Episode 369: Dr. Kelly Casperson, interviewed by Sarah Reardon What happens when a urologic surgeon who has spent years treating women's bladder and sexual health sits down to answer every question she wishes her patients had asked sooner? You get this episode. In a role reversal from her usual hosting chair, Dr. Kelly Casperson is interviewed by Sarah Reardon for a wide-ranging, myth-busting conversation on perimenopause, hormone therapy, and what it actually means to advocate for yourself in a medical system that has historically under-served women. No gatekeeping. No fear-mongering. Just the science, the nuance, and the permission to want more. Perimenopause is not just hot flashes. The hormonal shifts of perimenopause and menopause affect your bladder, your sleep, your joints, your skin, your mood, and your sex life — often years before your period stops. Kelly breaks down what's actually happening biologically and why so many women are told their symptoms are "just aging." Local estrogen and systemic HRT are not the same thing — and you may need both. Vaginal estrogen treats the tissue. Systemic hormone therapy treats the whole person. Kelly explains the difference, who benefits from each, and how to have an informed conversation with your provider about what's right for you. DHEA and testosterone belong in the conversation. These hormones are not just for men. Kelly covers the evidence for testosterone and DHEA in women's health — including delivery methods, indications, and why so many women are never offered them. Finding a knowledgeable provider is hard. Here's how to do it. Not every clinician is trained in hormone therapy. Kelly talks about how to identify providers who are, and how to self-educate enough to advocate effectively in any appointment. Gut health, exercise, and alcohol all matter — but not instead of hormones. Lifestyle strategies can amplify hormone therapy; they're not a replacement for it. Kelly cuts through the supplement noise and explains what the evidence actually supports. Gender bias is real, and naming it is the first step. From the Women's Health Initiative fallout to the way women's pain is routinely minimized, Kelly addresses the systemic forces that have shaped (and limited) what women are offered — and how to push back. In this episode, I sit down with Cynthia Thurlow, nurse practitioner, TEDx speaker, and author of The Menopause Gut, to unpack what is really happening inside the body during this transition. We get into why so many women suddenly feel bloated, constipated, reactive to foods, inflamed, and resistant to weight loss, even when they are eating well and doing all the "right" things. Cynthia breaks down the gut-hormone connection in a way that is smart, practical, and incredibly eye-opening. We also go deeper into leaky gut, digestive enzymes, bile, hydrochloric acid, short-chain fatty acids, fiber, stress, trauma, mitochondria, and why simply putting a woman on HRT is sometimes not enough. This is one of those conversations that makes you realize menopause is not just about your ovaries. It is a full-body shift, and the gut is right in the middle of it. In this episode, we cover: Why the gut is one of the most overlooked systems affected by menopause How declining estrogen and progesterone impact digestion and motility Why women often experience more bloating, constipation, and food sensitivities in midlife The connection between gut health, inflammation, immune changes, and weight loss resistance Why digestive enzymes, stomach acid, and bile production can all become compromised What leaky gut is and why it may become more common during perimenopause and menopause How stress, trauma, and the nervous system can worsen gut and hormone symptoms Why fiber still matters, even if your gut is struggling The role of mitochondria, sleep, movement, and lifestyle foundations in gut recovery Why HRT can help, but often is not the whole story   Visit Cynthia's website here.     Sponsors Try Mito Q Hormone and metabolic control mitoq.com/karenmartel Code: MARTEL10 Get 30% off BATCH Gummies. Jane Wang brings a rare cross-disciplinary lens to one of fitness's oldest problems: member retention. With a background in clinical research, mortality risk, and 12+ years in corporate wellness, Jane shares why the industry's approach to churn is fundamentally flawed — and what a data-driven, human-centered model looks like. What We Cover: Jane's background — From HIV research and ovarian cancer trials to building tech for 7M+ members at Opt Why retention is broken — The industry measures daily/weekly/monthly activity but ignores the full lifecycle of a member Life stages & churn — Having a baby, moving cities, changing jobs: why no text message can fix structural churn The "no" that means "not right now" — Treating lapsed members like a long-term sales relationship Life events in insurance