One of the coolest sports stories of the young new year was Golden State Warrior Pat Spencer being guarded by his younger brother, Memphis Grizzlies rookie Cam Spencer, in a game on Saturday, Jan. 4. It was the latest crescendo of a pair of incredible athlete journeys that were heavily influenced on the lacrosse fields at Boys' Latin (Md.) and Loyola University Maryland. After winning the Tewaaraton Award in 2019, Spencer played a year of basketball at Northwestern and has since worked his way through the NBA G-League to sign a two-way contract with the Warriors. Meanwhile, Cam — who also played lacrosse for the Lakers — started his college basketball career at Loyola, then transferred to Rutgers before finishing his career as a national champion with UConn in April. He was selected with the 53rd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and made his debut with the Grizz in November while also logging minutes (and success) with the G-League Hustle. Though the Spencers' focus is squarely on maximizing their NBA dreams, they also have an eye on life after basketball, which is why they've invested in a startup called Chillshark. Founded by Pat's BL teammate Keegan O'Connor, a 2014 Under Armour All-American who played at Maryland and High Point, Chillshark is a device that can convert any device into a cold plunge. Recorded on Dec. 3, Pat, Cam and Keegan joined IL's Terry Foy to discuss their journey to that point, as well as the merits of cold therapy and how O'Connor plans to go about building the business.

The guys talk about Michael Penix Jr. and his deep ball compared to some of the greatest QB's in recent years. Bo looks at future Mississippi State QB Michael Van Buren showing out in the Under Armour All-American game and what he can add to the Bulldogs. Steve talks about the experience of attending the Rose Bowl as a Michigan fan and the atmosphere of the stadium. Steve notes that this Michigan team and fane base are a new animal and enjoy wearing the "black hat" in college football. Bo asks Steve about how Michigan still won the game even after giving up two turnovers and Steve attributes the win to Jim Harbaugh's return to an old-school style. Steve says that the game looked like old-school Alabama against new Alabama and thinks Jim Harbaugh went back to the basics to beat Nick Saban. Steve breaks down that Michigan used NIL to pay current players rather than bringing in new guys each year. Bo asks Steve about going to the national championship and he says Washington was the main team that concerned him going into the playoffs. Steve talks about how he thinks Michigan can run the football on Washington and expects a career day for RB Blake Corum. Bo asks Steve if Jim Harbaugh will stay and he thinks there's an 80% chance Harbaugh leaves if the Wolverines win it all. Out of Bounds is sponsored by BetterHelp. JT Giles-Harris of the PLL Chrome joins the JU Dolphins coaching staff, fresh off a world championship and all-world team honors. JT's bio from JU below: Giles-Harris joined the Dolphins staff in the summer of 2023. "Hiring JT has felt like years in the making," said head coach John Galloway. "After watching JT's work ethic while on the sidelines and recruiting at Hampton, our staff knew this was someone who would make our program better. JT has humility and confidence that are rare in a player of his level. His playing experience speaks for itself. As the defenseman of the year in the PLL in 2022, JT is still learning from the best at the highest level. He will also be leading the Team USA defense this upcoming week in the world championship games. JT's pedigree will motivate everyone in our locker room, including players and staff. I can't wait to go to war with him!" Giles-Harris comes from Hampton University, where he spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach. While coaching at Hampton, Giles-Harris has also had a successful professional playing career in the Premier Lacrosse League. In 2022, the year Giles-Harris started coaching, he was named the PLL's defensive player of the year, as well as an All-Star. Recently, the Duke grad was featured on the cover of USA Lacrosse Magazine as he prepared to play for Team USA this summer at the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's Championship. In the Championship less than a week ago, Giles-Harris and the US took home gold on July 1 and the new Dolphins assistant coach was named to the tournaments All-World Team for his dominant display. Now, the decorated lacrosse player will coach at Jacksonville. "I am excited to join Coach Galloway and his staff at Jacksonville University," said Giles-Harris. "Coach Woodson and Hampton University provided me an excellent stepping stone for my career, and I hope to continue learning from one of the best staffs in the country." Giles-Harris played in 81 games across five seasons at Duke and was a two-year team captain of the Blue