Medical and administrative records are normally collected to help the management of patients or institutions, but it can be time consuming to extract metrics useful for practice improvement. The field known as Practice Analytics seeks to transform these data and provide clinicians with a bird's eye view of their case load and performance. Practice Analytics can draw attention to cases that stood out from the trend, not for any regulatory purpose, but simply to help clinicians reflect and improve. This could even act a shortcut to meeting the new requirements for CPD imposed by the medical boards. In each essay in their debut collection, How Far the Light Reaches: A Life in Ten Sea Creatures, science writer Sabrina Imbler shares the story of an undersea organism and a story of their own journey as someone who, as they put it, came out twice in adulthood. In one essay, they reflect on how a shape-shifting cephalopod helped them navigate their own questions about gender. In another, they celebrate queer dance clubs through the lens of the Yeti crab, a creature who “dances to live” in the crushing conditions around deep-sea hydrothermal vents.“I really wanted to sort of take these creatures very seriously… to think about both of us as organisms,” said Sabrina. “The creature's existence in the world, and also the ways in which I am just, at the end of the day, another organism moving through the world, trying to eat and mate and survive.”Outside/In host Nate Hegyi and producer Justine Paradis sat down with Sabrina Imbler to talk about their blend of science and personal writing, and about what we might be able to learn by looking closely at the lives—perhaps very different, very strange-to-us lives—of creatures in the sea. When the smash-success Jurassic Park first hit theaters in 1993, it inspired a generation of dinophiliacs and helped to usher in a new “golden age of paleontology.” But it also froze the public's perception of dinosaurs in time, and popularized inaccuracies that people still believe are true today. So what happens when the biggest source of information on a scientific field comes from a fictional monster movie? In this episode, three Jurassic Park super-fans (one paleontologist, and two podcasters) try to sort it all out. Our guest is Michael Valante, Global Business Leader for Dell Technology's Healthcare Division and Dell's Chief Technology Officer for Digital Pathology, where he is a subject matter expert in the areas of enterprise imaging and pathology informatics. Mike is deeply focused on the healthcare industry and the intersection of medical imaging and information technology. We're going to discuss lessons learned from Dell's involvement in IT infrastructure throughout healthcare and disciplines outside of pathology. Digital Pathology, as a field is, moving incredibly fast. It seems like we've hit an inflection point in the past year. We'll discuss the trajectory and the velocity of the digital transformation. Pathology certainly has different stakeholders – lab managers, hospital administrators, IT staff, the pathologists, other physicians. Roughly what are the concerns of each of these varied groups of stakeholders? And what is Dell's approach to balancing both the technical and clinical aspects of digital pathology?

It's a simple concept. Those we idolize, who do they look up to? Who do they respect? What captures their attention and causes them fascination? In this episode we look at who's coffee some of Canada's roaster's are drinking, and why? Is it that they respect these roasters? That they liked the look of the bag? That they love seeing how others roast from these regions? What causes someone surrounded by a seemingly limitless supply of coffee, to pick up another roaster?