vs. fitness — How life insurers market around milestones and why gyms should too Joyful nudges vs. aggressive ones — Why over-messaging kills retention and joy-driven UX wins The female fitness opportunity — Women are 60–90% of class-based gym users, but most products are built by and for men Cyclical health design — Why female biology demands a different measurement framework Candy Crush vs. Call of Duty — The massive underserved female market and what light gamification unlocks Social connectedness as a magic metric — Facebook's early retention lesson applied to gyms; women average 8–9 challenge buddies vs. men's 1–2 Fidgital — Physical + digital experiences that create lasting loyalty (Apple as the model) The data stack — Subscription data → usage/check-ins → wearables → zip codes → behavioral triangulation How Opt's challenges work — 1-day to 2-week gamified events that surface persona, personality, and device data with no tech lift for partners EGM Genius AI — A real-world fidgital example from the gym floor What Jane needs — Partners with 100K+ member footprints to help scale from 7M to 100M members OUR SPONSORS:

GUESTS: Ron Meyer is a seasoned paranormal experiencer, with encounters ranging from out-of-body experiences and cryptid sightings to non-dual awakenings. He is the owner of Centre Communications, a film production company, and has produced and directed feature films in Hollywood. Recently, he produced "Becoming Evil," the number one streaming documentary series on Amazon Prime about serial killers. In September 2023, Centre Communications premiered the feature film "The Mysteries of Bradshaw Ranch: Aliens, Portals, and the Paranormal" at a conference in Vernal, adjacent to Skinwalker Ranch. During the movie's production, the crew encountered intelligent alien entities and other paranormal phenomena. The film is slated for release in early 2024. Mark Reeder is a paranormal skeptic and experiencer who resides in Boulder, Colorado. He has served as a writer and associate producer for Centre Communications, a video production company. There are SO many pressures that are put on us women – like to get married, to have kids, to have an amazing career – ALL at the same time and before it's “too late”.  So it's sadly no surprise at all how many women end up succumbing to the MASSIVE pressures and just give up on finding Mr. Right, or the job that they're actually passionate about, and settle in the hopes that it will make everyone else (even the mailman) happy.  And we all know how that goes, right?? You end up living everyone else's life and you are left feeling like an empty shell of that amazing woman that you either used to be or the woman that you know that you can be! So on this episode of Women of Impact, I wanted to bring on someone who stood her ground despite the INSANE pressures, broke the mold of what everyone expected of her, and got back up, even when life kept knocking her down!  This inspiring woman has it ALL - the career, the marriage, and the family - without giving in or settling. BUT (and of course there's a catch), she didn't do it until she was frikin' 48 years old and most people said it was too late for her.  Today's guest is journalist, talk show host, and author Tamron Hall!!  Now homies, you KNOW I believe in my core that age is just a number and you should NEVER let it stop you from making your dreams come true, and Tamron couldn't be a better frikin' role model to learn from!  In this episode, we dig into:  - How to maintain your confidence and get back up, even when you've been fired, left ANOTHER bad relationship, or feel like you're “past your prime” - Why you need to bet on yourself if you want to actually make changes in your life   - Tamron's genius way of thinking about everything in your life as preparation  - How to handle people calling you difficult  - How to stay open to a man coming into your life, even when you think it's “too late” for you - And so much more!!   Let me tell you guys, by the end of this episode, you will know exactly what you need to do to, no matter what age you are, to take your power back in your life, not let challenges knock your confidence down, and do what you need to frikin' do to make your dreams a reality WITHOUT settling or succumbing to anyone else's pressures in life!! You're doing all the things.  They don't work.  You've changed things.  That doesn't work either.  If it seems you're going through a revolving door of symptoms and trying to juggle responses but failing, this is for you.  It's not just that exercise needs change.  Periodically, by the way.  Every quarter during perimenopause, or at least bi-annually if you're experiencing significant changes, you have to look closely at whether your exercise is causing inflammation or supporting muscle that will help you deal with it. It doesn't matter if you're lifting, you can still be in a moment of significant storm that results in your inflammation being up when recovery isn't keeping up.  