Now that you’ve made it through your Netflix queue, you might be wondering when sports are coming back. After sports leagues postponed their seasons back in March, some - like the National Women’s Soccer League - are stepping back onto the field for the first time. We’ll break down the efforts and challenges in keeping players safe. And talk to one league that’s knocking it out of the park: the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (aka: roller derby.) Also, in case you missed it: the Chinese government has taken its boldest step yet in eliminating freedoms of Hong Kong residents. We’ll tell you how this latest move by China has a global impact.  And finally, we’re talking about getting into 'good trouble.' As in the new documentary "John Lewis: Good Trouble." The film’s producer Erika Alexander shared how lessons from Lewis’s life fighting for social justice starting in the 1960s are just as relevant to social movements today.  On this episode, you’ll hear from:  Kelley O’Hara, two-time World Cup champion, Utah Royals FC defender and member of the US Women's National Team, and host of the new podcast, Just Women’s Sports Dr. Jonathan Kim, chief of sports cardiology in the division of cardiology at Emory University Erica Vanstone, Executive Director of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association Erika Alexander, producer of "John Lewis: Good Trouble"  Let us know what questions you have about what’s going on in the news right now. The US Women’s National Team is one of the most successful football teams in history. They are also in the unique situation of being one of the few sports franchises in which the women’s team is more successful than the men’s. Unfortunately, though, this hasn’t been enough to convince the United States Soccer Federation that equality in payment should be guaranteed across both teams. For over a year now, players on the US Women’s National team have been battling their federation in the law courts in a bid to reach parity with the men. In this episode, we explore the ins and outs of the US Women’s National Team’s lawsuit against the USSF and ask: how will US soccer come back from this?  Guest: Kelsey Trainor (@ktrain_11) is an entertainment lawyer and sports writer Follow us: @FT_Podcast_ www.FootballTodayPodcast.com

Well. It's been quite a week in US Soccer. The Federation has a new president in Cindy Parlow Cone, who takes over after Carlos Cordeiro resigned in the aftermath of charged legal filings in the Equal Pay lawsuit filed by the US Women's National Team. Cordeiro's fate was sealed as the backlash from media, fans and sponsors threatened to overwhelm the Federation. The Fed has a lot of work to do to clean up this mess, and it's an open question whether Cordeiro leaving will resolve the problems. To talk about what led to Cordeiro's ouster, I called up fellow attorney Neil Blackmon and Kartik Krishnaiyer, both of whom are observers of the Men's and Women's National team, as well as the Federation. The Grumpy Ref discusses FIFA Law changes for 2020 soccer season, but first, Brodee Scott and Tim Van Horn take you through the soccer world.  Recent results have people talking.  In England, the focus has been on the 4th Round of the FA Cup. The Manchesters (yes, the red side of the city, too) were in high gear, easily dispensing away lower league opponents. Of course, it was an absolute cake walk for English Premier League leaders Liverpool, right?  Well, not so fast! Some shrewd moves by Shrewsbury Town has become a pebble in Scouser shoes! The sports world lost a basketball superstar, who was also a massive soccer fan, in a tragic weekend accident.  Brodee and Tim talk about Kobe Bryant the soccer fan.  Why was he a fan? When did he become a fan? Which team did he support?  Bryant was friend of the soccer world who will be missed. There was plenty of league action around the globe, and it's becoming evident that a few teams are looking to assert dominance at the top of their respective tables.  On the other hand, red flags are going up at some clubs as they have already begun a fight to avoid a draining relegation battle. The US Women's National Team start their Olympic Qualifying campaign this week, and for some it will be their last chance for one more championship before retirement. Staying on the domestic front, Major League Soccer, the USL & other leagues are in preseason camp preparing for the 2020 season.  The guys will an updates on the big news of the week. The Transfer Window only has a sliver open, closing in a few days.  Some clubs are scrambling for a difference maker in a title chase, while other just need help to survive.  Brodee and Tim will also review who needs more than a bag of ice in this episode's Injury Report. Sneaky Good 61: Early Pre-season Talk, the USWNT, and Kneeling on Ole Miss It's a full-booth extravaganza as Poseur and Chris pack Seth (@SethGalina) and Jake (@jake_nazar) in to talk about how the SEC West looks this early in the pre-season, will anyone else be able to break into the 1-2 spots occupied by Alabama and LSU, why the US Women's National Team are such bullies, and why you should always, always, humiliate Ole Miss by kneeling with the lead with six minutes or more left in the game. Dan, Dave, and Geoff are all here! Dan opens the show by discussing his first encounter with a unicorn of a Beta Male. Who knew guys like this actually existed? We thought they were like Big Foot or El Chupucabra. Al Avila gets a multi-year extension as the Tigers' GM. So many people are barking mad about this. Everybody calm down. We are here to explain why this isn't great, but it's also not a reason to get in a frenzy when you have a historically bad ball club on the field. We watched more porn on the show tonight because Dan makes another Freudian slip... The US Women's National Team captured it's second consecutive World Cup...and we're mad at them for expressing their right to free speach? Where have we seen this before? Also, Dan says some unsavory things about the American Flag to help you understand that it's really not as important as some folks want to make it out to be. Would you use the Flag to put your mother out if she were on fire? Think about it. Ben Askrin makes UFC history in the worst way possible. We have discovered the winner of the bottle cap challenge...Nobody is "beating" this one if you know what I mean. Finally, the Pistons are not getting Russell Westbrook. It's for the best. The top end of mediocre...is still mediocre. And the Clippers saved the NBA's watchability at the 11th hour by finding a way to land Kawhi Leonard. Learn more about your ad choices. Well, Maria sits down with mystic, poet and visionary leader, Deirdre Hade to talk all about self-love and where to start, as well as finding your purpose and pursuing your passion.