Devils. During his career, he won the 2021 William F. Schmeisser Award, which is awarded annually to the nation's top defenseman. He was also a three-time All-American, twice first team and once third team, and a two-time All-ACC selection. He currently holds the Duke program record for caused turnovers with 89 and scooped up 147 ground balls during his days as a collegiate player. After his collegiate career, Giles-Harris was drafted third overall in the PLL College Draft by Chrome Lacrosse Club. Not to be overshadowed, Giles-Harris was a standout in the classroom as well, as he was named to the All-ACC Academic Team twice and the ACC Academic Honor Roll three times. A native of Nyack, New York and a graduate of St. Joseph Regional (New Jersey) High School, Giles-Harris was a four-year letter winner in lacrosse where he scooped up 511 ground balls in his career and was a 2016 Under Armour All-American pick. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lax-all-stars/message

The end of the early signing period used to mean that coaching staffs could step back, take a sigh of relief, and have a minute with their families before spring rolled back around. However, in the days of the transfer portal, that no longer remains a possibility. The Florida State coaching staff is no exception. They have been hot on the trail overhauling this roster one transfer at a time. In the past couple of weeks, three transfers have inked a spot on FSU's 2022 roster. Two of those signees have been receivers adding the smooth striding Deuce Spann and the massive hybrid tight end Johnny Wilson. They also signed floor-raising defensive back right from under the nose of their ACC Atlantic foe Louisville. In other FSU newcomer news, four-star quarterback commit AJ Duffy outshined some major competition this past week in the Under Armour All-American game. He was lauded for his accuracy and decision making which he showed off on a national stage this past Sunday. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message

On the final day of 2021 we wrap up the Alamo Bowl and a wild ride to the end of the season. Carey, Eddie and Josh are here as Josh recaps his visit to Orlando for the Under Armour All-American practices while Carey and Eddie breakdown the Alamo Bowl win over Oregon and hand out plenty of praise for Cale Gundy and Bob Stoops. Call this an exit interview, therapy, celebration, man crushing on Stoops, whatever you want it. It's probably more therapeutic for the guys just to talk about the madness of the last month. The good part was that it ended better than you could have scripted it, with Bob Stoops reminding us all what was special about Oklahoma. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Hello and welcome; let's get into it Josh wrapping up his trip to Orlando 26:10 - Caleb Williams; what's going to happen? 36:00 - NIL changing college football 43:00 - Alamo Bowl wrap-up
We've spent so much time talking about TBOW, recruiting, Brent Venables, etc., that we haven't given Bob Stoops enough credit for what he's done for the Oklahoma program over the last few weeks. Stoops will coach his final game as Oklahoma's head coach Wednesday night. It's a curtain call for the man who was just inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and already has his own statue on campus. We have no idea what Cale Gundy's offense and Brian Odom's defense will look like Wednesday night, but we know Oregon is down a lot of players. All of this might be a mess, but at least we know the OU program isn't a mess coming out of this thing. And we have Bob Stoops to thank for that. Eddie and Bob come to us from San Antonio and Josh joins us as he gets ready to go cover several OU targets and commitments in Orlando for the Under Armour All-American game. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - It's (almost) Alamo Bowl Gameday 13:25 - Your weekly Caleb Williams update 20:00 - Could anyone help their NFL Draft status? 25:00 - What should you expect defensively? 40:00 - Josh is headed to Under Armour 47:00 - Bob Stoops brought the stability
Episode 22 brings on Under Armour All-American and Nebraska Volleyball outside hitter Riley Zuhn to talk about her experiences coming into college as one of the best volleyball players in the country to join a perennial powerhouse program at the University of Nebraska. Through this process, Riley learns that no matter what role you are in, if you do it to the best of your abilities and come into each day with a "sell the fuck out" attitude, you can go to bed knowing you are improving not only as an athlete but a person as well. Finally, Zuhn reflects on her faith and how it has led her to realize that it is okay to not be okay. To her, you are not supposed to understand many things as a person, but that is the beauty of life. This episode provides inspiring advice from not only an amazing athlete but an even better person. Listen in!

Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds was at Kennedy Catholic High School Friday when Sav'ell Smalls was presented with his game jersey for the 2020 Under Armour All-American game, which will be held in Orlando, Florida on January 2nd, 2020. But Smalls had some other news to share too. He verbally committed to Washington over his other five finalists: Oregon, Florida State, Washington State, Tennessee, and Alabama. The 5-star outside linebacker came full-circle in his recruitment. Washington was the first to offer him nearly three years ago, but when he cut down his list in the spring Washington wasn't on it. But the Huskies gave him some space, let him work things out, answered questions, and by the fall they were once again in the front of his mind. Smalls broke down the reasons for the timing of his decision, what the rationale was for picking the hometown school, whether or not he'll sign in December, his relationship with Kennedy quarterback Sam Huard (a 2021 UW verbal commit) and a whole lot more. "All my life I rep Seattle," Smalls said, responding to a question from the media. "I've repped it to the extreme. I've always said it's the best city in the world. There's no lie in that, and I still believe that, and I'm going to be at the Greatest Setting in College Football. So I'm excited." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The latest episode of the Recruitin’ Down South podcast features SDS’ own Corey Long (on Twitter @CoreyLong). Corey was in Orlando for the Under Armour All-American game and we wanted to discuss his thoughts on several of the prospects either headed to the SEC or currently being recruited by SEC programs. The surprise of the event was MVP RB Maurice Washington, he broke several records in the game and earned himself the attention of a few SEC programs coming out of the event. We also discussed Emory Jones and why he could start in Gainesville next season. Another interesting prospect from the game was Auburn QB signee Joey Gatewood. How does he fit in at Auburn and is his future at another position? One of the top uncommitted prospects to watch from the event was Jacob Copeland. What could he bring to the college game with Alabama, Florida and Tennessee all in pursuit? Quay Walker may be committed to Alabama but it appears he’s more likely to sign with Tennessee or Georgia. Fellow Alabama signee Jordan Davis and Georgia signee Brenton Cox stood out during the game to Long. He shares some thoughts on each. We close out discussing two U.S. Army All Americans in American Heritage teammates Patrick Surtain Jr. and Tyson Campbell. Long has incredible things to say about each uncommitted prospect. He also touched on what it says about Georgia should Kirby Smart and company reach into South Florida and steal Campbell away from Miami.
Breaking down the latest with Miami's defensive line situation, Ron Dugans, and the Under Armour All-American game. The Sun-Sentinel's David Furones joins the show.
On the latest edition of Recruitin’ Down South we talked to recruiting reporter Andrew Bone (@AndrewJBone on Twitter) of Bama Insider the Alabama Rivals affiliate. We wanted to get his thoughts on the early signing day period and where the Tide will focus their attention in recruiting as we barrel toward the tradition signing period in February. Among the topics discussed on this episode: How is Alabama currently trending with Under Armour All-American and current commit Quay Walker? Could he flip to another SEC program? Bone suggest there’s some negative recruiting going on there. Will Alabama sign QB James Foster? How badly will they pursue the Alabama native? Where do things stand with five-star Patrick Surtain Jr.? Can Alabama lure him away from LSU? What about his teammate Tyson Campbell, where do the Tide stand with him? How does Jeremy Pruitt leaving affect Alabama’s 2018 recruiting class? Could Tennessee take advantage there? Has Kirby Smart surpassed Nick Saban on the recruiting trail? Why did five-star 2019 RB Trey Sanders decommit from Alabama? Can the Tide get back in with him? We couldn’t talk to Andrew without getting his thoughts on the upcoming title game and how many Alabama fans he expects to see inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday night.