We discuss the ways women doing all the things can still fail you if you're not getting the foundation you need at the place you need it. We discuss cellular health, liver, detox and the key part these play in whether your lifting, walking and intervals will work.  If you're ready to stop spinning your wheels and start seeing results, this conversation will change how you approach doing all the things. My Guest: As Co-Owner and Chief Brand Officer of BodyBio, Jess Kane Berman leads brand strategy, education, and global growth, shaping the company's voice at the intersection of cellular health, environmental wellness, and evidence-based medicine. Jess blends science-backed insights with practical application, empowering women to move away from doing more and toward doing what's right for them. Passionate about cutting through confusion, she helps women simplify their approach to fitness, nutrition, and overall health so they can feel stronger, energized, and back in control. More cosmetic surgeries are performed on the chest than almost anywhere else on the body, with breast implants leading the way. Not long ago, “bigger is better” defined the ideal, but we're seeing a shift toward smaller, more natural results. So what's driving that change? Today, we're diving into the world of chest surgery, and what it reveals about beauty, power, and the making of the “ideal” breast. I am joined once again by Sarah Thornton, a sociologist, non-fiction writer, and author of four critically acclaimed books. Thornton's most widely read book is Seven Days in the Art World, which is translated into over 20 languages. Her latest is titled, Tits Up: The Top Half of Women's Liberation, which explores the significance of breasts across radically different social worlds. Some of the specific topics we explore include: How common are breast implants today? How have aesthetic goals shifted over time? What shapes patient preferences in augmentation? Are there cross-cultural differences in breast augmentation? How do augmentation, reconstruction, and reduction differ in purpose and meaning? Check out Sarah’s website to learn more about her work. This episode is brought to you by Fatty15, Audible, and Strong Coffee Company. Most women are told their fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, and poor sleep in midlife are just "normal aging"—but this episode exposes the real root cause: a breakdown in the gut-hormone connection driven by declining estrogen, chronic stress, and a disrupted microbiome. Cynthia Thurlow reveals how these hidden internal shifts create inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, and hormonal chaos—and why traditional approaches often fail to fix it. More importantly, she explains how to reverse the trajectory by addressing the true drivers: gut health, sleep quality, and stress resilience. If you've been doing "all the right things" and still feel off, this conversation reframes the problem—and gives you a path forward rooted in biology, not guesswork. I break down what people really mean when they talk about “daddy issues” and the deeper father wound that often goes unspoken. I explore how a woman's relationship with her father can shape the way she experiences love, trust, and validation in adulthood. We look at the patterns that emerge - not from blame, but from understanding - and how these dynamics show up in relationships. Most importantly, I talk about what it takes to recognize and break these cycles so they don't keep repeating.SHOW HIGHLIGHTS00:00 - The “Daddy Issues” Conversation Begins00:45 - Why This Isn't About Blaming Fathers01:20 - Absence, Inconsistency & Emotional Distance02:05 - How Love Gets Wired Through Instability03:10 - Chasing Validation in Relationships04:05 - Not Evil, But Conditioned07:25 - Seeing Love Through the Lens of Betrayal11:40 - Pushing Away What You Actually Need16:10 - How the Father Wound Shapes Identity21:30 - Repeating the Same Relationship Patterns27:05 - Awareness as the Turning Point31:10 - What Isn't Healed Will Repeat***Tired of feeling like you're never enough? You've probably had at least one friendship belief you were sure about… until life proved you wrong. Maybe it was the idea that your two best friends are all you need, or that men just "do friendship better," or that conflict is the beginning of the end. These beliefs feel true until they don't.In this solo episode, Danielle gets personal about the friendship beliefs she once held that have completely shifted since doing this work. She pulls from the research, her own relationships, and nearly a decade of studying women's relational patterns to explain why some of our most popular ideas about friendship are actually keeping us stuck, and what to believe instead.

