a comedian. (And you listen to your grandmother!) And because she's a Jew you know Anna and Jessica had to catch up about their camp days, because that's step 1 in Jewish geography. We talk about her family full of showbiz pros and how she came up with all the silly characters she plays in her act. It's a super fun episode and it feels like we've known each other for years! Ellen and Anna celebrate the one year anniversary of the day they were laid off from their job on Valentine's Day and share their memories of what happened to them that day. It's bittersweet! Don't forget to follow Jessica Kirson (@JessicaKirson) on social, and if you wanna see the video? Patreon.com/unemployedpodcast.com - PLEASE RATE, REVIEW, SUBSCRIBE! Thanks
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, The Bradshaw Boys joined the Unemployed Podcast for Episode 52! We're so blessed to have Cory Cavin, Kevin James Doyle, and Jon Sieber, the hilarious hosts of the podcast The Bradshaw Boys on this week's episode! We talk all about their jobs they had before deciding to watch all of Sex And The City for the first time as grown adult men. We also discuss the jobs of the characters on SATC, because how was Carrie able to afford that apartment by writing a column and a book? And who made the most money on the show? After learning about Kevin's tour guiding days, we all come up with the next biggest NYC tour that you'll have to sign up for when it's safe. Jon famously coins the next best holiday that could rival Christmas, in the workplace. Cory brings back the popular game, "Leisure Suit Larry" that he discovered on a job when he was a kid while taking care of his neighbor's dog. The stories in this episode are SO much fun. So leave a fun review! And go listen to The Bradshaw Boys (Anna's on an episode!) because their podcast is the best. And now onto our next 50 episodes! This week we have the very funny comedian and writer, Kelly Bachman on the show! Kelly is also one of the last comedians Anna saw at a show before the pandemic, so this is a sweet reunion of sorts! Although she's currently unemployed, she's got a very inspiring and admirable schedule to be productive: She "imagines she has a fellowship that will be ending at the end of the month." And convinces herself of this each month! She tricks herself! It's brilliant. And that's how she's managing to write a book, which we can't wait to read. She once worked at a Subway as a sandwich artist, she's been an assistant and other jobs at a film production company. We also talk about how companies try to fire you nicely. And of course we discuss the time when she performed onstage in front of Harvey Weinstein and called him out! Ellen and Anna break down the "5 to 9" Squarespace Superbowl commercial and how they feel about it, since it kind of sums up a lot of people's lives.Epic episode, go follow Kelly (@BellyKachman) for more laughs, and go listen to all 50 other episodes! We discuss his time working at a snack bar at a pool, and Ruby Tuesday's, where a whole world was opened up for him. We chat about hooking up at your place of work, which some people do. Also Tim tells us about a dramatic breakup at the bar he worked at, his experience working in theme parks, and his stories are the best! This week's guest is the very funny comedian and content creator Maria DeCotis! You may remember Maria's Governor Cuomo videos throughout the pandemic, or caught some of her other funny videos online! But today she's here to tell us about her other jobs, which have been everything from working in retail at Urban Outfitters to becoming ordained and marrying people! Hot tip? She's still marrying people, over Zoom, in a pandemic, and we love that this is happening. Anna and Maria bond over Boston University where they both went to college (but never met!) and talk about Maria's jobs working at school. Plus, we get a taste of the phone call she had with Cuomo when he praised her for her videos! Also on the episode, Ellen follows Anna on Linked In and Anna thinks it's a prank until she tells her it's not.
