Welcome to The K9PT Academy podcast, the only podcast in veterinary rehabilitation & physical therapy that focuses on helping business owners and entrepreneurs build and scale a profitable and successful canine rehabilitation business! In this episode, we share the interview Dr Francisco did with Dr Kaitlyn Lackey for the Making Strides for Animal Chiropractic podcast. Dr Francisco opens up about the early struggles of launching his business from scratch, the mental shift required to embrace sales as service, and how a deeper understanding of client relationships helped him scale his practice and coach others to do the same. If you're a rehabpreneur trying to grow your business, find your niche, or gain confidence in marketing and selling your services — this is an episode you don't want to miss! Listen to the full episode as we discuss: You don't have to figure it out alone: Dr Francisco talks about the lack of business mentorship in the animal rehab field when he started and why he's committed to coaching others today. You are not selling — you're serving: Learning to view selling as a form of helping, not pushing, is a key mindset shift to succeed. Marketing is about connection, not perfection: How authenticity and consistency in your message resonate more than trying to “sound professional.” Your fees reflect your value and sustainability: Undercharging leads to burnout. Dr Francisco discusses how changing his money mindset helped him raise his rates while improving the client experience. Focus on predictable lead generation: Relying solely on vet referrals is not scalable. Dr Francisco emphasizes building your own marketing system — especially using Google and direct-to-consumer education. The power of community and mentorship: Dr Francisco shares how coaching others has become just as rewarding as treating patients, and why he believes community is key to lasting success. It took place outside Seattle, WA, at St. Edwards State Park.  The trail scene is and has long been the whitest, most male dominated sector of the running world. Instead of continuing to wait for the system to change, RDs Aaliyah Earvin and Alison Mariella Désir stepped up and made the event that they have wanted to see for a long, long time, and that they knew it was possible.  Their vision: “We imagine a world where everyone feels welcome to find joy in the trails, free from fear or intimidation, and surrounded by a supportive community.” Welcome, We Out Here. An event that, by all accounts, not only met, but exceeded expectations. Event participation featured the largest percentage of people of color at a trail event, ever. And 66% of participants were first timers. And, the day was nonstop full of joy! Which you will hear reflected in this episode.  Not only did these women create a successful event, they created a new model. It's not often that you get to be at a history making groundbreaking event. And, I'm really excited to share this with you.  This episode comprises a series of on-the-spot interviews featuring women talking about their experience of the day. Many of these women you will likely not be familiar with, but several you probably will: Verna Volker, founder of Native Women Run; Carolyn Su, founder of Diverse We Run and co-host of the Making Strides podcast with Stefanie Flippen; Flippin, a pro racer, is also featured in this episode: she is one of the fastest a 100-mile racers in the country; and you'll also hear from Mirna Valerio, author of the book, A Beautiful Work In Progress. Also, you'll hear from the two race directors, Earvin, who is a coach, fitness professional, and community builder, and Désir, who, among many other accolades, is the author of the groundbreaking book Running While Black.  Get a taste of what it was like, live at this historic event, the inaugural We Out Here Trail Festival. In this episode of the Work in Progress podcast, Wendy Chun-Hoon, director of the Women's Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor, joins me to discuss the progress the century-old bureau has made when it comes to creating equality, fairness, and safety for women in the workforce. While more women than ever before are working, many still face lower wages than their male counterparts, sexual harassment, and lack of support around childcare and family care. Chun-Hoon describes herself as a longtime advocate for women in the workforce. She says she feels the Bureau has made many strides, but there is still much work to be done. There are more than 79 million women in the workforce, but in some fields they're still underrepresented in in-demand fields that pay well and overrepresented in jobs that pay less. Here's one example: the demand for both home health care workers and software developments are both growing. Women make up just 18.6% of all software developer jobs which have a median annual salary of $132,270. In contrast, nearly 88% of home health care workers are women. Those jobs have a median annual salary of $33,530. Chun-Hoon shares what the current administration and past administrations to address that imbalance. We also discuss the critical issue of childcare for working women and government-wide efforts to ensure women have the support they need for caring for their children so they can remain a part of the workforce or join the workforce. Also in the podcast, we talk about the creation of the Gender Policy Council which not only addresses the wage and childcare issues, but also addresses gender-based violence for women in the workforce. In summing up her time in office, which ends January 20, Chun-Hoon tells me, "I've seen breakthroughs that I wasn't expecting. I've seen some disappointments.  I know that the Women's Bureau is also going to keep up that fight to really serve its enduring mission and the legacy that the Women's Bureau is, which is to represent the needs of working women."