The Future of HR team advises, implements, and helps business and HR leaders drive business and workforce outcomes through Deloitte's knowledge and practical understanding of HR operating models, processes, AI and automation capabilities, HR technology and vendor partner strategies, and evolving HR skills and capabilities. Forrest also serves as the dean of Deloitte's Next Generation CHRO Academy, bringing together senior HR leaders aspiring for the CHRO role to advance their careers. Takeaways:  1. The AI Conversation Has Moved On — and That's a Good Thing A year ago, every conference session was about AI features. In 2026, the more important question has taken center stage: what should humans be doing? Organizations that are answering that question well are investing in the uniquely human capabilities — creativity, presence, novel thinking, relationship-building — that AI cannot replicate. 2. No Generation Is Primarily Motivated by Pay Alone Deloitte's research across all four workforce generations is consistent: salary is table stakes, not a differentiator. Purpose, mental wellbeing, financial wellness, and a sense that the company cares about the whole person are what actually move the needle on attraction and retention. 3. Mental Wellbeing Benefits Are Now a Business Outcome, Not a Perk The link between employee stress and productivity is well-documented. Organizations that invest in mental health benefits aren't just being compassionate — they're protecting output, engagement, and retention. Gen Z's comfort with this dialogue has accelerated adoption across the board. 4. The Sandwich Generation Is the Next Big Benefits Frontier A growing number of employees are simultaneously raising children and caring for aging parents. This dual caregiving burden creates stress, distraction, and leave risk that compounds over time. Benefits that help employees navigate elder care — not just time off, but actual guidance and support — are going to become a significant differentiator in the next few years. 5. Women's Health Benefits Have an Underserved Second Chapter The fertility benefits conversation has expanded — but Kyle points to a significant gap: supporting mothers through recovery, healing, and the early transition to parenthood after birth. There is growing investment in this space, and the companies that get ahead of it will have a meaningful advantage. 6. How a Company Handles Pregnancy Loss Is Now Part of Its Employer Brand Word travels fast — especially on social media. How an organization supports an employee through the loss of a pregnancy or a failed IVF cycle is the kind of story that gets shared widely. It's become a visible signal of company culture and values that candidates and current employees pay attention to. 7. Benefits ROI Lives in Attrition and Time-to-Hire Data Kyle's framework for building the business case: calculate the cost of slow hiring and high attrition, then show how the right benefits mix moves those numbers. Unfilled roles have a direct revenue impact — and retaining the right people means not missing out on sales, delivery, or growth. 8. Performance Psychology Coaching Is the Most Interesting New Benefits Category Drawing on decades of research in elite sports, performance psychology coaching helps employees handle high-pressure moments, navigate stress, and show up at their best — consistently. It's distinct from traditional mental health services and addresses a different, underserved need in the workforce. 9. Asynchronous Interviewing Is Democratizing the Candidate Pipeline Tools that let candidates complete interviews and skills assessments on their own time — at 5:30 AM before work or after putting the kids to bed — are surfacing qualified candidates who would have otherwise been filtered out by scheduling friction. Companies using these tools are finding people they would have missed. 10. Modern HR's Job Is Strategy, Not Inquiry The more benefits navigation and routine HR questions can be handled through technology and concierge services, the more HR professionals can focus on what actually moves the business: partnering with leaders to personalize benefits for their specific workforce mix, build better teams, and make smarter people decisions. CHAPTERS:  00:00 – Welcome Back, Kyle Adam welcomes Kyle Forrest back for his third appearance and sets up what's different about Transform 2026 compared to previous years. 02:00 – The Shift: From AI Features to Human Value Kyle's big observation from the conference circuit: last year was about AI products; this year is about what work should remain human — and why that's the more important conversation. 04:30 – What AI Still Can't Do The uniquely human capabilities that no model can replace: being present in the room, generating novel ideas, building real relationships, and innovating in ways that go beyond the existing body of human knowledge. 07:00 – Four Generations, One Workforce, Zero Agreement on Pay Deloitte's generational research shows that across Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers, salary alone is not the primary motivator — and what that means for how companies structure total comp. 09:30 – Mental Wellbeing as a Business Outcome How Gen Z's comfort with mental health dialogue has pushed organizations to take wellness benefits more seriously — and the research linking stress reduction directly to productivity and engagement. 12:00 – The Sandwich Generation Problem A growing segment of the workforce is simultaneously caring for kids and aging parents. Kyle makes the case for why navigation benefits for elder care aren't just nice to have — they're becoming critical. 15:00 – Benefits That Remove Burden from HR How smart benefits design reduces the volume of questions HR has to field — freeing people professionals to spend time with business leaders on strategic workforce decisions instead. 17:30 – The Modern Role of HR Kyle's take on how the HR profession has evolved over nearly 100 years — and where it needs to go next: less inquiry-answering, more personalized workforce strategy in partnership with business leaders. 20:00 – Fertility Benefits and the Overlooked Healing Journey The growing investment in women's health benefits — and the often-missed opportunity to support mothers not just through the fertility journey, but through recovery, healing, and the transition to parenthood. 23:00 – Supporting Loss in the Workplace A candid moment: how companies show up for employees who experience pregnancy loss or failed IVF is becoming a visible differentiator — and word spreads fast, in both directions. 25:30 – The ROI Case for Benefits Investment Kyle's framework for justifying benefits spend: tie it to time-to-hire, attrition rates, and the measurable revenue impact of unfilled roles and disengaged employees. 28:00 – Performance Psychology Coaching One of the most interesting emerging benefits: coaching that applies lessons from elite sports psychology to help employees navigate stress, pressure, and high-stakes moments at work. 30:30 – TA Tech Innovation: Interviewing on Your Time The candidate experience innovation Kyle is most excited about: asynchronous interview and skills assessment tools that let candidates go through the process at 5:30 AM or after bedtime — and the pipeline results companies are seeing. 33:00 – Where to Find Kyle & Deloitte's Research Kyle points listeners to Deloitte's Insights to Action platform and his LinkedIn for the latest research and workforce intelligence.

Qe don't talk about sports a lot on this show. But today, we are—because this is really a story about money.Right now, women's sports are having a moment. Investment is pouring in, media deals are growing, and athletes are finally starting to see bigger paychecks. But this isn't just about what's happening at the professional level. It's also about what it takes to even get in the game. Youth sports are getting more expensive, access is shrinking, and yet the research shows that girls who play sports are more likely to become leaders, earn more, and build wealth over time.So there's a bigger question here: What does this moment mean for women—and our financial future?Today, we're digging into the economics of women's sports, the controversy around athletes like Eileen Gu making bold financial moves, and why this could be one of the most important—and overlooked—wealth stories right now.My guest is Tess Waresmith, investing educator and former athlete, who's connecting the dots between sports, opportunity, and financial power. If you're a woman in your 30s, 40s, or 50s feeling like your body is betraying you, this episode reveals the hormonal, gut, and environmental triggers behind perimenopause that most doctors never address, and exactly what you can do about it. -Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Cynthia Thurlow, a nurse practitioner, CEO and founder of the Everyday Wellness Project, and a globally recognized expert in intermittent fasting and women's hormonal health. Her TEDx talk on intermittent fasting has surpassed 10 million views, and she brings over 20 years of functional medicine clinical experience to one of the most underserved conversations in longevity and human performance. Together, they tear apart the outdated medical narrative around perimenopause and menopause, exposing how a lack of knowledge, not biology, is destroying relationships, careers, and quality of life for millions of women. Dave and Cynthia dig into the gut microbiome's role in every symptom women experience in midlife, the mold toxin that is 10,000 times more potent than human estrogen and directly linked to hormonal chaos, and why biohacking your hormones as early as 35 could be the most important longevity move a woman makes. They also cover why statins are wrecking women's metabolism, how trauma accelerates ovarian aging and mitochondrial decline, the surprising connection between histamine reactions and hot flashes, and why GLP-1 micro-dosing alongside hormone replacement therapy is a game-changer for body composition and anti-aging. This episode is essential for listening for anyone serious about biohacking, sleep optimization, functional medicine, longevity, brain optimization, supplements, metabolism, human performance, and smarter not harder approaches to women's health. You'll Learn: Why perimenopause actually begins around age 35 and what to do about it before symptoms hit How a mold-derived xenoestrogen found in conventional beef disrupts hormones at 10,000 times the potency of human estrogen The gut microbiome changes that drive hot flashes, brain fog, weight gain, and mood disorders in perimenopause Why oral micronized progesterone beats topical for sleep optimization and hormonal stability How testosterone drives executive function, motivation, and brain optimization in women The lab tests every woman in perimenopause should run, including fasting insulin, ApoB, ferritin, and a full thyroid panel Why adverse childhood events and unresolved trauma age the ovaries and tank mitochondria How mold toxicity and Lyme disease create a hormonal perfect storm that no amount of supplements will fix The real reason 70 percent of divorces are initiated by women, and what hormones have to do with it Thank you to our sponsors! - Neuronic | Go to www.neuronic.online Code DAVE for $100 off - Superstratum Labs | Get Dave's exact home mold detox kit and save 10% at superstratumlabs.com/products/dave - Joymode | Go to tryjoymode.com/DAVE Or enter DAVE at checkout for 20% off. - Viome | Check it out at viome.com and use code 10DAVE for 10% off.
